Ready to Steamroll the Astros

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 25, 2011

My friend Luke hates it when I predict a win on the blog. Says I’m always wrong. Says it’s a jinx. Ok Team Lukie, I won’t predict a single win. But I will predict a 4 game sweep of the Astros. At a minimum I guarantee 3 of 4 but I think a sweep is likely….

Question for you: Would you trade Dirrrrrty Sanchez for Heath Bell? You get Bell for Sept and the playoff run. Since I think Wilson is done for the year I think you almost have to try to make this trade happen. The Padres would do it, I think. Dirrrrty is usually tough on them. No hit tough. They probably over value him because of that game. If you give ’em Dirrrrty you wouldn’t have to give up 2 prospects, something Pads will look for since they get 2 picks for him when he leaves this Winter. I think Dirrrrty has at least one more and maybe 2 years of arbitration left……

Not too shabby. But I don’t like her dress color. With her skin tone I woulda went a forest green or maybe even a maroon.

      • stixwiz said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:27 pm

Dennis! Your new career. Couturier to the wives of MLB players. There are some queens who are already playing that game, some of them pretty jealous types. So you better be ready to fend off their flak. Don’t try to meet them verbally. That could get nasty. Just pretend you’re back in junior high days and make em cower.

    • blade3colorado said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Mark Melancon is a catcher, right? His wife is . . . umm, a very . . . uhh, handsome woman.

      • Macdog said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:37 pm

He’s the closer. I noticed Mr. and Mrs. Brett Myers weren’t part of the Gala.

  3. stixwiz said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Is this futility ever gonna end? I mean these guys are facing Henry Sosa fer cryin out loud.

  4. snarkk said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:33 pm

I am beyond tired of Huff’s atrocious ABs, like the first two tonight. The next one I want a hit, or he goes to at least a 2-2 count, make it interesting. He’s so bad, they might as well just forfeit his ABs into outs, save his energy for fielding popups…
    .

  5. big flavor said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Huff’s at bat was really bad, refusing to even take a pitch. Cody is swung right through a hittable fastball and that was before he swung at 2 sliders that were balls. This is just, man, tough.

    • snarkk said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:38 pm

At this rate, I’ll say it, could Brett Pill be worse? WTF not? Huff just flat suxxx…

  6. big flavor said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:41 pm

not taking a pitch there after the easy Sandoval walk = bad. And he looked dis(un)whatfuckingever-interested……

  7. big flavor said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:42 pm

it’s just obvious that this team misses Uribe, Burrell, Posey, Franchez, and last year’s Huff and Torres. That’s some amazing firepower to lose…….

    • blade3colorado said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:45 pm

I had to re-read what you wrote 3-4 times. Come again? Amazing fire power? Be honest . . . were you being sarcastic?

    • blade3colorado said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:46 pm

      Or “tongue in cheek?”

  8. snarkk said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:47 pm

And Belt is down in 7, Huff in 5. WTF is that? Belt just got through hitting the snot out of the ball in Houston, he’s hitting 7th? Sheezus….

    • Nipper said, on August 25, 2011 at 9:51 pm

      Sheezus?

  9. big flavor said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:48 pm

go look at the HR’s we hit the last 2 months last year. I think we were close to leading the NL after the all star break. And when you compare it to this putrid group, it WAS amazing. We hit lots of bombs last year in Sept Blade, look it up……..

  10. paulinasia said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:48 pm

Agree, Craig. Some players (and coaches) comment that this is the same bunch that won it all last year, so they know how to do it again this year… but actually, with those key players gone or injured, and the ones who were here last year who still are here (mostly Huff and Ross) just not getting it done, it’s a very different team on offense/defense. Well, they’ve got about 5 or 6 weeks to “gel”… happened last September, hoping it happens again. Not sure what’s up with Huff, but the team has really needed him to step it up with all the missing pieces, and he just doesn’t “look” like he can. So someone else must… I think someone else “will”…

  11. snarkk said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:54 pm

‘Stros 4 for 4 on steals tonite. Whiteside is a like a damn rail crossing guard. Slow to get up and down. And Vogie ain’t holdin’ them on any too well, either…

    • Macdog said, on August 25, 2011 at 8:57 pm

My Flap team could use some steals, I should just pick up the entire Astros lineup for the weekend.

      • blade3colorado said, on August 25, 2011 at 9:03 pm

Ditto for me too. I lead the Flap league in steals once . . . Once!

