The Dragon Warrior Comes Through Again
I’ve run out of words to describe my man-love for Ryan Vogelsong. His ERA sits at 1.86. He’s 2 innings away from qualifying for being the league leader in ERA (Jurrgens is next at 2.11 followed by Tommy Hanson at 2.48). Trip on that, he’s more than half a run AHEAD of the dude in 3rd place. His stat lines actually remind me a lot of Billy Swift’s time spent here in SF (low ERA, low WHIP, low SO total)…..
No comment about the offense. Nice night for Whitey but when he’s the dude driving in your runs you are not going to win too many games. Way too many guys still not driving the ball…….
The Flap Fantasy Baseball Standings
(Pawlie dominates as I close in on him and The Bombers cut it to single digits on Dirt…)
Okay. That was weird. But…okay. Hoody hoo
That was pretty stupid of Panda. I think he missed him…
Yessssssssss!!
I count count at least 3/4 times he’s pulled that same shit. totally unacceptable from a major league ball player.
Bochy or somebody on that staff needs to teach him the RIGHT WAY to play.
That just defies logic. Make the easy throw to 1st or chase down the guy who is faster than you.
It’s like that show Cannon. The 400 lb. PI would always chase down the coked out junkie who weighed 250 lb less than him.
Throw the damn ball!
William Conrad always found an alleyway short cut
When he knew he had the right guy, he also used his gigantic car phone to call the cops for back up. The uniforms would get there just in time to see the whale body slam the crook into the pavement.
I’m stuck at work today, so I greatly appreciate all of the commentary here. Really gave me a sense of what it must be like down there among the drunks by the bullpen wall. I’m sure Pablo heard them, too.
How about you loook at the play before you smarm it up, skippy?
And I resent that remark about being drunk down by the bullpen wall.
I’d never be caught sitting down by the bullpen wall.
Now you really sound like one of those drunk assholes, chuck. Maybe your best writing, to date.
And I hope he scrapped his chin on that dive as well. Maybe teach him a lesson not to do that again.
He’s like a fucking little puppy. Rub his nose in it after he shits on the rug.
The most discouraging thing about the Giants lately was TImmy not pitching well. It’s the most primary thing about the Giants’ chances for success….Timmy pitching well. This is a huge lift for the team.
Early in French Connection, Gene Hackman manages to catch up to a heroin dealer who runs like Willie Davis in his prime.
In a Santa Claus suit yet
Yup!
“What are you in for?”
“Picking my toenails in Poughkipsie!”
2nd best car chase in a movie, BTW . . .
Steve McQueens in Bullit being the 1st!
Day baseball at ATT and a WIN! A very good day.
Timmy’s Back! Dennis, you beat me to the comment a couple innings early, but hey, 12 special K’s and shutting down a hard-charging team for 7 innings kinda reminds me of a guy they started calling The Freak. Lopez was his usual filthy self and the Drama Queen lets one loose but racks up his 21st S. Yes, this is called Giants baseball, eking out another one. 41-34 is halfway respectable and unless the Snakes play tonight it’s into a dead heat for First in the West.
Incredible pitching performances throughout the series. Bumgarner had incredibly good control and made for a near-perfect BP tosser, only getting an out from a Dink Hitter league pitcher. Mota may well have saved his longman space on the roster with his shutdown effort, the longest of his career, BTW. Vogelsong pitched like Greg Maddux again and Timmy matched him. The 7th and 8th inning guys were again lights out and our .38 Special provided that final inning drama but finally cemented both wins.
Miggie Tejada shows there is still a bit of petrol in the old tank and Cody comes through in the clutch one more time. Bill Hall earned his release upon the return of Fontenot by leaving no fewer than 4 RISP with two outs. Spose we gotta credit Sabean for attempting to catch lightning in a bottle.
Guess i should be a happy camper tonight. My #1 team won two and my #2 team took one, pretty much as i saw it coming into the series ~ though after that Oakland disaster and the first half inning of the Twins series things were looking pretty grim.
