One More Day of East Coast Bluster
I really haven’t read much on this series, a little of what you guys post here and some ESPN “analysis”– it’s pointless, the national media guys don’t know anything about this team. They act like they do, they wear snappy suits and talk with great affection in their voice. Hell, they’re on tv, they’re supposed to know what they’re talkin’ bout, right?
Idiots…..
Filly may indeed win this series and it might not go the distance. But all the games are going to be competitive, each game could easily come down to a single hit or one mistake by the other team. If that’s the case then how the hell does that make Filly this guaranteed, bet-both-lungs-and-the-mortgage LOCK? If you knew in advance that the horse race you were betting on was coming down to a head bob at the wire you certainly wouldn’t dump your $ on the 1-5 favorite (unless you’re Dennis 🙂 )
The Giants couldn’t be in a better spot— very little pressure on this team the rest of the way. They’re SUPPOSED to lose, right? But what happens when they don’t? Play loose, play TOGETHER, and good things will happen this series….
In case any of you have missed it, Michael is offering up another prize by way of the contest that you can read about directly to the right of this page……
I can’t really focus on the Phillies any more. I’ve spent a bunch of time looking at their roster and their numbers, overall and against the Giants. I’m ready for the games. I agree with BF, the Giants can win this series. They may not, but it’s going to be fun. What else do you need to know to get ready two watch? So now I’m turning back to the Giants and considering this amazing team. My question of the day: Is Pablo’s PS basically done (“weight till nex year”) or will he get a chance to redeem himself vs. Philly?
xoot, I was over on the Splash and saw the one post from soph and your comeback. I was wondering has anyone else thought the soph was Henry or his buddy baggs? I noticed soph didn’t really post when Susan or Shea were posting and even now the posts are minimal (the boys might have better/more things to do right now).
Just wondering if anyone else thought that.
Way to go Flav, the team we love to ignore is at our door.
I just don’t understand that there are no ratings on the west coast that matter.
Opps, that there is no belove left for a team that won 92 (i nailed that) when BB prospectus had them at 81 behind the Dodgers and ahead of the Dagos @ 74 wins
So much for how everyone else sees this team.
We know this team has TOGETHER and the big bopper in the sky says:
Hello Baby, yeah, this is the Big Bopper speaking,
Ha, Ha, you sweet thing,
Do I what? Will I what? Oh, baby, you know what I like…
Go Giants, anyway but loose, mano y mano
“They act like they do, they wear snappy suits and talk with great affection in their voice”
Flav, I’m not sure why (maybe it’s the snappy suits), but I love that line.
About the Giants,”Carlos Santana said it best:”You win with collective intangibles.”
Giants 3rd base coach Tim Flannery believes that.”You get tired of hearing all the things you can’t do, and we’ve heard that all season, this guy is too slow, that guy too old, this guy might be too big, that starting pitcher might be too small. But when everything is brought together,”the collective intangibles”–the gift each person brings to the clubhouse in attitude and spirit and knowing what his role is–together,it all works very well.”
We all believe in all of us, in any situation,to get something done. That team concept is as simple as the Black and Orange lettering on the last words Giants players see as they exit their home clubhouse: 25 guys, ONE COMMON GOAL…..WIN TODAY
Well, saturday . . .
The guy who did the Viideo, Don’t stop Believin. Ashkon was on KNBR this morning, what a fan!! They are trying to get him to come in on Tuesday morning and do a live version of the song. What a great video. whenever I get bored with reading and watching ESPN or MLB, I turn on that video. The dude has 500,000 hits on it!!
Kevin – Yeah, I find myself watching it at least once a day – it’s just so much fun, and feels like the truth! This could be the season!!!
How can you not believe after watching that, Makes the wait for Saturday “Torture” though!!
I think ECoasters basically stopped thinking about SF before all the additions to the team. Sure they are familiar with Posey, but everyone else doesn’t have the all star cache of Rollins, Utley, Victorino (thx Charlie) and Howard. So in their minds SF is the team that still needs a Prince Fielder or two to score runs, and is a collection of discards (Ross, Huff, Burrell, Torres) and disappointments (Rowand, Rent, Pablo) that struggled to hold off the one man show Padres.
