A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Duck and Cover Time…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 8, 2010

It’s a good thing this game is being played in a dome. Otherwise, anyone walking within 3 miles of the stadium would have to wear a hardhat to protect themselves from the bombs Zito is going to be giving up tonight. I haven’t checked this but I would guess that in the first month of the season Zito’s fastball was averaging at least 3 or 4 mph faster than it has in the last 2 months of the season. His fastball is gone people, at least for the rest of this year. And when you’re throwing 84-85 that just isn’t going to cut it. He’ll get a few guys out but over the course of the game he will leave several of those fatties over the plate and Arizona will punish him……

He’s had one win since June 12th and he hasn’t won a road game since the middle of May. Arizona is -130, Giants +110. How could anyone of sound mind bet on the Giants at a paltry +110 with those horrific stats to consider?

All right, I hope I’ve successfully pulled of the “reverse jinx” and Zito pitches a beauty tonight……

Shocked that Bochy went for a runner in “only” the 7th. This tiger has new stripes.

I have missed a lot of games lately so maybe I’m just wag off base on this. I can see guillen’s obp/bs etc but I just don’t see it. He’s got what? 1 bomb? He strikes out almost every time I watch him hit. Again, I’ve missed a lot of at bats the last 10 days or so.

  3. bigflavor said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:20 pm

This dude is faster than Rajai Davis. That neck tat has to go tho

  4. bigflavor said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:22 pm

Did u see that lead? Ford doesn’t give a shit about reading the move. He’s gonna go as long as the pitcher goes home. And he’s so quick he can get back no problem even with that monster lead

  5. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:22 pm

Probably needed another lefty or two in the lineup considering how the Giants have flailed at the slider all night. Second guessing admittedly

  6. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:26 pm

OK … so even a lefty can flail. I guess he wasn’t watching the game so was surprised at another changeup

  7. snarkk said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Ishi’s ABs have been crap lately, and that’s charitable…

  8. bigflavor said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Best ph in league to worst ph in league in 6 weeks. Oh well, the sample is rarely large enough to glean anything

    • TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:32 pm

True, but by the 7th you should be laying the pitch he’s been throwing out of the strikes zone all night

  9. TedSpe said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:30 pm

D-Backs pitching coach is a fag

  10. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:37 pm

So Montero beats you …. another thing that just can’t happen.

  11. stixwiz said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:38 pm

Damn! Affeldt wooden tonight. Bad fielding by Torres, RentMan.

  12. BIrddog said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:40 pm

    Really missing BD right now

  13. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:41 pm

Another situation where Torres will be bunting next year.

  14. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:42 pm

No effort to get on base. No walks, no bunts, no leaning into one and certainly no hits.

  15. delmardennis said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:44 pm

4 for his last 47 (.085) If Yungo don’t go, we don’t go. Simple as that.

    • TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:48 pm

You think 47 ABs is enough to make an adjustment? Maybe try something different?

      • JBat said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:51 pm

Given his success to this point, no.

  16. IH1978 said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:47 pm

    Weak ab by Posey

    • Michael said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:52 pm

      Buster hater!!

      • TedSpe said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:55 pm

        Yeah, what a fag

  17. Michael said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:56 pm

You don’t want a guy with 60+ extra base hits fucking around bunting.A guy like Fruckie? Absolutely. You don’t need great speed to drag bunt. Burriss is another, guys with no pop…

    • TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:01 pm

I dont disagree entirely, but then don’t lead him off if you’re not asking him to do whatever he can to get on base. An extra base hit is virtually the same value as a bunt hit in this situation, and the bunt ought to be more likely in Torres’ case. And again, threat of a bunt creates opportunities. I’m not saying he should be bunting to lead off the game, but it really should be part of his game.

Pretty funny Dodger game … the give the Padres three baserunners in a row. Refuse to catch a popup, refuse to cover first on a bunt, then throw too late on a bunt. The Padres’ forfeit lineup has met a team less willing to win!

  18. JBat said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:57 pm

Looks like we might be two back heading to SD. The G’s are gonna need three of four.

  19. delmardennis said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:57 pm

Bloop, bloop, blast works for me.

  20. JBat said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:59 pm

    Fucking Dodgers are doing nothing.

  21. Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:00 pm

Dodgers are conspiring. Bases loaded for the Pads after a bloopers that barely got out of the infield and two sac bunts.

    • Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:02 pm

Infield in, weak line drive gets over everyone, left fielder doesn’t even bother to throw, two runs in foe the Pads after a bloop two sac bunts and a soft line drive that almost bounced on the infield dirt. Amazing.

    • TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Wow … that one wasn’t a strike from the moment it was conceived. Weird

  22. delmardennis said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:02 pm

I’ll take a hard bloop. Keep it coming….

  23. alleykat said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:02 pm

    There’s a nice start.Guillen smoked that one.

  24. stixwiz said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:02 pm

Bums totally mailing it tonight. Guillen keeps it interesting.

  25. alleykat said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Nice job Rent way to swing at ball 4.

  26. Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Renteria and Uribe are swinging at absolute fucking garbage.

  27. delmardennis said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:07 pm

Why he threw Juan a strike, I’ll never know. Silly.

    C’mon Cody. One time!

  28. stixwiz said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:07 pm

RentMan pressing. Too aggressive. But would Panda have done any different?

    • EdGdsnInExile said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:09 pm

That’s was my question in the previous inning. What was the reasoning in pulling Sandoval? From the radiocast, sounded like he’s been hitting them on the nose. Given the weak offense, not sure you play so much for defense…

      • Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:18 pm

They pinch ran Ford for Pablo. I think they were only down 1 at that point. It wasn’t a defensive replacement.

  29. TedSpe said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Lighten up,imbeciles. The Giants may lose but it *AIN’T” the end
    Take a deep breath

  30. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:09 pm

Oh well … they could hardly have made it easier for a pretty bad relief pitcher. What did he throw, about 2 strikes?

    Next!

  31. ferrethead said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:09 pm

What a sadly fitting way for the game to end…

    Bleah

  32. TedSpe said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:11 pm

    Okay.
    Let’s process.
    Zito lost
    But he pitched well
    Lucky
    Satan

    SWan Diego next
    That’s the story

    • JBat said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Fuck Zito. Even when he pitches “well,” it’s usually just well enough to lose.

  33. IH1978 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:12 pm

Tough to go into SD down 2. Not tough to out pitch Zito.

  34. snarkk said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:12 pm

Rockies are on frickin fire. If Giants/Pads beat each other up, Rocks are going to be right in the mix after the weekend…

  35. delmardennis said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:13 pm

Fucking end this on that crap. Son of a bitch.

Well, it’s quite simple: We need to at least split in SD or the season is kaput.
No two ways about it. FP was looking ahead to SD? Worthless piece of crap. Cheat some more you sorry excuse for a TV/radio show host. FP sucks Donkey Kong.

And fuck the Friars! Still a chance their plane goes down next roadie. Costanza says it’s due.

  36. Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:17 pm

They’re hardly out of it, but when you see guys swing at ball after ball after ball against a shitty reliever, well that gets people riled up.

    • TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Yep … that guy wanted to lose it. Giants wouldn’t let him.

  37. TedSpe said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:17 pm

    Nice suit
Faggy incredibly wrong “wrong” tie ya fag, FP Steroid motherfucker
    Okay.
    I’m thru.
Giants are still rock’n roll this year
    C YA TMOROW!!!
    Gentlemen (question mark)

    • delmardennis said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:34 pm

      good (question mark) night.

  38. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:17 pm

Y’all aren’t enjoying a thorough embarrassment of the Doghairs.

The Giants win 5 of 7 from the Pads or they don’t deserve it anyway. So yeah, 3 of 4 is the call, assuming Latos pitches Sunday.

  39. IH1978 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Sad effort when everyone else ahead of them won.

    • Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:21 pm

What other people did shouldn’t make it any sadder. Very few quality ABs tonight. Zito pitched well and kept them in offense. Offense took a dump tonight.

  40. snarkk said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:20 pm

One could complain about 2 outta 3 in Phoenix, but I’ll take it. LA freakin laid down like dogs in San Diego. Giants must at least split this weekend to keep close as Pads go on that long roadie starting next week. Split won’t be EZ, but they’ve got to get it done…

    • Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Sanchez, Bummie, Lincecum, Cain. 3/4. Book it.

    • TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Seriously … why is a split no easy (by MLB standards). Do you see the Padres lineup? Three of the four starters are extremely hittable. C’mon … enough with the respect.

