A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Those are the number of hits we’ve had in each of our last 4 games. That 8-hit game looks like an offensive explosion, doesn’t it? I said this before yesterday’s game, with Buster’s bat cold it seems like the rest of the team got iced down, too. Yes, we’ve faced some decent pitching lately but I think this is just more about one of those team-wide slumps EVERY team goes through several times a year. Right now there’s just no one to ride with everyone scuffling. Posey DOES look tired. I’m not sure what a day will do but it couldn’t hurt. Unfortunately he’ll be getting it on a game we really would like to win. Oh well, if he’s dragging, he’s dragging…….

Speaking of guys who need a break, Freddy Sanchez needs to sit. For a long while. He’s reminding me of what we’ve seen from Rowand the last couple of years. Bochy is waiting for him to snap out of it but there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. And what do we get from Kruk and Kuip? Nothing but fawning over him for how he handles routine ground balls at 2nd. Just ONCE I’d like to see them break down a vet’s hitting with some honest analysis……

These Atlanta radio announcers fucking suck…did not bother saying Ishi was the one to hit it out..

Kat, I am out of loop on Renteria’s injury.

  2. Giant Head said, on August 8, 2010 at 12:48 pm

dennis, we need to take you to Vegas.

  3. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 12:50 pm

If Renteria is done, FreddyFuck is El Toasto. Actually, Uribe/Renteria should be the SS/2nd base guys right now. Edgar has the same # of extra base hits as FreddyFart in 225 PA to FreddyFux 309.

Last excuse for Whitefuck just trickled into CF…

Very nice recovery by the new guy.

  6. stixwiz said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:06 pm

Couppla fine pitching performances by Casilla and Ramirez. They look like keepers. The Todd, on the other hand…..

  7. delmardennis said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:11 pm

Johnny Venters has NONE chance of winning, but he should get some serious consideration for ROY. Dude is lights out.

  8. alleykat said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:11 pm

Don’t matter to bitch about Whitefuck,he’s not going anywhere.Steve Holm or Jackson Williams forget it.

  9. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:15 pm

So it matters to bitch about what they did or didn’t do at the break? Kat, you are the single biggest bitcher here. You have *none* cred to be advising on what to bitch about, pal.

  10. Giant Head said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:22 pm

I would like to see Panda play some catching either in winter ball or spring. Then he could get those one or two starts behind the plate when Posey needs a breather. Then we don’t need to waste an extra roster space for essentially useless parts.

    • xootsuit said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Pablo’s already said he won’t play winter ball this year. He’s moving to San Diego to work out. Can’t remember if I saw that on sfgiants.com or sfgate. I think he and Zito should try some big NW swell at Black’s or Sunset Cliffs. The locals will probably beat Zito iinto a coma with his own board, but take Pablo in and teach him the healthy surfer lifestyle.

  11. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:23 pm

Really, for a doomer to be advising on what is prudent to complain about? Priceless.

  12. JBat said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:29 pm

17 K’s for Morrow today, very impressive. As I’ve said, I hope he does put it all together.

  13. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:34 pm

Great to see ishikawa bang a couple to end the trip. Good momentum for him gojng back home. Freddy sanchez on the other hand….as I said, time to take a loooooong sit

  14. stixwiz said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:34 pm

Only good thing about playing at Turner Field in October would be the prospect of warm rather than hot weather. At least not sticky, smarmy hot.

  15. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:38 pm

Very shitty and uninspiring trip through Atlanta. It happens. Some of these guys need to get going asap when they hit SF. I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt regarding this weather theory..

  16. delmardennis said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Brain Sabean is a goddamn boob. Just felt that I needed to repeat that one more time today.

  17. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:45 pm

I agree, Denny. I was just telling Bea that I thought they would have taken all 4 if Rohlinger had stayed up.

  18. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:46 pm

I missed a few of the middle innings, just found out Cain was pinch hitting in the fifth. Haha what a joke. Playing games with 2 guys on the bench just has to fucking stop

  19. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:48 pm

It was always just for the road trip. No game was impacted. And remember Kat’s caution: no point in bitching, regardless.

  21. delmardennis said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Flav, did you get the invite for the FF? Door’s still open. Chuck could use the competition.

  22. macdog said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:59 pm

The next road trip goes through Philly and St. Louis, not exactly cool and breezy cities in mid-August, so they better figure out how to deal with the heat.

  23. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 1:59 pm

Hey, I did. Haven’t checked it out yet. When is the draft? Automatic, right?

    • delmardennis said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Yeah, it’s set for early Sept. They allow you to do polls at ESPN, so I’ll see what’s best day for most. It’ll be a live draft, but you can set your plyrs. early and have ’em auto picked for you. No need to make the draft, Chuck hasn’t made one yet. It’s done wonders for him.