So next comes that enigmatic Cleveland team. Are the Indians for real, or did they simply peak a whole lot earlier than their potential carrying capacity? Guess we find out as they face Sanchez, Cain and Bumgarner.
My prediction: Bumgarner will improve on his last outing.
Way to go out on that limb, Stix!
I have no idea about Cleveland. I lost track of them when Matt Williams split . . .
Talk about 5 outs . . . How close was Cleve in that series?
Funny, stix
Funny thing is, I think Panda missed the tag.
Kind of looked that way from the angle they showed but fuck it.
Lincecum’s first couple of innings were strange — he threw a bunch of 4-seam FBs in a row, then a bunch of slider, and his pitch count got a bit high. But he obviously settled in, added the change up, and generally provided the sort of reassuring mid-season start we all wanted to see. Maybe it was those two dozen humongo burgers he ordered from the Daly City In-n-out yesterday.
Christ, you beat the Gome* thing into the ground endlessly. Now we have to hear about burger-gate again?
See that dead horse over there? Stop beating it . . .
hyuk . . .
You’re either confused or a liar, chuckfuck. I went at the juanpablopedro thing briefly, because I think TF has a valid point, but I dropped out of that game, while others carried on. As to burger gate, the issue has re-arisen briefly. Don’t make such a big deal about it. It’s just a way of asking indirectly a question everyone with any sense is thinking: What if anything has Lincecum done this time to get back on track?
Not knocking American League hitters. What I mean by that, hitters that don’t him as well
Pitched against Americab League hitters?
The old switcheroo, eh?
Or Tim’s worried about his job now that Zito’s making such an impressive comeback.
The name G***Z banned- definitely an internet landmark. Denny was the only one abusing it. Wouldn’t just telling him to knock it off suffice?
Actually more than a few regs used the term too often and I got several complaints over. I could have gone either way on banning it– just decided to. I’ll take the word off list when I get home tonight. So Dennis at al: try not to use the word, ok?
Two huge flaps up for the poster that goes by “mailorderbride”. She offered up her season tix for today’s gm and she totally came through. My buddy took his nephew, they were great seats and everyone had a blast. Mailorderbride, I salute you.
I promise to refrain unless the opportunity arises for an Addams Family joke.
Does mailorderbride post here?
She’s one of the best posters there.
Great to hear. Bride was a bit surprised by the tone on the flap, but I suspect she’ll be back. (I bet she’ll stand up for chuck over here just as gamely as she stands up for OSF on the splash.)
Bride knows good stuff when she sees it; she follows me on Twitter.
. . . with a shovel . . .
Well, then, Dennis, I bet she’ll also stand up for you over here just as gamely as she stands up for OSF on the splash.
Thanks, Flavor. While I originated the bit, it did get overdone. I saw Pawlie mention the overuse and then I suggested it be curtailed. I just thought banning the name was a bit much. BTW, signs of a real human being fron that Dodger troll who went went by “BarryForever” and several other names. Here was a post of his this morning on Bryan Stow:
“It would be great to see him in the courtroom when his attackers are sentenced to prison.”
That’s a nice sentiment. Sadly, it seems evidence against the guy they have in custody, for parole violations nothing to do with Stow, is a bit shaky, though. And the other two haven’t been caught yet. Even with the reward money offered. It’s a good sign that Stow is reacting to vocal stimuli. But it’s a long road ahead.
I see Barry Zito is giving Hector Sanchez rave reviews. Schulman seems to think Zito’s opinion might have an influence on the front office’s decision whether to bring him up or not
Barry Zito de facto GM? He causes enough troubles when he pitches. We don’t need him making FO decisions. Although, I think when we signed that guy the other day (Ramirez?) it was for him to play at Fresno when we call up Hector.
I only used the name as a term of affection. I won’t use it any longer. No biggie…
And I know I made a spelling error in my post but I can’t change it from my ph.
The Warriors just selected another G who can’t play a lick of D.
Bring back Nellie!
The guy’s not 6’2″, is he?
