A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Darren Ford Needs to be on this Team

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 27, 2011

“I’ll tell you what, that was one of the most impressive displays of speed I’ve ever seen on a baseball field.”–Bochy

When your manager says that, I’m guessing you feel pretty good about staying on the team. I don’t know how they are gonna do it, but the Giants need to keep Darren Ford at the major league level. I don’t give one whit if he ever takes an at bat. This dude would win a dozen games for us a year by just pinch running late in a game. He would generate a pretty impressive WAR number for a guy who never bats. I still say Walker lolly-lobbed that ball over to first and he should have known who was on third. Hell, everyone knows who this guy is already. Opposing pitchers (Morales in Colorado and Hanrahan last night) seem to have a panic attack as soon as he strolls on to first base.

Anyway, Nate probably goes when Torres comes back up. I’m not sure if we’ve got a player who’s about to come down with a phantom injury, but somehow, some way, Darren Ford needs to stay up here……..

this pitcher pitches like Dontrelle Willis — when Dontrelle Willis was still Dontrelle Willis

Runzler isn’t getting it done. Plus, looks like he’s developing Steve Sax disease throwing to bases. That ain’t cool in late innings when guys are likely to bunt…

Atem balls, scorched to the outfield. Tells the tale.

I think the lineup might be missing a Gomez or two. It’s definitely missing something, it’s, it’s, it’s…
    It’s not too good.

Wow, Pablo with a walk. Nice job…

Perfect DP by Tejada to end the contest. As usual, Giants can’t get out of Steel Town fast enough. This team is going to look way different by August 1 compared to Opening Day….

Well, that’s the way it worked out last year. So?

      • snarkk said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:36 pm

So, it will. That’s all. It’ll take a few months to sort out. The pitching’s fine, the rest has to be tuned up…

Wasted Bum’s best effort of the year. Now 0-5 in his starts. Entire offense blows.
Cow, goat, virgin. Something needs to be sacrificed.

How about that gopher in the back lot?

  8. stixwiz said, on April 27, 2011 at 6:57 pm

They have reached the ‘can’t hit their way outta a wet paper bag’ stage. Can they droop any lower? At this point Tejada is looking like a major mismatch. He’s a hacker and when hackers go south, nothing works for them. He hit into some bad luck last night, but if it weren’t for that the Giants would be totally lacking in the luck department.

Still a long season ahead, but Giants should be making hay on this Eastern jaunt, with sub .500 teams. Somehow, they keep meeting teams on their own level.

They had hirtting slumps last year and you all did the end of the world shtick then. And I talked you off the ledge then. This year I’m going to let you jump.

    • Nipper said, on April 27, 2011 at 8:06 pm

      Yes please jump!

  10. snarkk said, on April 27, 2011 at 7:20 pm

With this pitching, nobody’s on the ledge yet, except maybe Dennis, but he’s out there regularly with the pigeons. Last season they had major changes at halftime. Should be no different this year. Gamer, Tejada, Burrell, Runzler, Affeldt, Whiteside, DeRosa, Fontenot, Nate — all are at risk of change before the summer is over.

You guys are so hot on Ford, with this team wide slide going on, why not start him tomorrow?…

    • Nipper said, on April 27, 2011 at 8:07 pm

      It’s April. Calm down.

      • snarkk said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:33 pm

        Nippy, kiss my ass…

  12. Del Mar Dennis said, on April 27, 2011 at 7:44 pm

Bad night for our offense, even worse one for Bowker. Pirates DFA’d him after the game.

    • Nipper said, on April 27, 2011 at 8:08 pm

      Grab a beer.

  13. twinfan said, on April 27, 2011 at 7:45 pm

    Sure.

    Ford CF
    Burriss 2B
    Huff 1b
    Sandoval 3B
    Burrell Lf
    Ross RF
    Fontenot SS
    Whitey C

    • snarkk said, on April 27, 2011 at 7:52 pm

Alrighty then, why the hell not? Let’s see that speed on top of the lineup wreak havoc…

    • unca chuck said, on April 27, 2011 at 8:06 pm

OK, now I’m on the ledge with Dennis . . .

