Thank god. That amateur crowd scared me on that kemp hit. I’d love to know how many time Wilson has gone 1/2/3 in a closed game. It’s gotta be less than 15% or so, right????
Always drama with Wilson on the mound. Maybe the rest did him some good. He never lost focus and returns to the leader spot in saves. Giants pitching has gone from very good to something better. Lopez provides a much needed bridge. Burrell and Renteria provided just enough offense to make it happen. This team looks locked in.
Day off tomorrow and then its Drrrty and Bumgarner against Cook and Ubaldo, followed by Lincecum facing Jurjens for the Braves. A month ago against those two teams i’d be hoping for a 3-3 split. Now i’m looking for better. It could happen. This team is jelled and confident.
Michael: I wouldn’t quite agree with “awful”, but he sure the hell didn’t throw it away. He has been known to do that on occasion and this was the 1-4 hitters in their LU. So i think we can agree that he could have been sharper with that backdoor slider, but that Sarah Bernhardt came through to save the game. Good enough for me and i’ll bet the Horse is so glad to get that monkey off his back that he would agree as well. And as Gertrude Stein always said: “A win is a win is a WIN.”
Theriot and loney saved that from turning into potential disaster. But whatever, he closed it out, he’s back, the dodgers smoke our collective pole, it’s all good (and that’s a lot of pole to smoke)….
Well, sorry for the honesty. He walked three guys but two swung at ball 4 and they WERE NOT good pitches. Whatfuckingever, I’m glad he got it done, or rather that THEY didn’t.
61 and 45. Sixteen more wins than losses. Fifty-six to go. .500 ball gets em to 89-73. Bet they do better than that. 33-23 and they hit my January prediction of 94-68. Dodgers is pretty much dead now. Maybe not stone cold dead, but dead in the water, anyway. No forward motion from the propellers and taking on a list to starboard.
Padres beat the Florida ace today, but after this nationally televised game tonight, they are seriously looking over their shoulders and are not likely looking forward to their 3-days of high adventure in the neighborhood of #24 Willie Mays Plaza overlooking China Basin in the most classically sited city on the continent.
Broomhilda rides tonight and the Pads are hearing loud footsteps. CRUNCH. CRUNCH. CRUNCH. The snapping sounds between and after the crunches are coming from the Dodgers’ backbone.
Rent had the game winner twice this week. This gets to be the time of year when previous slumps are meaningless. The three key performances tonight: Cain, Lopez, Renteria.
3-2 counts and heavy, heavy pressure with loss piling on losses. One awful lot of good hitters under those circumstances would swing away at ball four when they’ve been facing 95mph gas. Wilson sometimes gets sloppy saves. But its a cross we have to bear.
Well, when that ball 4 is coming in at 96 and you know it – it makes that swing / no swing decision all the bit more nerve racking. Definitely not his best stuff, but today it was good enough. I’m sure those two will be banging their heads against the wall tonight thinking about what could have been.
I know all about Willie, Stix. I pointed out a fact, live with it. As I said, he’ll need to be better, mentally anyway. Or maybe Buster needs to be better. Two run lead, nobody on, you DO NOT throw your second best pitch. He got lucky, I’m happy.
Fifth best record in MLB right now, trailing only the Yanks, Rays and Angels in the A.L. and those guys from next to the big military reservations upcoast from Tijuana. Not bad company for a team expected by most ‘experts’ to finish third or fourth. A few weeks back the intra-Division record was a wailing 9-20. As of this evening its an almost respectably mediocre 18-21. A winning record against north suburban Tijuana the rest of the way and the Gigantes collect all the marbles in the West.
The target is in clear sight. The team is primed, locked and loaded. Go Giants!
Wilson hadn’t pitched in what, four days? I’ll give him a pass tonight, but the Dodgers definitely helped him out. I was surprised Loney chased that slider away. He’s usually more disciplined than that.
Great snag by Huff, a veteran piece of hitting by Renteria, nice aggressive base-running by Rowand with the steal, great debut by Lopez, and Wilson was impressive.
Watching Kershaw’s play, Furcal throwing one away, and Martin bouncing it into 2nd, you realize these daily efforts are separating us from them. That’s what makes a team 16-4. You do all the little things right. And then you get breaks like the sun in Kemp’s eyes.
(with apologies to Sinatra or whoever wrote the fucking song)
SAMMY KAHN YOU ASSHOLE!!

LQTM. Sounded at times like one of those Yankees crowds.
Brain Dead SoCal hackers! Thanks.
I’ve always said, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try again.
Way to go Matty!

I don’t mean to kick, err, think, of a guy when he’s down…but I don’t think I’ve seen the rooster here all season.
Fuck it. Kick him
His VISA bill must be outrageous. Quite a few out to dinner charges this year.
I hope the poor bastard at least tips well.
!!
3 words.
Beautiful fucking game
Dodgers’ Monkey off Cain’s back
Stix, Willie was awful, but Bums bailed him out. He’ll need to be better down the stretch.
Woo-Hoo!!! (Sorry I’m late – I was making dinner, sue me!)
Who had Renteria as the offensive star of the game??? I’d have to say the pick-off of Kemp was my favorite play, though. I am so over that douche!!!

Well he did get the 1st pitch strike on every batter…

Cain gets his 1st W on Bum’s birthday…
Bummer, they don’t play the Pads in San Diego while Del Mar is on…just after tho…Field trip!

“Angels???” Oops. Meant Rangers.

Great series!
Nine of the Giants’ 10 runs in the series came with two outs…
Just saw that wswin–that’s a nice stat to read.
