A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Starting Off on the Wrong Foot….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 18, 2010

We sort of played right into their hands last night, didn’t we? Got 2 quick ones and then it just felt like we didn’t keep coming. The pitchers pitched defensively, too. You don’t try to protect a 2-0 lead in that park, you put your foot on their throat and keep hitting and hitting and hitting….

Ray has been marginal, at best, since he got here…….

Since May 16th Zito has won two games….And it’s not a lack of run support, he’s given up plenty of leads over that stretch…….

Blanton is just a *guy*, he’s an innings eater. He’ll give up 2 runs in the 1st while eating a couple of  ham sandwiches on the way to 6 or 7 innings of ho-hum pitched ball. We need to be aggressive against this team, in their park against this average-ass pitcher…….

One *over* in the books, 2 to go….

“This Giant club is going nowhere” See ya, then. Write often, John.

    • JBat said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:48 pm

Sorry, Mike, you’ve no room to talk. I’ve seen you bitching plenty the last week or so. “The Freak officially sucks.” Really?

The truth is, the San Francisco Giants cannot escape their losing history. They have had some fine seasons over the years, but there are only a few franchises that can boast a worse track record when it comes to a dearth of championships. They truly seem to be snake bit. If they turn it around, good, I’ll be the first to admit I’m wrong. But right now absolutely nothing is going right for them, and at a time when they need to be pushing for the finish. The vaunted pitching? Spiraling downward at this point.

Lots of time left, but the Padres have shown they are the class of the division and the Phillies are heating up. I seem to recall you stating early on SD would be toast around the all star break. Hasn’t worked out that way.

What are the Giants waiting for?

  2. max808 said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Doesn’t excuse the lack of hitting. It’s Blanton for chrissakes.

  3. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:41 pm

If they don’t rally, they’ll be two out with 41 games let. And it’s OVER? Unfuckingbelievable front running fuckwads here.

  4. DJLoo said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Yeah but there was no one on base….

  5. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Who’s “excusing” anything? Where do you come up with that shit?

  6. max808 said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Miller’s lighthearted, cheery tone when they are getting their ass kicked can be annoying.

    • Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Well, have Dennis do the play-by-play.

      • TedSpe said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:47 pm

That could lead to a Jim Jones type incident

  7. Macdog said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:47 pm

I guarantee it’s still better than watching this on ESPN.

  8. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:48 pm

“It’s a grounder to sec…OH MY GOD!!?? WHAT THE FUCK??!!! HEADS SHOULD ROLL!!! IT’S OVER AGAIN!! WHERE’S ISHI! FUCKING BLOCKHEAD! “

  9. snarkk said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Nobody’s saying it’s over. It’s just the noise of a bad game. Hell, they can still win this game. The division race looks nearly over, obviously the WC race is far from over…

  10. TedSpe said, on August 18, 2010 at 5:58 pm

I’m ceding nothing until the math forces me to

  11. Giant Head said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Time for the one big hit we. Have been waiting since Burrell’s grand slam…gp Torres.

  12. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:00 pm

5 or 6 game leads can be lost in a fucking week, and have been again and again. Nothing is over or close to over.

  13. Giant Head said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:01 pm

    Fudge fucking Fuck

  14. DJLoo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:01 pm

    The inning is.

  15. alleykat said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:02 pm

So much for that being a promising inning.

  16. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:02 pm

Except this game is kinda getting close. Not a damn thing you can do when your fastest runnerr hits it hard right to the second baseman..

  17. TedSpe said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:03 pm

If Rollins hits for the cycle, I’m gonna…..well… probably do nothong

    • TedSpe said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:04 pm

      • pickledgringo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:13 pm

game, set, match……..and most likely season.

  18. DJLoo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Sometimes a great defensive play can wake up a team in the doldrums.

  19. DJLoo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:13 pm

    Any decent starters in AAA?

  20. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:15 pm

    Tipping pitches. Totally believable…
Gringo: then it will be a pleasure to see the door hit your fat ass…

    • pickledgringo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:21 pm

Hard to have a fat ass when you run 5 miles/day.

      • DJLoo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:24 pm

        Every day? How fast?

      • pickledgringo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:26 pm

43 minutes on average. Depends on the weather and my hangover.

  21. snarkk said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Did I say they could still win this game? After Affeldt’s magic, I’ll say now it ain’t happenin’…

  22. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:18 pm

If you look back on some crucial hits, NOBODY sits on a change up from Lincecum or Cain unless they know it’s coming.
Affeldt gets a mulligan affter being out a few weeks.

  23. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:19 pm

“Any decent starters in AAA?” For who? You must be kidding. This is it, pal.

  24. alleykat said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:20 pm

This whole teams needs a mulligan right now.

