A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Ugly Got Uglier…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 29, 2010

Not much to say about this weekend series– Zito was predictably awful. I can’t wait to hear the excuses from his boyfriend Michael Urban. In some ways this is his worst year in SF of all the four. He’s just unraveled at a time when the team needs him the most. That bomb he gave up to make it 9-1 was  a batting practice pitch…..

Every starter we have is pitching like shit right now… Giants are -230 to win today, the D-backs are +205. Jesus, if you were a guy who bets this game how can you realistically put money down on the Giants with that +205 hanging out there for the taking?

And I’m tired of this “Uh oh, we’re in a hole again” right off the bat in the first inning. The energy just gets sucked out of the team with every roped bomb. F-that, you’re in a hole, don’t freaking give up in the first inning! That’s what if feels like they’ve been doing lately. Power through it, persevere. This is the freaking DBACKS……

This used to be a two-pack game, now it’s a 15 lollipop game.

maybe the team should wear its heart on its sleeve and say: this one is for you timmeh,
each and every game from here on out.
I am sure Cainer would agree

Atleast Bonehead was smart enough to bring in Wilson over Osama Bin Romo.

Zumie, u nailed it with that Blake comparison

Not to mention, for those who value the C/ERA stat, Eli’s has risen a tad in the last two days…

    Runt attack,it’s a beautiful thing!

  8. Michael said, on August 29, 2010 at 3:56 pm

Upton is a less than enthusiatic defender. Not saying he should have had that but the semblence of effort is generally appreciated in the dugout. Gibson must hate that guy.

    • eddacker415 said, on August 29, 2010 at 3:58 pm

so true, not the Upton I am used to seeing, seems a bit out of it.

    • willied said, on August 29, 2010 at 4:14 pm

plus he let the Runt get one in front of him earlier. Catch something, eh? Why bother to bring a glove if you ain’t gonna use it.

even FP is sounding good tonight, is there something in the water down @ China Basin?

  10. zumarust said, on August 29, 2010 at 3:57 pm

Will, there’s that split-second when both players want to see what the ump’s call is, and don’t want to influence his call the wrong way. Because the moment either one of them moves to the plate, they’re admitting something. Whiteside admitting he missed the tag, and the runner admitting he missed the plate. They both have that split-second where they hope the ump missed the play. But they both immediately realized the ump had seen everything.

    One clean inning???

  12. zumarust said, on August 29, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Ed, FP may be trying to tone down the FP humor a bit. He does sound a bit better when he isn’t trying to be a clown all the time.
But I have to admit being a little annoyed at his almost-prideful boasting about not going to a library. Like reading a few books wouldn’t benefit the dude.

    • delmardennis said, on August 29, 2010 at 4:05 pm

You’re assuming that he can read.

    • eddacker415 said, on August 29, 2010 at 4:14 pm

they just released a ‘study’ here that only 21% of people use the libraries. sounds like the conservatives trying to cut costs, again. In all the wrong places. My wife figures it is closer to 80% of people use them one way or another.

  13. zumarust said, on August 29, 2010 at 4:02 pm

    They can’t get LaDouche out.

  14. delmardennis said, on August 29, 2010 at 4:08 pm

I’ll take it. I said we’d score 10 today, Nedney must have missed the PAT.

    Franchez is 20 for 43 in last 10 games…

  18. unca chuck said, on August 29, 2010 at 4:32 pm

Wow. Needed that one big time. StL lost.Philly won.

Colorado is getting closer, slowly but surely. This is a gigantic series with them. GOT to take at least 2 of 3.

Game notes from the AP wrap says Runzler will be activated when rosters expand on Wednesday. Don’t expect him to be already in top form, but let’s hope he can contribute.

  20. Michael said, on August 29, 2010 at 5:01 pm

He lost today in relief, but of course he’ll be back. He’s their best bet to strike out a lefty. The best bet to walk him, too. But in those situations a walk is almost always ten times better than a hit. Very misunderstood, that.

  21. DJLoo said, on August 29, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Based on what I’ve seen, Runzler’s also a good lefty bat off the bench.

Horribly ugly home uni’s the rays have on tonight. I don’t even know what color that is

I think the Jays were in their 1980s soft-blue today too…

With Timmy poor and Zito past horrid, the Giants took only one game in a series where they should have taken at least two and probably would have won all three if Zito and Lincecum had been in early season form. So in both the Divisional and WC races they’re hanging on by the skin of their teeth, mainly cause of that faltering, sputtering rotation. And today the bullpen caught that virus. Baseball gods gave a halfassed, shiteating grin today. Yesterday, the best precis of where they were at was in the bottom of the second with one out and two on, down by five runs and Zito lines into that IF DB. Killer.

At least today the bats were back, admittedly against a scrub starter for Arizona. No question the team needs to take at least two of three from the Rox, cause then its the road again while the Giants needed to fatten up on that home cookin, particularly with the Padres finally slipping and sliding. Drrrty and Bumgarner need to be on their games and can we possibly hope for something positive outta Timmy? 31 games to go. Team needs to get it together these next 3 games or its another season gone by the wayside.

POTG = Franchez. Maybe he’s healed up more now…

  25. Michael said, on August 29, 2010 at 6:55 pm

Well, I’d give it to Wilson but Fruckie is a good choice. Honrable mentions to Guillen for the big hit after all his gaffes, and Whitey for living through it all.

  26. Michael said, on August 29, 2010 at 7:20 pm

Some other notes: the 5-4-3 DP in the 9th was well played by all, tough half hop, good feed, great turn..
smart try by Panda on the dribbler down the line….
    Pablo now .313, .922 OPS 6 HR in August…
I don’t know if he’s the best, but Wilson is the gutsiest closer in the league…
Loved the one pitch SF from Ross…
Alright, alright: I could be talked into Huff AND LaRoche for 2011..

  27. Michael said, on August 29, 2010 at 8:23 pm

And one more: Cain’s first inning, after everybody at the game or listening or watching on TV was going” FUCK PISS SHIT NOT AGAIN!” might be one of the clutch jobs of the year. Huge…

I watched that video of Parra sliding, missing, and diving with Whiteside, back toward the plate. Great video. Zumie’s post at 3:57 catches it well, the realization, the need to act, and the lunge. I still can’t decide whether Eli was out of position and whether the throw took him there. Even so, exciting action. Small moments that are very memorable.
