Houston, we do NOT have a problem…
I thought we played a pretty good game last night. After the 2nd inning they got ONE run off us. Our bullpen was amazing. We hit the same number of bombs that they did, the difference in the game is that they had 2 guys on for one of them. We kept coming at them all night, with a run in the 7th and the 8th. It just wasn’t quite enough. Big deal.
Pat Burrell has 8 strikeouts in 9 World Series at bats. That has to be a record, right? He’s fairly balanced in most of those swing throughs so it’s not like he’s being fooled. He’s re-incarnated the ghost of Rajai Davis sans the speed. But the fact is, and we know this, Burrell is going to keep playing because that’s what Bochy does and it’s not like he has a sure-fire alternative to replace him. Hopefully though, we’ve seen the last of Panda. I think we might see Ishikawa at first with Huff DH’ing (although even that seems like a stretch since Bochy sees Ishi as invaluable as our most important PH). So I don’t know what today looks like, maybe the same LU……..
Texas CANNOT win 2 straight in our park. Win one of the next two, we are all good………
Wow
Beautiful shut down performance by the WHOLE TEAM!!!!
Yup. A 2010 world series win will be processed and experienced in a different way than 2005….2000…1990….. giants nation is milling about, gathering…..plotting an explosion the baseball world has never seen….
One run tomorrow and I believe that Kat nails down the contest. SanDog has 29 but he would get the certificate if he won.
What a great feeling to be up 3-1 with Timmy and Cain locked and loaded. Can’t say enough about Bum.
Tentative final trick-or-treater count: 74 (Yes, I counted—I’m weird that way)
Number of kids who puked in my front yard: 1
I’m on the road through Wednesday–probably w/o internet—so no posts from me. Don’t worry though—I’ll be around.
“Whenever they’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Whenever they’s an ump ringin’ up a guy, I’ll be there… I’ll be in the way Tim yells when he’s mad an’-I’ll be in the way Huff laughs when he’s dialed in an’ he knows a fat fastball is coming. An’ when you Flappers raise the flag for the first World Series win in SF Giants history-why, I’ll be there.”
I gotta tell ya, that shot by Huff was impressive, I was on the edge of my seat for the rest of the game. But I felt like this is it we’re gonna win!!
I was shocked at how far that went. On replay, that sucka kept goin and goin way outta there. Thong Power!…
I finally relaxed a bit when that ball didn’t bounce over the fence, and it wasn’t a ground rule double, so the run scored.
Like TF said, bounces are going our way.
Bum for POTG. And… there are lots of runners up.
Bum is 4th youngest pitcher to win a WS game, ever. 4 months ago he was pitchin a fit in Fresno and gettin’ tossed after Velez dropped a can o’ corn. Tonite, he’s flippin the bird at Dubya and Nolan Ryan. Gotta luv it…
The D lineup really came through with the D, overall. Some nice catches by Ross out in leftfield in particular.
Another terrific throw-out by Posey, too.
Candidates for series MVP are still legion: Rent, Huff, Torres, Fruckie, Tim if he closes it tomorrow, even Buster or Uribe still have a shot…
Gotta love Buster, too. Catches his second shutout, hits a big fly, throws out Hamilton…and you just know the kid is dead on his feet. I get a whole lot of happy thinking about the future with Mad Bum & Buster… 😀
HALLOWEEN MACHINE. YES!
Do you believe it now?
Lisa will be here soon, i’m charging up the chair for the planned parade. A couple of the wheelchair vets will spend the evening tonight, we’ll watch the game again. Night all…
Remember, you can’t kill the bogeyman but Bochy can put ’em in our starting lineup and he’d go 3 for 4 with a HR and 3 RBI. “Blockhead” is our MVP.
Bochy has become the premier postseason manager of the last several years at least. A man whose time has come and seized it.
Thirty years ago a California governor running for the Republican presidential nomination was campaigning in Texas and quipped about “beating the bushes.” It sure happened tonight. By the time the 8th inning rolled along there were some mighty long faces around that bunch.
What a trick! What a treat! Halloween Machine hit fifth gear tonight with overdrive fully engaged. And i got to WATCH it at a buddy’s place. He’s a bit of a Giants fan ~ his second favorite to homestate Twins. Brought along some cuttlefish flavored chips, dried apricots, dried bananas and an assortment of teas. He’s on pisstesting and on too many PTSD meds supplied by the VA for any beer or such. So we did what we did.
Wearing a 1987 Giants Tee shirt and a black cap with orange SF fading away purchased at a shop in The City in ’89, it was my first wearing of the colors this year as my “Halloween costume”.
First time watching Bumgarner in action. Surely his finest to date. Kid got in the record books in a big way as the 4th youngest W.S. winner ever. Watched that face ~ those hooded eyes under the big brows ~ the long face ~the lugubrious expression. THEN IT HIT ME. Kid has lacked for a decent nickname amidst this incredible cast of characters.
