Missing that *Magic* Feeling
I think we are right around the 1 year anniversary of that 4-bomb miracle game vs LA. What a game that was. What a time that was. I didn’t get around to doing a new thread yesterday because I was busy but I think it also had a little to do with not wanting to think about the *reality* of where we are this year. Even though it’s only been a year, I forgot how underwhelming it can be to watch my team turn to “playing the kids”, especially when the kids we have up here are, in my opinion, not part of the core future of this club. I know we didn’t do that yesterday. It’s more of a mind set for teams that are out of it. And right now we are on the outskirts of the periphery of being *in* it……
Last September (and October), every day was filled with so much excitement and anticipation. I’m not just talking about the team, I’m talking about how it affected my daily life. Every morning I was getting out of bed, actually it was more like bouncing out of bed, driven by a fire I can’t remember ever feeling before. And for roughly 2 months, it permeated my life. If there were 6 people in line at the grocery store there’s a good bet that at least 3 of them would be sporting newly grown beards. Everywhere I went people wanted to talk about the Giants and every conversation was filled with energy and positivity. It was a trip, I was living in a world that was all-Giants all the time. The only world I’d ever known like that was at The Flap. And it had now become a part of my 3-D life. It was awesome.
Obviously, this September is a different September. It just feels kind of dead to me. Last year as the season passed into Fall I swear to God the trees at my house turned orange AND black. This year, it’ll just be the regular Fall colors. And I’m not *giving up on my team* or any of that nonsense. I will continue to carry with me a low grade level of hope until we are mathematically eliminated…..
But yesterday I was trying to figure out why I wasn’t that motivated to watch the game and why I didn’t go out of my way to put up a new thread. And then I figured out why. It might have had a little to do with a mild hangover of losing Sunday’s game but it didn’t have anything to do with effectively being out of the race. It had to do with missing that unreal feeling from last year. And my way of dealing with not getting to feel it was to put the game and the team out of my mind….
Nothing about this realization changes much for me. I still miss that feeling. I’ve gone through countless September’s that didn’t matter. Unfortunately, when you go through one like 2010 you never want to go through anything other than that ever again. I guess that’s the one main fall out from too much b-a-s-k-i-n-g….
But that 4-Bomb Miracle game, man, that was some game wasn’t it?
Sandy,
Appreciate your comments earlier. Say hi to Fred Wilpon, your fellow alumnus from Lafayette High.
I’m too nervous to watch “watch” this game; following online. I thought I’d be able to keep baseball as a low-grade background white noise thing. Can’t. Now I’m going crazy over THIS game, but too nervous to Kostaz it. Then I won’t sleep and my daughter will be late for day 1 of school. Life is complicated.
Remember how the media gave us no respect last year until, well, they had to? This year, um, honestly, um, DETROIT wins the Rodney Dangerfield Award. No one talks about them, and they are pulling games out of the hat left and right.
Probably because Detroit can’t decide if it’s a city or farmland (I understand Mayor Bing is razing all property on the perimeter of the city and making the empty lots into farm coops . . . Did someone say socialism?).
But Deputy Mayor Bob is on the golf course saying “But I wanna tell ya…”
uhm…safe
dande est el bano
Now that I know what it means, definitely. Thanks Ted. Oh, can you pass me the TP?
Beltran is stating his case for sticking around another year.
Fuck Beltran. Too little too late. Go eat another bucket of wings…
is that a rumor, or did he really say that’s how he got sick?
Krukow said ON THE AIR that he was eating Hooters wings with Beltran at 1;30 A. M.
And I know this is an outrageous assumption, but they might have had a couple beverages also.
ouch. He’s won me over for anticipation for September. We can still tak this fucker
Even lately? He was half the offense in the AZ series, a 4-4, 3-3 … 3-3 tonight, showing some hustle. On a non-hitting team.
Romo! Can I market this shirt? “I’m homo for Romo!”
In San Francisco? Probably already taken
Ha! Absolutely
I’m sure you guys know what Mays did 50 years ago the day after getting sick from ribs…
Indeed I do. In Milwaukee, correct?
Yep.
“From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” Hooters, chicken wings — who knows, maybe we can get a deal?
Let’s get a Prudential run or two.
This season is only about Philly, Yankees, and Boston.
Last year it was only about Philly, Yankees, and Rays.
The WS last year:Texas- SF
This year: ?
Whoever gets the most walks 😉
Huh. Sandoval’s gets a pinch hit right handed when it’s (its’, its,’it’s) supposed to be the reason he didn’t start tonight? Methinks…IT AIN’T OVER TILL ROSIE O’DONNEL SINGS!!!
(badly)
Is it just me or does Sandoval’s fro look like he’s ready to sing backup with Ziggy Marley?
Let beltran hit
Looks like Crabman . . .
Awright, a Christian sacrifice.
Rock ‘n roll my Giants compodres!!!
Dande esta el bano????
Both of last years pen pick ups have struggled of late.
Donde, isn’t it?
Dos mas cervesas, por favor . . .
Castilla on the other hand has been pretty tough . . .
Uh, nevermind.
Shit, thought that was a no-doubter.
Castilla better not get scared of the strike zone.
It’s Casilla.
Does anyone teach baserunning anymore?
This is getting out of hand, folks . . .
nothing like a laugher in san diego.
oh. wait.
Oh Lord. . . ..
Now what?
