A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Buzzkill game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 14, 2010

So maybe the guarantee game needs to come from someone a little, I dunno, maybe….better? It worked for Namath but not too many other guys over the last 40+ years. Dirrrrrrty pitched how he usually pitches and we left 11 men on base. So much for shit-talkin’…..guillen starting will take the focus off the “sweep talk” and that’s a good thing. Dude mashes, when he makes contact. He’s not a “pie in the face guy” so don’t try that on him. He’s going to be a great stretch run addition…..

They would have pinch run for Buster if they had more left on the bench, and rightly so. But nice to see the kid hustle all the way. And even with Panda comng around, I’ll take walking him to get to Uribe any day.

Casilla has come up HUGE this week

Millar went off on a long repetitive Tony Gwynn tangent for no good reason after Posey punched a drive through the “5.5” hole. When someone punched one through between 1B and 2B a couple of innings later, he thought he was being witty when he called it the “4.5” hole. Fucking moron can’t even count around the IF. (Also, I found it really interesting when the game got tied and he told us that we had a “baseball game” going.) Nonetheless, Fox’s HD’s pretty good. After a while I always turn the sound off and just watch. Helluva game to watch today!

Wow! Just got home from an 85 mile roundtrip to do some grocery shopping and turned on the ‘puter figuring on glooming over the bad news. Surprise! Tie game in the top of the 11th, both bullpens stretched waaaaaay out and no victory for Latos. Then the Pads got runners on first and third with only one out and i cringed at tired-out Santiago Casilla on the mound facing those lucksters, hucksters and fucksters. But he damned well did it! Didn’t take no time for the offense to show their appreciation. Posey got his hit, advanced to second and the Pads didn’t wanna have anything to do with Panda, giving him the IBB. Then it was a guy who has come through time and again URRRRRRRRRRIBEEEE.

Tables got turned today. No way was i expecting a Giants victory, feeling they maybe had a 30% chance against Latos. So it just don’t get any better than that. It’s called serendipity~ an unexpected pleasant surprise. Last night being typical of the games between these two teams this year. ONE DAMNED RUN with the Giants seeming like they were trying to move around in two feet of wet cement and attempting to swing through snot. Stranded baserunners. Missed opportunities. Glitches in the field. But guess what? Today it was the Dagos’ turn to experience frustration and aggravation as they piled up double after double and intentional pass after another and hits galore ~ only to be stuck at two tallies like SF last night.

Something changed in the NL West today. The word is MOMENTUM. This game will put a fresh charge into Timmy. Way he’s been pitching lately he needs it. Funny thing how the hero of the Cubs series wore the collar today and how the guy who had been failing expectations of carrying the club, broke the spell. Welcome back Panda. I been getting tired of calling you Pablo. Plenty of them around baseball. Only one Kung Fu Panda. With ultimate assistance from Uribe, Posey, Bumgarner and a relief corps which rose today to match and then better the best bullpen in the game, the Giants did themselves proud today against their biggest tormentor of the season.

I expect a win tomorrow based on a recalibrated offense which proved today it can beat the best and blast the rest and on one skinny, longhaired pitcher making like Cy Young on the mound.

Burrell knocked in the tier on an 0/2 pitch Stix…great ab from him in the 8th

It really wasn’t that good of a win today. If they keep playing like this, the Giants will have an extremely difficult time making the playoffs. Very disappointing.

      Yeah, it was a heartbreaker…

Timmey can be average tomorrow and 10 years from now he will have 6 Cy Youngs.

    onward through the fog
and that is your San Francisco Giants winning today.

  12. wswinb4igo said, on August 14, 2010 at 5:23 pm

That’s kinda funny, ’cause i was thinking they play like this they may lose only 10 games the rest of the way…

  13. Michael said, on August 14, 2010 at 5:27 pm

Big game for Tim. At some point you need to get a ” I won’t lose” game out of your ace. If we get one, he gives up none…
Man, that Pad pen blows me away. We beat him, but fucking Stauffer is like the 6th motherfucker out there and his ERA was under ONE?

    • eddacker said, on August 14, 2010 at 6:11 pm

      noticed that, too
was thinking we could send them a starter and they could send us two relievers and the teams would still be even

Hey WS, thanks again for the Justin TV thing. It was kinda strange (like somebody filming the TV) but it worked for me.

      Cheers all

cheers, Bozo, even my ESPN feed to the UK isn’t near as nice as comcast local

Also kudos goes to the new kid on the block, Michael Fontenot, for doubling and scoring the tying run. Yes, Pat drove him in all right, but after recent performances i guess i’d been expecting just a tad more ~ like a sharp single which would have driven in two in the bottom of the 8th. But then there’s that Padre BP. Has the game ever had one to match it? No wonder their offense can dink its way to wins. Not only are those ERA’s low, but just about every WHIP in that pen is under 1.00. So under those circumcisions Pat the Bat did okay by tying the game.

