Spring Training 2013: Five “Do You Care’s?”

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on February 11, 2013

Do you care if Timmy has a crappy spring training? Cause odds are, he will. His LOWEST spring ERA in 6 seasons is 4.03 (2009).

Do you care if Zito pitches well this spring? Everyone remembers last year’s spring implosion but in 2011 he actually had a very good spring (2.30 ERA). There is talk now of the team not just picking up his 2014 option but offering him an EXTENSION. Thoughts?

Do you care how fat Pablo is gonna look to you? Cause you know he’s gonna look enormous. Are we to the point of looking past his vastness and just concentrating on his hitting?

Do you care about Angel Villalona the ballplayer or is he just straight circus-freak entertainment to you?  Do you have any expectations for him this spring other than that he loosely resemble the physical dimensions of a professional athlete? If so, what are your expectations?

Do you care if Gary Brown hits .472 this spring? If he does, do you give him the “Randy Elliott” fast track ticket to SF or do you ignore a .472 batting average and send him back to Fresno for more seasoning?

    I don’t care! Or do I?

Brown absolutely goes to Fresno. They don’t want him bouncing back and forth ala Belt. And they don’t need him to start the year. They have Pagan, let Gary dominate AAA for a few months.

Bourn is being smart by going with the money. 4years/48 mil with a vesting 5th year. At this point in the off season, after Boras had bungled his client’s case almost to the point of almost having to go 1-year (like what happened to Madson last year) you can always count on a dumb ass team like the Indians to swoop in and fix the whole mess.
Fast guys in their early 30′s don’t typically get faster when they score the last big deal of their careers…..
Another “back of the his baseball card” signing that I sit back and laugh loudly in the direction of……….

Chi, I responded to your very nice post on the previous thread.

Whenever I hear the phrase “less is more” which Nipper used earlier I always think of a guy I worked with years ago named Les (a chubby mild mannered Greek). One of our co-workers was a little pest named Anthony who insisted on calling him “Lestoil” which was the name of an old bathroom cleaning product. Went on for months till one day in the Dividend department, Les picked up metal waste basket, split Anthony’s head wide open with it, then calmly went back to his desk. Anthony was wheeled out on a stretcher never to return.
Just another feel good story from your pal Loo.

Did Buzz ever kick the shit out of Les or Anthony?

No one who knew or worked with him would ever push his buttons. It was strangers who would get themselves in trouble, Flav. He wasn’t a muscle guy. Just a big bull.

nice to have a guy like that around. :)

The one thing I don’t care about now, fucking cheap plastic beads.
As a friend’s daughter said “Have fun, don’t die”.
    Cheers all.

I love when people get their come-uppance – especially when it’s accompanied by a few broken bones…

That would be great to see Brown tear the cover off the ball in spring training. I think Salty is right that he’s bound for Fresneck regardless but you never know. Torres could injure his legs and Blanco could start slow and maybe he breaks camp and goes down after a week a la Belt 2011.

Anyone else listen to Tolbert on the drive home? He had this whole segment today on his reaction to the Chicago Bulls players hitting the weed before games. It segwayed into playing cards and betting amoungst the team. Dude is funny.

    • Flavor said, on February 11, 2013 at 7:39 pm

Tolbert can be hysterical, he can also be an idiot. But he studies all sports hard, that’s clear. I didn’t like Ralph (and if you want to listen to 2 minutes of discomfort, find the radio clip of Tolbert’s first show without Ralph. Weird shit that they kept on the radio for way too long…..
I like him with Byrnes because they both played the game and they play off each other well. I don’t like him with Ratto who’s a self serving slob……….

      • dirtnrocksnomo said, on February 11, 2013 at 7:44 pm

Yeah he’s a bit goofy but he’s always trying hard and funny. I was wondering what happened with him and Byrnes being paired up. I liked them too. Ratto is worse on radio than his columns, which I didn’t think was possible. I don’t see how that dude has made a living writing about sports. Total douche.

As Nipper said: it is ST and an old timer has seen so many. I do enjoy B.A.S.K.I.N.G
    And will forever more.
Anyone want to buy a first born son?
Will trade for back-to-back WS trophies = 3 years out of 4 = FUCK THE YANKMEES

I have only one theory, besides the fact that we have a great coach with a hat size one too big.
    It is the players
Where will they take us today?
    Do we just warm up?
Do we look past the ASG?
    Do we have a playoffs?
    Do we get to it?
    SFGiants?
    go team

It must be spring, my allergies are kicking in a big way.

Agree with Salty about Brown. No way he makes the roster. He needs to play every day and unless 1-2 players do a complete face plant in Spring training, his bus ticket will read Fresno, CA., IMO.