    • snarkk said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:25 pm

As for Affeldt, nobody gets a mulligan if you’re cleared to play and on the 25 man. Maybe they can salvage one tomorrow, but doubtful. Kat, hope your scotch supply is stocked. You’re gonna need it. Adios all until manana, this one’s done….

  25. DJLoo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:23 pm

    or a Heineken.

  26. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:24 pm

I love seeing you boys come unglued when Buster gets criticized. If you recall, just to show how far he’s had to come, when he came up last year he couldn’t even get his fingers down in readble fashion. It drove the pitchers nuts, they had to have meetings to see if he was putting down 2 or 3. Big reason Bochy quit playing him.

  27. DJLoo said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:30 pm

    Yikes! Looked like Strawberry!

  28. Giant Head said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:35 pm

Flav hits the over congrats…too bad we are being humiliated to get there..

  29. alleykat said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:37 pm

Has Dominic Brown’s bomb landed yet? That’s 2 straight games Mota has given up an orbit shot.

Yeah gonna have to restock the Scotch Snarrk.

  30. TellItGoodbye said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:38 pm

A competitive game sometime this week would give cause for hope.

  31. Macdog said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:41 pm

I just hope Sanchez didn’t predict a sweep.

  32. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:42 pm

With Vern and Vera’s boy behind the dish, they’ve got a shot tomorrow.

  33. Jed said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:50 pm

5-9 in this slump, another 2-run effort added to the data. But, yeah, let’s ignore the obvious and hen peck at tipping pitches, errors, bullpen, Bochy.

  34. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:51 pm

Actually, it’s all on the white boys.

    • delmardennis said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:58 pm

      I thought that was rice.

  35. Jed said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:55 pm

Agreed, Sabean and Larry need a tan

    • delmardennis said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:00 pm

Need a tan? They should try celebrating Christmas first.

  36. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 6:56 pm

They give up 17 in two games and in Jediot’s world, the pitching was just fine…

  37. Jed said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:01 pm

Look at runs in the past 9 losses: scored 3 or more twice. Is this 1965?

  38. delmardennis said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:05 pm

Six back. I think there’s exactly (about) six weeks left in the season. What’s that about getting a game a week? Even I can do that math. Did Sanchez guarantee tomorrow’s game? Couldn’t hurt at this point.

  39. zumarust said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:07 pm

Atlanta wins in the bottom of the ninth on a “walk off” hit, as the broadcasters call it. That phrase “walk off” has evolved into a positive phrase. I’m sure I remember first hearing that phrase many years ago used only in a negative way, to describe the pitcher walking off. The pitcher has the lonely walk-off moment.

  40. Jed said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Lefties hitting .182 vs. Hammels. Nice day for Pablo and Torres to take a break, charity starts for Freddy and Rowand.

  41. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Actualy, it’s kind of good news that the team is just two out after a stretch where they haven’t hit, pitched, OR fielded well.
And no, that’s not a reach. They could be 0-14.

  42. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:14 pm

Pablo and Torres would be RIGHTIES against Cole, dumbfuck.

    • Jed said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:20 pm

Man, when prideful, you’re more fucking ignorant than I ever gave you credit for. Yes, when your dolls Pablo and Torres are turned around and hit RH, their numbers are poor this year. Good day for a break.

Are you still riding Velez as the greatest prospect since JR Phillips?

  43. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:18 pm

And Sanchez was always going to start against the lefty. Huff will sit. Buster at first, Whitey catching. Rowand MIGHT get a start but I doubt it. Same OF as tonight. Infield Posey, Sanchez, Uribe, Sandoval.

  44. Nipper said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:20 pm

    I feel like crying………for Dennis.

  45. Giant Head said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:20 pm

If Fonte-No! does not botch that, it is 1-1 going into the 5th. Changes the entire nature of the game and the hitters approach to pull out a win.

Not a great pitch from Cain on Rollins, was that a curve?

I think one of the problems with our starters is reliable third pitches, cutters and such. What ever happened to a good splitter or fork ball?

  46. Giant Head said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:24 pm

A 3-3 trip is still within reach. Sanchez now has to pitch the game of his life…

  47. zumarust said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:29 pm

Watching the Dodgers game, and actually watching the Dodger broadcast, with Vin Scully. I’m actually not finding Scully annoying, now that the Dodgers are having a bad season.

  48. Jed said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:31 pm

Nah. Pablo’s “issues” with LHP are old news. Jon Miller has pointed out Torres’ differences as RH batter many times. What kind of a dipshit would essentially bench Huff for Whiteside? And refuse to rest Pablo, keep the great fielding we’ve seen this week? For these 2-1 games you’re hoping to watch?