I have a hard time thinking Philly will have games handed to them like the bumbling Reds did. They will have to go out and beat the Giants pitching. If SF can get a split there, I think they will be in good shape. Should Tim out duel Halladay (who did lose what, 8 games this year), fucking look out….by the time Phillies get back home, they might not have any more baseball to play.
Yeah, the talking head aspect of this is boring at best. How much of the same blah blah blah can you watch?
That being said, the wait is interminable. Anyone got tix for any of these games? I was on the waiting list, but got my rejection email yesterday…
Yeah, Willie, I keep coming back to the 3 games at home as well. Get one in their band box, and then shut them down here, bingo, Giants in 5.
If it goes back to Philly, it’ll be real tough . . .
Then of course, after the Giants win, the Philllies will complain about the 2-3-2 format, and how it gives the away team an advantage.
Bud, being the low-life slug that he is, will adopt the basketball 2-2-2-1 format.
500,000 hits for that song? It was at like 1100 last time I watched it like 3 days ago……
It was at 318 when I first watched. Dude was on with Radnich last night during his 6:45 sports segment. Very high-spirited and ebullient guy. He’ll be at the home stand and I’m sure he’ll get some more airtime. His video will have gone “super-viral” by then.
And I never settle for anything less than 3/5 I’ll have you know. Even I have limits.
About the only thing I’ve seen this week on BSPN was some guy saying the Giants couldn’t afford to start Fontenot over Panda.
IF Panda wasn’t so shaky defensively lately, I might agree. But I’d think Panda goes against Halladay and Font vs Hamels . . .
Panda’s last shot at playing in the postseason
Breaking news: This kinda sucks..The KC Royals acquired SP Kevin Pucetas from the Giants to complete the deal for OF Gimp Guillen made in early Aug.
Way to much value for what we received.
Cry in 4 years if Pucetas has actually done something, AK.
kat, is that the PTBNL end of the deal?
We got exactly one win from guillen out of the 43 he played for us. Considering we won the division on the final day of the season, I’m fine giving up a pitcher we’re never going to use for that one win guillen delivered to us (that gm he had 6 rbis, can’t remember who we played that day)
Brew crew?
Shit Flav…If Cuzzi doesn’t fuck up the Ishi call,we don’t even need the Gimpster.
I just tried to get onto Stubhub and there site is having technical difficulties!! Gee I wonder why??
$118 for SRO . . .
$130.00 for nosebleed seats.
Sorry, not gonna do it. . .
Yeah. Brewers. I was at that game. 9-2, Pat the Bat clubbed a 3 run moonshot, too. Great game…
Well, then Guillen wasn’t needed for that one either. (grin)
OK, I am now ready for this game…the next 24 hours are going to be pure suffering or should I say torture?
If we pull out a crazy win in the first game like 1-0 or 2-1 with some crazy bloop hit in the 9th and BWilson shutting them down, the Giants will have them where they want him in Game 2 with Jonathan Sanchez.
Imagine the panic setting in to Fillie Land when Sanchez starts setting down left-handed batter after left-handed batter. We will score at least 4 runs off Oswalt…book it Dennis! Giants up 2-0 heading to SF, ESPN will have a complete hissy fit.
MLB network is so much better and Millar and Byrnes have been very pro-Giant…
Bit over 30 hours till gametime. To repeat myself ~ Fillies need to sweep at home or they are in deep-deep doo-doo. This feat must be accomplished vs the Freak and Drrrrty. Hats off to them if they can pull that one off. Splitsville looks to be a probability factor ~ more than 50% likely.
Attitude of national sports media makes this one into a David and Goliath situation. And we all know how that battle went.
From Bruce Jenkins:
What we have this week for the Giants, with the NLCS beginning Saturday against the Phillies, is a team for all tastes. Teenage girls (and I’ve heard these discussions) are debating who’s hotter, Buster Posey or Tim Lincecum. The two rock stars represent the ultimate contrast in background, lifestyle and appearance, so it makes for quite a discussion.

