A superb team and a great blog await your return to full form, Twin. As the 2011 season quickens we’re gonna need your efforts to keep this ship on an even keel.

    Beau Geste, Flav.

Flav, that’s the best pic you’ve posted ever. And I’m dating myself all the way back to your first blog when you had all the naked babes. Nice going.

Twin, my thoughts are with you. Hope to see you back in the winners circle real soon.

It looks like Timmy’s GQ cover is just one of several different covers next month. Ali and some other athletes have their own covers, also. The topic is coolest athletes ever, or something like that.

    • TedSpe said, on January 28, 2011 at 9:52 am

zum, try and keep up. This is so yesterday’s news (insert gay ass smiley face)

  10. Unca Chuck said, on January 28, 2011 at 9:46 am

    Ahhhh, didin’t see yer vid, RT . . .

  11. Dirtnrocksnreno said, on January 28, 2011 at 9:46 am

In pre-op and still time for the flap? That is a first of some sort and totally fucking awesome.

    Good luck Twin.

Win one for the Zipper, Mike.

And, good luck . We’re all counting on you.

  14. TedSpe said, on January 28, 2011 at 10:35 am

twin’s posting on the Splash as well. Multi-tasking. And to think, he hates laptops

    • xootsuit said, on January 28, 2011 at 11:34 am

Obviously he took his amanuensis with him to the hospital.

  15. zumarust said, on January 28, 2011 at 3:33 pm

Ted, I think you kinda missed my point. We all knew Timmy was on the cover of GQ, but did we all know that it’s just one of several covers for the month?
OK- maybe it’s just me that didn’t know. (grin)

    • TedSpe said, on January 28, 2011 at 3:49 pm

I was just busting your chops a little zum. No I *didn’t* know there were multiple covers. The coolest athlete part I knew. But I’m still wondering if it’s the coolest nickname. Because everyone I read mentioned has one (The Freak, The Greatest, Snake, Clyde, Broadway Joe, etc.).

If twin went into the OR around 10am, he should be getting out in about an hour or so.

  16. PawlieKokonuts said, on January 28, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Late getting here but none the less twinned, and tripled, hopes for Twin, times ten.

  17. sj_news_reader said, on January 28, 2011 at 5:44 pm

I’m guessing TF will be out cold till the morning. When you wake up and read these messages I just want to say that you’re a cool dude. I hope they let your dog, Zeke, visit ya in the hospital. Slap a service dog sign on him and no one will ask. Plus it might help you with the hottie nurses.

Exactly Pawlie, the Giants have no boundaries.

    • paulinasia said, on January 28, 2011 at 7:20 pm

I haven’t been here on the Flap much lately, but for some reason checked in today, only to learn of Michael’s latest. Yes, Pawlie, we all be pullin’ for him from all corners of the earth. Hang tough, TF. And, happy lunar new year to everyone…

      • DJLoo said, on January 28, 2011 at 7:52 pm

        Hopefully happier than ’68…

  21. PawlieKokonuts said, on January 28, 2011 at 6:35 pm

    great headline, courtesy of ESPN:

“Step Right Up and Greet the Debts”

Macdog, DJLoo, and others easily get it as a riff on the Met’s’ fan song.

  22. DJLoo said, on January 28, 2011 at 6:35 pm

The unloading of Vernon Wells has re-ignited my Zito-dumping fantasies (and Rowand to a lesser extent). Incredible how little of Wells’ contract Toronto is paying and they didn’t even have to take a bad contract in return.

  23. Flavor said, on January 28, 2011 at 6:52 pm

Loo, the Angels acquisition of Wells is going down as probably the worst trade of all time. You don’t find that type of stupidity everyday. And at least Wells banged out 31 bombs last year (which he will never do again, by the way). Zito is a “3” on his best day and a shitty “5” on his worst day. No one will ever take him………

    • DJLoo said, on January 28, 2011 at 7:11 pm

Speaking of 31 homer seasons, who can forget Mack Jones in ’65?

  24. DJLoo said, on January 28, 2011 at 7:07 pm

Just spitballing here, but if Pettitte doesn’t return, how about an all-headcase swap of Zito and J. Sanchez to the Yanks for A.J. Burnett and Joba Chamberlain.

    • snarkk said, on January 28, 2011 at 9:35 pm

      FUCK THAT…

  25. Flavor said, on January 28, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Loo, it’s a good thing Twin is sedated right now and recovering (I’m assuming he is). Burnett is worse than Zito and probably still owed nearly the same (don’t feel like looking it up). Joba is total and complete NY hype bullshit that is exposing himself as such. Dirrrrrty is a potential ace THIS YR and for the coming years. I give two thumbs down to that spitball thing, but keep em coming, I fucking love your ass, LOO!

  26. DJLoo said, on January 28, 2011 at 7:51 pm

It’s a great deal, Flav. Giants save $15 million on Zito/Burnett. That money will help sign a SS next year (Jose Reyes?) That’s why you gotta give ’em Sanchez. Joba’s been jerked around and has huge potential. Burnett still has great stuff, he’s just insane. Zito back to the AL could work out for NY. Everyone in the deal except Sanchez desperately needs a change of scenery. And who really trusts Sanchez? All 4 guys go into the starting rotation of their new team. Pull the trigger!

    • James said, on January 28, 2011 at 8:09 pm

What’s Dirty Sanchez gonna to do to earn all that mistrust? Go 14-12, with a 3.75 ERA?

    • xootsuit said, on January 28, 2011 at 9:10 pm

The Utley incident in the NLCS is the most recent event to consider. J Sanchez is a bit too old to be acting like that under pressure. (Nonetheless, I don’t think the Giants should trade him. This could be the year . . . as someone once sang.)

      • James said, on January 28, 2011 at 11:18 pm

Over the last 2 years, Dirty has pitched 356 innings and given up 277 hits.

I wonder how many run of the mill MLBers have come and gone who never played nearly as well as Sanchez did in 2010, yet whose mediocrity was never attributed to their flawed psyches. Because we can so easily read Sanchez’s immaturity, distraction etc, players like him become targets of an anxious scrutiny, which inevitably results in disproportionate criticisms whenever they perform poorly. This reaction doesn’t have anything to do with disappointment in the failure to live up to “potential” — it’s simply a response to athletic performances we just somehow *know* are limited by unacceptable character flaws. Better to be shitty and composed than it is to be pretty good, but show vulnerability when you fail.

Dirty simply doesn’t throw enough strikes. Why he can”t wind up and find the right release point as consistently as Matt Cain does, I’m not sure of.

      • xootsuit said, on January 29, 2011 at 10:19 am

“Better to be shitty and composed than it is to be pretty good, . . . ”

No. Good is always better. But compare what Lincecum accomplished in one month last season, pulling himself together physically and mentally to roar into the PS, with Sanchez’s long, less consistent, but nonetheless impressive improvement. Evaluate each on his own. Sanchez has huge trade value, despite questions about his temperament.

Speaking of nothing, who the fuck can *remember* Mack Jones? In, like, whenever?

  28. TedSpe said, on January 28, 2011 at 10:52 pm

My apologies, Loo. Forgot to add 🙂

First off best wishes to Twin. I couldn’t even imagine. Having worked in an oncology clinic I know it takes a strong individual to go through all he’s been through. Get better!……………………….. I know I’m hella late, but I just saw that Brian Wilson debacle from Lopez tonite and umm, that was pretty asinine
