A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Padres Could Easily Finish in 3rd Place….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 6, 2010

I was half-way listening to Marty Lurie in the car yesterday and I THINK he said that only one team in the history of baseball has ever lost 10 in a row and still made the playoffs–1951 Giants (I think). And the Padres are forced to look around the locker room and not be thinking “Ok, this will pass, we are the best team, etc…”. They’re looking around going “uh oh, this is what everyone said we would be before the season started”.  If anything, we need to worry a little about Colorado– they’re playing well and if we get hit by San Diego on their freefall down it’s totally possible that the Rockies slide right on up to the top of the division…….

Depending on the outcome of the next couple of days we could literally be in a position to BURY the Padres in our upcoming seires with them later in the week……

10 freaking games lost in a row. Amazing. 80% of the Giants fan base would have committed suicide if that had happened to us……

Boise holds them off! Actually the real reason I like these guys is (being from San Jose St) the way they fuck up the bullshit bulldogs of Fresno St.

Torre is one of the most overrated managers in history, but that’s beside the point. What matters is, he’s given up. He lets Ausmus bat with the tying run at second. Then he brings in Baby Huey to make sure the game gets away.

Scully needs a broadcast partner. He talks too much for TV, so just let him tell stories.

Nice song, DJ, I actually kind of liked that.
Those kind of old love-of-baseball songs are a nice memory of when baseball was THE sport in America. When I was a kid there were pick up baseball games on the schoolgrounds afterschool and on the weekends. Just a bunch of kids showing up with their own bats and gloves, and our own particular ground rules, like- over the cafeteria is a homerun, etc. Nothing like that exists anymore. All the youth baseball today is organized expensive little leagues and pony leagues, with mostly upper-middle class white kids participating.

Youth baseball is mostly about getting the little brats a scholarship. Rarely does anyone care who wins or loses. Often, teams don’t even stay for the conclusion of tournaments …. because they have another one to go to!

It’s kind of sad that youth baseball has become like golf and tennis.

All good … eliminate the Dodgers. Beat the Padres yourselves.

  20. zumarust said, on September 6, 2010 at 10:09 pm

The Padres win, and celebrate like they won the 7th game of the World Series.

And yet only 23,000 at Petco for this huge series…

  21. Michael said, on September 6, 2010 at 10:12 pm

Even back in the 50’s the pick up games were more fun than the organized Little League games. The parents are who have always screwed things up…
