Darren Ford Needs to be on this Team

When your manager says that, I’m guessing you feel pretty good about staying on the team. I don’t know how they are gonna do it, but the Giants need to keep Darren Ford at the major league level. I don’t give one whit if he ever takes an at bat. This dude would win a dozen games for us a year by just pinch running late in a game. He would generate a pretty impressive WAR number for a guy who never bats. I still say Walker lolly-lobbed that ball over to first and he should have known who was on third. Hell, everyone knows who this guy is already. Opposing pitchers (Morales in Colorado and Hanrahan last night) seem to have a panic attack as soon as he strolls on to first base.
Anyway, Nate probably goes when Torres comes back up. I’m not sure if we’ve got a player who’s about to come down with a phantom injury, but somehow, some way, Darren Ford needs to stay up here……..

They have reached the ‘can’t hit their way outta a wet paper bag’ stage. Can they droop any lower? At this point Tejada is looking like a major mismatch. He’s a hacker and when hackers go south, nothing works for them. He hit into some bad luck last night, but if it weren’t for that the Giants would be totally lacking in the luck department.
Still a long season ahead, but Giants should be making hay on this Eastern jaunt, with sub .500 teams. Somehow, they keep meeting teams on their own level.

With this pitching, nobody’s on the ledge yet, except maybe Dennis, but he’s out there regularly with the pigeons. Last season they had major changes at halftime. Should be no different this year. Gamer, Tejada, Burrell, Runzler, Affeldt, Whiteside, DeRosa, Fontenot, Nate — all are at risk of change before the summer is over.
You guys are so hot on Ford, with this team wide slide going on, why not start him tomorrow?…

espn paid a lot of attention to Reyes tonight. Their editing made the guy look like a complete asshole. If he’s really so hot headed, no way the Giants go after him (later this season, after the Wilpon scandal makes the McCourt debacle look like a garden variety divorce).
He’s strictly a rental. Whatever they lose to get him will be lost money, but the dude can flat out play. Having him at the top of this lineup would be pretty killer for this team. Still and all I doubt it happens.
He’s going to get an astronomical contract next year. Zito money.

The ONLY downside is that there’s no way the brass keeps him here (he’s the next $120 million man), and you give up a lot to rent him.

The point is, Reyes coming to this team would not shake up the fragile peace within the clubhouse, or any such bullshit as that. He would either fit in, or play out the string. Most likely a boatload better than Miggy could dream of doing.