  49. blade3colorado said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:36 pm

1965? What the fuck are you talking about? Giants in 1965 scored 682 runs (with Mays, McCovey, and Hart scoring 118, 93, and 91 respectively) which comes to 4.2 runs per game.

  50. delmardennis said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:38 pm

No need to bother, Nipper. I’m crying enough tonight for the both of us.

I know it’s not healthy, but I’ve always allowed, check that, allow isn’t the right word. That insinuates giving permission or authorization. I’ve always felt the ramifications of the team’s success, good or bad, dictates my mood, temperament, and overall general outlook. I have no say in the matter. I can’t fucking help it.

  51. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:41 pm

Answer the question, asshole: who plays for Panda? It can only be Fontenot. A *left hander* who committed 2 errors in two games. Huff is going to sit because he’s been terrible, Sanchez does seem to like throwing to Eli, AND Buster can use a break from behind the plate.
Just wrap your lips around the .45 jerkfuck, you’re too stupid to live. Welcher, liar, idiot… hat trick.

  52. DJLoo said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:41 pm

While you sulk, they’re hooking up with their Philadelphia whores.

    • delmardennis said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:54 pm

While they spend a buck to engage in a foolish pleasure that poses a genuine risk, I’ll continue to ponder and regret tonight’s loss.

      • Macdog said, on August 18, 2010 at 8:09 pm

Except Pablo, who probably went to either Pat’s or Gino’s.

  53. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 7:57 pm

Three weeks ago Minnesota was 7 games behind the Sox. If they hold on tonight, they’ll have a 5 game lead.

giants looked bad, sf gate is licking the buttholes of all the regular trolls. It is bad times

  57. Jed said, on August 18, 2010 at 8:34 pm

Except “Panda” vs. LHP in 2010 is 0 HR, .233 ba, .588 ops, while “Fruckie” has a surprising .814 ops vs. LHP and even that number in his woeful August. He’s still the 2009 Panda (1.028 ops vs. LHP) only in your wet dreams where you pretend to have discovered and signed him in the 4th grade.

When faced with a modest challenge, just revert to calling people names like child. You called Flavor a racist? Because he disagreed? Schulman banned you from Splash and Flavor nearly dropped this blog over these toddler tantrums. In the end, at the core, name-calling is all you’ve got. I expected a lot more.

There are a few of the splash idiots who drop by from time to time but the settings I have usually just sendS them into my spam filter. One of them tries 10 times a day, i’m surprised he keeps going when none of his posts ever show up. I love it, I get all kinds of great personal info from them that I plan on dispersing to all of you at some point. All in good time..

  62. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 10:11 pm

Henry doesn’t ban antbody, it’s done by a team of “blog moderators”. I can post anytime I please…
It was never Panda vs. Sanchez, you moron. Sanchez is starting regardless as I already told you. It’s Panda vs,. Fontenot. Pablo will start…

  63. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 10:19 pm

    “Anybody”..
Jediot doesn’t even know how the blogs work, ferchrissakes. Henry has zero to do with content and approval. When I was banned, it was for an “inappropriate” response to a poster who attacked me and my daughter personally. He was also banned. I can now post, I agreed with the moderators to post under “twinnie” is all. I no longer post on the Splash for unrelated reasons: it is now dominated by the Jediots and Sophs…
True to form, Jed is steadfastly ignoring his ignorance: now he’s pretending it’s Pablo or Sanchez. Absolute rubbish.
Most likely LU tomorrow, with record against Hamels (NOT “Hammels”:
    Torres CF ( 1-3 2 RBI )
    Sanchez 2B ( 3-9 2 RBI)
    Posey 1B N/A
    Burrell LF N/A
    Guillen RF ( 2-3 2 double, 2 RBI)
    Uribe SS ( 0-6)
    Sandoval 3B ( 2-7 1 double)
    Whiteside C ( 0-4)
And show me where I called Flavor a racist. I want the quote, fuck. Now.

  64. Michael said, on August 18, 2010 at 10:28 pm

BTW, interesting that Jed, Snarkk, and another poster here all have the EXACT same opinion of Ishikawa. I mean exact, even the wording is almost the same when he’s discusssed. A bizarre take from ONE person, let alone 3 who all browse the same blog. Aside from the absurdity of declaring a guy with his contributions and numbers “worthless”, it’s extremely interesting that they all HATE him. Are they simply agents of Satan or worse: baseball spazzes?

Is that a Vince Lombardi quote or a tip for controlling head lice?

Sun came up again today. All is not lost. Almost, but not quite. Some deft pitching by Dirty, a little timely hitting by the boys and we’ll be back in the win column today. Jesus, I sound like a broken cliché machine this morning. Well, despite being caught between a rock and a hard place. If we continue to play ’em one game at a time, and remember that slow and steady wins the race…ah, fuck it. Just win the damn game tonight. Go Giants!
