A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Ho Hum, Another Walk Off Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 7, 2011

I missed most of the game but I see the bullpen was lights out with 8 innings of no run ball. In fact, the last 10 innings we pitched were shut out innings. I ran out of adjectives a long time ago to describe the heart and soul of this team…

Do you think the Nats are looking forward to getting another shot at Dirrrrrty today? He put up one of the weirder lines of the season the last time he pitched against them: 5 innings, 6 walks, 7 k’s, 0 ER’s. I think he is probably going to steamroll them today–that loss last night had to have taken a little wind out of their sail…….

Only 2 teams (Philly and St Louis)  in all of baseball have won more games than us and no one in the American League has more victories. Bizarre……

Zito had a good line last night. No surprise, a bunch of single A batters aren’t going to the plate to coax a walk out of him (he walked nobody). I bet all the Ports batters went up their wide eyed and aggressive trying to get a hit off a former CY-for most of them, that’s as close as they’ll ever get to facing one again…….

The Flap Fantasy Baseball Standings

(there’s a new sheriff in town, at least patrolling the dregs of the standings. Berra’s Bombers, once so low they had a point total of 12, have risen from the ashes and planted a flag at the top of Mount 13! Giant head makes a monster 12 point move and No Talent clings to his once great lead)

Snakes coughed one up in Pittsburgh. D. Hernandez gave up 4H, W and 5ER and didn’t retire a single batter in the 8th. Ouch.

    Rare gaffe by Torres…

Not baseball but funny here because of the “gay ass smiley face” history of comments:

    @BorowitzReport

I’m trying this thing where I act out emoticons in real life. I call them “emotions.”

    • ferrethead said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:17 pm

I keep hoping that if I’m a really good girl, Andy Borowitz might marry me. He is HIGH-larious!!! 😀

  4. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 7, 2011 at 7:59 pm

Either walk ’em or hit ’em. Don’t let Morse swing the bat.

  5. unca chuck said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:01 pm

    Can he limit the damage?

  6. unca chuck said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:02 pm

Wow. Sanchez wiggles to fight another inning.

  7. Bozo said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:03 pm

Alright, get that run back Giants.

  8. DJLoo said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:04 pm

Great job by Sanchez – like Stewart’s pitch calling. I think JS should throw more off speed stuff…

    • Bozo said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:13 pm

The off speed shit seems to be working the best. I agree, keep riding that pony.

    • Flavor said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:15 pm

      totally agree

  9. stixwiz said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:07 pm

Wise decision indeed to issue that IP to Morse. That dude is hotter than the proverbial three dollar pistol on Saturday night. Drrrrty dodged some flying lead in that episode.

  10. unca chuck said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:13 pm

    Right back into trouble.

  11. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:19 pm

I don’t know what Bochy said out on the mound, but I’d scrap that speech for awhile.

  12. DJLoo said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:19 pm

Not good when the OOPS is greater than the OPS…

    • Flavor said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:27 pm

stepping up your game Loo, I love it!

      • ferrethead said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:18 pm

I know – Loo is on fire tonight!

  13. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:22 pm

Jesus H. Christ. Throw the ball to first base. There must be a goddamn virus in the Giants system. All our third basemen try to tag the runner. Throw the goddamn ball!

  14. Flavor said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:27 pm

3 shut outs tonight already with 2 more in the 6th. Time to start passing out some flaxeed oil……

  15. Kevin said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Since Chucks site is trashed, Dennis have you been keeping up with ASmith stories, seems he is bound and determined to show he is a leader. But not everyone is on board with that, namely Mr. Crabtree. Crabby sounds like he is going to be the next T Owens.

    • Del Mar Dennis said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:42 pm

Crabtree is my new favorite 49er. He might hate A*** S**** even more than I do.

    • unca chuck said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:46 pm

      It’s kinda working ,. , ,, , BTW

  16. DJLoo said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:34 pm

    Is the whole BP available?

    • twinfan1 said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:14 pm

Except for the guys you traded.

  17. DJLoo said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:42 pm

Seems like Nix & Morse are up every inning…

    • Bozo said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:57 pm

Morse the mouth breather, who has been up every inning in this series, could play Ringo’s part in caveman. Although, you’d have to switch Barbara Bach with Barbara Billingsley.

  18. unca chuck said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:44 pm

That’s because nasty loads the bases every inning.

    Has he hit 100 pitches?

  19. Rough Trade said, on June 7, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Nats are a royal pain in the ass for the G’s. Really could have used 7-8 from Sanchez, but he’s already at 96.

