Riley Cooper’s defense that it’s “not the real him” really falls apart when you watch the video clip. The way he says it so casually and confidently, it clearly IS the real him. I guess he was directing the statement towards the black security guards, who were there to do their job at the concert.
Guys like him, and Mel Gibson, are always so apologetic when they get caught in the act.
The first step for those guys to rehabilitate themselves is to admit that they ARE racist, and to try to understand how they got that way. Then there’s hope for them.
I never heard of Riley Cooper until today. Not sure if I care to hear about him again…
Karma can be a bitch, ask Culliver…a miraculous IQ boost would have been a kinder fate, but life can be cruel..
So grateful for VipBox . . . No DirectTV, No Kos feed, but I have the Giants game to look forward to on this alternate feed. Life is good. :-).
WHOOT! Enjoy the game, Steve!
My favorite Cooper was DB Cooper the guy with the brass cojones who jumped out of the airplane in the70’s in the Nortwest with over 300K.
Still a great mystery today,like the.Zodiac Killer..
Jesus . . . Now we have to battle the umps too? Game is hard enough playing TB.
Joe West is a joke. A disgrace.
Calling attention to himself is all that is…
Agreed. If I’m a Giant rounding first I’m looking to bump him.
Fuck me. Thanks Joe.
That’s not a hit by Zobrist if Belt is in regular position, not holding on a guy that was out but was called safe by an idiotic, ego centric ump…
This kid is really good . . . I have him on one of my FL teams. He is batting .447 (17-for-38) during the second half. If Myers hits safely this evening, he’ll tie Delmon Young’s franchise record of a 13-game hitting streak as a rookie. Myers has smacked four homers over 10 game post-break, posting an insane 1.342 OPS. Tampa Bay may regret not promoting him sooner. The Rays .808 winning percentage in July was the third-best mark in that month in MLB since 1921, behind the 1941 Yankees (25-4, .862) and 1945 Cubs (26-6, .813).
Zito officially scratched for Sunday. Guillermo Moscoso, come on down!
The Undertaker turned 24 yesterday. Already has 2 rings and has started over 100 games. Damn impressive.
I’m out for some night-time golf and BBQ. Enjoy the rest of the game fellas.
What’s the reason for the scratch? Not that we need one, but I’d like to hear it for amusement…
Cuz Zits needs to sit the fuck down for a start. Dude has flat-out sucked. Hard to believe he is the same guy who didn’t lose second half of last year, or pitched MONEY fucking baseball for the Giants in the playoffs.
Biogenesis clinic? Nah, that would be too much to ask for.
He Brandoned that one.
Bad Belt. Yer benched! LOL.
Didn’t hit it far enough, Blade. Shoulda hit it another 10 rows back.
Pussy… 😉
Nice job, Belt. Take that, Joe West.
If Belt played in Tampa next year, he’d hit 25-30 jacks…
Geez that Belt guy sucks…NOT. Way to Belt that fucker, Brandon!
As to the Zitster: I think “scratched” is the wrong term, it was just decided that he sucked . In manager-ese:
““Sometimes it’s just time for a change,” Bochy said. “You get in a rut, just as it’s been this year for Barry. How long this will be I can’t tell you. It’s time to mix it up.. It’s time to change it up””
Rut? You’re too kind, Twin.
That was Bochy’s term.
Nice K by Big Country…
Y’all have a good one.
Go, Giants.
Just a loud out. Pitch count is up…yes, but BP should be well rested.
Way to pitch out of it!
I’m watching on my computer – was Blanco out? I couldn’t tell with the lousy monitor refresh rate.
Live, he looked safe, but the replay showed that while close, he was probably out.
I dunno, I think West blew that one, too…
So Blade, you don’t have an HDMI cable so that you can watch your computer feed on your big screen?
Chi, the cable is about 3 feet short. They have it on the other side and back of the tv . . .
Time to buy a longer cable. I have a couple of 12 or 15 footers. They’re not cheap, but worth it.
