Game Time Thread!
Hey, when a Dodger fan orders me to write a game time thread I freaking do it. No questions asked. ๐ That way, if we blow you fuckers out tonight it will be a perfect, undisturbed, devoted work of blog art.
Puigster goes 1-4 tonight and Gillespie has the game winning hit……
Just to be bi-threadal, I posted this at the previous, pregame thread and am posting it here, just because:
For sheer rookie enthusiasm, Iโll never forget one Larry Herndon. The dude was on fire. In one game โ for all I know, it was even beyond his first year โ he couldnโt resist getting in on the action and was in a rundown at third base! It was reckless, but so was Mays crashing into Bonds against the chain-link fence. I said something about it to him in the Pittsburgh locker room in 1978 [unless I’m in a psychotic fugue], and he quietly and humbly mumbled thanks. He did go on to have good years with Detroit, right? Larry Herndon. He exploded onto the scene.
I loved Herndon. Gary Matthews, Jack Clark, Chris Speier, etc… Loved all those guys from the late 70’s–the beginning of my beginning as a giants fan
I have a memory of Gary Matthews you’ll like. I used to get shit-faced at the house of a Yankees fan who went by the name of Spaghetti. We’d get drunk and watch baseball. I’d be lucky I wasn’t phoning the clubhouse before game’s end over something, anything. Well, one time the Giants got in a fight — maybe with the Dodgers; who knows, maybe it was against the Cards, the time Whitey Herzog and Roger Craig squared off. Most notably, in this fight Gary Matthews didn’t just stand around and grab a jersey. Nope. He was whaling on someone. like boxer. Cosell or someone even remarked on it. My Yankees fan friend really admired Matthews for that skill set, as the term is these days.
Gotta have a haymaker thrower on the team. Of course, in the 70’s and 80’s that would make up the majority of the team
Speier was a revelation at SS in ’71. We’d been used to friggin Hal Lanier, who was a pretty decent glove, but not much hit. Big difference that was. Speier reportedly made $12,750 that year, like most of the team. Mays got $160K, Stretch $110K, Marichal $125K. Gaylord got $75K…
Loved Speier at SS. Good times.
That’s an awesome story, Pawlie…thanks for sharing.
For fecksake, we can’t do shit against the Red but the Mariners sail in to the Queen City and beat them 4-2.
Wheeler checking in with another 2+ WHIP tonight. Well, he’s been better than Kick at least
Why doesn’t Cain go all Don Drysdale-Bob Gibson on Puig and just plunk him, to show who’s boss? Plus, it’d be great for the rivalry. (Maybe we’re saving that for Greinke, their Designated Hittee.)
aarrrgh…pence with sacks loaded hits a two hop dribbler on first pitch he sees, and belt swings at two pitches out of the zone and Ks. Hope Cain can make it stand up tonite.
“aarrrgh”
Dog lineup is a bitch.
Should have put away Kemp though.
This team is REALLY getting on my nerves. And it’s only 2-1
Uh, 3-1. Fuck fuck fuck.
Another discouraging and disappointing effort from Cain. Gets 2 strikes can’t finish em off.
1-2 to walks 5 times. Ohhhhh, fuck. I hate baseball.
Sell sell sell!!!,!,
Lord, how bad does it get. Nothing fucking going right for our guys these days. They look like the 1962 Mets out there.
Gnight. Ugly beyond words. And that’s just following it online. It must burn your eyes out to see it. Outta here.
The only good nes is I’m watching this in Lake Tahoe.
Jealous. Love Tahoe. Will be there in Aug for 3 days
It’s times like these that I regret starting a new thread for a fucking Dodger fan… ๐ ๐ ๐
Hope you learned your lesson…FUCK a bunch of (ALL!) Bum fans. Nothing personal Flav…but to Bum fans in the future…just say NO!
I’ll bet it’s a whole lot fun at the yard tonight with all the bums fans there.
