A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Nearing Rock Bottom, Will Dirrrrty Head to the Bullpen?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 25, 2011

I know it won’t happen right away since they need him to pitch in one of the extra games added next week, but Bochy made it clear that Zito replacing Sanchez in the rotation would be a distinct possibility. It actually seems like a no-brainer to me. Dirrrrty has been awful this year. When you lead the league in walks allowed there’s really no way you’re going to be able to pitch deep into a game consistently. He’s wearing on the bullpen and the defense who has to stand out there motionless as he continues to offer free passes to the hitters. Ironically, he’s been a lot like Zito–a guy who you hold your breath with every time he takes the mound….

But there is precedent for some hope right now. Someone here will correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Dirrrrrty turn his 2009 season around when it was at it’s lowest? I can’t remember if he was yanked from the rotation or if he had just been pitching poorly, but his no-hitter v the Padres was a turning point for him in his career. He might have had a good start before that, too. I’ll let you all remind me of the details…..

But right now feels a lot like it did back then—-he was at his lowest and then……boom. He took off like a rocket ship……

Watching Jonathan’s body language, it’s obvious that he’s got a lot going on in his head. Honestly, he never really looks happy to me. I’m sure he’s spending all his emotional energy on trying to figure this out. It’s just not happening for him right now. But I do believe in him and I have faith that he will rebound in a way similar to the way he did in the Summer of 2009. One of my favorite blog moments of that season was immediately after the no-hitter when Mr DJ Loo re-posted a collection of posts that many of us had recently made about Dirrrrty–obviously all negative.

All I know for certain is that Zito is coming back. He will be returning to games with his usual inglorious aura of negativity and failure. Hopefully, it will last just long enough for Jonathan to get his confidence back. Be careful what you write about him during this down time in his career–it will come back to haunt you later. 🙂

Cain and Wilson have their All-Star ticket. Maybe Timmy too, and maybe Vogelsong, and maybe Romo.

    • zumie said, on June 25, 2011 at 3:44 pm

Do it Bochy! Take all five!

      • Del Mar Dennis said, on June 25, 2011 at 3:59 pm

Just a guess, but because Bochy knows the likelihood of Timmy making it in the future again (on more than one occasion) is odds-on, I think he leaves him off and goes…Horse, Song, BW, Romo and LOOGY. That’s five. Six would be pressing it, and I don’t think Song, Romo or our LOOGY will ever get a shot again.
Those are my 5 and I’m sticking to it. Wanna trade Sanchez for Reyes?

I realize I might have been harsh on the doomers and Room B residents and I’m as frustrated with the hitting as you guys are. This should meet your requirements, how about this: if they score 3 or less and still win, we won’t count it..
Flavor is up with today’s POTG: Santiago Casilla. Yeah, yeah, you nitpickers will say he didn’t even pitch. But Craig figgers that his performance last night inspired Lopez or they would have lost “by many runs”…

    • eddacker said, on June 25, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Hey, if people think your normal call of any game is harsh. Don’t let ’em see your A game harsh; they couldn’t handle the truth.
      Peace, out

Frustration mounts where the Cuyahoga River meets Lake Erie. Cleveland mouths got to watering a couple times during the game, last occasion being when they got a first up single against Lopez and second batter sacrificed him to second. Two outs later and the story became one little Sipp away from victory. Wilson must have a hot Saturday nite date going. No 9th inning drama.

Things tend to happen around McCovey Cove, a place now suspected back in the AL Central as being under the aegis of Carlos Santana’s Black Magic Woman. Unfortunately for the Indians, its the original Carlos Santana, not another of their error-prone infielders.

Giant Bummer in game One against the Twins ~ first inning only. Since then, the Magical Mystery Tour, to mangle musical metaphors, has been a trip to the bottom of the rabbit hole for the guys from the Midwest as they learn firsthand about the NL West and the pitching staff of the reigning World Champions.

Tomorrow, Cleveland gets showcased on Sunday night baseball, with Fausto Carmona, sporting an ERA just a tad not as high as the Twin Towers of the 911 inside job happened to be; facing off against modern day ML record-setting Madison Bumgarner who started off the MM-Tour with a First inning teaser which got all those hopes soaring. Facing Carmona in Cleveland, the Giants would tee off like Earp and Holliday at the OK Corral. Playing by the Bay it may well end up at something like 3-1 SF.

    • eddacker said, on June 25, 2011 at 4:30 pm

I can see. But Cleveland is a long way from the OK corral (AZ)
Like BF said, Indians are welcome in SF, just not with a winning series, or any wins at all. But they can take a deep breath of fresh air.

Verlander pitching against the D-Backs. Cool.

  5. twinfan1 said, on June 25, 2011 at 4:22 pm

I know some will consider his walk as just another “glitzy stat” but Andres’ walk sent the runner to thrd where he could score on the balk. that widdle walk was AB of the game.

