A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Winning By Producing the Bare Mimimum

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 22, 2011

It’s too bad, the last one was one of my better ones. Oh well, new gold is alway but a click away…..

I want to know if any of you have a lead with one of the Elias Sports guys. I need to know if this has ever happened before in the history of major league baseball. I’m guessing it has not…

The Giants have won 8 straight home games. These are the runs they’ve scored in each game: 4, 3, 3, 1, 4, 3, 2, 3. Grand total: 23 in 8 games. There opponents have scored, get this, 11 (E-L-E-V-E-N) runs. In 8 (E-I-G-H-T) games. I find that…wait for it……ASTOUNDING!!!!!!!!!!

There has to be something historical there. First guy who hears back from an Elias guy about it gets a bobblehead of me taking a dump (in fact, such an item truly does exist–a 40 year old birthday present from The Boney One, one of the great b-day presents in the history of time)….

By the way, XOOT and BOZO tied in the voting for POTVP. I’ll post it later today. How it will pain me to take down “All things Molina”…..

I’m having some technical difficulties with the snipping tool, that’s why you aren’t seeing the Flap Fantasy Standings posted lately…….

WTF was that moron thinking? Burrell’s on deck with the chance, albeit slim with his recent production, to give us the lead back with a 2-run jack and he runs into the second out on a throw that was still off-line.

  2. zumarust said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:29 pm

    This pitching change seems weird.

  3. snarkk said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Gonzales has made Huff look horrible so far, so now Geren brings in a righty to face him? I don’t care how good he is against lefties, I’d let Gonzales finish off Huff again…

  4. Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Wow. I can’t believe Geren is taking out Gio for the right-hander to face Huff. Daddy looked silly his last AB swinging in the dirt. If Geren lucks into this move, I wanna hear who he likes in the Belmont.

  5. zumarust said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:33 pm

    Geren’s a GENIUS.

    • snarkk said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:35 pm

Yeah, and Huff is into rolling over grounders to the right side these days…

  6. Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Bob Geren: “I’d rather be stoopid and lucky than smart and good.” Fuck him.

  7. twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:36 pm

Fruckie blew that inning up, he’s just not a smart base runner.

  8. snarkk said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:37 pm

WTF is our Pen doing? The A’s can’t hit for crap, yet they’re walking them. Throw a damn strike, and let this average defense do its work…

  9. snarkk said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:47 pm

Well, the walk comes home to bite. Nice throw by Burriss. I think he was out, if Posey hangs on to the ball. He has to catch that ball, and put on the tag. But, even if he had, the ump wasn’t even looking, he was calling the guy safe already…

  10. Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Great throw from Burriss out in LF. If “concussion boy” holds on to that ball, maybe the HP ump calls him out. But it seems like Dale Scott already had his mind made up. Still, helluva throw from a guy who normally plays the middle infield.

This just in: our offense and defense still stink on ice. Bullpen: adding more cubes to their ice trays to join the party…

    THE….CULT….OF…..NATE!!!

  13. Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:58 pm

    Two words: Shit and Holtz.

  14. snarkk said, on May 22, 2011 at 3:59 pm

That may have been Nate’s best total AB and result + clutch since he’s been a Giant. Super AB…

  15. ewisco said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:01 pm

when you say nate schierholtz, you’ve said it all!

    • Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:06 pm

It’s true. Nate has a couple of Clydesdale in his backyard to prove it.

  16. twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:04 pm

He’s one short of his career high in HR, which was in 285 AB. I can be conviced to like him

  17. zumarust said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:05 pm

    Nice turn of the DP.

  18. snarkk said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:07 pm

    Now that’s some nice D!
Tejada is clearly a better 3rd baseman than a SS now.
    Good turn by Burriss, too…

  19. Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Buster walk-off. You heard it here first.

    • zumarust said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:11 pm

      I like it.

    • Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Nobody listens to me anyways, so scratch his last AB. 🙂

  20. snarkk said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:12 pm

Every freekin’ game is a nail biter.
I’m down to the nubs, and its not even June yet.
By September, I’ll be chewing on my elbows…

    • Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:23 pm

The line that had to edit from the movie (I have the original screenplay) when Lili Von Shtupp asked Sheriff Bart, “Tell me, schatze, is it twue what they say about the way you people are… gifted?” “Oh, it’s twue. It’s twue. It’s twue, it’s twue! ”

The response Mel Brooks had written out for Cleavon Little was, “you’re sucking on my elbow” was edited by the producers at Warner Bros. First Amendment Right’s my ass.

  21. twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:13 pm

I remember the first time Burriss played the OF in the Majors. Made a throw just like today’s, same result, but from RF. Real nice arm though. Good weekend for him..

  22. zumarust said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:17 pm

    Extree innings.

  23. zumarust said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:25 pm

  27. Del Mar Dennis said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:59 pm

Just another walk-off win at home. Yawn.

  28. unca chuck said, on May 22, 2011 at 4:59 pm

Thank God there’s a Ford in your future!!!

  29. unca chuck said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Burriss with a couple great ABs this weekend…

  30. willied said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:02 pm

wow. what an amazing inning….base hit line drives from the two speed guys, and it’s all over. sweeney made a good play on that too, nobody else in baseball scores.
    stop by any time, geren!

  31. Flavor said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:04 pm

HoMotherfuckingHum. Another one. It is so much fun to watch these young guys make plays…..

  32. Bozo said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:04 pm

Damn man, I thought Flan was going to cross home before Ford.

    WTG Giants.