Not too concerned about Pucetas. One and two years ago he looked like a comer. This season he had definite problems at AAA. He might disengage himself from the mire, but it could only be for a team like Kansas City which has the time to wait it out as, and if, he recovers his previous momentum. Of the Fresno hurlers Henry Sosa still has the better upside, even though his AAA season was not scintillatingly sterling either.
OK, who is going to one of the home games??? Or better if you are going to be Philly…
I have the perfect sign for one of you to make and hold up…
Picture of Brian Black Beard Wilson on the back of Chase Utley with crop in hand with the Slogan, “Ride them Fillies!”
Instant national celebrity whoever makes that…
The guy who writes the McCovey Chronicles is having a get together at the Public House at AT&T park on for Sundays game if anyone is interested
This thread is getting a little weird. Who’s hotter? Buster or Timmy? Brian Wilson whipping Utley with a riding crop?
Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but…
Hey, my daughter started watching games cause she thinks Timmy is cute, wants to go to games next year!!
4 days is a long time between games, Ted . . .
The natives are getting restless . . .
Yeah. It’s like being trapped in a mine.
Wait a minute…
Does anyone think Romo gets used this series or gets used for the rest of the year??
Romo should not get near the 8th or a one run lead with one or more men on. I wouldn’t risk a redux of that stretch in the Spring where he gave up 3 dingers in a string of 3 close games including that Manny gift, to lose them all. I’d go with Casilla, too, until/unless he F’s up…
I see no reason why our LOOGY couldn’t be extended an extra batter or two. Given the Phils being left-hand heavy, let Lopez set it up for Wilson.
I don’t think Boch would hesitate to go to Romo but it would probably be the 7th. I think Casilla might have locked down the 8th inning gig…..
Because he only had one big game hardly means he didn’t play a part in other wins. Yeah, and losses. There are dozens of games a year where no player can be said to have won or lost it. So we gave up the next Sadowski for Guillen…
Speaking of the Pen, Affeldt has pretty much been AWOL since mid September. Lopez will do his thing for sure, but maybe Affeldt will get a shot or two in this series with all the lefties for Philly…
Against Lopez, Phillies batters are hitting just .148 with a .493 OPS. Against Affeldt, the Phillies are hitting a robust .281 with a .958 OPS.
Let Affeldt be the designated barber in charge of trimming beards for the pen.
Torres and Huff were top Giants in WAR ( Wins Above Replacement) at 6 and 5.7 respectively. Guillen and Ross were both .2. Others:
Buster 3.9
Uribe 3.2
Burrell 2.7
Sanchez 2.7
Sandoval 1.9
A gem from the E(ast)SPN…Kieth Law
“The silver lining for Phillies fans is that Bochy is not a great tactical manager, both in recognizing platoon value and in managing his ‘pen”
I thought that was the only thing he was good at….. Obviously he doesn’t know about the Donnie baseball two trips to the mound call….
I gotta stop reading the major sports news sites… its hard to contain the rage after reading the over the top blathering about a team they hardly know anything about….
ESPN is hopeless. They have a SportsCenter from LA to supposedly cater to the West Coast, then lead it with the same breathless east coast Yankee and RSox coverage…
Reminder on the Specs, I want about 10 more contestants!

ok, I told my kid up at PUC to watch that vidieo
and i hate thinking any days off is a bad thing, but |I know to few days off often are.
It is noon thirty where youare and I am up for a fight.
Giants over Philadelphia in 6 just after the blow out in SF during game 5
Really? no reason to wait for the WS and run this series into 7
just do it
what’s the o/u for innings pitched for tim, sanchez and cain? I’m going with 7-2/3 (low scoring, runner on, brings in wilson for 4), 7 (pitches well, pitch count up), 7-1/3 (no idea).
Tick Muthufucking Tock.
I may have to resort to watching the ALCS tonight.