      • Nipper said, on April 27, 2011 at 8:10 pm

        BLEEP the ledge!

  14. xootsuit said, on April 27, 2011 at 8:10 pm

espn paid a lot of attention to Reyes tonight. Their editing made the guy look like a complete asshole. If he’s really so hot headed, no way the Giants go after him (later this season, after the Wilpon scandal makes the McCourt debacle look like a garden variety divorce).

  15. unca chuck said, on April 27, 2011 at 8:42 pm

He’s strictly a rental. Whatever they lose to get him will be lost money, but the dude can flat out play. Having him at the top of this lineup would be pretty killer for this team. Still and all I doubt it happens.

He’s going to get an astronomical contract next year. Zito money.

Nipper, you write as inanely and as often as yourself and that fuckhead villalonamvp on the Splash. I don’t actually read what you and him write there as you’re both on ignore. I don’t have the ability here and it’s up to Flav whether you stay or not. So I can only ask…Here on the Flap…if you’re going to insist on being continually, morally and cerebrally bankrupt… kindly,
    Please shut the fuck up!!
    Thank you.

    • xootsuit said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:07 pm

      “what you and HE write”

    • TedSpe said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:17 pm

      Yes, Mr. xoot

  17. xootsuit said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:05 pm

uh huh. Let’s bring in a self-centered hot-tempered rental to fuck things up for the stretch run. Hey, good idea. He can flat out play to showcase his own talent, while he ruins our chances to get to the PS. See, he gets the PR he needs for contract negotiations over the winter, and we get screwed. yeah, good idea. . . .

    • Unca Chuck said, on April 27, 2011 at 10:35 pm

How would bringing in one of the best SSs in the league fuck things up, Xoot?

Showcasing his talent? How is that a problem? Yeah, that .321 BA, doubles, triples, and stolen bases are a real bitch. it’s much better to have Tejada hit a buck 98 and misplay routine grounders.

Seriously? you don’t see the upside to having this guy? Even as a rental?

The ONLY downside is that there’s no way the brass keeps him here (he’s the next $120 million man), and you give up a lot to rent him.

    • xootsuit said, on April 28, 2011 at 2:59 am

      I’m questioning the man’s character.

      • Unca Chuck said, on April 28, 2011 at 6:13 am

Burrell had similar complaints before he got here . . .

The point is, Reyes coming to this team would not shake up the fragile peace within the clubhouse, or any such bullshit as that. He would either fit in, or play out the string. Most likely a boatload better than Miggy could dream of doing.

    Gentlemen (question mark),
Please forgive my outburst. It was a shitty loss and I was in a foul mood.
    Still…Nipper? Still…annoying…etc. etc. etc.

  19. twinfan said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:19 pm

With all the heat on Tejada, fact is their only consistent hitter thus far has been Sandoval. Also their best defender…

    • TedSpe said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:21 pm

      Their best defender?
Okay. No arguement. But back that up.

    • snarkk said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:43 pm

Everybody but Pablo go on a crash diet immediately…

  20. TedSpe said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:26 pm

    Oh, I forgot the..Nipper post:
Yeahhhh, like twin said, the best defender!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(evidence will be provided after twin’s rebuttal. And then I’ll say…”yeahhh, like he said”)

  21. TedSpe said, on April 27, 2011 at 9:46 pm

Oh shit. More bad news nipper. Turns out, eating armidillos causes leprosy!!!!
So slow down on them breakmistifusses

  22. Rough Trade said, on April 27, 2011 at 10:14 pm

Wasn’t it felt here they needed 2 of Belt, DeRosa and Sandoval to have good yr’s to remain at the top?

  23. snarkk said, on April 27, 2011 at 11:47 pm

Well, Pirates DFA’d Bowker after the game tonite. Claim him and bring him back!…

  24. mrmrbill said, on April 27, 2011 at 11:49 pm

How’d the Giants do tonight? Any observations for the upcoming changes of next game?