    • snarkk said, on August 25, 2011 at 9:03 pm

Henry fuckin’ Sosa – 1 run through six?.
Did the Giants hitters get the scouting report on him? They only had him in their system for 8 years.
      Gawd, this offense is suckage.

  13. twinfan1 said, on August 25, 2011 at 9:08 pm

Different group, different division as well. They hit like shit but they’re closer than they were last year, 4.5 closer pending tonight’s outcome.

  14. willieD said, on August 25, 2011 at 9:11 pm

Schaefer isn’t much of a stick, let alone a power guy. That one hurt. vogs has pitched a good game, but hanging one with two outs and two strikes is a big mistake, and he paid for it.

  15. snarkk said, on August 25, 2011 at 9:12 pm

Huff is just, just,.. a left handed Gamer.
I can hardly wait for callups.

Song and the pen need to keep it within an earshot here in the 8th. As ludicrous as it sounds, a two-run deficit is doable, even with our anemic group. I have still have the faith, but goddamn. Doubting Denny might need to see a miracle or two performed to renew it.

“Open Arms” was my first girlfriend’s and my “song.” But I didn’t really care for Journey. She made go see them and others at one of those “Day on the Green” things at the Coliseum. I wish I had spent that Saturday at the track…

They were much cooler *before* that Open Arms era. Of course, odds of getting laid after the track were probably somewhat less than after the DOTG show.

  25. twinfan1 said, on August 25, 2011 at 9:48 pm

Flavor was surprised at the vote, and rightfully so. There was very little sentiment here for trading Sanchez for Bell, and plenty against it. The tally is skewed by either multiple votes or lurkers looking to skew it.

Jesus H. Christ. If we can’t beat Houston, we sure in the hell don’t deserve to play Atlanta in the NLDS.

  28. twinfan1 said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:01 pm

A lot of the sentiment for trading anyfuckingbody for Bell is the presumption by the Flap’s crack medical staff that Wilson is done. Might be, but no one here has the slightest clue whether he is or not. Consummating a deal probably means Wilson *is* done, but the pen is deep enough to absorb the loss without making a panic deal.

  29. Nipper said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:02 pm

Oh well…… Perhaps some offense tomorrow. Can hope.

  30. EdGdsnInExile said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:07 pm

I’m hoping Torres is ready to go after this weekend as I thought I’ve read. Even if he hits .220 the rest of the way, his ABs never seem pathetic. Play him every day, play Belt every day. Huff gets some days off, Ross gets even more.

  31. EdGdsnInExile said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:09 pm

And I hope Burrell gets back for at least a few PH opportunities, even if its September. He might still hit a big fly. Right now, our offerings are lame.

I think Sabean is done dealing, and if so I don’t blame him. He tried…

  33. eddacker said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:24 pm

shitty news to wake up to, guess I better start losing some sleep, my team needs me.
    Go Gigantes!

  34. twinfan1 said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Accounting for his brilliant defense, speed, enthusiasm… Torres has always been the best choice leading off and playing CF. And sorry, by Wins Over Replacement, he is STILL second on the team as per FanGraphs, 3rd as per BP( behind Pablo and Grok on BP, just Pablo on FG). You may contact FanGraphs and Baseball Prospectus if you have a beef, Don’t annoy me with it.

    • EdGdsnInExile said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:39 pm

He’s a multidimensional player and often improves with each AB in a game. I don’t want him to be burdened, but my remaining hopes for the team lie with Vungo (and secondarily, for Belt to step up)!

      • twinfan1 said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:57 pm

Vungo was an asset even not hitting. Miller noted MANY times how he created runs by himself, and no one else does that. And even though Ross and Rowand are competent CFers, they don’t begin to approach Andres’ brilliance. Amazing that we have dorkins wanting Crawford for defense and sptting on Torres despite his defense…

      • EdGdsnInExile said, on August 25, 2011 at 11:37 pm

Indeed. And with Panda, he’s the team’s heart and soul, inspires those around him.

  35. ewisco said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:32 pm

all right lads. that surely sucked. but it’s still august. you can make up 3 games in a week. it’s not that they can’t hit, they just aren’t hitting right now (ok, maybe it’s “yet”). once again, you want to get into the post season on a roll, not having won it by early/mid september and cruising into october. doesn’t make it fun to watch when they suck though.

  36. DJLoo said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:37 pm

Anyone pinning they’re hopes to getting big Septembers from guys having dreadful seasons (and there’s easily 10 of ’em), when has that ever happened?