  24. JBat said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:05 pm

The Giants play better against both the Phillies and the Cardinals. They’ve always struggled with the Braves, at least in the Bobby Cox era.

  25. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:08 pm

This wasn’t a play off preview anyway. Giants are not going to be the WC, they’ll be the division winners. Philly is still going to win the East so the WC is going to get down to Atlanta/St. Louis/Reds. We’re either going to play the WC winner (with the home advantage) or we’ll play the Central winner, IMO. Also with the home advantage.

    • delmardennis said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:25 pm

How many pitchers will Sabean want to carry for the playoffs? With all those late inning L/R match ups that are inevitable in the post-season, I’d say Brian better make sure Bochy is well armed to have those moves covered. I’m thinking 15 should ’bout cover it.

    • willied said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:34 pm

you just said what i meant…SF wins, ATL gets WC.

  26. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:23 pm

From Bagga, Dirty says they’ll sweep the Pads next weekend and not look back. He opens the series Friday night. I like it.

  28. unca chuck said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:28 pm

So much for the long reliever. Maybe Wellenhead can only long relief at home.

  29. delmardennis said, on August 8, 2010 at 2:45 pm

I’ll be a sonofagun. I just clicked on TF’s name and got directed to the page that said, “sorry we could not find http://www.fukwadz.com.”

I could have saved you the trouble, Sabean already has that domain.

Flav—Who’s in charge of that FF league? I’d like to get in on that if possible.

  37. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Dennis is. I think I’m going to have you take my spot, I haven’t followed football, outside of the Niners team, in years…..
I was so blown away with the callers into Lurie’s show I sat in the driveway for an extra ten mins listening to it. I got to hand it to Lurie, I think he’s an idiot, but he’s a nice guy who tolerates a lot of idiocy from the callers. It was just call after call from the Pickled Gringo’s of the world. It was sad actually, I always think Giants fans are more informed than most of the other teams fans……..
Yankees/Boston tonight, baby. I love these series. Tonight is lacking some drama with all of the Bosox players out and now Burnett just begged out of the start. But still, fun teams to watch play each other……

    • pickledgringo said, on August 8, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Bochy’s track record is all you need for validation of my unpopular opinion here on the flap. Too bad I missed Lurie’s show, seems I’m not alone in this opinion.

Truth hurts I suppose, but listen, I don’t want to dislike Bochy, but the guy does nothing to show he is capable of making consistent and sound decisions. You disagree, so be it, and it takes more energy than I have to dislike him but he does nothing to provide me with any confidence in his abilities. I want to like him, but he’s just not right for this team and never has been.

With this pitching staff there is NO excuse to EVER carry 13 pitchers, especially with the way Bochy burns through bench players, and anyone pinning that decision solely on Sabean is most likely dead wrong.

  38. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 4:42 pm

San Diggity Dog I just forwarded you the email you need to get into the league…..

  39. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 4:58 pm

Sanchez made a pretty bold claim for the SD series. Still mulling that over but I think I like it. Can’t say I disagree with his take on SF taking 1st place in the West and never looking back.

  40. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 5:14 pm

I love the cc sabathia story. He went one pick AFTER us in the draft. Who’d we take? Tony torcato, baby…..

  41. macdog said, on August 8, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Flav, I wish I could share your enthusiasm for Yanks-Bosox. While I admit not liking the Yanks at all, the games are nearly unwatchable: 4-hour-plus marathons, a full count on seemingly every batter, visits to the mound every other inning. At least one of them won’t make the playoffs, though I wish it was the Bombers.

  42. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Mac– I watch probably 40 Yankee games a yr. I don’t root fir them ever, I just like watching them play. The pressure, the expectations, I just think it’s a cool scene….

  43. macdog said, on August 8, 2010 at 5:39 pm

Yeah, baseball crowds in NYC are way more intense than anywhere else. And having said all that, I certainly wouldn’t turn down a ticket to one of those games.

  44. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 5:48 pm

It’s funny you say that. All I see tonight in the best seats are hot hotties who are spending the whole game on the phone. I guess they’ll be paying for those seats later ๐Ÿ™‚

  45. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 5:49 pm

Jeter passes Ruth. That’s awesome. The history and the tradition of this team is something to honor….

  46. wswinb4igo said, on August 8, 2010 at 6:26 pm

I applaud Bochy and the rest of the guys…With Lincy not his dominating self, Affeldt not close to last year, and guys who figured to hit 2nd and 3rd, namely Franchez and Sandoval, pieces of shit offensively, barring anymore unforesen things…they’re still gonna get there.

  47. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Good point wswin. Tim not pitching like a cy young, franchez and Pablo have been awful. No affeldt, a busted bullpen. De Rosa never showed up. Dirrrrrrty has sort of treaded water since last year. Renteria hurt all the time and rowand producing at his usual shit numbers…..we’ve been lucky, no critical injuries for a second year in a row but bochy has done a great job of holding this team together this yr….

