Time to Step Up their Game, Off the Field……
I’ll be honest, I am pretty disappointed in Brian Sabean and Buster Posey– they have embarrassed themselves and the team. I don’t particularly have an issue with what they said, it’s that they said it at all….
When you are World Series Champions you are under a microscope for pretty much the entire following season. Earlier this year, I remember Huff, Wilson and others going to a hockey game in another city and they acted like it was amateur night–lots of pictures were taken of them basically looking like asses—you know, they way all ball players act when they aren’t playing baseball. But when you’re the WS champs, those photos get plastered all over the place by the national media…..
And now we have the exacta box of Sabean and Posey. Sabean ended up looking like a whiny pussy who was suggesting something bad would happen to Cousins in the future–again, maybe worded a little differently, I KNOW that story doesn’t make the national news–how many times has a ballplayer/manager etc said “we’ll get that guy one day.” They say it and do it all the time. But when you’re the WS champion, you can’t say that stuff, especially as the GM, and expect it to just stay on the friendly airwaves of KNBR.
And then we have Posey releasing a statement that he did not need to release. Inexplicably, he basically says the same thing he said before: I’m not talking to that dude. How does he come across? Pretty much the same way as Sabean….
I find all this just a bit ironic that a team owned by a lawyer who is obviously versed in how to release information to the public, would let the individuals in his organization run around so freely without the proper filter on. It’s minor league stuff. It’s bush league. It’s amateur hour. If they have a PR dept they need to expand their role and/or find some new guys to do the job. Get IN FRONT on what is being said to the public before it is said.
You’ve heard the saying “act like you’ve been there before.” Well, the last week was a great example of the Giants failing to do that……..
Can you imagine the pure GOLD that Showtime is getting if this is how they are acting in public? This could be the greatest documentary of all time…….
The Flap Fantasy Baseball Standings
(Berra’s Bombers continues their assault on 13th place but FH will have NONE of it!)
i don’t think cargo and his buddies want to see anymore of the giants PS and ATT. Have a nice flight home, boys.
I know it seems early, but i’m hearing strains of “over rated.”
Yeah, Kruk was saying he hasn’t thrown that pitch until very recently. Give him a 90+ slider, and he more lights-out . . .
OK, I guess I wasn’t seeing things. If he perfects that Nenish slider, add that to the regular slider and the 2 seamer and cutter, fuhgedabouittt….
I’m thinking The Song may get a look for AS considerations, I know, I know, but wouldn’t that be cool.
Bochy;s picking, so hey, it’s more than likely . . .
that it won’t be an extra phillie.
LQTMD
Nicely done, Will.
POTG: Dragon Warrior…
4-1, 1.68 era for Vogie . . . . . . . . .
Color me blown away . . .
Compare that to if we still were screwing around with Zito out there on a good foot and 82 mph heater.
The vibe differential is galactic…
Shit, Zito doesn’t have a spot on the team.
Too bad, so sad. Bye bye.
You couldn’t color the kid’s placement mat at Denny’s. And it’s color by numbers.
Wash.’s got a rally going, leading 1-0.
3-run jack!
Nats take 4-0 lead in 8th in what looks like a beanball-fest in AZ.
As many of us have noted, it is excellent team policy to keep Burrell around to do what he does so well, draw walks in a late inning P.H. role. Gotta also have either or both Burriss and Ford around to P.R. for him. Torres and Sanchez and sometimes Nate can be good in the clutch.
But POTG, of course, is the Little Birdie that Could. Talk on the board about him being NL Comeback Player of the Year. Don’t hold your breath guys, but he keeps it up for the rest of the season like he’s been going since he started and he could be a serious contender for Cy Young. Vogelsong’s ERA is what, now: 1.68 if my memory glands aren’t sagging too badly. Yowza! Ninety-nine pitches to stifle the Rox on one run. Impressive in any league.
Hats off too, to our .38 Special Drama Queen. This time it was a comparatively quiet ninth. Maybe he’s got a hot date tonight, a little sweetie who is big on bushy, black beards.
Belt’s injury might have saved him a spot when Ford comes back.
It was nice it worked out today, but you don’t keep a guy just to “draw walks in a late inning P.H. role”…
Early in the season he did hit some dingers. Might do it again. When was the last time Pat the Bat hit a double or single?
Bochy just made it crystal clear- Vogelsong will be out there every 5th day, Zitboy’s status notwithstanding.
Yup. Confirmed
Howzabout both?
Yeah, Zito doesn’t have a spot. They ain’t going to a 6 man rotation. He ain’t going to throw out of the pen. DFOC
(Deisgnated for Orange Coiunty)
Zito in the pen is a horrifying thought.
Almost as horrific as carrying a 13-man staff.
that’s nothing new it’s been clear for weeks that they are just warehousing Zito. He had z sprained foot, he was healed like a month ago. And they can keep him on this rehab assignment for up to 30 days. They’ll find another place to hide him once that deadline is up.
Well, it’s another good problem to have. Find a way to keep him around as insurance and if he’s in the pen, he only pitches if the run differential is 5 or more.
“that’s nothing new it’s been clear for weeks that they are just warehousing Zito.”
True, that’s why I said that weeks ago.
“Almost as horrific as carrying a 13-man staff.”
Who’s saying they should, Doomin’ Denny?
” When was the last time Pat the Bat hit a double or single?”
Who knows?
Nats about to blow it.
Good stuff. Torres says Vogey is a ‘great kid’.
Hey, if you’re a 32 yr old still looking for a shot, give the G’s a call.
