A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

September 1st….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 1, 2010

Call up day. Bochy has to be sighing a bit of relief at the new bodies he’s getting. Uribe is in desperate need of some time off and whether it’s Renteria or Burriss who give him a blow, that dude needs to get a blow….

So who’s getting called up?

Here’s the link to our minor league stats:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/minorleagues/affiliates/index.jsp?c_id=sf

Outside of middle infield help I’m not sure what our team really NEEDS right now. We’ve got about 16 outfielders already vying for time. The bullpen has sorted itself out pretty good in terms of roles and Runzler will be taking his spot back today so I don’t know how many new guys we’re going to be seeing coming out of the bullpen. Brandon Belt? Sure, why not but I don’t know when he would play.  Couldn’t hurt to give him a view from the bench and a PH now and again…….

How about Chris Dominguez down at Augusta (not for a call up, just *how ’bout him*)?  He seems like he can hit a little, but 30(!) —t-h-i-r-t-y— errors this year. Dude might want to learn how to play 1st base or he’s headed down the same road Jesus Guzman is traveling down…….

Ubaldo vs Timmy— this is not a must win game. I’m telling myself that partly because it’s true and partly because I’ve lost faith in Tim Lincecum. If he can’t beat the #3’s of the league how is he going to beat this guy (who he’s already lost to)……

Hey Padres, what are those footsteps you are hearing behind you????

The move of the day was not just the insertion of Ford on a 1-1 pitch, but really was brilliant calling him up today. I was not expecting it and it was the GM move of the year next to trading Bengie.

Didn’t Ford even have trouble getting to SF today?

Time to crush the Bastards of LA and watch the Padres cry into their little girlie blankets!!! 4-2 for the next two series and 2-4 from the Padres! The sports media were ready hand the NL West to the Padres even on the ESPN shows today….we will get the last laugh!

This is the Lincy that gives you confidence. 1 walk and 9 k… with many more swing thrus during the night…his last 13 innings have been Lincy like.

Giants are due to face a very demoralized squad of LaBumbos at the Latrine over the weekend. Who knows, even Zito may have amped in a new lease on life after Timmy’s masterpiece tonight. Cain is off the schneid with those guys. Sanchez is coming off a great performance and may be ready to show he can do that twice in succession. This is the first time since the Bonds days that i feel they have a realistic chance of sweeping the Bums.

Beating Ubaldo tonight was a monster shot in the arm for the position players. Now that they know that Timmy’s back and that the Dagos are sinking, they may be ready to go on a tear.

Bullpen got a rest tonight and tomorrow, so even if Zito is no better than so-so fair, there’s still a good chance of winning the game. Plus now with Runzler returning, there’s a pair of lefties so that Bochy’s bullpen magic gets a major boost.

It’s been a yo-yo season, a seesaw season, but now that we have hit September maybe the Giants are ready to torture somebody else.

Lincecum was magnificent..I was worried with going full counts to Young and Fowler in the first inning. That has led to disaster to the last few weeks, but something clicked in his approach to hitters for the rest of the game. He has not been this efficient with his pitches in months if not the whole season.

First game with Zito in LA has to be a statement game to bury the Bastards!

Timmy’s 6th biggest start of the year. 5,4,3,2,1 yet to come..

Bozo: Wishing you and the folks in the Outer Banks the best. Stay dry. Stay warm. Stay safe.

Dodgers, at least their manager, will play this weekend like a 3 game World Series.

  8. giant head said, on September 1, 2010 at 9:04 pm

we’ll see if the Bastardos have any fight in them…why the first game will be huge. We take that first one, it will be like a quick knockdown in the first round. We will have them on the mat and then taking a standing 8 count by game two and then the TKO Sunday Night on a national tv game!

Twin: Thanx again for the ‘Puter. Watching the game via Kostaz was sheer delight. Still haven’t learned much else about the unit, but that screensaver dude you put into the system sure looked good tonight. Vintage Timmy. What a gift. What a pair of gifts.

The Halloween Machine got its mainspring restored tonight. He didn’t do too well against all those #3’s, but put him up against a primary Cy Young candidate and he goes spot-on golden with a sense of timing Central Casting would totally envy.

Fontenot and Ford are the examples of… it’s gonna take everybody who suits up to win it..

plus we get two extra days of the rest after tomorrow while the fading arms of San Diego are going to be extra worn by the time the season ends in SF….I am feeling good…first time in what 7 years to feel like we are headed to the promised land…

Amen! Wee’s a comin’ Lordie to da promised land!

