A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Tweet This Ahole

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 6, 2013

I’m all-in on Twitter man, and I hate it. But there are just too many details in the news that you miss if you aren’t following the news breakers. But there’s one thing I really dislike about it and it’s tweets like this one from Dan Meyer:

meyer

First of all, Dan Meyer sucks and I think if the situation were reversed and he was taking steroids and Bastardo wasn’t, he still wouldn’t have won that job. But my main beef with this tweet is that if you are gonna call another man an “ahole” have the decency to do it to his face. Or don’t say it at all.

Back in the day, if you had a problem with someone you dealt with that person directly. If that didn’t go well, you rolled up or threw down, whatever you called it back in YOUR day, that’s what you did. And then usually, whatever the problem was, it was over.

But with twitter and facebook, you’ve got all these people talking sh!t about other people with absolutely zero repercussion for doing so. And it never ends, it just keeps going. Kids are bullied via social media to the point of suicide.

And I know that this thread has now morphed into a weird social commentary that doesn’t have anything to do with baseball anymore. I’m just tired of watching people do a virtual high-five when they “retweet” the words of another person who’s actually too afraid to say the same words directly to the person their dissing in their tweet.

While Dan Meyer is busy celebrating all those retweets and getting interviewed on ESPN last night, he might want to also consider that he could have expressed his feelings to Bastardo in a more direct, private way. Or tweet it out minus that pussy hashtag at the end.

I have no cure for human behaviours that are rude, cowardly, lumpen.
In fact, just last night, Nipper and I were discussing other people’s deportment; in the van.
Boy, did we come up with some good ones! (you’re gonna laugh)
BTW, that guy really knows how to celebrate a win. #gobsmacked

I don’t follow Twitter…have no desire, nor the time. But I do agree…if you have a beef with someone, tell them about it to their face. Anything less and you just a BIG PUSSY.

I have just not had the time to learn how to tweet. shortly though I will. Facebook is good but from what I have seen Tweeting can really get a conversation going. With that said, yes it is very very easy to text, tweet, Facebook a comment to someone. It takes moxy to man/woman up and say something to someone who is standing right in front of you. A good example is when Jim Rome kept calling Jim Everette, Chris Everette. Jim told him to knock it off, Rome did it again and Everette came right out of his chair!! Now that is the way it is done.

I know I could look it up, but instead I’ll share my stupidity. Who the fuck is Dan Meyer?

Sad day when your team wins and the game story appears on Page 5 of the sports section. And the team across the pond takes up half the front page.
Why do I loathe the A’s so much? Even during their 70’s run I couldn’t care less. Would be great if I could shift my attention there now and not feel like I just inhaled a five day old pretzel cheeseburger.

    • Bozo said, on August 6, 2013 at 11:16 am

I hear ya salty. When I used to live in SF I’d get pissed when I got the sporting green and an Oaktown team was above the fold. My argument was that we were separate cities, each having our on news paper, maybe, just maybe the hometown team should get the prime coverage.

I was a proud member of the lumpenproletariat for a good time after college. Pre-computers. Cheap wine, real in your face discussions and an occasional brawl. Good times.
Must have also grumbled a lot to myself without blogs.

    RULES FOR SUSPENDED PLAYERS

    What they can’t do:
    Cannot receive pay
Cannot participate in Arizona Fall League
    Cannot participate in Postseason games
Cannot be elected or selected to the All-Star Game (if player is suspended during the offseason, Spring Training, or championship season prior to the All-Star Game)

    What they can do:
Can participate in Spring Training and extended spring training
Can participate in affiliated Winter League games
Can work out with the club
Can participate in batting practice before the gates open before a game
Can consent to an assignment to a Minor League affiliate for a period of time prescribed under Section 7.H.2 of the Joint Drug Program

The only thing on this list I was unaware of, was in regard to participating in post season games. I could have sworn that this was a decision made by the clubs, e.g., Melky last year was eligible, but the Giants did not add him to the roster, right? Or, was this a moot point and they couldn’t add him without MLB permission? Or, these rules are ONLY specific to this particular case (i.e., negotiated by the Union and Commissioner’s office)? If anyone knows the answer, please share . . .

    • chipower9 said, on August 6, 2013 at 12:18 pm

The period when Melky was eligible to join the Giants in the post-season was after he had finished serving his 50 game suspension. It was the Giants who made the decision not to add him.

  10. blade3colorado said, on August 6, 2013 at 10:47 am

I tweet once in a blue moon. Meh. Before I joined last year (waste of time – only did it because the Gmen won the WS), I thought tweets were what birds did. Silly me.

  11. snarkk said, on August 6, 2013 at 10:56 am

I don’t tweet, don’t facebook. But, aren’t we kind of doing that here, when we call each other FOS? I know it’s fun and all, and there’s not the audience and “re-Flapping” and all that, and not like this Meyer/Bastardo dustup which is real stuff, but isn’t it sort of the same? I dunno. I know if we were limited here to 140 characters, I’d be toast. So, at the Flapalooza, it’s “throw down time”, Boys! Hopefully, we’re throwing down some brews, and that’s it…

    • chipower9 said, on August 6, 2013 at 12:21 pm

Only thing I may throw down in addition to some brews is a dog or some kind of ballpark grub.

  12. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2013 at 10:58 am

It musta been staged. Phantom sack aside, ANY NFL football player could kick the shit out of JimRome. Well, maybe not Garo Yepremian . . .