It’s really incredible to think that the Giants nailed Torres last year and Voggy this year. It simply doesn’t work that way, ever. I said last year, name me a 32 year old player who had never succeeded, toiled in the minors, been out of baseball, Japan, whatever, who did what Torres did last year. Crickets chirped. And now, incredibly, the Giants hit on the SECOND guy to do it. Amazing…..
Vogelsong just worked it out in Japan. Must be a combination of Miso soup and Nuru massage…
I think Raggs and Gardner did something too. This has just been too dramatic of a transformation…..
The Nats in the process of blowing their lead. On the plus side for the Giants, their closer got pulled in the ninth, his confidence shattered, afraid to throw strikes.
They go to extree innings.
Zumie, always the eternal optimist. “Captain, the Japanese just slammed another torpedo into the side of our boat.” “Dean Martin should be happy. His record sales should go up.”
Wrong, wimpy. I’ve done a lot of coaching. I’m always looking at- what can my team take advantage of. The Nats’ bullpen getting roughed up, the Nats getting extended to extra-innings, and taking a plane ride tonight are advantages to the Giants.
But, yeah, being called an opitimist, I’ll take that. I’d rather live life that way.
Or optimist, also. (grin)
Got me on the edge of my seat, the lead depends on this game.. only 4 months to go..
Ha! What the heck- it adds extra pizazz to a D-Backs/Nationals game!
Got my vote foe POTD.
For POTD not foe.
I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a double (double) hit by Tejada today.
Come on now- Tejada’s a singles-hitting machine!
Storen, who I’ve watched since college, is never a player I’ve believed in. He’s had a few shit outings lately, too. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if his house of cards is about to crumble……
The Nats are the Nats, aren’t they. I don’t care what kind of hype the media gives their farm system and the Royals’ farm system. It’s hard to visualize those teams actually ever turning it around.
the Nats got a lot of press over the Werth signing (one that I laughed at the moment he signed that deal) and the Strasburg/Harper draftees. They’ve got some pieces but nothing to fear for a few years, if ever…..
Marcia’s bracelet almost crumbled the house of cards on the Brady Bunch.
Leave it to Tiger to fuck it up for everyone…
Joe Paterson now pitching for AZ. They got him from us in the Rule 5 draft. Loogy, 25 YO , 24 games ,0.66 ERA.
hmm… this Nats game is gettin’ pretty interesting.
Rye bread, grand salami, the whole deal.
Sole possession of first place and a tired-out Nats team tomorrow. Not a bad day. Or — with this much good fortune, something bad is bound to happen! 😉
Bobby Valentine can’t be for real with that dye job……
His head looks like it was sprinkled with gold dust.
Truly annoying…and now his partner Orel is teaming up with Garvey to make an offer to buy the Dodgers. Disgusting…wonder if garvey still considers himself god’s gift to the women of LA.
Man, that Nationals guy hit that one like Hank Aaron used to hit them. Line drives that just keep on going right over the fence.
Joe’s ERA just went from 0.66 to 3.68.
Rough outing.
This one’s more for Chuck, I suppose.
Niners have been having informal player workouts in the South Bay, everybody invited. Heard today a reported conspicuous no show — Crabtree. He must be getting advice from the Giants PR office…
Never miss a chance to rip the Giants.
Vogelsong’s story has been something to behold. If he keeps this up even after the additional 30 days Zito is definitely staring into the abyss. All the talk about Rowand and Tejada. Will the club make the ultimate decision on Zito instead?
I don’t know what the vote counts are but you have to figure Lincecum is a lock. Bochy probably brings Cain, Sanchez, Bumgarner, Huff, Franchez, Torres and Sandoval before V but he’s a cagey fuck so who knows.
I say bring all Giants possible to the game. Bring friggin Murph, too. F the East Coast bias. Who knows when a Giants manager will have the chance again? And, NO extra Phils. Add a Met and a Brave and a Card just to F with Manuel and the Phillie Phans…
Firstplace. Cool! I like seeing the Giants in firstplace in my morning paper.
Pretty amazing week, considering how we felt after last sunday. Team goes into STL and outslugs the best offense in the league last two games even when their SPs are less than stellar, then comes home and wins two well pitched games with clutch hitting.
Find a way to win, is what the good teams do. Others make one mistake too many and figure out a way to lose.
It’s almost creepy how Soph can keep that persona going. Every day, 24/7. HHe gets called out 50 times a day with some sort of dig about being a dude and yet he just keeps plugging away. I just read that he’s imagined his way into Georgetown. That’s a good move, I think he’s in his 5th year at BM……
Grad school, or just transferring? I’ve got some paper from Gtown, no way they’d let Soph in. Nipper, only if he contributes a shitload to the endowment…
2-1 says Soph is more endowed than Nipper.
I’ll let somebody else uncover the answer to that question…
It’s just not happening for the Braves yet this season. Hard to figure. I figured they were a lock for the Wild Card, and had a decent chance to win the division.
Seal has been hot for Soph ever since she/he or someone pretending to be Soph posted some girl on girl stuff here.
Bless his old Oregonian heart. He may be the “Oozing Twat’s” number one fan, but OSF is OK in my book. He’s up there sippin’ on his gin and juice rooting on our Giants. And whether or not if you agree with his take or appreciate his knowledge, he comes off as a jovial old chap to me. I’d bet OSF would make a great a Macy*s store Santa Claus for the holidays. And I’m sure Loo would be the first one to sit on his lap.
He’s an addled old sot, no Einstein, but harmless.
I’m a wee addled myself. Decadron withdrawal is a bitch, been through it too often.Never again. Night all. They will sweep the Nats.
I make a motion…someone opens a window
Buster visited the clubhouse today and said: “I appreciate all the support, all the texts and phone calls,” he said.
Oops…
