Seeing Different Things in the Same Picture
This is one of the best pictures I have ever seen (sports or otherwise):
After this great game, I converted it into my screen saver. And after looking it at it over and over for a couple of weeks, I’m starting to see different things in this photo.
For instance, Pagan is no longer celebrating his epic bomb, now he’s screaming, “Ow!!!!! WTF just happened to my hamstring?!?!?!!?”.
The look on Torres face is priceless. It’s a combination of shock and unbridled joy. Â But now I’m imagining that being the look he gets whenever he sees one of those strange, white sphere’s come hurtling at him in left field. “WTF is that?!?!?!?!” he screams….
And while we see Scoots emphatically pointing at Pagan and saying something to the effect of “You da man!” we now know that he was practicing the position one of his fingers would soon have to be splinted in order for him to avoid surgery and keep playing.

This pic is a great reminder of why we all love this game……
Yes, awesome photo!
And….I’m going to the game today! Yeah!
I’ll chalk that up as a W right now!
Zumiee: Glad you enjoyed “Of Mikes and Men..” nice review. Thank you.
Last night the kid got a chance to do the flying bump into each other celebration move in the OF, about the only time he looked a little lost. Pads blogs gotta be giving it to the 3rd base coach for sending Kotsay, but he was way out even with Posey up in front of the plate.
Nice to Belt drive one, that was hit a long ways. And yeah, the wind wasn’t only blowing out when the Pads were up. Nice of a few others to pick up Pence.
In contrast to those high budget teams Flav thread couple days ago, black has had Pads competitive for a lot less bucks spent for some time now. I think they are better off without Quentin, and Denorfia just kills us.
Nip, Amy G posts at 1:30 AM? She’s a vapid gal who is allowed in some kind of sweetheart deal to shamelessly self promote her act on a big stage. Anyone *following* her on twitter or watching one of her interview shows with a stupid cute name should be exiled to zombie land.
Amy: I have never watched her other than her game spots which are generally no worse or better than others of the “sideline reporter” genre ( and no better or worse than 90% of player interviews by any male or female interviewer. Player interviews are almost always awful). Where and when are her interview shows, I’ll have to check them out. Are they as bad as watching an infomercial for Wraptastic? I need some diversity in my up all night viewing schedule 😉
Great shot…thanks for sharing Flav.
Have a great time at the game, Zume!
And Perez has to stay in the mix in the OF. We all know that there are better options in CF, and I think Perez is one of them, but no way in hell they move Pagan to a corner OF position at this point (or any subsequent point) this season.
Sure digging watching the kid play, though. Another assist last night…beautiful throw right on the money, and then he gets the game-winning hit. Good stuff.
Nod of the SF cap Flag, great photo!
Juan “The Sniper”Perez now with his 4th OF assist in a week after gunning down Kotsay.
The dude is bringing it every game.Throw in a GW hit which could have been 2 in a row if not for Veneable ‘s mindboggling catch the other night.Kid plays with fire, moxie, motivation
Anybody realize he was MVP of the Atlantic League All-Star game?
He knows how to bring it in big moments on the big stage.
The Sniper. I like it, Kat.
Was just reading that a couple of other Giants now have animal-based nick-names:
Machi is “Baquiro” which in Venezuelan translates to wild pig.
Mijares is Buffalo. How fricking appropriate, because I am “buffaloed” by his latest stints.
Last 14 days: 7.20 ERA/1.800 WHIP.
Last 7 days: 13.50 ERA/3.000 WHIP. OUCH.
Set-up guys are killing us. I know a number have mentioned it, but never thought I would see myself missing Casilla so much.
I do wish Kruk would stop telling us what a fine job he’s doing. But Mijares isn’t a set up guy.
I like my nick name better. He will always be Woo Hoo Perez in my mind. 🙂
And yours has the proper joyous undertone…
Named after Jean “Ferret,” so yes . . . 🙂
I never realized before what a massive wig Pagan was wearing? Or is he Rasta man? zumieeee, bring a W home!
The Prez authorizes launch of rockets.
Yeah, it’s weird what later viewings of a photos can show . I see Scooter and Vungo as leaders of a clubhouse clique set to sideline Crazy Horse, a plot that initially succeeds, as Vungo follows Marco’s direction to “go for the knee!!!!!”
But alas, their evil doings eventually backfire…
so I am happy, a win last night. One of the “average” players we have in Fresno is playing his way into heroship.