Heaven forbid
Any other time, I’d be up for ABY, anybody but the Yankess, to win the AL Pennant. Texas would certainly fit the bill, and yeah, I wouldn’t even mind seeing Bengielena get in it for old times sake. But, with SF having the possibility of a WS berth, I’m hopin’ the Yanks take it, if the Giants get in. Giants and Yanks WS would be a dream matchup, with Giants holding the home field. I’m tryin’ to go with the game by game, day by day, mindset, but it’s friggin hard to do…
Trying watching and/or listening to some of Bochy’s old interviews. That will put your mindset back into game by game and day by day mode. And that’s only if your loaded up on Adderall.
Timmy and Bochy press conf. in 10 min.

Carney L’s headed to Colo to be batting coach. Think he’ll share much info on Giants hitters with his new team? I guess this stuff is inevitable (noncompete contracts are almost illegal in Calif.). But somehow I sense that Carney will work real hard to screw the Giants, if he gets the chance.
Rowand’s on the NLCS roster. That’s the big news?
There goes hopes for a speed guy…
Maybe he’ll run into the fence a few times, and they’ll get Ford in . . .
“Aaron, see if you can catch this . . .”
What’s Carney going to tell the Rocks they don’t know about Giants hitters? That they swing at a lot of crap? Besides, a handful of the Giants aren’t even back next year…
Not high on my list of shit to worry about, Zoot . . .
Landsdorf will probably fuck THEM all up by trying to get them to go opposite field all day . . .
Really hard to leave Rowand off against Philly.
Michael, sent you my #’s.
Over on SI.com, out of 11 writers, all picked the Phillies and only one picked the Rangers. I guess Texas fans are feeling some East Coast bias as well.
Also, Heyman ranks the 4 LCS teams in various categories: Giants #2 starting pitching (Phillies #1, though he says “A case could be made for the Giants at No. 1.”); #1 relief pitching; #4 offense; #4 defense; #4 intangibles.
Just trying to do my part here to kill the time.
If Giants don’t get in, I’d be happy to see Bengie get a shot. Otherwise, I want the big city lights and all the tacky glitz and glamour that comes with it. I think anyone who was watching in 62 has to have always wanted another shot. 48 yrs is long enough.
I’ll be pulling for the Rangers over the Yankees. The Yankee fans need some humble pie.
I will be rooting for the Rangers too, but I would like the Giants to be the ones giving the Yankees fans that humble pie…..
Also I am afraid a Giants Rangers series will be like the White Sox Houston one that nobody cared about…..
was not impressed with carney’s work. the last thing you can do is bitch about the home ballpark. nothing to get you comfortable and confident like having the hitting coach complain that it’s unfair.
Test ……
Chuck, you didn’t try to post the name of a certain city in Oregon did you?
WEel. let me BEND over and see.
I’;m really trying to change my pic .. .
Didn’t think it mattered before the Braves series to have Rohand, but I think now it is a mistake to spend a roster spot on him. After seeing a 5 gamer where we could have used more speed on the bags, in a 7 game series, it’s very likely the Giants lack of a speed guy is going to reduce their late inning base running flexibility several times. Rohand could advise on local CBank Park knowledge, etc. while being OFF the roster. Bonehead didn’t bring him in even once for D in the Braves series, as I remember. Velez can PR and score like a burner, plus he is just as or more likely to get a hit/home run as Rohand. Plus, Velez is a switch hitter, and his speed could get him an infield hit, where Rohand’s cannot. Maybe Rohand will hit a PH jack, who knows? I hope I’m proved wrong, but I think this move is a bad idea…
Now have 15 for the contest. As before, if there is a tie between a previous winner and a new winnner, it will go to the newbie. In that case I’ll send a Best Buy gift certificate to the previous winner. Tomorrow at noon is the deadline if you’d still like to enter.
If ever there was an over-hyped high noon game one of any series my bet is on the freak. The pitcher in long haired clothing. One-nil to get-er-done. 6’6 vs ‘fuck-you-hit-this’ none other than cy’s best friend.
Giants eat those cheese steaks in 6
As promised, I will not watch a Giants game at my mistress’s house until the Giants are 3 up.
go Giants!
Did you just get out of a Chilean copper mine?….
Baseball is a hummingbird on cocaine
and were just fans trying to catch it
with a lasso made out of dental floss
With one hand while drinking a pint of Guinness in the other…
Just me and pygmy pony, over by the dental floss bush . . .