THE UNDERTAKER.
Picture the main elements of next year’s rotation ~ all well on the sunny side of 30: The Freak; The Horse; Drrrrrty Sanchez and The Undertaker. Imagine you’re an NL manager facing the Giants in a four-game series. Those four characters with “fear the beard” Sarah Bernhardt as the coup de grace. Unless there are unforeseen injuries or some other nastiness, we are looking at those five pitchers, plus a rifle-armed, slugging, .300 hitting primo game-caller behind the plate.
We are looking at the opening act of a DYNASTY. Nice that it could happen in front of Nolan Ryan, all four primary Bushes and most of the movers and shakers in the City of Dallas as the Halloween Machine showed the world one serious Series crescendo on Halloween.
I know MadBum made the game, but for POTG, Franchez did so much could you do a “Co-POTG”? Freddie was all over everything.
He’d be 5th behind Bum, Rent, Huff, and Torres…
Twin, then we need co-co-co-co players of the game, because there were so many of them.
We get a lead and Timmy and Wilson nail it down.
Read a nice little bio on Huff the Magic Dragon tonight by one of Yahoo’s writers. His dad shot to death trying to break up a domestic dispute when he was six. His mom buying a batting cage and a pitching machine set up behind their trailer as he was growing up in Mineral Wells. The family moving to Fort Worth when he was 16 where his idol was Nolan Ryan. With the eyes of Texas upon him, Aubrey, launched that moonshot. Besides Ryan and about 50,000 Texans, another witness was Bush ’43, whose 54′ boyhood idol was the same player i fell in love with that year at the age of ten, Willie Mays.
Life is a circle. It’s now November first here in Minnesota and in Texas. But Aubrey Huff was one key ingredient in a Halloween to remember.
Tomorrow, if I’m manager:
Torres LF
Fruckie 2B
Huff 1B
Posey C
Ross RF
Burrell DH
Uribe 3B
Rowand CF
Rent SS
20 mg. of Valium and 4 beers… still can’t sleep…
Craig/Flap choice of POTG should be difficult. Lot’s of “co-choices”. Everybody worked it, and many came up big. Mad and Fruckie and Huff for sure.
Twin: i’m fine with that L.U. as long as Bochy lets Vern and Vera’s kid pinch-run for Buster in the 9th or SOMETHING. This is one helluva team and he is (however delicately it must be put) a member of the team and should get the chance to make a cameo in the W.S. and be able to hear some wag quip “Eli’s Coming”.
ah…. not so sure about Nate, but he might be good for leading Panda through Arizona workout runs in the desert next few months. Panda is nothing but a pig all this year. He could go with no serious regrets; all personality, little forward potential beyond the initial “hey, he’s a cute trinket that first season” …

“Huff-ster!! Somebody called that!”
I did! Lol. But I called a three run shot. I’ll take that two run job though! Great win tonight!
Wonder about those posters (mostly at the Splash, but here too) who were ragging and bitching and moaning about Franchez being another wasted contract ~ for two years, even. His performance tonight at second base simply has to go down as one of the great ones in World Series history. Between him and El Torres and RentMAN fouling off pitch after pitch; that trio completely wore down Hunter. They had that big chub sweating his balls off and materially contributed to the situation where Huff the Magic Dragon got his pitch.
Too bad so many American sports fans are turned off to baseball. If they knew the game a bit and understood some of its nuances they would have been treated to one of the stellar World Series performances in the history of the game. It was a dominant team effort based on incredible pitching, sterling defense and just enough pop to make it all good. Of course it did help being a fanatical fan of the Giants, with the realization that this year is the big one; the beginning of the Dynasty, a fitting future for that organization which has won more games than any other in the history of the game.
I have absolutely nothing to add.
I’m suddenly overwhelmed with sympathy for Cubs’ fans
MVP of this WS is going to be like voting for the Pope.
We’ll just have to wait for the white smoke
(and not go “Wait! Wait! Still no decision. That’s just Timmy”)
Uh buh bye Tx. We gave to you, your chance with the over-emotional fuck JSanchez. And he gave it to you, per odds. How’s the rest of it?
We should keep JSanchez, as such an emotional fuck-up stealth move, that “they’ll never see what’s coming” in the future. It doesn’t actually matter on the very few days that he really decides to actually pitch. (Would help if he quits mouthing off to the paper journalists, who eventually write his game obituary, when he predicts his own “amazing dominance” that gets melt down to complete shit when he really throws balls, attempting to do that thing called, “pitching”.
Maybe the Giants win the World Series.
Maybe they don’t.
But one thing was made very clear this lovely Halloween evening.
The San Francisco Giants, in 2010, are the best Major League baseball team.
I emphasize…team
And in honor of this memorable win and Halloween…
Quoth the Giants…nevermore
