A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

This Will be a Very Interesting Series…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 5, 2010

Not because it will tell me something about the Giants. I’m hoping to learn more about the Braves. Simply put, I just don’t think the Braves are as good as their record is.  Everyone is jizzin’ about Heyward but the dude has hit ONE home run since the end of May. They’ve got a good catcher and Prado has been a stud at the lead off spot for them this year (though we miss him during this series).  They’ve got a solid bullpen and maybe 2 starting pitchers I’d want on our staff. Chipper is held together with rubber bands and Glaus (like Heyward) hasn’t done much after his hot start (no HR’s since June)….

I dunno, I just don’t get the hype about the Braves. Do they still do that dumb chop? I guess we’ll find out……

The Todd makes his glorious return to the team today with Bautista *walking* his way out of town…..

I think we win 3 of the 4…….

A friend of mine is a cousin of Travis Ishikawa and I had a fascinating conversation with him in regard to Travis purportedly being in Bochy’s “doghouse” earlier this year and a couple of other interesting comments:

    1. When the Giants were in Denver earlier this week, Travis’s mom (Susan) was also in town (home is Seattle) for a work-related conference, i.e., Chris (my friend), Travis, Susan, and other family members were in town for an impromptu family get-together. They also attended the Tuesday night game where the Giants schooled the Rocks.

    2. Susan (Travis’s Mom) doesn’t like Bochy and mispronounces his name purposely.
She calls him “Botch it” and “Botchy.”

    3. Regarding Travis being in Bochy’s doghouse, Chris didn’t ask that question, but it was brought up by Susan that Giants management thought Travis was overweight and they told him to lose 10lbs in spring training.

    4. When Travis was asked by Chris if he liked Denver, Travis responded, “Yes.” Going further, Chris reminded him that Helton was probably not going to accept a secondary role next year and might retire (quite possible, since the local media constantly talks about it), so Chris asked him if he had an opportunity to plan in Colorado, would he pursue it (as a free agent) . . . Travis responded, “Probably not, but only because my wife loves the SF bay area and we bought a house here (bay area). Personally, I want to go where I can play full time.”

    5. Travis’s dad is 3rd generation Japanese and although Chris was uncertain if any of his dad’s side of the family was interned during WWII, he said probably not because this was mostly a west coast phenomenon and his dad was raised in Illinois.

Ishi’s Mom must be related to Soph.

Well, depends on where in Ill. East St. Louis ain’t never been nice. Out toward Belleville, similar.

Just for shits and giggles, games giving up more than 3 runs:
    Zito 5
    Sanchez 6
    Cain 5
    Lincecum 6

Bat– you’re first ad for another site is from a “weird Romanian guy?”….Dude, you need to work on your marketing. BTW, you’re up in Seattle, right? Are these M’s broadcasters as bad as they sound tonight?

    • blbbawbag said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:44 pm

Bat is not bag, flav. Fuck dude, even with a half bottle of moskovskaya in me I can work that out. I figured I’d mention the romanian thing because his english is less than perfect and I thought it important to distinguish between “non-native speaker” and “stupid,” least you think the site was run by an A’s fan.

Also, I’m in Alameda. Not Setattle.

They can be. Dave Neihaus is a legend, and I love him, but frankly he’s well past his prime and makes a lot of errors, like calling home runs on balls that end up getting caught 40′ short of the track. Mostly does radio now with Rick Rizz. The primary TV guys are Dave Sims and Mike Blowers (former player). Do you know who you were listening to?

The first part of your post went completely over my head, Flav. Oy, I see blbbawbag has cleared things up. 😀

  4. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:29 pm

    More than 3.

  5. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:30 pm

Which is why I said “more than 3”.

  6. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:31 pm

Blade: great inside info. Interesting. Thanks….

  7. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:36 pm

Travis might play full time here next year. It’s why they kept him this year, they just anticipated Huff to be a more reliable one year shot. With Aubrey now likely to be re-signed but for the OF, Travis could very well be the starter in 2011. I detailed all of this in the spring.

  8. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:39 pm

you detailed Huff being re-signed last Spring? Interesting….