Cain has 10 so but gets a no-decision. And belt gets caught stealing.
OH, did I mention, Zumi at a DAY GAME and it is also the free game on mlb.com. sweet
1. Andres Torres (S) LF
2. Marco Scutaro (R) 2B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Hunter Pence (R) RF
5. Joaquin Arias (R) SS
6. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
7. Juan Perez (R) CF
8. Tony Abreu (S) 3B
9. Madison Bumgarner (R) P
Kat’s komment about Perez being MVP of the Atlantic League All-Star Game had me curious. It took awhile to find, but Perez hit a 2-run HR for Augusta in the 2009 South Atlantic League (Class A) ASG, but was not the MVP, so maybe he was MVP in another one? Coincidentally, last night was the South Atlantic League ASG in nearby Lakewood, NJ. Giants 2012 first-rounder (20th overall) Chris Stratton was the losing pitcher for the South in a 2-1 loss, giving up 2 runs, 4 singles and a bunch of stolen bases in 1 inning. Giants 2012 second-rounder (No. 84) Martin Agosto got the start and pitched a scoreless inning. One name in the box score stands out: Raul Mondesi, a SS for the Lexington Legends (Royals). He went 2-for-2.
For one day, I am a Yanks fan. Bombers up 2-0 on the Bums in Game 1. Puig singled in the 1st but was thrown out by Gardner trying to to stretch it to a double.
Vagaries of coaching…game 5 ginobili makes Pop look a genius for starting him as he has best game in playoffs. Last night he’s the shits. Even Dean Smith said he never won a game, just his players.
Good series so far and whomever wins it will have earned it. Man I hate to lose a game on FTs; when Leonard missed the front end it gave Heat all the window they needed. And again, the guys on the floor make Pop look bad by twice being unable to corral defensive board before James and then on last one Allen drill a 3.
Last game I coached 3 months ago, first time down the floor my PG who is second best shot on the team, was fouled shooting a 3, and proceeded to miss them all including an airball. My leading scorer got a couple steals and breakaways, and on one she missed the layup but got fouled and again we missed both the FTs. So naturally, we lost game by a point
The Spurs might’ve had a better chance to get one of those rebounds had Duncan not been inexplicably on the bench.
Pagan either pulled the hammy or whatever he’s got during this run for the roses, or the post-walk off scrum when they were all jumping and tackling him. If he got hurt in the scrum, we’ll never know this year, the Giants won’t say that until some off season week end, where BTW, Baggs will drop a tweet that somebody told somebody that’s when he got hurt…
Why would Pagan be in on the conspiracy? He said he hurt it earlier.
I hadn’t heard that…
I want both the Dodgers and the Yankees to lose today.
Hilarious lead post–very well done Flav! That will have to do down as one of the iconic SFG pictures. There are several aspects I love, but for some reason Scutaro pointing his finger like that is my favorite aspect.
For me that pic goes right up there with the one of Bobby Bonds and Mays colliding against the chain link fence at the Stick in right center. I think Mays caught and hung on to the ball AND was knocked out temporarily—but I might have the details slightly wrong.
The only thing that bums me out about the Pagan inside-the-parker was that I was in the city at the time and was listening to the game (at times while sitting in the audience for my son’s grad ceremony) and was even listening a couple of batters before Pagan, but then turned it off when my sister got back to her place and needed my full attention helping her prep for my son’s party. She’s a great sis and was doing my son a solid throwing that party, so I just shut it off then and there.
Kind of bummed I didn’t get to enjoy the ride when that play was going down, when I was this close to doing so.
Yes, Mays hung on to the ball. It was Bonds’s ball, all the way, but so what. A Saturday afternoon NBC Game of the Week, I recall. I was in college. Willie!
Awesome photo. Grown men having the time of their life playing the best game ever invented. Priceless.
Lets go Bumgarner.
I declare myself a HUGE Marlins fan, just for today.
Mariano K’s Puig looking, Yanks take Game 1.
Great pic. Giants are still in the running even without their starts. As far as BB goes, I don’t really care for BB anymore, Thugs and street players getting paid lots of money. SA seems to be the old school team and Miami the new. only one I don’t like on SA is Tony P, how can you cheat on Eva L?? Anyway GO GIANTS!!
Yes on the photo ……I concur.
