A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Another Vote

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on February 10, 2012

Just took a look at the poll from yesterday, the only player to NOT get a vote was Angel. So, either no one knows who he is or everyone has ultimate confidence in him. Let’s do another poll with the same criteria from yesterday but going the other way. Of the 10 listed, what is the MOST LIKELY to happen. Freddy edged out Zits for LEAST LIKELY to happen….

Let’s see if the inverse response is in effect…….

7 days till pitchers and catchers report. One week. Me likey…….

Retro Game of the Day!!!!!!!

It’s Sunday, August 16th, 1987 and 52,374 showed up for this epic game vs the Dodgers. LaCoss vs Welch. This one was still 0-0 going to the 10th and LaCoss came out and retired the side for his 10th inning of the game. Robby came up to start the 10th and struck out looking. Uribe grounded out and it looked like we would be going to the 11th. Chili pinch hits for LaCoss who must have been doing a slow burn in the dugout. He singles. Eddie Milner comes up and doubles to left. Chili beats the throw home and the Giants win 1-0. LaCoss gets the win. Insanity ensues…..

I’d say Posey catching 100. Once he gets in the groove, bochy will have a hard time moving him out of the LU or over to 1b, which I still think is a dumb idea. He’d also get some grief from the SPs, who have to be thrilled he’s behind the plate after all those games with whitey last season. Not to mention the boost for the offense.
Wasn’t T-bone Shelby (who was having a terrible year) the guy Eck walked before Gibson blast?

And it will just be a big morale boost, in general, for the Giants to have Posey back behind the plate. It’s the single most anticipated thing, I think, overall, for everyone involved with Giants baseball. We were cheated out of seeing him play ball for so much of last season. We all are excited about seeing him back. It will be big lift for everyone.

        “a” big lift

I think it was Mike Davis, who totally sucked by that point in his career.

After some deep pondering I must come to the conclusion that it’s what it is……

Has the Nobel committee been in touch?

Reminds me of Omar in “the Wire”… “I keep one in the chamber, in case you’re pondering.”

Posey getting a 100 games is a lock unless he were to get injured again.

Of course all teams have “ifs” or questions entering the season. Even things that look good on paper don’t always turn out well ie: pricey FA’s. This yr, Marlin fans are wondering if Reyes will make it through a season, if Hanley will rebound, if Buerhle will repeat last yr’s numbers, if Josh Johnson can come back as good as ever and if Zambrano can keep his cool.

Giants had plenty of “ifs” in 2010 when they entered the year with Rowand Bowker DeRosa (coming off injury) in the OF, an aging C, no 2b, a ? at 1b, an aging SS, Wellenmeyer AND Zito in the rotation and Medders, Runzler and Bautista in the pen.

Last yr, it was Tejada, Pablo’s weight, Huff, Ross, Burrell and Torres repeating 2010. Nate was a ?, Belt was a ?, as were Sanchez and Zito. There were even questions concerning the entire pitching staff throwing so many innings.

It’s possible I was at the retro game. I went to many Giant/Dodger games in the ’80s and ’90s at the Stick, with the 50,000+ crowds.

What is the MOST LIKELY to happen? That I write something stupid on the flap. 100% guaranteed.

There is an article in the Chronicle about Wilson and his rehab. Maybe you should at him to the list

  8. unca_chuck said, on February 10, 2012 at 11:58 am

Well, it certainly sounds like he’s coming along fine. We won;t really know for a few weeks, but it sure seems to be an issue going forward.

Out of surgery. I will try again tomorrow.

There should be no doubt about it, actually–the event least likely to happen is Zito keeping his 5th spot. Not sure who will fill in to replace him, but it obviously won’t be Oswalt like a certain doomer/concern troll mangina on the Splash likes to keep harping on about.

  12. PawlieKokonuts said, on February 10, 2012 at 6:10 pm

The B Wilson story is disconcerting. Reading the tea leaves in the Chron article, it is very clear that Sabes and Bochy are worried all may not go well for El Beardo..

Twin, thanks for checking in. I’ve thought about you on and off all day. I’m hoping and praying that your nurse is a hot piece of ass 🙂

I apologize for the other night, You’re the coolest doomer I know, Kat 🙂

      • Alleykat said, on February 10, 2012 at 8:48 pm

No worries Twin.I was out of line as well.Still have different theory of a doomer. But coming from you.i will except a doomer role.

I have a story for you,but this might not br the right time,so I’ll spin the yarn another time.Good will and strength will prevail for you i know it.

Picking up pizza at round table. There’s 12 people in here and all are huddled around the tv watching the NY/Laker gm. Lin going off again.

  15. Big flavor said, on February 10, 2012 at 6:48 pm

Um, *proud dad* moment. We’re all watching this game and not aware that some young kid has grabbed the remote on the table behind us. He switches the channel off the knick gm and everyone groans. Katie immediate says “what are you doing? Jeremy is playing!” Order was restored and the gm is back on. Coming from basketball practice tonight, and from a kid who thinks baseball is boring, I couldn’t be happier that she just got so passionate about something sports related. She loves Jeremy Lin. This is an unexpected development. Totally diggin’ it…

  16. zumie said, on February 10, 2012 at 7:45 pm

I watched the NY/LA game. He’s a great story. The NBA needs this kind of story, badly.

    • Flavor said, on February 10, 2012 at 7:50 pm

I caught the 2nd half— a few dumb turnovers but he gets to the basket no problem once the floor is spread. All his long range shots fell (at least the ones I saw). And the charge he took on Barnes and the primal scream he let out after was epic…..

  17. Flavor said, on February 10, 2012 at 7:46 pm

38 pts and a victory over the Lakers. Crazy. What a wild ride this kid is on right now……