Tired as they are from their recent exertions, particularly Casilla (who went three innings against the Cubs the other day) and Romo; the Giants relievers made believers out of a lot of happy fans. Maybe after today they too will know that they’re good.

  16. bigflavor said, on August 14, 2010 at 5:48 pm

by the way “IH1978”, I normally don’t do this, but I’m outing you. You’re “Pine”. Stop trying to incite with a hidden handle, just say what you want to say as “Pine”…….

  17. bigflavor said, on August 14, 2010 at 5:51 pm

Fontenot DOES deserve some props. On the radio it sounded like he made a few great defensive plays, too. I know K/K must have been bummed that they couldn’t fawn all over Freddy Sanchez, but still, this guy played a good game……

    Font fit
    great game for our team

  19. stixwiz said, on August 14, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Another little note of progress. As of today Torres caught up with Jayson Werth for the league lead in doubles at 38. Werth has a fair number of ABs more than Mr. Late Bloomer. Between his doubles, his defense, his clutch, his speed on the basis and even his occasional yank into the bleachers the torrid one has become one of the best outfielders in the game for total performance value. This guy plays a championship brand of baseball and it seems to be infecting some of his teammates. Maybe that wiry little cuss will get the kinda national attention he deserves come October.

  20. DJLoo said, on August 14, 2010 at 7:19 pm

The team record for doubles in a season is 49.
    (Jeff Kent – 2001)

    That runt?

  22. wswinb4igo said, on August 14, 2010 at 7:27 pm

Watching the game winner by Juan again, Burrell is a trip at the end of the video…he leaps from the rail clapping not knowing where to run…at Posey or Juan…he goes to Juan with everybody else.

  23. Craig said, on August 14, 2010 at 7:29 pm

I’m still trippin out on this win. I turned the radio off 3 times on the way home I was so pissed off at their failures. But they just kept coming. In extra innings I just felt certain we were going to win but also kept wondering how devastating it would be if we lost. Posey went from “lazy ass catching man” to “limitless energy man”— in the same fucking inning. Unreal….

  24. DJLoo said, on August 14, 2010 at 7:31 pm

It’s a disgrace how they’ve handed Kent’s number out to just anybody. Same with #22. Just because they’re not officially retired numbers doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a little reverence.

  25. wswinb4igo said, on August 14, 2010 at 9:09 pm

Reading about Guillen, health and attitude reflect his performance. He says he’s healthy and happy to be here. Not a bad idea by Bochy to sit him today, let him get familiar with RF here, and start against the LH tomorrow. We’re all rootin for him…

  26. bigflavor said, on August 14, 2010 at 9:19 pm

that’s not a bad take, WSWIN. ATT is a different animal and Guillen hasn’t been in a pennant race but a couple of times in 14 years–take it all in, go tomorrow. ANd what a game to take in!

  27. Michael said, on August 14, 2010 at 10:17 pm

The main value Gullien brings is just one more guy for the opponent to worry about and a stronger bench. The RF offensive production has been only a tick above that of the Winn-led 2009 so he certainly won’t hurt them there. And he’s easy to just dump if he doesn’t produce or is a pain in the ass. I’m ambivalent but hopeful…

  28. zumarust said, on August 14, 2010 at 11:33 pm

I’ve followed the Giants closely for a lot of years, and I have no idea what Kent’s number was.

    • zumarust said, on August 14, 2010 at 11:35 pm

“It’s a disgrace how they’ve handed Kent’s number out to just anybody.”

Oops- I forgot to say I was responding to this quote.

      A little shocking, Zumie!

  29. Unca Chuck said, on August 14, 2010 at 11:35 pm

Yeah, I was tripping on the fucking ERAs of the guys the Madres were trotting out there. We got Gregie, Adams, and Bell yesterday. We KNOW those guys are fucking doom. Today was the lesser known guys, and it was 1.32, 1.65, then zero point eight seven? I’m like, holy fuck! Who ARE these guys?!?

Fun to watch with the kids. Last weekend we’ll all be together for a while.

School starting already? Jesus, it’s mid-August for Christ Sakes. I can’t ever remember starting before Labor Day, but that was private school. They made their own rules which included getting hit with said ruler. Nothing like a swat on the wrist from Sr. Madeline at 9:00 in the morning to start your day off.

  33. DJLoo said, on August 15, 2010 at 6:00 am

They gave Guillen #1. An unforgivable slight to Bob Barton.

  34. delmardennis said, on August 15, 2010 at 7:27 am

Bob Barton? Never heard of ’em. I do recall a certain Barton who must have been a good one, he won the Triple Crown way back in 1919. Not an easy feat as we all know. Sounds like he also demanded a certain amount of respect as well. Everyone always called him Sir.