I’m not misogynistic; in fact I’d say I’m something of a feminist. But that trainer for the bums, Sue what’s her name, looks like a hollywood tv star impersonating a trainer. Looks like her hair stylist travels with the team. What would the name of the series be — Training Day? Magic Fingers? Deep Tissue? (No, not happy endings.) Can she keep the AS CF healthy and in the LU? Can she convince the young Cuban rookie star to stay away from the questionable supplements while taking advantage of what the great trainers can offer? I’m sure the drama would be riveting.
Interesting that you say that. I’m watching the game with a Stanford physician and he goes “what is she doing with his arm? That “test” wouldn’t yield a result and at worst could make a shoulder injury worse”.
I B bi-thread_edd, too:
Just woke up to watch the game. Read a few of the early posts but did not see anyone mention Matt Cain as an uncomfortable surprise this season. I know some of his numbers have been close to his career averages this season. Except his ERA, 5 wins in 17 starts, alread past his season average for HRs.
His failure and, for me, his leadership (as a winner) directly mimics the team’s failures this year. To NOT see him “turn things around” after a bad start in May baffles me, is surprising and leads me to believe there is an evil spirit that exists in the uniforms and equipment of this team from tip to tail. Other than that you gotta believe.
so, now I will go and see how the game is going.
Well on the other thread I called for Bochy to get Posey before the triple, so under the rules I can rag on Bochy. ๐ Cain had nothing, it was batting practice out there, but Bochy leaves him in with bags loaded? Uribe is the #8 guy, but come on, he can hit a cripple still. Then Kontos gives up an RBI hit to the oppo pitcher. Wow.
This one’s going to get uglier, I’m afraid. I’m with Sabes, as I’ve said earlier this week, SF can’t be a buyer until the ship rights. If it doesn’t, there’s no reason to give away prospects for a ship going down. Giants need to pull out of this nosedive THIS homestand. If they crater at home, it’s officially ledge time, IMO…
Time for Krukow to go into his full excuse making mode. Oh boy isn’t going to say anything to jeopardize his seven figure job.
It’s gonna take a lot more than friggin Nolasco and Francouer.
Well, that depends on your take of the team currently. If Pablo gets straight and Scoots and Craw straighten their fingers and Voggy, Casilla and Gaudin come back healthy then it’s not insane to think that adding Nolasco and a contributing Frenchie wouldn’t right the ship. Adding 2o% to the SP staff and possibly 12.5% to the hitters isn’t a bad thing if the WS team you had started playing fucking sound baseball again
A contributing Francoeur is a pretty big long shot. I’m not sure he’s an upgrade on anybody in the *Fresno* OF right now. But a minor leaugue deal, why not? Let’s see.
more than Nolasco and Francouer? We now have Gillespie, do not forget.
And he’s got a game winning hit tonight tucked safely away in his back pocket. Can’t put a price tag on that my friend ๐
I’ll catch up with the thread later. I am so frustrated. Left the house while the first pitch was being thrown. Did not check scores while gone. Get home and it is 8 to FUCKING 1 Bumbinos. Geez. I really thought that Matt had turned the corner and maybe the Giants would get shit going in the right direction. I haven’t looked at box scores or anything…not sure I will. Just frustrating….SIGH…
Hang in there. Long way to go
When I asked for “my” Giants team back I did not mean the 1985 team.
Lol.
Snort. Good one Ed. ๐
I’m out, Flappers. Fuck this pathetic bullshit. Check back with ya tomorrow.
Well, it’s worth watching to see if Pablo might be coming around. That was a pretty impressive double down the RF line.
Kickham when they’re up, Kickham when they’re down.
Kickham when they’re up, Kickham when they’re down.
Kickham when they’re up, Kickham when they’re down.
Kickham when they’re stiff, Kickham all around.
(I stole that from someone on the Merc. It’s too good not to repeat here.)
That’s classic. I need to look at the rest of those lyrics to see if we’ve got more to work with there
I’m not a huge Eagles guy (or their solo incarnations), but I’ve always thought that was a real good song.