Bring that puppy to the Sept. 7th Flapalooza dude. 🙂
Off to grab some grub…got the game set to record…will be playing catch-up when I get home. Enjoy the game Flappers. GO GIANTS!
Had a feeling Belt would like Tampa. He tore it up at Chase earlier this year. Not sure if the roof was open.
Love the body language tonight. 😉
“3 or 4 HR bunches?” When was the last time this happened?
Regardless, nice triple for Belt.
I think that happened once last year and once in 2011- HRs in 3 consecutive games.
Thanks Mike.
Who is this team we are watching? Way to go Brandon(s).
Yes and yes.
Go, Giants.
I called in the last thread that if Belt hit for the cycle, he’ll be benched tomorrow. He only needs a double to get the cycle now…
I’d put mucho dinero down that Pill starts tomorrow.
SOME GOOD NEWS!!!
You got married? Divorced?
both??
runs for the Giants have been rarer than an honest politician. Brandon Belt heroics? twinfan posting? Up in the am and we are playing!
{{{{GROUP HUGS}}}
🙂
In one day?…
Runs, wins, and the ability to hit w/RISP have all been as rare as hen’s teeth…
Sure, only a little 3 game streak…but you gotta start somewhere…
Thanks for the thread, Twin.
So, does Belt’s performance make the skipper look like a genius? Or an eejit?
Before the game, Bochy said he’d go with match ups with Belt and Pill. Code for platoon.
I thought it was code for “I’m not in love with either, but Posey is catching.”
Yeah, that too.
MadBum’s a very tough guy; Belt can hit when he’s focused; and Bochy’s a genius.
Wow! That was pretty Blanco.
My step-daughter just noted a story about a homeless man returning an engagement ring accidentally dropped in his begging basket. He then receives $100,000 in donations from well wishers. And he didn’t have to walk a long distance to do it. (Abe Lincoln reference) True story? Strange tales from the states.
Is this the same Jamey Wright who sucked when he was with us and who qualifies for The List?
I think (i) yes, and (ii) maybe not, since he’s still getting people out?…
he was good w/ the Indians, I recall. I’m rooting for them to get into the PS. And the Pirates.
Dumb.
Well, I guess that’s why they didn’t trade Lopez. Phhht…
Two more outs for our first three straight wins since I honestly don’t know when. Ooops. C’mon, Sergio.
Totally unnecessary.
#nerviosa_maxima
given the season so far I am kinda liking me some torture.
A win AND an decent bedtime for Bozo
You got it buddy. Good win!!
Giants win another road game!
Pop a couple of cold ones!
Belt doesn’t hit ’em 3 or 4 at a time, but he does now, again, share the second best HR rate on the team after Posey. In other words, he’d probably be on his way to breaking JT Snow’s ATT record for HRs hit by a 1B man if he was simply left alone to play every day. 🙂
BTW, if your OPS is 783, whether you strike out 40 or 80 times is irrelevant to your productivity. You may not care for the way all those Ks look, but this is a long-settled issue.
And if nothing else it’s good for him to hammer balls on the road in front of prospective buyers in yards where he might be more comfortable…as in anywhere except ATT.
Yeah, it’s easy for some to acknowledge park effects in general, but hard for them to forgive the victims. Fortunately, after they dump Belt, there will always some other loser for me to root for 🙂
What about SFs? And aren’t some SOs are worse than others? This year so far Belt has 27 SOs with 2 outs; by contrast, Buster has 16, with 40 more PAs.
Well, Belt has 2 SF, the same number as Pence. Posey has 4. Posey has also grounded into 10 DPs, Belt 4.
Really, if you do the simple math, taking into account the distribution of likely situations (30% time leading off an inning, 40% of the time with men on base, etc), it will become abundantly clear that those 40 extra Ks don’t mean much.
well, I was fine with calculus, but things went down hill from there so I quit simple math after linear algebra. Maybe I don’t really appreciate all of those 2 out SOs, which seem to me to “distribute” rather narrowly.