  48. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 6:42 pm

That’s why I trip out on the hate bochy gets. He’s not a dynamic manager, no doubt about it. But he keeps the ship going and the players are behind him. How can u not dig that? He’s a terrible arguer with umps but how often does a good arguer get a call changed? Never. That’s just a show for the fans. I’ve joined TEam Bochy this year. I don’t love the guy, I don’t need to see him get an extension (though it wouldn’t bum me out). It took a few years but I respect him as a manager….

  49. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 6:49 pm

Outside of his handling of a pitching staff I’ve never been real impressed with Bochy but I can still give him credit for his performance. He may not always make the strategic move or call for the bunt as much as some people want but he doesn’t hide from his decisions when they don’t work out.

Bochy has done a good job and anyone who looks at it objectively can see that.

  50. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 6:51 pm

PG– stop. I’m not doing this 2 nights in a row with you. I’ve already labeled you an instigator without purpose or merit. I don’t want to have tj ban you, You aren’t like the other 5 or 6 guys I’ve banned. Stop talking about bochy we all know your opinion (though like the callers to lurie’s show, it’s an opinion without merit). Seriously, maybe you should just start calling marty’s show, those are your people. You’re not getting anywhere here with anyone just saying dumb shit over and over….

  51. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 6:54 pm

A person might be able to make the argument that Bochy is an average manager, it is not possible to make the proposed argument that he’s the worst in baseball. Even the person making that argument hasd not submitted anything to back that. What this person needs to do is really quite simple and could even earn him some small degree of respect: admit that the “worst” claim was preposterous unsupportable bullshit and just confess that all he’s really saying is that he doesn’t think Bochy is a GOOD manager.

  52. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Flav, you’ve really banned 5-6? Must have been dodger fans.

I can see where an argument can be made that Bochy isn’t a good manager. I am not saying I think he’s a bad manager. I am just saying that the argument COULD be made. It would require some critical thinking skills though so it could not be successfully argued by PG.

  53. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:04 pm

Actually, if PG takes back that ridiculous “worst manager” thing and then promises not to talk about bochy anymore, he can stay. For now. But like I said dude, the Marty Lurie Crew is all you. ….dirt, I was thinking about posting who has been banned, you all know them, but I figured that would just rattle a hornets nest or two….

  54. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:10 pm

By the way dirt, I’m stopping in Reno tues night to play some poker on the way to sun valley. If you want to catch a few innings 0f the game that night lemme know…

  55. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:12 pm

He did a similar thing with Ishikawa. It’s fair to say “I don’t think he’ll hit enough” or something along that line. But he posted that the guy had shown absolutely no ability or even potential to ever hit MLB pitching at all. It was an absurd statement then and even more so now. Again, a very legit case could be made that Travis is not a front line MLB hitter, but PG isn’t satisfied with a reasonable position. He has to make the big bold “look at me, ma” declaration. Then the boy can’t back it.

    • TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:20 pm

      “the boy can’t back it”
      Precisely!! Just random bullshit squalor.
Don’t make me go on another rant over here! Cuz I’m fueled!

  56. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:15 pm

Well twin, I’m not really going to put up with anymore bulkshit posts with no though or reason behind it. PG is my example. This blog isn’t going to be a place for Marty Luries Crew to post and i’m not dealing with the instigators anymore. Back up your post with anything that remotely makes sense or yer outta here….

  57. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:16 pm

Flav, I’m sorry to hear that. You going to Sun Valley I mean. What are you low on meth or something?

We got to hook up again one of these times. Work is crazy for me right now with no end in site.

    • TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:21 pm

that’s cool, I’ll be up in sept too

  59. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Twin, I’m hoping Bochy gives Ishikawa some more leash after his effort at the plate today. If this dude Belt keeps coming Ishikawa’s days are numbered but I still like the guy. He fits the Sabean mold for a 1b. Great D, decent stick.

  60. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:27 pm

HAHA, A buddy of mine used to install cable in that area. He’s got some good stories.

I’m heading to the bay at the end of the month. I’ll catch 2 of 3 for the AZ series.

  61. bigflavor said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:27 pm

I don’t see belt being anything other than a sept Face on the bench. Not in a pennant race. But we’ll see. Ishikawa is the only guy hitting anything right now; and yes, those 2 hits at the end of the game today were huge…

    • dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:31 pm

I agree that Belt will be only a September call. I mean they’ll have to figure something out with Ishikawa this off season. Belt would probably get a competitive shot at 1b in ST. Heck if they get Guillen Ishi will head to the bench with Huff to 1st.

      • TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:34 pm

I see that as well. But I like Ishikawa. A little too “Jesus tells me when to swing” kinda guy but a really good 1st baseman and a decent hitter

  62. freshtodef80 said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:34 pm

The Splash is funny. I posted that Bfe is really a Dodger fan, and posts on the espn Dodger blog and my post gets deleted.

    • TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:36 pm

Cuz fuckface BFE asked it to be. Fuck the Splash

But I go there every once in a while cuz there’s a couple good guys/gals there and it’s fun to read twin giv’em their rights. But I have so many folks on ignore, some days, especially when the Giants lose or are losing, it looks like an art project:
        “this comment is hidden because…”

  63. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:41 pm

Ted, I hear you there. With the nature of the game being constant failure I can see why players have to look to good old JC for explanation but I would like to see a little bit less of the “givin glory” too.

That d-bag BFE has some sort of in at the SFGate tech group or something. I’m sure Twin could explain it better but there are always strange things revolving around his posts and responses to them.

  64. TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:42 pm

….over and over again. It’s actually kind of estheically beautiful

  65. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:43 pm

I love Travis, hell I liked him when he was up in’06. I called his first MLB HR 5 minutes before he hit, I’ve argued for a spot for him for years. I’ve just become resigned to the fact that they don’t like him. Maybe today WILL make a diff, it’s a first. I don’t think he’s ever shown that kind of straight away power, frankly it shocked me. As far as Belt, he could be up before September if they don’t pick up a Guillen, he’s been mostly playing the OF, not 1B.

    • TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:46 pm

  67. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:50 pm

I do not care one way or the other about Ishikawa’s beliefs or his proselytizing. When I was younger guys like Warner drove me up the wall. But they’re not hurting a damn soul, as far as I can tell Travis doesn’t beat women, abuse animals, or double dip. It’s all good with me.

    • TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:55 pm

      “a damn soul”

      Nice

  68. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:51 pm

That shot by Ishikawa impressed me too. He hits a real nice arcing shot when he gets ahold of one. Hadn’t that reliever only given up 2 or 3 jack prior to that?

I agree though. It is as if Bochy or Sabean or somebody doesn’t like the kid.

  69. dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:54 pm

Twin, Don’t get me wrong. It doesn’t bug me. I just don’t get it. Seems like a sort of juvenile approach to faith but that’s just me.

Hey, whatever it takes to get some knocks and steaks.

    • TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 7:57 pm

I was just razzing on those what win and win big. And they constantly thank God. What about the losers? Did God hate them?:
“Yeah, we had this game won. It was a no brainer. We were ahead 3 to 2. Bottom of the 9th inning. I walked the leadoff batter. I throw a changeup and then… JESUS gives the guy a freaking dinger. Jeez…, thanks”
I’m just saying. If you can thank God for a win…can’t you blame him/her for a loss?

    • dirtnrocksnreno said, on August 8, 2010 at 8:17 pm

Yeah, Kind of like repealing the 14th Amendment it is nonsensical.

  72. Michael said, on August 8, 2010 at 8:11 pm

Gringo, you’ve been instructed to shut the fuck up. Nothing you’ve submitted shows anything other than he MAY be just an average manager. And you flat fuck lied about what you posted about Ishikawa.

  73. TedSpe said, on August 8, 2010 at 8:15 pm

Once again, no facts. Why don’t you go on some kind of…I don’t know…website? And look up Bochy’s ML record. You sad, sad, fucking sad, sad pathetic little whiny fucking clown.
This is the absolute last time I respond to you. You fucking moron.
Sorry Flav. This fucking idiot just brings out the worst in me

I just took a peek at the Splash, probably haven’t been there is 2 weeks. It’s the Soph and BarryForever Show. at first, I would think those two fools would be bummed that the SPlash has been ruined, by them, and that they’d regret their actions. But they’re just chattering along, happy as could be. Two disturbed people, to be sure. But, as I’ve always said about them, they’d rather be noticed as irritating fucks than be ignored—they get enough of that in their daily lives……..

OK PG, bye bye. Too bad, I believe you’re a Giants fan and not like the other guys who I’ve banned, I don’t think you’re insane or anything, but your time here has run it’s course. Off to Marty Lurie’s Call in show you go…….

      I apologize for my tirade.
I’m the biggest idiot on this blog when it comes to baseball knowledge. But if I want to read that kind of stupid shit…I wouldn’t be here.
I love the Flap and all it stands for.
Baseball. DJLoo’s obscure movie references. Twin’s knowledge and irreverant insults. Pawlie’s obscure cerebrial language. Dennis’s betting tips. Chuck’s ongoing ridiculous banter during a game, blade’s fucking torture shots,…all you mofos!
I love this place and apogize if I left anyone out.
There’s only one thing missing from oneflapdown77.
      Japanese porn