Also…on a positive note, I’m glad to see that Crawls got a haircut.
watching this game is harder than reading Irish authors. But I have never been a fair weather fan. This is my team (dammit).
So when Cain was getting one out in the third inning, Bruce walked to the bottom of the dugout steps, threw some body english towards the mound and mouthed something. To me it looked like he was saying: “do I need to come out there and kick your ass?”
Krukow announces: “Bochy is worried about his starter and asking him if he is OK.”
Sandoval soft fly, Posey soft grounder, Pence soft head
A whole lot of soft!
Giants Nation = soft penis (C’mon—somebody had to say it—right?)
Get Posey outta there
Uribe having a hell of a game with 7 RBI – dude has really started to put together a decent season – contract year, of course.
Ive seen a million losses from a thousand shitty Giants teams, but I’ve NEVER seen a consistently pathetic effort from the hitters as I’ve seen in this stretch. Losing happens. Losing 8-1, 3-0, 8-2, 5-0, on and on just grates on my brain. This is beyond crappy. This is terminal. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with Psey and Pence coming up, and my thought is, how will they screw this up? Well, pretty easy it turns out.
The pitchers are scared shitless. Give up a run and watch the offense go aggro and use up 5 pitches for the whole inning. When they DO get runners on, it’s swing, pop up.
Yeah, unca – the Dodgers had a long stretch of the same bullshit the giants are going through – of course, half the team was injured – Dodgers having used the DL more than any other team in MLB – now they are healthy – and showing what they could have been all along.
Gloating Rooster? Where ya been for the last 3 years? ๐
Hey Zoom – been busy – Giants sure had a helluva run last postseason, huh.
It was rockin’, indeed.
Uribe goin’ fer the cycle now.
hey rooster go for more dinner…cook yourself er fuck yourself
.
.
I guess that strikeout means he’s not going to get it.
Guess he’ll have to settle for just a double, triple, homer and 7 RBI – DAMN !
Have Dodger fans stopped hating him?
Don’t know about the rest, Zoom – but I, myself never hated Uribe – he’s had some shitty stretches the past couple years but he’s solidified his spot @ 3B this season – playin’ good.
Wow, you KNOW it’s bad when the Dodgers bring in League to face your team.
Physically, the team is shot to hell. Not much to be done about that. Too many key players that have to mend before they can perform as they should. At least there’s hope in that regard, over the rest of this season, which still has some way to go, especially with no other team running away with the division (although LA is heading in that direction). Mentally, it seems they’re also shot to hell. We know some of these guys who are not hurt should be doing better. Time heals all (physical) wounds, I just don’t know about the mental physique of this team. They just seem dead and deader. That’s more worrisome than the physical injuries, IMO. We’ve all had physical ailments, and we know it affects our day to day lives, mentally and physically. When this team is dealing with both issues… it’s pretty fucked. Will making a trade, or a demotion, or a benching, or whatever, help? I’m no doomer. But I am a realist. It’s looking pretty grim. In Bochy we trust, right? In Sabean, we trust, right? … Right???…. Um… I’m very near taking the summer off from baseball. And that sucks beyond belief.
Yeah, even Pence has been a rally-killer lately. For the longest time I thought he really needed to be re-signed after this season, but now I’m not leaning that way. I think we may have gotten the best the Rev had to offer.
I felt as you did. And now feeling as you do. Sad but true.
We’ll get ’em tomorrow.
Go Gigantes!
Looks like is is shaping up to be another sunburn day for all these pale skinned Brits. See ya’ll tonight.
You think Lincecum has a convoluted wind up; dig this…

It’s a sad state of affairs when my time was much better spent at a One Direction concert than watching the Giants.
The older Snarkkette is plotting to see One Direction with friends at the end of this month. Rare tickets are apparently available through a secret source, expensive tho’. She has her heart set on marrying Niall, along with just a few million other girlish teens…
