A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Game 1 Goes to The Champs

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 19, 2011

The Rockies found out that the SF Giants are not the NY Mets. I don’t think you could have scripted a game to go much better. Three bombs in the first inning? Timmy throwing a no hitter into the 7th? Basically, that was a good ol’ fashioned beat-down. A beat down that I didn’t not expect, frankly.

I’m sure the Rockies were bummed that Ubaldo’s start got pushed back a day– Lincecum vs Esmil Whoever turned out to not even be a fair fight……

How ’bout the story about Nate’s brother scoring the ball that Nate hit into the upper deck? Very cool. Was anyone else surprised at how few fans were at this game? Come on Denver, your team has the best record in baseball and you’re staying home to watch Dancing with the Stars? Weak……

Ouch. Lopez was plumb nasty there. Heart of the Rox order has been stymied tonight. Sweet.

Ford was completely overmatched in that at bat. Lindstrom was horrible as a closer in florida, he was run out of town. And james, I completely agree on you regarding fontenot.

Double digits in wins. Two games out. Cain tomorrow afternoon. Giants now 9-3 in their last 12 games. Doubt whether they can keep up that pace, but with Vogelsong as the new #5 for a spell, chances are better. This win was huge. Taking the first two at the Box of Rox kinda puts a damper on the pretenders and makes it clear just exactly who it is that happens to be the defending World Champs.

With the current length and strength (and color) of his beard Wilson reminds me of the players for the House of David. Headquartered out of a small town in Michigan in the early 20th Century, the Davids were all Jewish and probably mostly if not all were Orthodox. They were a very well known barnstorming team in their day. Back when i was dealing in antique paper goods and carried a large line of vintage postcards, i had a few featuring those guys.

Every highly successful team needs a good rotation, decent defense, some threats in the lineup and a dominant closer. Wilson has turned positively scary. Wondering how many Giants play for Bochy’s NL All-Star team. Way he’s going now, Wilson should be among them. So should Drrrrty.

    And…I mean that

All-Stars? If they’re chosen today, Giants get Pablo, Buster, Timmy, Cain. Wilson iffy.

The only giant that will get voted in is buster. Bochy can add the rest….

Huff obviously is getting more in a comfortable hitting groove while playing 1st. Belt should get some reps in the OF in Fresno, as well as playing 1b…

    • zumarust said, on April 19, 2011 at 9:12 pm

Yeah, leftfield will probably be a fluid situation throughout the season. Bochy will go with the hot hand, but leftfield will be there for the taking. I would agree that they’re going to keep Huff at firstbase. His hitting is taking off.

      • zumarust said, on April 19, 2011 at 9:15 pm

There is the possibility that Burrell will keep his hold on leftfield. He’s getting his batting average up. Then in late innings they can move Ross to left, and put Nate in right, just like they did last season. We won’t have the late inning D replacement for Huff, without Ishi or Belt being here. DeRosa isn’t really justifying his spot on the roster yet.

    • xootsuit said, on April 19, 2011 at 10:23 pm

yeah, one night. obviously. Nonetheless, as everyone knows, Huff belongs at 1B.

what a f’ing win over Ubaldo. Coupled w/ yesterday, Rox ain’t got nothing that needs fearin’. They’ll be 6-8 games under us, mid-Sep.

Late night fu. Braves have put up an 8 spot snowman in the 9th at LA vs. the pen (Jansen the wild man and Troncoso) to turn a 2-1 game into a laugher.
Uggla hit the second pitch Troncoso threw tonite for a three run bomb. He’ll be in town soon. The kid freeman has an opp field HR off Kuroda and double. Joe bob says check it out.

A toothsome item for Ted: You know Kin Lenz’s work? Zombie for His Love? (Something about needing his flesh.)
“With a mom who rode in rodeo and a dad who was a fan of Wolfman Jack, rockabilly queen Kim Lenz learned about good music early on during her youth in southern California. She grew up listening to the recordings of such artists as Janis Martin, Wanda Jackson, Faron Young, and Johnny Horton. During her childhood she . . . ”
    Prime cut, man.