After only watching one NYY game this year vs. the Rays, I am sure looking forward to Bingie stealing a base, throwing out a runner and blowing kisses to the fans while the Yanks strut around like Mr. Moneybags headed over to Park Place.
fuck you Girardi
Timmy might be small, but he is such a huge competitor. I think he has a better chance of shutting down the Phillies with Halladay pitching than he would if Blanton were. He’s the kinda guy that says, “Give me your best and I’ll show you who’s better.” And the weather is in his favor with it being 51 degrees at game time. Sounds like home to me. I really think all they need to do is scratch out one run and the Giants take tomorrow’s game. If they do that, the pressure on the Phillies sky-rockets and they’ll be striking out all over the place against Dirty on Sun.
I bet a few bucks on Molina to hit the first HR tonight– 25-1 looked good. Also have some dough on Marcus Thames at 18-1 and a Yankees win/under parlay…..
If they’ve got a prop bet on Bengie being the first to hit the sandwich plate at the spread after the game, I’ll go a few bucks on that…
Waiting for this first game is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not wait for the first game. But then one suffers from not waiting for the first game. Therefore, to wait for the first game is to suffer; not to wait for the first game is to suffer; to suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to wait for the first game. To be happy, then, is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy, one must wait for the first game or wait for the first game to suffer or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you’re getting this down.
“When there’s comfort in pleasure, and pleasure in pain…”
Julia Fordham, “Lock and Key”, Porcelain (album).
Shit, just checked box score from iPhone and Molina isn’t starting. I coulda sworn I heard he was in the LU tonight.
I’m confused, Professor Flav. You can get odds on someone who’s not starting? Is that in the off chance they PH?
there goes 25-1
love the way the Rangers announcers paint the Yanks as an ‘average’ team.
add the blood thirsty pseudo vampire fan-idiots and you have NY ina nutshell.
🙂
Rangers pounce on the Yanks fast.Josh Hamilton 3 run HR to the tune of the Natural, nice touch.
Fox is having some kind of dispute with Cablevision which means about 3 million people here (including me) get blacked out tomorrow if they don’t resolve it.
That is fucking outrageous. They’ll resolve it. But these god damned prima donna networks and cable companies holding out to the last minute suck. They really do not deserve the money they’re making. Sports has gone to hell.
Ted: they offer up odds on who they thunk will start and I received a text from fanball earlier today saying he was starting so I don’t know WTF happened. Stupid-ass Hamilton just fucked my interest in this gm in the first inning. Bye bye first hr bet and bye bye yanks winning to the under…..
So if Molina doesn’t start, does that make the bet obsolete or does it still stand? I mean, like you said, Hamilton just ficked it up anyway but what I mean is, did you still *have* a bet when they decided to strat Treanor?
and bye bye CC as much as I love him
Yankees suck
going downstairs to watch the game on the plasma
see y’all saturn day
go Giants
Ted: no, it’s a future bet. Once u place the bet the dough is gone: either that or it’s coming back to you at 25-1 baby! In theory he could have PH the hr but as you said, the bet is over thanks to Hamilton
The “Double Result” of Giants score first and win the game at +350 looks enticing.
okay. thanks
I’ve been told that the reason all these hideous bright red uniforms and hats have appeared in recent years (Braves, D-Backs, Rangers, etc.) is because they are big sellers to gang members.
Sob. sob. Bitch. Moan. Poor Evil Empire is now down to the deRangers by 5-0. I wonder if any of those know it all Eastcoast prognosticators are nearing the ledge.
Announcer sounds like Bill Walton
Bochy would’ve won 10 NCAA’s with the talent Wooden had.
There goes your 18/1 shot.
I have no great love for the Bush Progeny Rangers From Redneckland, but, hey, always nice to see the Skanks lose.
Ranger baseball: TORTURE
The curse of the dreaded 5-0 lead in the 7th strikes again…
Pawlie, Might have spoken to quickly there.Rangers bullpen sure doesn’t match ares.
what’s the Tex-Mex word for torture? Yanqui go home.
Tortura?