I’d hit the next goddamn batter in the ass, then subsequently punch him in the goddamn throat as the brawl ensued just to get momentum back on our side.
You[ve got to be fucking kiddding me . . .
Man, when it’s time for a change … SPEEDEE, like pronto. Rápidamente, even.
Just read the post of the day.No pics of Dee Dee?
Just you ugly mugs?
Casilla semed to be over that. This is scary, they can’t fail to gain a game.. that closer position is sure overrated.
Wildman vs Jesus. More drama than the Drama Queen, even.
Ballgame
C YA! SAN DIEGO!!
Read in Leah Garchik’s column today, the difference with “torture” this year and last is the difference between a sexy domintatrix and Guantamono
Phew!!!
That was “eavesdropped,” by some faggot leaving the yard after a good game. Leah’s a lot tougher.
Granted
I’d hit the next batter just to say I hit the goddamn trifecta…
and once again, my ticket comes up one horse short.
Oh well, I’m plunking the Padres leadoff hitter tomorrow just for good measure…
They blow this, it’ll be hard to come back from . . .
Nevermind.
Ballgame . . .
There we go.
Struck him out on a hanger..
Whew! and congrats E. Sir Kampy!
First series win in 3+ weeks.
Ramirez got away with a couple as did Romo…
If pitchers didn’t away with a few, everybody would hit .400..
Hmmm. Pill clocks an HR his first AB. We all know he’s hitting in the average-inflated PCL and his hitting stats down there are darn near meaningless, as per Sabes, but what say we let him play again just for the helluvit? Nice win. Looks like Beltran’s wrist is getting right…
Everyone knows hitting numbers are inflated in the PCL, not just Sabean.Check Cody Ransom’s numbers.
Nice win. And I apologize to the Panda for forgetting his 2009 season totals. They had faded from my memory with pretty much the entire 2009 season.
Anybody putting money on Pill starting again tomorrow? I’d guess no
Sockcucking Arizona lost as well
The division is still the Giants (‘s;s’;s’s) to lose.
ASIAN PORN!!! ON THE HOUSE!!!!
Goodnight gentlemen, (question mark)
Pill might get another start in a few days. Can’t get too excited about a lil’ ‘ol 2 run dinger on this power laden squad…
You’re right I think, a few days.Maybe a couple weeks.
Whew! The potential meetup of Jesus and the Wildman didn’t happen. Cooler head prevailed as Bochy had seen enough and Ramirez was good for the special K. Though Surkamp fell an inning short of getting one of those official “quality starts”, he walked only one guy and waded his way through those five innings. He must feel pretty good getting his first ML win and the probable shot at another start. This is hardly the Eastern League, but he earns a solid B and maybe a B+. Another young pitching callup, Steve Edlefsen, acquitted himself well tonight and has also earned consideration for a future role in The Show. Romo got the job done and so did Affeldt. Bochy seems uncomfortable using Lopez in much other than the loogie role. Casilla is electric when he’s on, but he does have a habit of shorting out once in awhile.
The 27 and 31 Y.O. ‘kids’, Pill and Christian, also earned more playing time. Both those guys are extremely hungry and are guaranteed not to dog it, even though the butterflies will flutter by as they get their big chance. Wondering whether Pill is still on this planet after tying that ML record with his first AB dinger. Even if he never sticks in the big time, he made history tonight and it will be a lifetime good feelings memory. Beltran seems more and more confident as a Giant. Wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Bowtie and Sabean give him some long consideration if he keeps up his current sizzling pace. If i were in the position of proffering a contract to him, it would be a fattie for one year with a team-option second year loaded with hefty achievement bonuses. His agent doesn’t go for it? Tough shittskies. Bad contracts have bedeviled this organization and the ownership and general manager need to think strategically on this one and on other possible deals.
Giants may not need to go all ga-ga in the Free Agent scramble. Maybe some of these guys coming through the pipeline will make a good showing in those last 20 games. After tonight with Colorado’s huge rally, we are back to 6 out and perhaps Arizona is just a tad snakebit. Dylan Hernandez proved quite vulnerable in his prime relief role tonight. Their BP is hardly golden.
Matt the Horse tomorrow. A sweep, long overdue, would be totally sweet.
Somebody wil pay Beltran something like 15-18 milion per for 4-5 years.Just hope it isn’t Sabean. He’s gimpy already.
Pill played some second base.. well, it was written that he *tried* to play second. That’s out. I’d think it’s Beltran, Christian, and Belt or Ross OF. I wouldn’t mind Pill starting tomorrow,, but I think he’ll get his next start against the next lefty. I think Huff will start tomorrow…
Didn’t Stanford win 57-3? It seems a mite rude to be bitching about how they weren’t at their best… Shaw went on and on..
Did you see those Maryland uniforms? Yikes.
good night. one game at a time. pleasant dreams.
Pawlie, I got the CD but cracked it. I have a lot of accidents, Don’t send another but I appreciate it. Sleep well.
Craig,
I was at that game in LA. Awesome feeling. Me and a long time Giants fan were being verbally abused by two very large drunkin idiots the whole game. Winning that game was the best “get out of my face asshole” moment I have ever had at Dodger stadium, and I’ve likely been to 50 + SF games there. Priceless!
Watching the AAA talent in September isn’t fun but it proves that you’re a true fan. So if this is you, go ahead and pat yourself on the back. Go ahead and get familiar with future stars.