Unfortunately, I got to see / hear zero of this game. The result looks pretty damn good. One run for Rocks must mean Timmy is back. That is cool. I’ll watch for the late highlights with a nice tumbler of Highland Single Malt. Welcome September, you’re lookin’ good right now…

God is it fucking depressing to realize that Jaymee Sire is an *older* woman to these punks 😉

    Hey, you know?
I have *never* talked shit about Bochy’s managerial style, never called him “blockhead” or “botchy” or anything like that. Never questioned his choices…nothing. Made a joke here or there but never questioned his talent. But watching his post game interview tonight, it finally dawned on me why others have. It’s a physical thing.
    How he looks.
And I think they’d shut up if Bochy would just *once*, just *once* say:

” A thousand men, say, go searchin’ for gold. After six months, one of them’s lucky: one out of a thousand. His find represents not only his own labor, but that of nine hundred and ninety-nine others to boot. That’s six thousand months, five hundred years, scramblin’ over a mountain, goin’ hungry and thirsty. An ounce of gold, mister, is worth what it is because of the human labor that went into the findin’ and the gettin’ of it. Aah, gold’s a devilish sort of thing, anyway. You start out, you tell yourself you’ll be satisfied with 25,000 handsome smackers worth of it. So help me, Lord, and cross my heart. Fine resolution. After months of sweatin’ yourself dizzy, and growin’ short on provisions, and findin’ nothin’, you finally come down to 15,000, then ten. Finally, you say, “Lord, let me just find $5,000 worth and I’ll never ask for anythin’ more the rest of my life.” :

Then do that crazy man dance. That would shut everyone up.
Bottom line? I have and always have found Bochy a good baseball manager.
Good game. And goodnight, gentlemen (question mark)

Tell me this: who would EVER in the wildest of dreams, think the Giants could be where they are with Tim and Zits 0-9 in August? I think that is fucking mind boggling,,

  18. xootsuit said, on September 1, 2010 at 10:02 pm

Not mind boggling at all. What’s cool, however, is that SD is finally hitting the patch we all expected long ago. This Sept. is the Giants time to shine. It won’t take Lincecum, or Pablo, or Uribe, or etc. to get right. It’ll take the whole team (even Guillen, who doesn’t seem to be playing 4-5 days per week, thank the lard). Not many games left. The several off days cut two ways — nice rest, but no chance to take charge of their own advance on those days. Bigtime winning % ahead.

I hope Lincecum’s hair is twice as long as it is now when he throws his final pitch this season.

    • Michael said, on September 1, 2010 at 11:04 pm

Not mind boggling? the 1-2 starters 0-9 and they only lose 1 1/2 games to the Pads? God, that’s Yogi shit, pal.

      • Cal_Stim25 said, on September 2, 2010 at 1:53 am

its really not at all that mind boggling when you consider the adjustment the Padres were due.

Just returned from the pub. A great win, especially for Timmy–here’s several observations:
    * I don’t recall many curves from Timmy until the 5th; from then on, although it didn’t look great tonight, he used it a lot, they weren’t waiting on his fastball, and he looked more confident;
    * he is throwing his fastball down the tube because he’s not pitching with a lot of confidence; after the 5th, with his curve working, all of a sudden he’s spotting the fastball nicely, especially on Young in the top of the 7th;
    * on Ubaldo’s base-hit up the middle, big series with less than 30 games to go, why isn’t Fontenot laying out? when else is it time to do so?
    * I’m nitpicking, but why did Boche have Posey running on that strikeout-throwout?
    Let’s roll with this win!
    * it’s a nice night, Tim vs. Ubaldo, division game, close race, where the hell was the crowd?

    • wswinb4igo said, on September 1, 2010 at 10:10 pm

The pub must’ve gotten to you Ed…

Lincy used the cb all night .getting ahead for strike 1 with it alot…he was spotting his pitches well all night..
Posey is running on the 3/2 pitch to avoid the gidp…unfortunately sando whiffed…

  20. EdGdsnInExile said, on September 1, 2010 at 10:07 pm

Okay, my excited signoff ‘Let’s roll’ got ahead of my last point. Two pints of Bell’s Michigan something-or-other…

Bowker called up and in his only plate appearance with Bucs, struck out.

  22. Michael said, on September 1, 2010 at 11:07 pm

Actually, Tim appeared more neatly groomed tonight. I’d think the self pride might have helped. Definitely some destraggling took place.

  23. Michael said, on September 1, 2010 at 11:10 pm

“even Guillen, who doesn’t seem to be playing 4-5 days per week, thank the lard”
He’s started 14 games since August 15. Do the math.

    • xootsuit said, on September 2, 2010 at 6:45 am

Baseball ref says Guillen has started 10 games in the last 14 days. That is 5 per week, average. In the last 5 games, however, he started three times, but stayed in long enough to get 1 AB in one of those games and 2 ABs in the other. I was being optimistic about limits on his playing time based on recent indicators. It’s a trend. Take a look.

  24. eddacker415 said, on September 2, 2010 at 12:02 am

ACK! Missed a good one from my man Tim. didn’t get the news of the early start.

Seeing Tim and Bruce walk off arm in arm almost brought a tear to my eyes. We are all joyful and relieved to see him pitching well after all the rumors around his poor Aug.
Guess it wasn’t the hair after all. Or at least no more than a little destraggling couldn’t cure.
After watching the replays that Ford looks *really* fast.
Solo HR – Seeing eye base hit – speedball error – Go Giants.
Still on pace to hit my 92 preseason wins; although had I wanted to enter the final contest I would have adjusted that number. August was a tough month.