      • snarkk said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:35 pm

Pads have eaten the Giants lunch this year, I friggin respect that. Now the Pads have taken 3 straight, probably have some confidence, and they’re at home. A split would be fine, plenty of games left after that. Taking 3 outta 4 is gravy. Giants absolutely can’t lose 3 of 4 and be 4 back after the weekend…

      • Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:38 pm

Pads were given three straight. Dodgers played like a fucking AAA squad.

  41. EdGdsnInExile said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:20 pm

Remember that Rocks are great at home, lousy on the road. However, of their remaining games, they have a few more at home than on the road.

  42. Michael said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:20 pm

You people with your “effort” bullshit. They tried, they lost. Move on.

  43. IH1978 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:21 pm

They’d be well ahead now had they avoided being bitch slapped by the pads all year

  44. Michael said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:31 pm

Anyone qusetioning this team’s effort DOES need to move on.To the Splash.

  45. delmardennis said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:32 pm

2 and fucking 9 against those bastards makes me irate. How the hell did that happen?
2 and 9? Jesus H. Christ. OK, We split in SD and leave the zoo 2 GB. Then we go at least 6-3 vs LA/MIL/CHI while the Friars go 4-6 vs COL/STL/LA The Rockies will stay hot however and by Friday the 24, we’ll have a 1/2 game lead on both the Friars and Rox. That’s way too tense and nerve-racking. But it all starts with a split in SD.

SD is a MUST SPLIT !

  46. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:35 pm

What the hell does Kuiper mean when he says they’ll play like their hair’s on fire. They don’t have a “hair’s on fire” offense. And if the implication is they will do something they haven’t done already … well, I wouldn’t understand why they would be waiting. So I won’t look for it.

  47. TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:37 pm

Giants have given away virtually every game the Padres have won against them. They stop giving them away, they win. In that sense, it’s pretty simple

  48. stixwiz said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Call it the Zito effect ~ on the Giants offense. That third run was the killer and the defensive glitches ran a close second. Except for Freddy’s bomb, the hitters just were not up for it. RentMan and Uribe were putrid in the 9th. It reminded me of some of those games against the Padres where they were frozen solid by a good young pitcher and then when they had a chance against a couple of so-so relievers they just couldn’t make it happen. I wonder if Burrell would have been the better call for the PH role in the seventh as Ishi hasn’t been getting it done lately ~ oh well, we’ll never know.

We’ve got our four best starters going in north suburban Tijuana over the last leg of the road trip. Unless the batting totally goes south, i can’t see anything less than a split. Fuck the Dodgers. For my birthday present next week i want to see them macerated in a three game sweep. If Lady Billingsley is pitching, may he throw like he did against the Dagos tonight.

    • TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 10:55 pm

I dont think Bills threw very badly. Those last three runs were all the result of Little League play by the Dodgers

  49. wswinb4igo said, on September 8, 2010 at 10:11 pm

Cal…for a know it all…you should get the rotation in SD right…

    • Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Wrong order, correct people. My bad. When I have the time or effort to care, I’ll put up the match ups if you’d like.

  50. Michael said, on September 8, 2010 at 10:14 pm

That was a famous Kissinger quote, CalFuck, so don’t get all butt hurt. You know, you are posting like an infamous Web Avenger these days. You just post your own shit and if I’m not talking to you: do not talk to me. Got that?

  51. Michael said, on September 8, 2010 at 11:01 pm

You posted again well after that, leaving Ross out. I’m fed up with the Fat Panda bullshit, the “my boy” crap, the rest it. There were a LOT of poor ABs tonight, three from Posey, BTW.

  52. TedSpe said, on September 8, 2010 at 11:43 pm

Cal, if you’re going to be such an asshole, at least try to be funnier. Worthless tangating is just dull and annoying

  53. zumarust said, on September 8, 2010 at 11:59 pm

      I am too, clearly, but…

    • TedSpe said, on September 9, 2010 at 12:24 am

      Goodnight again, gentlemen (?)

  54. zumarust said, on September 9, 2010 at 12:38 am

Tomorrow’s another day. Actually, today’s another day, I should say.

  55. Unca Chuck said, on September 9, 2010 at 8:11 am

Shit, Zito is the Steve DeBerg of the starting rotation. Just enough to lose.

Like he gets his groove back once he doesn’t have to protect a lead.

Who knows? Bubbles pitched well enough, but the guysjust can’t seem to hit against any of the Hudson brothers . . .
