A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Anyone think this is ending in 4 games?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 11, 2010

Torture doesn’t end before it’s time, right? Ending this in four games would be….well, I’m not going to say anything about it being easy, that got me in trouble last time. It would be an “ironic surprise”. How about that? I’ve got no idea what happens tonight. The smart money would say the Braves are emotionally crippled after last night’s game and to bet the Giants hard on the win. But the smart money doesn’t know torture the way we know torture…. Anyway, it looks like a low scoring game so I took the over (7) cause the under looked too, well, *easy*.

I left the last  thread up instead of deleting a bunch of posts but please don’t bring that onto this thread……..

Cody Ross has to be having the time of his life right now. Listening to him talk about “our pitching”, and swelling with pride— I can dig that. You catch up quick on this team when u play with these guys….

And nice work by the Giants too console Brooks Conrad before the game..ie Burrell,of course he was probably telling him that all the Giants wanted to vote you an extra playoff share.

  37. stixwiz said, on October 11, 2010 at 7:54 pm

Sarah Bernhardt’s torture chamber with those two walks and then his Sherman’s march through Georgia. No drama like Wilson’s. Wonder what they will do with all those foam tommyhawks now. At least Cox goes out in style, done in by the best pitching staff in baseball and a little picker-upper labeled CODE-E.

Good team effort vs a tough and unyielding foe. Bumgarner was a match for Lowedown. Casilla was nails. Lopez loogied his man…and all so typical of this team, they scored just barely enough runs to win.

So who’s afraid of the Beast from the East? Nastiest fans in baseball. The rooters in the city of Brotherly Love make even those moaning, chopping Georgians seem almost civilized. Won’t faze Buster a bit. After facing the best that Atlanta could offer in terms of mound magic, the Halladay, Oswalt, Hamels matchup vs Timmy, Drrrty and The Horse doesn’t look too daunting. It will be a matter of remaining patient at the plate and working those counts, because beyond their setup man and closer that team does not have a BP anywhere near as tough as those of the Padres and Braves.

Preseason punditry discounted San Francisco, some even picking us to finish fourth. Many a doomer on the Splash had little but bad words to say about this team. But while hard-hitting teams like the Twins and Reds went down hard and fast, San Francisco’s Halloween Machine has rode four aces and an indomitable bullpen into the National League Championship Series.

Man and don’t it feel GOOD.

First NLCS game isn’t till Saturday. Let’s talk rosters….NO Whitey.

    • zumarust said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:00 pm

Unbelievable that the first game isn’t until Saturday. That’s kind of a joke.

  39. PawlieKokonuts said, on October 11, 2010 at 7:58 pm

I came back from Philly today. The Inquirer smugly talked of the Phils probably salivating at the chance to take on either the Braves or the Giants. Well, we’re drooling.

    • zumarust said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:03 pm

I hope the Phils get caught up their own hype, and they get to thinking all they’ve got to do his throw their gloves out on the field and they win.

  40. Kevin said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:04 pm

Thanks Mike, just sent the address to you. Go Giants, this is doable

    • zumarust said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:05 pm

I’ve always felt the role-model of this Giants team is the ’88 Dodgers. No one thought the ’88 Dodgers would do what they did.

    • Michael said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:11 pm

Got it, I’ll send the tracking # when it goes out, you’ll have it for the NLCS. It’s complete except for monitor, speakers. Do you need a wireless adapter?

  41. Kevin said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:07 pm

Well the next series is not going to be any easier than this one. In fact be prepared to sit on the edge of chair/couch/recliner cause you are not going to get to just sit back and relax!!

Hey, Kev, congrats on winning your new computer from Twin. Any chance you could donate it to the Niners. Those dumb yahoos don’t even know what “yahoo” is. No wonder we’re 0-5.

  42. stixwiz said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Congrats, Kevin. And yes, by now we all have come a fully firm understanding that Giants Baseball = TORTURE. Philly is all smug and cocky, strutting around like so many buff orpington roosters ontoppa their dungheap city. Hope they stay that way too ~ at least till they face the Freak.

    • PawlieKokonuts said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:24 pm

I like their city OK; it’s rough and tumble; very tough accent. The blue-collar locals really do mumble and sound like Stallone. Yo, Halladay. Yo, Halladay. Here’s your no-hitter right heah.

Giant Strides have been made this season. It’s all good. It’s all good.

  51. alleykat said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:44 pm

Real nice gesture by the Giants honoring Bobby Cox after the game.Class act that didn’t go unnoticed by Cox either.Love him or hate him is career was remarkable.14 Straight Division titles, can anyone really fathom how hard that is to accomplish?Enjoy your retirement Bobby. You and Earl Weaver were two of the best IMHO.

    • DJLoo said, on October 11, 2010 at 8:50 pm

Nevertheless, with only 1 WS title to show for Maddox-Glavine-Smoltz, he’s something of a failure in many people’s eyes. That 14 straight might’ve been scissored in the strike year. They were 6 back at the time.

      • James said, on October 11, 2010 at 9:31 pm

Just some bad rolls of the dice. What’s the special managerial skill required to win a WS? It doesn’t exist.

      • Michael said, on October 11, 2010 at 10:13 pm

Strategical maneuverings are completely overrated-they all have the same book. Just keeping the entire team playing for you from Game 1 through the end of the season is what seperates the best from the others. As Lowe said of Cox-he always has their backs. The same can be said of Bochy.

  52. Michael said, on October 11, 2010 at 9:03 pm

That breaker to Infante in the 9th was the pitch of the game, maybe the season.

  53. max808 said, on October 11, 2010 at 9:47 pm

So many HUGE pitches throughout the series. I think back to the 3rd inning, with 2 on, no outs. Bum is one cool redneck.

The G’s will beat the phillies because…

While they split six games — each taking two out of three at home — the Giants batted .290 against the Phillies and outhomered them, 8-3, over the six games.

Furthermore, the Giants’ oft-dismissed offense fared much better against the Philadelphia Threedom than the Phillies’ heralded lineup did against the Giants’ trio. In four starts against San Francisco, H20 went 1-2 with a 6.12 ERA, allowing 32 hits over 25 innings with 27 strikeouts. But the Giants’ trio was much more effective against the Phillies’ vaunted offense, going 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA over four starts, allowing only 15 hits over 27 1/3 innings while striking out 28.

    • zumarust said, on October 11, 2010 at 11:13 pm

The Phils never look that comfortable playing at AT&T. If the Giants can find a way to win one of the games at Philly, especially one of the first two, they can put a lot of pressure on the Phils, who may get caught looking past the Giants to the World Series. IF the Giants’ bats can wake up out of their funk, all the better is the Giants’ chances.

  60. zumarust said, on October 11, 2010 at 11:05 pm

The MLB network did a lot of coverage of the Giants after the game. They really gave the Giants their due tonight. It was cool to see.

Giants led the NL in road home runs. As I posted before-that could be the most significant change of all. They can now slug with the big boys like Philly in their own parks..

  63. Michael said, on October 12, 2010 at 12:24 am

Froze the frame on Bochy popping a pill in the dugout when Wilson was in. It was defintely a 2 MG Lorazepam, a strong dosage, enough to induce a (false) sense of well being for up to 12 hours…

  64. alleykat said, on October 12, 2010 at 12:41 am

They can definitely hang with the Phillies in the power numbers.Do you all realize that the Giants only hit 4 fewer HR’s then the the Phils this year? Think about that for a second and realize where the Giants play half their games and where the Phils play half their games.I’m still amazed….