    Summer’s upon us
Giant’s baseball — here to stay
    Score some goddamn runs

  7. eddacker said, on June 25, 2011 at 4:38 pm

BTW, back at the movie, Doomer Denny gets serious and takes on the whole world. Twin, in-between cavorting
with the ladies, starts to see a riff in the doomer mentality. Maybe the Giants are the exception to the rule? maybe we all need to ‘just get along’.
Will love for the local team count?
can baseball ever just ‘be a game?’
    (never with those lineups, amen)

  8. eddacker said, on June 25, 2011 at 4:46 pm

One last time, if I take the larger view,
without believing that people (management, GM, Bochy, scouts) care as much about this team moving forward as every fan does, I have nothing left except to watch my team play.
But with the larger view I see, somehow, this team is big league and big enough to make us all proud.

  9. eddacker said, on June 25, 2011 at 4:50 pm

And as the movie ends, Doomer shows he is the same fan as us all, Twin, the winner, takes the high road and reminds all of the doomer denizens, Baseball is a team sport played over a whole summer. Almost into next year. and with a final one finger salute says:
    FUCK YOU BOZO

  10. Rough Trade said, on June 25, 2011 at 5:12 pm

They just win baby! Happy for Cain. He’s lost enough of these types.

Yeah, Torres battled to get that walk. With Burris on deck, they probably weren’t giving in. NS with a couple of good rips could have been the POTG if he hadn’t tripped.

  11. twinfan1 said, on June 25, 2011 at 5:50 pm

Well, it was an excellent fall, RT. I can definitely see Flavor and Snarkk huddling and giving Nate that coveted “Casilla Award”

Just saying hi to Flapper Nation. Been traveling. SYR to DC to PHIL to Stamford, CT…all since Thursday. Tomorrow back to SYR. Haven’t even set my FL lineups; have had balky or no Internet. And just getting YESTERDAY’S scores and news. I suspect Sanchez’s arm is not really injured? Great sports radio in DC while driving into and out of the District — crazy stuff about Riggleman from Steve Czayban et al. Go, Giants.

After having watched Zito continue to confound and fuck up for the last few years, the idea that he is an acceptable replacement for anyone is hard to imagine. He has not won a game in forever outside the minor leagues. If you trade sanchez, that’s who you get every 5th day. No thanks, dennis.
Jose Reyes is having an mvp season, no question. but if he walks to greener (as in $$$) pastures after this season, you still have the same issues at SS, and now you are down a legit starter. Yes, I do think JS is a legit starter; he is still capable of winning games, this season and beyond. He is struggling, sure, but rarely hittable, and I would trust righetti etc. to be able to fix that or at least tone down his weaknesses, which might have something to do with the uncertain catching position. Zito is irretrievable, and wheeler is an unknown.

  14. dirtnrocksnreno said, on June 25, 2011 at 6:07 pm

Fantasy Leagues are perking up at the news of Zito making his triumphant return to The Show. He just might break 5% owned.

  15. Bozo said, on June 25, 2011 at 6:19 pm

First, don’t trade any pitching. DMD, no to your question (Reyes isn’t worth it). By the by, we don’t need a fucking bat to fuck with this chemistry, this team will still win, Clawing and scratching, this is YOUR WORLD CHAMPION SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS and this is how we play.
    Fuck all y’all, WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

  16. Rough Trade said, on June 25, 2011 at 6:30 pm

Verlander Tigers up 6-0. Verlander w/ 14k’s. Fortunately for the G’s, they arrive in Motown on Fri and his next start should be thurs.

  17. twinfan1 said, on June 25, 2011 at 6:33 pm

They hit .235 in last years posteason.
    . Atlanta hit .175, Philly .215 Texas .190

    • Bozo said, on June 25, 2011 at 7:03 pm

Yup, that’s all they have to do. Be a little bit better than the other guys, that’s it.

    • Del Mar Dennis said, on June 25, 2011 at 7:19 pm

Twin, would would trade Sanchez for Reyes?

I don’t think I’ve seen you dismiss the idea, so I’ll put you down as a “YES.”

Dirrrty just hit the DL. I guess that’s one way to deal with this. Let ’em get a load of a couple Zito starts. He’ll be welcomed off the DL with open arms…….

  22. twinfan1 said, on June 25, 2011 at 7:39 pm

Wrongo bongo. You think I’ve just been mocking Room B all these years-I’ve been learnng, always learning. I’d give them Zito, Miggy, and Rowand. I’m sure theyd go for it

if you look at that list Zumie posted about the Cubs salaries it’s really tough to find where you draw the line on when you find a salary that one of those guys are worth………

    • willieD said, on June 25, 2011 at 8:30 pm

supposedly the cubs are in salary dumping mode, but other than castro and soto (who aren’t going anywhere I would imagine) I wouldn’t take any of them.

  24. SanDawg said, on June 25, 2011 at 7:49 pm

..no speed golf Flav. I did get matched up with a Asian couple that moved pretty quickly though. Didn’t suck at all that the woman was wearing the shit out of her golf outfit.
