cruising my ESPN TV schedule for a) bowl games and b) baseball replays I found this:
Which of these Perfect Games from 2012 would you most like to watch again on Jan 23rd 2013?

Matt Cain – Giants 10 v Astros 0 59%
Felix Hernandez – Mariners 1 v Rays 0 29%
Phil Humber – White Sox 4 v Mariners 0 12%

It seems Matt’s is quite popular and for those of you that do not have it recordedd it may be a good watch during this long winter of our no-baseball. It is a vote poll on the espn tv schedule site here, you maybe able to find it and vote, too.

snarkk is on the right track. There should be a way to quantify strength of schedule. Blowout wins vs. chump change teams need to be eliminated from the equation. There will always be disagreements based on teams final records, but as he points out 1-AA and the other lower divisions have been doing a playoff system for a long time. When was the last time Furd actually played? Start the playoffs right after last game for those teams eligible and go from there.

Whatever you proposed Snarkk, I’m definitely all for for it. I’ve only watched one bowl game so far, opting for “on demand” kitchen gadget shows. Did you all get your Vacu Vin Kiwi Guards, BTW?
The game I watched was the Meineke Muffler Bowl, but I’m pretty pissed because I bought one of their mufflers and not only doesn’t it fit, it clashes with my Chesterfield coat, and won’t chop garlic…
Anyway, I don’t even know who won, it was 24-24 when I switched to the Ron Popeil marathon…Happy New Year!

I don’t think they do the monster trucks or motocross anymore, but I can’t say for sure. A couple of years ago at the fan fest the field was still in motocross mode with dirt hills and stuff, crazy. They still do the occasional rock concert, and the bowl game. The finals of the World Baseball Classic are coming mid-March, but that won’t damage anything…

That one year they had that failed football league team in there it was trashed (I don’t remember the team’s name and I think it was going into the second season at Pac Bell). I think the Giants were asking to begin the season on the road for awhile there because of the field getting trashed by some events.
Now that they’re closing in on paying off the stadium (2017?), are they still putting a lot of events in the park? I sold my season tickets when I moved four or five years ago, so I don’t get all the stadium info now.

Amazing to me that they can play football, monster truck rallies and big concerts at ATT, and the field isn’t screwed up so much that baseball is impacted. I guess they re-sod every Feb or March before the season, and it grows in and ready to play on before the April start of season. And, I have problems with weeds in my backyard, plus the Snarkkdog’s pee rings that rival the size of crop circles in England…

I saw that game listed and thought the AT&T reference was a typo by the UK guy that puts the info in.

That’s impressively in-depth, Snarkk. I like a system that doesn’t have a bunch of teams waiting around for a MONTH to play their next game.

Quite a Sac Kings game last night. The Kings had a 27 point lead over the Knicks at one point, then proceeded to BLOW that lead, and with the Knicks up by 2 points and time running out, the Kings hit a 3-pointer to win at the buzzer.

It’s pretty cool that there’s a bowl game at AT&T Park today. I’d like to go to that someday, and see a football game at that ballpark. It’s on at 1:00 today, I think. The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. It’s a cool thing that the AT&T Park bowl is connected to helping people. I wish the two teams were of more interest to me, though. Navy vs. Arizona St.? Meh. It’s likely I’ll watch it, though. Mainly to see the ballpark. (grin)

Let that be a lesson learned: Never trust Rutgers. But yeah, if not for that INT by Tur-Nova, there’s a good chance Rutgers wins it. And he must’ve had about 4-5 other passes that were almost picked. Brutal game all around. I don’t like the college OT, but in this case that was the only way these teams were getting to the 25.