  33. snarkk said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:04 pm

    Sheezus! What a great game.
Maybe they better play all these young guys some more…
LMAO — Flannery is running down towards the plate waving Ford in, I thought Flannery was going to slide with him.
7 one-run wins now, tied for MLB league with — the Royals?
Super weekend. I’m re-stocking tomorrow on the nitroglycerin pills.
    Adios…

    • twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:07 pm

I think you mean 7 walk off wins.

    • unca chuck said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:09 pm

What, are they 18-3 in one-run games?

  34. twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:06 pm

Ford knew it was going to be bang-bang, did you catch the shot as he went down the line? Did Borel have the ride?

  35. Macdog said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:07 pm

11th Heaven! Looks like Manny will be sticking around for a while now.

  36. unca chuck said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:09 pm

Shit, Jackson was pretty close to the IF dirt. No way Flan doesn’t send him, though.

    Hell of a play there.

Just saw the Schierholtz AB. Wow.

  37. unca chuck said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:11 pm

    Was that Sweeney?

  38. mrmrbill said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:12 pm

hey, our non-scoring offense made 5 today!

  39. twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:15 pm

Sure as hell wasn’t DeJesus. His Friday throw still hasn’t come down..

    • unca chuck said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:34 pm

      LQTM . . .

    • unca chuck said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Funny thing was (from the LF bleachers) , I looked at deJesus til the ball got to him and looked toward Burriss to see where he was (a step and a half from the bag), and looked back, and the throw was fricking rainbowed.

      Sorry I missed ya by a couple games, Blade . . .

More (semi-) interesting details on the Stow arrest: “Suspect in Bryan Stow beating may have tried to conceal identity with new tattoos” http://lat.ms/kKSfSc

  41. Flavor said, on May 22, 2011 at 5:36 pm

Man, I know a fair number of parole officers and most of them wouldn’t have been half as diligent as this guy. Sir, I salute you…..

  42. zumarust said, on May 22, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Giants now have the second best winning % in the NL, only a game behind Philly in that regard. And of course, the Giants are now 3 1/2 ahead of Colorado. And the Giants are doing this playing the fewest homegames in the NL so far.
I know you all know this stuff already, I just liked saying it!

  43. PawlieKokonuts said, on May 22, 2011 at 6:25 pm

I’m late finding all this out, but not ashamed of my glee.

  44. SanDawg said, on May 22, 2011 at 6:34 pm

What a weekend. I fucking hate the A’s. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but it feels like they have had the upper hand over the years in these inter-league games.
To sweep them at home in dramatic fashion—all the while giving away world series swag (lest they forget for a second who the champs are), was pretty damn sweet. Throw in the Stow arrest and it makes it even better.

Here’s hoping Twin and Ted don’t repeat the blogger version of the Thrilla in Manila to disrupt the vibe.

    • twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:05 pm

I’ve been posting all day, hope I haven’t said anything to offend you all..maybe Flavor can make a list of unwelcome and overworked subjects, so we know what to avoid. I’d say #1 should be “Dirty as basket case”..

    • TedSpe said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:11 pm

      Don’t worry

  45. Flavor said, on May 22, 2011 at 6:39 pm

I have a very strong vibe that we’re going to start seeing Burriss play SS a lot more regularly…..

    • twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:11 pm

Not sure it would be SS, said to be his weakest position. Too bad Fruckie cann’t play SS. But how exciting for the kids to win this today. It’s going to be a tough blow for whoever is cut for Panda.

  46. SanDawg said, on May 22, 2011 at 6:53 pm

I’m totally down with Burriss getting some more playing time—especially against lefties.

    • willied said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:38 pm

yeah…. hell, play him in LF.

  47. blade3colorado said, on May 22, 2011 at 6:57 pm

Damn, do I have good mojo or what? I attended 3 games and they win all 3 against different teams no less . . . Not exactly a series sweep, but some sort of sweep nevertheless.

I am really looking forward to riding that jet back to Denver with my G-Men sweatshirt on, grin in place, and no doubt – a plane load of Rockies fans wanting to kick my ass, but knowing that the U.S. Air Marshall will arrest them if they do . . . Ha.

Maybe not Patton going through Sicily, but a close second nonetheless. Go Giants! 🙂

    • TedSpe said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:14 pm

Nice work, blade. You can go home now

      • blade3colorado said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:25 pm

        Umm . . . uh . . . ahem . . .Right now?

    • TedSpe said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:27 pm

      Oh no..I mean…you know…at your leisure

  48. Nipper said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:13 pm

A’s didn’t win anything but played well in this series. Both teams played with heart.

  49. twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 7:25 pm

I think I indicated how pleased I was to see Fuentes Friday. A quarter of the way through and he’s responsibe for 8 losses.

  50. twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 8:13 pm

The walk offs, 7,obviously require some clutch hitting. So while they’re not hitting “regularly”, the clutch hitting late is, dare I say: ASTOUNDING!!!!!

  51. Flavor said, on May 22, 2011 at 8:31 pm

its absolutely astounding. I’d chalk it up to experience with pressure (from everything they did last season and in the PS) but it’s not just the “WS Guys” who are doing this. Burriss and Ford today. Rowand. Fontenot. Huff. Tejada.Franchez. Nate. It’s fucking everyone who takes a stick into the batters box with the game on the line. A-fucking-STOUNDING!

  52. DJLoo said, on May 22, 2011 at 8:43 pm

Nice to see Schierholtz taking my advice from this morning and homering down the RF line…

  53. twinfan said, on May 22, 2011 at 9:07 pm

I thought you had traded him with Belt and Cain for Jack Wilson.

  54. eddacker said, on May 23, 2011 at 12:00 am

ford, like all great runners found a third gear when he saw how close that play was to be. worth every second, to nights game was.
    go Giants!