I hat mlb dot com once again cannot watch the free game. They want me to buy premium subscription. so KNBR it is
2 more bombs today for Baltimore’s Chris “The juice” Davis in the Orioles total destruction of the Tigers 13-3.
League leading 26 HR’s and batting. 337.
Speaking of batting are little of it.
Travis Isihakwa played 1B today for the Orioles going 1-5 to bring his stellar avg up to. 111
That is your Flap update thank you.
Yeah, he’s had 9 whole at bats so far.
my man belt
Looked like Abreu was afraid of getting hit. Damn.
I wish Amy G. would have my bab . . . Never mind.
Tiburones Blanco!
Nice. 🙂
Boys are TEEING-OFF on Gregerson!
Damn . . . I can’t even remember when this bevy of wealth (hits) last occurred????
They did what Kruk preaches….and preaches…and preaches against a sinkerballer- look up. They did and it was. Nice hitting…
Damn. A bona fide rally! Very cool. Especially after Guzman’s bomb to lose the tie.
Ball Game! Series Win!
Thanks, Zumie! 🙂
Not that I want to see it regularly, but nice to know they can give up the lead late, against a quality opponent, and rally for the win!
Big out for Dunning getting Blanks- I did not want to see Guzman with 2 on there.
Zumiee, just stay there . . . We’ll send ya camping gear.
Seconded. Zumie I think that puts your career record at what? 193-0?
Wow, James Gandolfini, dead at 51. A year younger than me . . . *gulp*
Damn, way too young. That’s it. I’m off pasta and sausages. He was large, but not that large…
Unrelated to baseball . . . I am SHOCKED that GM is numero uno in quality per JD Power. I don’t think that has happened for an American car maker since the early 70s (if not before then).
My ’01 GMC truck is still going strong. Knock on plastic. Time for an oil change.
There was a period between 1975 and 1997, where I didn’t even bother to look at American cars. Then I bought a Ford F-150 (1997) and liked it. I bought the 4wheel drive version of the same truck (1999), as well as an Explorer (1998). Great vehicles. I also only bought Jeep Wranglers (2004 and 2006) when I lived in the mountains. As soon as I moved down the “hill” to Denver, I was over with being pragmatic and sensible . . . I now have my pristine 2000 BMW Z3 M and Honda Prelude (as my every day beater). 🙂
Scutaro has been playing the last two games – is there an explanation (link) on why he is able to play despite his finger? I checked out the Gate, but only found info on Crawford, Panda, and Crazy Horse.
I read that he has to change his grip to lift his splinted finger so that it is not touching the bat.I imagine that the padding on the glove finger protects it when he’s in the field.
Lets hear it for an Amy G. bobblehead.
I need not articulate the fantasies that conjures up — and I mean UP.
I’m in when they come up with the blow up doll.
I think we may need to chip in and get Zumiee season tickets.
.
Go back and check out how the Giants fared on artificial turf in Toronto. It can get ugly for NL teams there. You have a weird thing with posting about Rockies losses. If you’re gonna keep doing this, fire off the same detailed paragraphs when they win. They’re in a tough stretch right now, like all teams go through.
I’m going to post this one, single last time: I never said I thought the Rox would be good this year, I just said they weren’t as bad as the bottom dwellers like Houston and Miami. You and Twin seem to get your *Rox* off by posting shit when they lose. Hey, I don’t give a single shit about the Rox besides hoping they lose. We’re all on the same page about that…..
You seem to think this is directed at you. I live here, so I get the news first hand and only post it because they are our rivals. Right?
Whatever . . . I deleted it.
Keep me out of your spat, I haven’t been posting shit about the Rockheads lately. .
ABSOLUTELY a LMAO blog! Thank you! 🙂
Let me add to that comment, the outcome of the photo was very upsetting as are all the injuries our player’s endured. However, I have a sense of humor which you obviously share so I appreciate your post for that. Let the negative nit pickers go for it. All player’s are going to be just fine so having some fun with it is totally appropriate!
Who is nitpicking the photo, mamma?
It was my “defensive” mechanism going off unfortunately a result of random attacks received via twitter. Was just covering my ass. Thought your comments were amusing but afraid they may be misunderstood. Sad what social media does to a kind person that may be a bit insecure. Go figure. 🙂
Well, my “terrible” team and Flavor’s “Patsy’s” are neck and neck, so I’m up for a friendly wager.
I’ll check back in the morning on that. Bedtime for me..
