Nate’s on the Block Pittsburgh Time and Unfortunately the Sharks Won
According to a tweeter, the Giants are making it known that Nate is on the block. Tough to decide if he’d bring any value at all. He’s more productive than Bowker and Franny. Freddy put up much better numbers than Nate did last year, but Freddy was starting full time. We got very little for those 3 guys. Cash? Something like that. With Ishikawa slipping through waivers untouched, a guy who’s basically the same as Nate (can hit a little with great defense) I really have no idea what we could get from Nate. Probably more cash, that’s about it…….
I hate hockey. The year they sat out was the greatest year of my life. I love pretty much all sports, I just never got into hockey. Bummed they won last night, it means my facebook news page will remain cluttered up with Sharks shit…..
I am intrigued by the Pirates this year. Not only do they have a ton of stud position players who are fast and who have power but they’ve got a closer who throws harder than Wilson–with location. The reason they aren’t winning their division right now is easy to pinpoint: Kevin Correia is their ace. We should beat them but man, if that team ever gets any starting pitching, watch out……..
The Flap Fantasy League Standings (Denny makes a move, Kevin free falls, FH continues to do her best impersonation of Jim Marshall and Ed almost unbelievably drops another point (the lowest point total any team can have is 14)…..
WOW
Damn, speed really does kill. You guys know the real reason why we scored that run, don’t you?
The Pirates brought in their closer in a NON-save situation. You can thank me later.
Seen enough? This is why Ford is valuable even if he never gets a hit in his life..
He’s on pace to achieve that.
The Speed Weapon. Gotta keep this kid around. Electric doesn’t even say it. Simply ~ Wow!
Let’s not forget that excellent play in CF, either.
Off the schneid!
Ballgame!
Go Giants. The save should go to Ford.
“a nice play by Miguel Tejada” Hang in there, Miguel. I’m very pleased I got to see the second half of the game. This team never quits.
.38 Special Drama Queen reels in another one. He’s not this sure death, nearly automatic Closer. Uh, uh. Edge of the seat all the way.
Just saw the video clip of Ford scoring the winning run. I dub him “Mustang.”
Not to quibble, but shouldn’t he have been running on contact?
No. Ball hit right to 2nd? He ran on the lob throw to 1st.
He’s so fast he could force a look from the 2Baseman and THEN run. Kept the safe at first possibility slightly alive.
Jints 90 runs scored; 90 runs against; 0 differential — not true for any of 29 other teams.
Colorado best record in baseball. I for one am not prepared to concede even the division to them.
“Nothing will stop us from being WS Champions again.” errr… wait a minute… better check with the marketing guys on that one.
gutty ass win. Walker completely fucked that play up with his tap-tap of the glove and then the lazy throw over to first but Ford did what he does—make things happen. I’ve said repeatedly that he has value NOW on the MLB roster even if he never hits. Just fucking plug him into the game whenever you want–Win.
I think a number of us called for Ford on the 25 man roster out of ST.
Taking who’s spot?
yes. and if he can do what he did tonite in limited role of a couple innings, why not put him out for 9 and see what happens?
Out of ST? Whose [notice the grammar, pinwheel] spot? Nate’s.
“Nothing is different from last year.” Marcom department likes this one better, but I still have my doubts.
“Not to quibble, but shouldn’t he have been running on contact?” Not his decision, that’s called by Bochy.
OK. Just wondering what “the book” says. Extra innings- tie game- on the road- one out- speedball at third – # 3 hitter on deck…..
first four of these shots are some great Ford snaps of the game: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/c/a/2011/04/26/SPLN1J82P3.DTL&object=%2Fc%2Fpictures%2F2011%2F04%2F26%2Fsp-giants27_PH_f_0503374857.jpg
Flav, re: “pirates all time HR leader”…is that Ralph Kiner? He was a mets broadcaster known as a master of malaprop, wasn’t he? East coast fans must have a reservoir of Kinerisms.
willie–I guessed Kiner and never bothered to see the results. Stargell and Parker were the other 2 choices. I think the Pirate broadcast crew thinks they are dealing with morons…….
The roster spot will work itself out. But Ford’s play tonight was undeniable. He’s a weapon that Nate/Ishikawa/Bowker Gang/etc just can’t match. He wins games. You find a way to put a guy like that on your roster……..
D’Backs killing Phillie 2 nights in a row?
How long until Sandoval is back in the 3 hole?
Don’t have a problem with Sf trying to jettison Nate, but that would make Fontenot the only LH PH on the bench as long as Belt’s in fresno, correct?
Thinking about Starlin Castro’s horrendous fielding last night . . . a trifecta. Well, at least he didn’t do a Bob Brenly, who screwed up 4 times in one inning back in 1984 or 85 and should have been called for another one that was ruled a hit. Of course, Bob was playing 3rd base and should never have given up his “tools of ignorance” (catchers gear).
He was responsible for all the runs in that game, for both teams. I think his errors scored 3 or 4 unearned runs and he had the 4 or 5 RBIs to win it.