  9. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:43 pm

    2011 Opening Day LU:
    Torres CF
    Belt RF
    Huff LF
    Posey C
    Sandoval 3B
    Uribe SS
    Ishikawa 1B
    Sanchez 2B

  10. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:44 pm

No, not re-signing Huff. Just why they kept Travis.

  11. wswinb4igo said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:45 pm

Not to mention Belt > Ishi

  12. wswinb4igo said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:46 pm

I’m in the present season… 2010 Giants WTFN

  13. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:49 pm

Belt is being played in RF and LF now. And I’ll discuss what I fucking like, WSW.

  14. max808 said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:49 pm

I’ve noticed they are playing Belt in RF occasionally. I wonder how he’s handling the position.

  15. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:50 pm

Agreed. Belt-schmeldt. It’s 2010, that dude could be a bowker gang guy or something better. I could care less right now….

    • blbbawbag said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:56 pm

definitely see more Bowker than Posey in Belt. If I’m Sabes there’s a vet signed ahead of both him and Crawford this winter.

  16. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:56 pm

    And if the q is a free-guillen or a green-belt I go guillen all day long….

  17. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 8:56 pm

You have no requirement to discuss it but I have the right to bring it up. The question arose because Blade was talking about it and Ishi’s future. It’s a valid discussion point, Fuck off if you don’t like it. And Belt could very well be here within a couple weeks.

  18. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:02 pm

It’s not “either/or” on Gullien/Belt. Jesus Horatio Christ…. If nothing else, Belt will probably be up September 1. Bowker, BTW, never came close to Belt’s A and AA numbers. Crawford is a different matter.

  19. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:04 pm

Belt will be up in sept. Everyone knows that. Talk about whatever you want, no one is stopping you

  20. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Or before depending on whether they do make a signing. The POINT is that it’s not either/or. The guys who get the shaft for playing time if they sign Guillen are Nate/Rowand and no one will bitch about THAT. In fact, one will go.

  21. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:12 pm

I wasn’t saying it was either or I was going back to your “Nate or guillen” post.

  22. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Nate is here, there IS an either/or on that. I seruiously doubt that Nate stays if they get Gulllen. Hell,he’d get a good shot with KC. Straight up should actually be very doable.

  23. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:15 pm

“one will go”. Jeez, if it’s rowand it Nate I wonder which will go. Hmmmmmm…. Don’t tell me….

  24. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:17 pm

And yes, I send Nate to kc for guillen. Why not?

  25. bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:23 pm

twin, after traded 10,000 posts with you I think I can say our last 3 or 4 were not our best. I am missing who/what you’re talking about. Oh well, it happens. I gotta bolt, I’ll catch up with you guys later……

  26. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:27 pm

Well, they’d still love to move Rowand. It’s very unlikely but not impossible. A couple teams might still want him, maybe even the Phils again. Probably, as Snarkk said, though, a quiet off season move. Or as quiet is that could be. When Rowand leaves, hate arrives.

  27. wswinb4igo said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:36 pm

Dodgers say Martin out for the year…

  28. wswinb4igo said, on August 5, 2010 at 9:53 pm

What a bizzare inside the parker for the pads

  29. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 10:02 pm

At least 3 runs in a start:
    Zito 10
    Sanchez 11
    Cain 9
    Lincecum 8

  30. wswinb4igo said, on August 5, 2010 at 10:31 pm

    From Baggs blog….

I don’t know much about Jose Guillen, but his reputation is not good. As reader Paul S tweeted. “We already have 2 Water Buffaloes in our OF, we don’t need to add a jackass.”

  31. Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 10:52 pm

Cute, but he’s better than Nate…
With all the blather about first half/second half, it’s month to month that is really the issue with the Zitmeister. He has never had two consecutive good months for the Giants. By “good”, I mean sub 4.00 ERA. He has never done that two months in a row. If he can do it in August, it will be a first…

  32. TedSpe said, on August 6, 2010 at 6:59 am

What a bizarre fucking way to end the thread.
Doug, if that’s humor, I’m not getting it.
    Please to explain

  33. bigflavor said, on August 6, 2010 at 7:01 am

not sure what that was all about, Ted. But he’s gone……

    • TedSpe said, on August 6, 2010 at 11:33 am

      Good call. Thanks