No, Klay Thompson is 6′ 7” from WSU. His dad, Mychael, played in the NBA. I dunno. I guess Warriors and big men just don’t mix.
Watching Ray Ratto on SportsNet Central.
I can actually *hear* him getting fatter
The pick makes total sense if they plan to move a guard, and they do.
Yeah, Ellis has to go. Still, I couldn’t believe it when I saw they picked another guard.
Are there words to describe how big of a dipshit Jim Riggleman is? This fool willingly leaves one of the most coveted jobs in the world over money? First off, he basically just said *fuck you* to every player on that team. He could give less than 2 shits about them. Riggs is all about “holla holla fo that dolla”. And THIS is the master plan he came up with? To quit? What’s his plan now? Head down to the unemployment line and see if they can help him find a manager job in MLB?
Fuck him. He was getting paid well to do a dream job. And miraculously he was actually pretty good at it. But what owner is going to want to hire a guy who has shown he’s “me first, team last”?
This kid, Jeremy Tyler, that the Ws just bought from Charlotte could be HUGE. He skipped his senior yr in HS to go play in Europe and subsequently Japan two years ago. This kid has some potential. He may never turn into a hill of beans, but this guy is a helluva lot more exciting than Klay Thompson.
The Warriors ended up with Tyler? As I posted the other day, I’ve seen him play in person several times down here. Gifted kid, not the greatest temperament— then again he was a junior in high school at the time. Worth a flyer for sure.
I’m sure it’s his last job.As usual, I suspect that there’s a bit more to it than what has come out. But you work that out behind closed doors.Flavor’s right, it’s what he’s done to his players that is inexcusable. These guys have had exactly one .500 season in DC ( the first year), they’re finally on the verge of some success and he pulls this? Wonder if he faces those players again?
if that’s how inflexible the dude is then he probably wasn’t going to keep the ears of his players for to long. I just can’t understand how you walk away from a job like that………
ps–I LOVE the Klay Thompson pick. Trade Ellis for something big and immovable and they might be on to something……..
If you’re a bobcats fan, how un-stoked are you that your team has sold their 2nd round pick. Again. I am leery of a dude who drops out of high school. I’m especially leery of them if they do that and they aren’t that good at basketball. He sucked in Israel for crying out loud. Sounds like a guy who doesn’t want to learn and wants everything handed to him. But he’s got that body! Chris Washburn had a body, too…….
Christ. Don’t remind me. He and Joe Barry Carrol are my all-time least favorite Warriors . . .
come on, JBC wasn’t even in the same ballpark as Washburn. One of my least favorite Warriors was Rony Seikely. I hated him so much I never bothered to learn how to spell his last name. I would watch that dude loaf up and down the court with some of the worst body language I’ve ever seen. He could have given less than 2 shits about playing basketball for the W’s. Fuck him……..
Googliotta was another dog . . .
JBC gets his due for the fact the Celtics got Chief and Kevin McHale and the Dubs got JBC . . .
this fucking team executed us. But she scored one of the 5 (out of 90 races) first place wins for her team. Yeah, I’m bragging, so what……
Yeah, i didn’t know the kid (Klay) was 6’7″ til I saw him hit the podium.
Timing helps, I just stumbled on the draft at pick 10 . . .
Riggleman walks? I can see Rodriguez in Fla hit the bricks. The team was in a tailspin that he couldn’t stop (or gave up on). The Nats are playing their best ball in years, they’ve won 11 of 12, and he splits over next year’s option? One the GM said before the season they’d deal with when it was over?
Just saw Timmeh at In N’ Out.
He was jus’ finishing #2 of two double doubles.
Said he ordered one for each of his two half dozen Ks today…
Burger is the next banned word . . .
Maybe you should tell the dumb shit he forgot them for a month..
He told me someone told him that some dipshit blowhard on a blog said they weren’t good for him, so he quit cold turkey for the helluvit to see what would happen, and instead of getting better, his pitching went to hell. Started eating them again after the last bad start, and “boom”, lights out today…