  37. TedSpe said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:41 pm

Okay, gentlmen (question mark). Let’s get down to the elephant in the room. The poll.
Votes are usually anonymous. But I’ll tell mine. I voted YEA for trading JSanchez for Bell. Why?
Bell’s a good closer and Wilson’s probably out this year. And the Giants need a good closer for the playoffs. Romo, my 2011 favorite, may be able to pull it off but to get insurance, why not?
twin and chuck have pulled out a ton of stats defending their opinions. And on one point, twin is absolutely fucking right. JSanchez is NOT a fucking head case. What he is is frustrated by knowing he’s got the stuff and every little tiny fucking minor bad tweak seems to fuck him. But bottom line? With me?
Simple. He’s got talents but he’s a bad pitcher. He’s just overall… a bad pitcher. Come back that he had a no hitter once? That’s like saying Stewart’s first home run was a grand salami. Lovely. What have you done for me lately? Last year, JSanchez had a lot of great games and he was a true reason the Giants got to the World Series. But he’s inconsistent and untrustworthy. To do well in the playoffs…I’d trade him in a second. Only now..who’d take him? Injured. Inconsistent.
The Giants will still take the West. But Lincecum and Cain are the only stud starters. Vogelsong’s a weird anomoly. God I hope he knows this is it. The pen, however, is the best in the fucking planet. I love every one of them and without them, we wouldn’t even be in this thing. And when the Giants *do* take the West, if Bochy doesn’t get
another manager of the year award…there is no God.
Okay. I’m through. I love you guys and I love the Giants. And they’ll still take the West
    goodnight, gentlemen (?)

    • twinfan1 said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:49 pm

I don’t think I’ve ever brought up the no hitter., that’s usually done as a bizarre way to trash him..
You have every right to your opinion on trading Dirty, that goes without saying. But I can thank God it ain’t happening.
      Uh, I hope,,.

    • TedSpe said, on August 25, 2011 at 11:00 pm

You’re right. You were never cheap enough to bring up the no hitter. I didn’t bring it up to be a critic towards you. I just brought it up so no other asshole would try to be a punk bitch. Not you.

  38. twinfan1 said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:42 pm

Last year they were 13th in pitching this month, 8th in runs scored (NL). They were 6.5 behind on this date. There was no talk of magic, the same perps bitched endlessly, as now.
Obviously they’ll need the pitching to hold, and they’ll need something from Beltran, a big month from Belt, and a spark from Torres. That will be enough added to MVP Sandoval’s usual production.

  39. Del Mar Dennis said, on August 25, 2011 at 10:49 pm

We’re DEAD GODDAMN LAST in runs scored. Something like 42 runs less than the 15th placed team, the Dodgers. I’ve tried searching for the answer but have been unsuccessful. Has a team that finished last in runs scored ever won its division? I dunno. But I can tell ya this, they didn’t deserve it, and neither will we.

Our offense is historically bad and embarrassing. We don’t deserve to win.

    • Nipper said, on August 25, 2011 at 11:16 pm

  40. twinfan1 said, on August 25, 2011 at 11:18 pm

I think I read that at their current pace, should they win the pennant, they would have the fewest runs scored by any pennant winner ever. I’d say that makes it worth rooting for.
Sort of like the solo HR record. ..now every failure by Huff, every start for Rowand, every AB for Whitey— moves us closer to the record..and the last shall be first , and the first last..

So, with the Hughes, now over 6.00, the pickings for the playoff rotation are CC; rookie Nova; just off the DL Freddy Garcia; AJ ‘am I fighting Girardi today’ Burnett; and reclamation project Bartolo Colon…

Dennis: this “we deserve this/that”. It’s idiotic. It’s like talking about a jinx. You dont win or lose in sports because you “deserve” something. That entire notion is something you brought in from therapy from your personal life, it has nothing to do with real life especially as it relates to sports. So stuff if. You’re strattling a narrow line right now. You aren’t directly rooting against the giants but you are awfully close. And I’m not gonna tolerate someone shit talking for shit talking sake. Either get on board with a new mantra or hit “the links” I don’t want bloggers here saying the same negative shit just to see their shit stink on the internet. Being a fan of this team is supposed to be something that entertains you. If it doesn’t, don’t subject the rest of us to your constant, unending angst….

Maybe it’s true. The giants leaked Dusty’s IRS problems to make themselves look better. Maybe Lenny has a case after all?

We won’t win. Lets face it. The hitters that we have are not going to magically hit in the last month. We have lost 3/4 to lowly astros, and zero runs in 10 lincecum and 9 cain starts. That will not change.