I am curious about what conclusions you are drawing about those extra 2 out Ks, Xoot. If Belt had driven the ball to the warning track for the third out 13 or 14 times instead of striking out, what would that have changed? The constraint here is that Belt’s OPS is exactly the same, irrespective of his K total. As I mentioned the other night, it is certainly reasonable to expect that his OPS might be higher if he had 40 fewer Ks.
James, you slung an unusual amount of bullshit last night. It was good comedy, thanks
You should pay more attention to the “bullshit”.
I’m taking a simple approach. I agree, outs are outs. But, and again I don’t have the stats to support this–I’m just running on anecdotal experience here, I think it’s more likely that a 2-out drive to the warning track will turn into a baserunner than will a 2-out SO. So I’d rather see the warning track shots.
Unfortunately, every stat that measures production has been deemed unsatisfactory for use here.
More nonsense from you, keep it up!
One game at a time, let’s claw back. Good pitching, good defense, timely hitting, some homers. I’m lovin’ it.
Nice win.
That Tropicana place is like a mausoleum. Even the turf looks like it needs replacement…
Out-fuckin-standing. This goddamn season isn’t over yet. MadBum is a stud and the boys are starting to show signs of life.
I think the magic number is 9. In 1982 a 9-game win streak in August vaulted the Giants back into the division race. Of course they then went 20-7 in Sept. But first things first.
I paid $24 for a pitcher of beer tonight. What the hell is this world coming to when a person has to pay $24 for a damn pitcher of beer? At a BBQ joint, no less. Its not like I was at Harry Denton’s Sky Room or some ritzy the-place-to-be-seen nightclub. Something called “Sculpin” that seriously tasted like crap as far as I’m concerned. Fucking ridiculous.
3 in a row feels great. Can’t wait to see what Timmy has in store for tomorrow.
Damn, that’s 3 Buffalo Trace/Carpano Manhattans at the right dive.
Maybe that was “Scalpin”, as in, the customer…
I had a little moment of sticker shock today. I’m generally anti-fastfood, but in the midst of running some errands today, I stopped at a Wendy’s and bought one of those pretzel bun burgers that has, like, 9 million calories, and the thing cost over 5 bucks. I only bought the burger, not the meal. Sheesh.
Fast food used to have a reputation for being cheap, but it really ain’t all that cheap anymore, IMO.
I never, ever eat fast food. But that pretzel burger looks good. Forgetting the price and the calories, please review how it tasted!
Krukow must be your cuisine mentor…
It’s been a great summer for watermelons in the Valley, not so good for canteloupes. And it’s been a good summer for the hybrid melon called “orange flesh.” Valley tomatoes don’t seem as good this year, IMO. We had that weirdly humid June, and maybe that affected the crops overall.
I’m off to Berkeley tomorrow to see singer/songwriter Kim Richey perform. I’ll have the game on DVR. Let’s make it 4 in a row!
Zume – did you recently see Emmylou and Rodney Crowell? If so, I assume it was an awesome show. Buying tickets next Friday when they go on sale for the Mondavi Center in Davis. Seeing Lyle and his Large Band there soon, too.
Many, many years ago, when I was striving to get a college degree, and was pretty much a classic starving college student, several friends of mine and myself all had part-time jobs at the same Sears. And we got paid every week, on a Friday. So, every Friday, after getting our checks, we would all go to the same bank to get the checks cashed, and then head to a pizza parlor called Shakey’s. I don’t even know if that franchise still exists. They used to have an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for 5 dollars, I think. And we were all pretty tall guys, and we would set out to destroy that buffet. Plate-load after plate-load, we were stocking up calories for the week in incredible displays of over-eating. Shakey’s wasn’t making their money off of us.
Straw Hat Pizza was the competition. They used to show silent comedies in the evenings, although I don’t remember any Buster K.
great memories, Shakey’s, all-you-can-eat, manly college meals; thanks zumiee
We used to bike to Shakey’s off El camino in Palo Alto as kids. Good pizza. Or maybe we were just kids and didn’t know what good pizza was. It closed down 20 years ago or so
