A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Four Guys Who Won’t Be Starting For Us For Long

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 1, 2011

For this offense to get better it’s not just about who Sabean is going to add but rather who he’s going to subtract……

Eli Whiteside is not a starting MLB catcher. That hit and run last night was actually the best piece of hitting I’ve ever seen him do. The subsequent 3 strike outs reminded me of who he is. He’s got 2 hits since Buster went down (and if they don’t do that hit and run last night, he’d still be stuck on 1…..

Miguel Tejada: Miggy doesn’t even seem to try to drive the ball anymore. Every hit, ever out, seems to be some type of ground ball to/through the infield. Even his hard hit balls don’t seem to get much carry on them. And he seems super tentative on defense, reacting defensively instead of just reacting naturally. It’s hard to watch him play baseball right now.

Pat Burrell: This is the side of Bochy I still don’t get. On his pre-game show he was saying that since he was giving Huff a rest he had to have a clean up guy in the 4 spot and that’s why he wrote Burrell in there. But anyone can see that Burrell is done. What his baseball card says is of no consequence anymore. At BEST he’s going to work a walk, which he did twice last night. Is that what Bochy was looking for from the 4 hole?

Aubry Huff: This is a tough one to write but I think Huff’s 1 on/1 off pattern is in his head. We’re 2 months into the season and he’s still scuffling hard. I know how much money he’s making but Rowand makes more and he finally had to take a seat. At the very least, Bochy has to stop batting him 4th……

Tough game for Vogelsong. He’s now 3rd in the NL in ERA behind Jurrgins and Josh Johnson. His control wasn’t there but he gutted through 5 innings against a tough offensive team in their yard. We had a rare bullpen meltdown, it happens. I wonder when the National media guys are going to latch on to this story? Typical troll writers, they’ve got no problem writing a million stories about Zito’s failures but as soon as an amazing, uplifting story like this replaces Zito’s failures those National writers are nowhere to be seen. This is a great story, someone at SI should be writing about it……….

    Send Nate . .

  2. zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Give the thirdbase ump some credit. He didn’t ring up Nate for the third strike. Maybe he was thinking about how the Giants were owed one because of the Pujols at-bat.

    • TedSpe said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:09 pm

      easy chief. He didn’t swing

    • Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:09 pm

Yeah I was going to say that looked like he went . . .

      • zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:11 pm

Ump could have gone either way on that one.

  3. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Shitholtz! Down to our last strike. And that’s what Burris brings. He starts again tomorrow at 3B.
Tejada’s OPS now sits at .507. Shoot that fucker.

    • Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:10 pm

      Burriss at 3rd? Don’t make me laugh . . . .

      • Del Mar Dennis said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:14 pm

If Bochy will let ’em play 1B, he’ll surely stick ’em back at 3B.

      • Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:22 pm

You do realize the ’em is a contraction of them, right?

  4. TedSpe said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:08 pm

    hahaaa!!

  5. EdGdsnInExile said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:09 pm

Now THAT’S the kind of fight we’ve been missing! Alright Nate!

  6. zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:13 pm

Doesn’t Tejada make the quickest outs you’ve ever seen?

  7. zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:16 pm

Yahtzee? Haven’t heard that word in a while. One of the great dice games of all time.

  8. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Can you use the word ‘yahtzee’ in scrabble?

Score ya a shit load of points . . .

  9. zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:19 pm

    Freddie’s got hops.

  10. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:19 pm

I thought they recently made a ruling about proper nouns . . .

    • zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Ah- then I don’t know. I haven’t played Scrabble in a while. I got disillusioned about the game. I played some people that knew all the obscure words that only Scrabble players know, that allow them to score a lot of points. I call them “fake words,” really. They have a word like “Qac” or something, and say that it’s the tail of a camel, or something.

      • Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:26 pm

See above. I guess it’s only the English (not the US) version that sort of allows proper nouns. Yeah, tranq? WTF?

      • DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:31 pm

“hadj” was always good for me…

      • Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:33 pm

        ZAX

  11. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:21 pm

Is Rowand avail to PH? I don’t think Bochy would use Stewart.

    • DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:27 pm

Well there he is taking a crap in the on deck circle…

  12. blade3colorado said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Ryan “Gas Can” Franklin, huh? This ought to be good . . .

  13. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:29 pm

    Bleh.

    I’ve got a bad feeling about this . . . .

  14. DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:29 pm

    Looks like BW not Romo…

  15. twinfan1 said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:30 pm

You know what this game means, win or lose?
    Mo Whitey..

  16. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:34 pm

    How bad is that call??

    • TedSpe said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:35 pm

      I’ve seen worse.There was that time….
No. That was as bad as that motherfucker that ruined that perfect game last year

    • Bozo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:38 pm

How many times does he have to touch the bag while having the ball in his glove? Because, if it’s more than three the guy was safe.

  17. twinfan1 said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:35 pm

    That sucked, not even close.

  18. DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:36 pm

    Way to bounce back, Frisbee…

  19. twinfan1 said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:36 pm

    Nice job by Manny.

  20. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:36 pm

Bad break on that call at first. Burriss had his foot on the bag. But why did Torres bunt w/ 2 out and no one on in the last inning? He needs to be swinging for the fences. That was a true Gomez move.

    • DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:41 pm

      I didn’t like it either, DMD…

      • zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:43 pm

        Yes, welcome to 2nd-Guessers Anonymous.

  21. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:39 pm

    One last HR for Tejada?

    • zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:42 pm

Well, credit where credit is due; his at-bat lasted longer than a micro-second that time.

  22. TedSpe said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:41 pm

    I’m sorry, I haven’t been keeping up.
But has Miggy hit a ball, besides his one homerun, that leveled above 14 inches this year?

  23. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:42 pm

Three hard hit balls from an O fer 6 from Tejada should get him promoted to cleanup tomorrow.

  24. Rough Trade said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:46 pm

    NATE da man!

  25. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:46 pm

      Ha Ha, Full House.

  35. zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:49 pm

    I dig this Crawford dude.

  36. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:49 pm

And some of you guys were doubting this kid. Shame on you. Crawford’s our SS the rest of the way.
    Get used to it.

    • zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:53 pm

I didn’t doubt him. I saw more of his minor league games than the rest of you all put together.

  37. Bozo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:49 pm

    Way to go Crawfish.

  38. zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:51 pm

“And it’s a play at the plate!….” And here’s some turf in yo’ face.

  39. Bozo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:52 pm

Alright BW shut these fuckers up.

  40. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:53 pm

    No fucking around, now . . .

  41. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:54 pm

    So much for that wish.

  42. twinfan1 said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:56 pm

That was what they call professional hitting by the kid. Who’s in LF for the Cards? Juan Pierre?

    • Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:57 pm

      Pepe Le Pew . . .

      • DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:59 pm

        Pierre Francois de la Brioschi?

  43. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:56 pm

His foot was even on the bag . . .

  44. TedSpe said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:57 pm

    Feeling…preeeeety good right now

  45. stixwiz said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:57 pm

Wow! 16-hit attack. Even if its over 11 innings. Rallies. Two, three and four hit evenings. Maybe that hot, sticky St. Louis weather was just what these hitters needed to get loosened up a bit. And all this after two outs in the 9th. Contributions all up and down the board ~ except for one guy who is not having a good year. Crawford makes up for his ultimately harmless throwing error with his bat. Lookin more and more like a keeper. Could be Ross is heating up, with Nate producing and Freddy staying steady.

    • zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:59 pm

The error was bogus. Ump totally blew the call.

  46. zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:57 pm

The Cardinals won two of their World Series during WWII- that shouldn’t count. Most of the regular ballplayers in MLB were busy trying to save Western Civilization.

    • DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:01 pm

Didn’t they have the one armed outfielder, Pete Gray or Grey?

      • zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:05 pm

        Yes.
And it was a devastating thing for the Black ballplayers to hear about. That’s one of the biggest FU’s the Whites in baseball ever did to the Blacks.

  47. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 8:59 pm

    Ok now . . . enuffz enuff.

  48. zumarust said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:00 pm

And the game is suspended. Drive home safely everyone.

  49. twinfan1 said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:01 pm

Pretty suspicious timing on the outage..

    • Bozo said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:02 pm

      Very suspicious.

  50. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:01 pm

    Fuck this . . .

    Call it . . . StL shouldn’t get any advantage from this . . .

  51. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:06 pm

    Ha ha. Lights.

They are playing the Giants song . . .

  52. TedSpe said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:06 pm

Fuck. They’re playing a fucking SF song
    Assholes? Or admitting defeat?

  53. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:07 pm

    If that isn’t a good sign . . .

  54. DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Wilson was really lights out tonight…

  55. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:10 pm

Turn out the lights, the party’s ooo, uh wait a minute . . .

  56. Bozo said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:10 pm

If I’m BW my first warm-up pitch goes right into the Cards dugout.

  57. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Can Wilson stay loose in the pen?

  58. twinfan1 said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:14 pm

If they called it, Chuckles, the Giant’s runs wouldn’t count.

  59. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:14 pm

I guess not, but why the hell not?

  60. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:16 pm

That’s how you do it. One pitch.

  61. mrmrbill said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:16 pm

    we waited for … that?

  62. ferrethead said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:16 pm

Woo-Hooo!!!!!! (Silly finish, but excellent outcome!)

  63. DJLoo said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:16 pm

I still say Freddy’s easily the team MVP so far…

    • twinfan1 said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:27 pm

People in the know disagree. I’ll give you second, though.

  64. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:17 pm

We waited for one fucking pitch? Since it was the final pitch I won’t bitch too much.

  65. freshtodef80 said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:17 pm

    One pitch!

  66. Big flavor said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:18 pm

  67. Unca Chuck said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:20 pm

They come home 4-3 on this roadie and it’ll be amazing with all the shit that happened.

  68. EdGdsnInExile said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:20 pm

That may catalyzing game. Don’t look now, but we’ve scored 17 runs in three games. And let’s give it up for Manny Burriss at 1B!

    • EdGdsnInExile said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Nate was pretty well spoken there, for about 30 seconds. Then he seemed to forget how to think. The fucker’s inconsistent in everthing he does. He was great tonight, however. Fun game.

On the longer view: Seeing Whiteside in there is painful, isn’t it? He seems twice as bad as he actually is because of who he replaces. Painful.

    • TedSpe said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:29 pm

      Like an anti-VISA commercial
      Priceless

  72. stixwiz said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:31 pm

Very satisfying victory. Contributions all over the place. Even our cleanup hitter got into it, first by giving us our first lead and then by drawing that walk in the 9th. Bochy had Burriss run for him and it paid off bigtime with that SB and then Nate coming through. Ross was on fire. Freddy was hot. Even lil Eli got into the adventure. Bullpen was sterling. Quick recovery from last night’s meltdown.

Winning tomorrow for Drrrty would be super. Even if the Cardinals pull it out, though, we split with them in their own yard and that after the Florida disaster and a bit of a bitter taste in Milwaukee. Worst Giants go on this very telling road-trip is 3 and 4. And we could just win tomorrow. That would be gigantic. This was predicted as one of the more trying 2-city treks of the season. Battered and bruised as they may be, Giants showed a lot of heart. That’s the kinda play which wins championships.

    • TedSpe said, on June 1, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Or gets to the playoffs (let’s not get greedy)

The light trick did not work.

Can you believe this can be a winning road trip? Hope so.