    • willied said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:39 pm

I’ll never forget how they fucked up the game bonds set the record. Everyone was all happy, and the Nats had a six run rally and won.

  20. twinfan1 said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:03 pm

Coulda used 7-8 from Timmy and they would’nt need 7-8 from Sanchez…
    Sanchex 5 4 2 2 5 6
    Timmy 5 5 4 4 3 5

  21. Flavor said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:15 pm

    both are pretty shitty lines……..

    • twinfan1 said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Yeah, 2 runs and 4 are just about the same.

  22. zumarust said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:16 pm

    Alright- time for a rally.

  23. zumarust said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Panik, Crick, and Susak. As musical-sounding as Tinkers to Evers to Chance.

*** Panik, Crick, and Susak. As musical-sounding as Tinkers to Evers to Chance. ***

I was thinking it sounded more like the song writing team for The Beer Barrel Polka.

I love you, zum. You’re like the Mr. Rodgers of oneflapdown.77
Completely indespensible. Keep it up my friend.

  25. TedSpe said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:27 pm

    • zumarust said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Sanchex? Well, I’ve heard of Corn Chex and Wheat Chex and Rice Chex. All favorite cereals of mine, by the way. I’m a big Anything-Chex cereal fan.

  26. unca chuck said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:30 pm

Werth was really busting it down the line on that AB.

  27. twinfan1 said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:32 pm

That’s OK, they’re all the same

  28. willied said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Great LP, Frostbite…. the cut right after that is even better: ” Dont you go reachin across my plate!”

  29. zumarust said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:36 pm

  33. eddacker said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:46 pm

OMG, the Giants refuse to late some runners.
And who is the blond lady behind home with the . . . animated gestures?
Why are the flags at half mast? I didn’t notice it last night.

    • TedSpe said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:49 pm

    • eddacker said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:50 pm

no trouble blocking the plate then with lots of cushion to absorb the runner.

    • TedSpe said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:50 pm

      Getting close

tough loss, wilson gets a rest and the Nationals, who must be dog tired and down a bit after yesterday’s loss, get a little relief.

  41. Del Mar Dennis said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:56 pm

Both Tejada and NO Whitey were sitting on the bench tonight. What the hell did you guys expect?

  42. willied said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:57 pm

    not bad, chuck.
my question was going to be, if benjie actually does block the plate, how do you get him off it?

  43. twinfan1 said, on June 7, 2011 at 9:58 pm

“Bad lineups or not, the Nats starters have absolutely owned the Giants this year.”
It happens. Not to fear, we won’t have to worry about them in the playoffs

  44. TedSpe said, on June 7, 2011 at 10:00 pm

I’m a little confused why these commentators are criticizing Sanchez when he gave up 2 runs.
This seems more of a not hitting issue as opposed to a bad pitcher issue.
    What do I know?

    • ferrethead said, on June 7, 2011 at 10:03 pm

Ted, I guess Jonathan was supposed to score 3 runs…

  45. ferrethead said, on June 7, 2011 at 10:01 pm

Kinda saw this one coming as per my entry as the game was getting started. Zimmerman had lost a couple 2-1 contests and only had a couple so-so outings.

Giants still have issues, primarily due to lack of a true sparkplug at the plate, whether a table-setter or someone who feeds on RISP. Ronnie Paulino, currently backup catcher for the Mets, belonged to the Giants a couple years back for a matter of hours. Currently he is batting a bit over .300 in somewhat limited use. Don’t know much about his game-calling or general defensive abilities. He would be a probable upgrade at the plate. Pablo will be an upgrade at 3B. When two of your hitters have virtually no production, the others need to make up for that reality. Add low production from the pitcher’s spot and a team’s offense can be like an engine which is consistently missing.

Team pitching remains almost consistently excellent. A bit more action at the plate and SF will cruise. Only gainer tonight was LA, as both the Snakes and Rox also went down in flames. Giants face a Cuban defector pitcher tomorrow who to date has carried his own gas-can to the mound. If Cain is on his game Giants should win another series.

  49. TedSpe said, on June 7, 2011 at 10:33 pm

    Question mark

Vogelsong is getting more notice by the national media. Brad Evans doing the Roto fantasy arcade for Yahoo is another prognosticator who has jumped on the Lil Birdie’s bandwagon. Checking out sabermetrics and every other stat shoppe he can find Evans, in a rather long piece, seems convinced that our 33 Y.O. phenom is the real deal. Fun read. Encouraging.