    • Irish Kevin said, on August 6, 2013 at 11:12 am

      Here Chuck, not staged

      • snarkk said, on August 6, 2013 at 11:19 am

That incident made Rome a ton of money and a long career. Kinda looks staged to me. Notice how Everett is starting to overturn the table before Rome says the “Chris” word the last time? And, Everett doesn’t really go after him when Rome is down. Everett should get a piece of every check Rome cashes…

      • chipower9 said, on August 6, 2013 at 12:24 pm

Probably staged, but I am a HUGE fan of anyone who puts a whoop-ass on Jim Rome. I cannot stand that jack-ass…and yeah, if I had the chance, I’d tell him to his face. He’s a fucking over-paid blow-hard in my book.

      • blade3colorado said, on August 6, 2013 at 1:40 pm

Looks real to me (but Rome is a fake . . . LMAO).

  13. snarkk said, on August 6, 2013 at 11:05 am

I don’t know this Meyer dude at all. But, he sounds like the guys I always thought were the ones nobody talks about in all this, the guys that are the real victims. When FP Santageroid was using PEDs (supposedly only a short time, he says), he was doing it to stay in the league. Some minor leaguer, assume a clean one, looking for a 24th or 25th spot on a roster was denied that shot, because good ‘ol FP was using — whether to get to the league, or to stay there. Same thing in the minors, a guy that uses and doesn’t get caught gets the call up, a guy with the same natural skills, he’s a lifetime AAAA dude. It’s so messed up, I don’t even know if a guy like Pill is legit. Maybe he’s clean and that’s why he never made it. Or, maybe he uses/used, and that’s why he even got where he is to a AAAA player with a cup of coffee now and again. That’s the problem. You just don’t know…

  14. Bozo said, on August 6, 2013 at 11:35 am

Something that has always kind of bothered me about steroid usage is the Canseco brothers. Identical twins, I assume both used steroids yet one has a career in MLB hitting HRs the other only gets into twenty some odd games and never hits a HR at the major league level. What’s up with that? Did Ozzie get on the needle train late? Was his ideal sport a bouncer at a nightclub? What happened there? I don’t get it.

    • xoot said, on August 6, 2013 at 2:08 pm

i was reading just the other day about a successful singer whose identical twin sister can’t carry a tune at all. Sounds like the premise for a good bad movie.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2013 at 1:42 pm

      Kinda like here.

RIght, Bozo. I mean, look at Barry Bonds. His brother, for all intents and purposes, was as good as his brother talent-wise (according to both of them). Bobby Jr. didn’t have the drive or determination of his brother.

      • Alleykat said, on August 6, 2013 at 1:57 pm

Chuck…Bobby Jr couldnt hold Barry’s jock strap in talent.
Couldnt cut it the minors, too much coke and other drugs.
Barry just muscled up with his PED’s and said fuck everybody.

With. maybe next year he’s a left handed Gaudin.

  22. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2013 at 3:33 pm

AK, talk to Barry about it. Barry said Bobby Jr. had more pure talent than he did. He just didn’t have the will or drive to succeed, or whatever. Then he got into trouble.

Barry just muscled up? Yeah, at 38 . . .

  23. xoot said, on August 6, 2013 at 3:51 pm

Twitter’s pretty good for quick news bites, like this one from Baggs a couple minutes ago:

From Giants: “Update: Upon reviewing Ted Lilly’s medical history we are going to hold off on pursuing a minor league contract right now.”

    • xoot said, on August 6, 2013 at 3:52 pm

Love BB. That show is addicting. The two main guys are great. They’re thinking of spinning off Saul Goodman into his own series. I dunno. He’s great in BB. His own series might be too much of a good thing.
But, to clarify, NetFlix has the first half of the final (5th) season, since the last half (final 8 episodes) hasn’t aired yet, that’s starting soon — this Sunday…

      • twinfan1 said, on August 6, 2013 at 4:55 pm

if imballment was an intentional misspelling, great work, kat. if not, great accident…
the rome incident has for years been rumored to be a staged incident. or at the least everett knew there would be a rome-ulan attack. the overlooked part is that chris evert was the party who was insulted. everett should be flattered to be compared to her, she was one of the toughest competitors in any any sport, male or female.

  27. snarkk said, on August 6, 2013 at 5:12 pm

How BBad will end, I don’t know. But, I’m certain it will be done well. This creator guy Vince Gilligan hasn’t let us down yet. I don’t remember one false move the whole show. I can really think, maybe, of just one show that rang a little off, and that was when WW went into Tuco’s upstairs office and blew it up, but survived, got outta there alive, and nobody came after him, as he got in his car right across the street. That’s about the only time when I thought, hmmm, that’s kinda not believable. Even taking out the whole cartel brass around the pool with Jesse and Fring surviving and escaping was sorta believable. You would think from where WW was at the beginning to what he has become, that journey would be unbelievable. But, step by step, they’ve pulled it off, IMO…

This lineup seems about right. If this doesn’t work, there’s no further playing around with LUs that will do any good unless they play Sept callups. Who that would be, or what diff it would make, I dunno. They just have to hit and start scoring some runs, that’s all…

The Dodgers with 15 road wins in a row, are trying to catch the NL record of 17, which the Giants (in their NY years) hold, and the AL record is 18, I think. But the Dodgers are losing 5-1 at the moment, so their streak may end tonight.
