A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Waiting Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 6, 2010

Three days without any giants baseball? THIS is freaking torture! At least when the regular season ends and we’re out of it I can psychologically ease my way into a Winter of pain and regret. But this waiting three days thing is almost worse……

Well, at least there is some baseball today so I’ll give you my “Can’t-lose-bet-both-lungs-and-the-mortgage” bets o’ the day. here they are:

The Yankees to beat the Twins. I hate to take the -145 on the Yanks but I’ve been taking all year about Liriano’s innings catching up with him (in 2007 he went 76 inn, in 2008 he went 136.2 inn and this year he’s up to 191.2) and his last 3 appearances were pretty dismal. So, I’m taking the Yanks to win but I’m taking the adjusted run line (-1.5 runs) since it’s at +110. Liriano had a good year for sure. But he’s on fumes right now. Yanks 6 Minnesota 2….

Next lock…..actually that’s my only lock. I’m putting a few bucks on Cincy to beat Philly since I don’t think Philly is that good and +190 looks real, REAL nice especially if I need that win to make up for my Yankee loss (should I be wrong about Liriano fading here down the stretch)……..

Texas vs Tampa: tiny bet. Maybe a little on the under (7)……

If we got to the WS, I’d rather it be against the Yanks. Always wanted a rematch.

I’d rather it be against The Little Sisters Of The Poor…

    • snarkk said, on October 6, 2010 at 8:03 pm

Agreed. If I had to pick a WS opponent, it would be the Yanks. So that SF could pile drive a stake through their collective black heart and avenge ’62…

      • DJLoo said, on October 6, 2010 at 8:15 pm

Can you really “avenge” a loss half a century later?
        I don’t think so.

Plus even the most obdurate Bonehead hater has to figure he can out manage Rondo Hatton..

Avenging has no statute of limitations…

I think Retardenhire just lost the series.

Yeah, he’s been bad on flyballs. Doesn’t seem to judge them well.

As Maine goes, so goes the nation. (Is it Virginia now? Missouri? WTF knows.) As Mauer goes, so go the Twinkies.

If liriano is the ace and this is the bp, and they’re at hm, the twins are in trouble. But everyone knew that. Hold that -1.5 and we’re all good, dumping the winnings on the giants, just not sure which game yet….

  8. DJLoo said, on October 6, 2010 at 8:25 pm

Yanks have Boone Logan. The Braves once had Boone & Logan.

  9. PawlieKokonuts said, on October 6, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Boone & Logan, Attorneys at Law, Chiropractors, and Funeral Directors [it’s a small town]

    • DJLoo said, on October 6, 2010 at 8:35 pm

As you may know, Pawlie, the Green Bay Packers, in the late ’70’s/early ’80’s actually had starting offensive lineman (side by side) named Gofourth & Koncar (and it was pronounced “conquer”)…

      Boone and Crockett?…

Ha! I did not. Very funny. (I hope Joe Montana is not related to Hannah!)

No, but my sister always called Joe Montanalow for his resemblance to Barry Manilow.

Loo, remember Andy Robustelli? Went to my church in Stamford when I was a kid. We played ball with his boys. Great guy. Truly loved, still, back home.

I remember Andy Robustelli—used to get my car tuned up at his line of shops…

Damn right that SFGate playoff history article was a buzzkill. I forgot we had a 5-0 lead at one point in Game 6. Fuck that was painful. I was at a Halloween party in Newport Beach surrounded by Angel fans when all that went down. I was at Game 7 the next day.

    • zumarust said, on October 6, 2010 at 9:12 pm

I’ll never forget the feeling I had when Dunston hit his homerun in that game. I thought: “We’re actually going to win the World Series.” Ah, well. It makes me appreciate even more what the 49ers accomplished. Winning all friggin’ 5 Super Bowls they were in. That’s pretty darn amazing.

  15. San Dog said, on October 6, 2010 at 9:12 pm

I mean, I knew we had a good lead, but 5-0 in the 7th and it got away??? I gotta admit I was having some Russ Ortiz flashbacks when Bochy pulled Sanchez on Sunday.

    • zumarust said, on October 6, 2010 at 9:16 pm

I wonder how many toothpicks Dusty chewed through today.

  16. San Dog said, on October 6, 2010 at 9:18 pm

I remember thinking the exact same thing, Zum. And once they lost Game 6 in that fashion I knew there was no way in hell they’d come off the mat to win Game 7.
Nice point about the Niners. 5-0 in the big game is damn impressive.

Funny. Jokingly I just threw a curse laden tirade, in jest of course, about how impatient I am for tomorrow’s game.
And Flav’s filter, God bless him, would absolutely not allow it to post.
Huh. You’d think I mentioned a town in Oregon. What…”bends” like a female acrobat from Singapore.

  18. TedSpe said, on October 6, 2010 at 9:25 pm

Oh. And that rude, mysoginistic, racially insensitive post got through.
    Weird filter.
    Goodnight, gentlmen (question mark)

That’s too bad. Even with 4 outs, Twins still can’t touch Rivera. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone so consistently unhiittable since Gibson 1.12 ERA year with the higher mound.

I was (intermittently) following the Reds/Phillies game on mlb gamecast at work today. When my kid got home from school and called, I told him he had a chance to catch the 9th inning. Later, before I saw the highlights, he described the final play, with Ruiz jumping out to field the dribbler and finding the bat in the way. The kid did a great job describing the play. He was right — there was no way Ruiz was going to let that weird, accidental bunt turn into a hit. I look forward to many Giants hits and HRs against Halladay if the two teams meet later this month. But for a while this evening I had to marvel at what those Philly players, the pitcher and catcher, accomplished this afternoon. Great baseball.
