A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Tyler Colvin, Come on Down!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on February 22, 2014

Now THIS is a quality tweet:

And another Orioles physical flunky bites the dust and this time ends up in San Francisco. I’ve always kinda liked Tyler Colvin although admittedly that was a couple of years ago. In 2012 I predicted he’d hit 20 bombs and I missed by 2. :

He’s had some injury problems and the shine has dulled a bit off his promise. But I am all for more players in camp who haven’t shown that they suck yet (at least, in OUR OWN minor league system). And it’s not like he’s been helpless at the major league level. He’s had 2 seasons  where he hit 20/18 bombs in limited at bats.  He’s still only 28. More power, Scotty!

Can he pull the ball? I’d think so. If he can bang ’em off the bricks or into the cove, hey, works for me. Some bench power is greatly needed.

Fast times is one of my all time favorite movies . . .

Way things are stocking up Fresno should feature a pretty good squad this year. Meanwhile, Richmond looks to be a monster, what with the presence of the San Jose Five on the mound.

If Colvin has anything left, he’ll fit right in with the Giants: He does well in even-numbered years and stinks in odd years.

Hey, maybe we’re getting a two for one deal with the back specialist.

Taking O’s rejects? Damn how low can one get.

Is Joe Angel broadcasting with them?

      • James said, on February 22, 2014 at 1:47 pm

This is POTD worthy. After failing a stringent, newly instated broadcasting tryout, rumor is the Orioles offered Joe back to the Giants for a couple of draft picks.

puig apparently arrived overweight (26 lbs?) according to an article on CSNbayarea. My two had their first high school JV baseball game today against Petaluma. team didn’t do well but jack crushed one to the fence that the guy made a running over the shoulder catch on and sam hit one hard in the hole that short made a good backhand on and got him by a step. beautiful day to watch the young men play ball. hope all y’all are enjoying yours.

Let’s hope for internal Dodger disarray….

Bonds coming to spring training as official instructor…I like it. They needed to close the loop and mend that relationship.

  8. stixwiz said, on February 22, 2014 at 3:59 pm

That’s good news on Bonds, G.H. A true sign of Spring. The thaw has begun with the organization and #25.
Step by step they should work on him getting Inducted. Of course those self-important baseball writers do want their pound of flesh.

    • DJLoo said, on February 22, 2014 at 4:17 pm

Better to be inducted than indicted…

Did I read that Kent was hanging around ST as well, or did I dream it?

The MLB network has listed their first two weeks of Spring Training games.
Zero Giants games in the first two weeks, and about a zillion Dodger games.
Maybe the Giants get more coverage in the weeks after that….

What’s Kevin Mitchell up to? Would be great to see him and Clark together and around the team, too.
Gotta have pride in that uniform. Not that there’s many new guys for it to rub off on.

I always smile when I see Mitch in the house.

I don’t think anybody thought that what Puig really needed to do this off season was add 25 pounds.
More frustration for Two-Trips and his coaching staff.
The Dodgers are pretty high on their outfield prospect Pederson. The Dodgers are really ripe for a trade of one of their outfielders. There’s no way they would trade with the Giants, I guess.

Not since we fleeced ’em for my beloved Candy Maldonado (for Alex Trevino)…

  12. Flavor said, on February 22, 2014 at 5:31 pm

I’m of the opinion that having guys like Bonds, Kent, Mitchell etc hanging around *guest coaching* or whatever is a lot more of a big deal for the fans than it is for the current players. But what do I know.

Colvin passed his physical with the Giants. What medical standard do the Orioles medical staff set? How high is the bar? Do you have to be an android to pass?

    • snarkk said, on February 22, 2014 at 6:52 pm

For Sabes, to pass the physical you have to be currently injured or recovering from off season surgery…

Speaking of Android, I hate that OS . . . Hahaha. Actually, I lost 1-2 hours of work the other day on a post. Grrrrr . . . I uploaded a new post (image actually) of the New and Improved Vietnamese SUV, which is capable of sitting 4 . . .http://aroundtheworldwithblade.wordpress.com/2014/02/22/vietnamese-suv-4-passenger-motor-bike/

  15. blade3colorado said, on February 22, 2014 at 6:11 pm

Colvin? Sure why not . . . Dude is bi-polar, i.e., he is either Willie frickin’ Mays or Johnny Lemaster. No in between and you can take that to the bank. Just know he has a “pass due date” of no more than one month on his hot streaks.

  16. DJLoo said, on February 22, 2014 at 6:40 pm

I’m all in on Colvin. It’s HUGE!

  17. snarkk said, on February 22, 2014 at 6:56 pm

Any relation to Shawn Colvin — Tyler Came Home?…

I must be a fan! Barry IN as instructor with Kevin Mitchell rumours. I’m selling all me worldly possessions and moving to AZ. tomorrow.

    PS
nice to read this blog today, flavor, got some giggles, must be springtime

  20. Bozo said, on February 23, 2014 at 1:26 pm

Always seems like a good day to me when edd puts a post in a bottle and sends it across the pond. Winter is almost over Mr. eddacker, time to brush off the SF gear and get fired up for another season.
    Cheers buddy.

Scutaro still basically taking back treatments, not ground balls. I think my over/under games for him for the season just went down to 80. Now, Pagan has a stiff back…

Costello: I got a weak back.
Abbott: When did you get it?
Costello: Oh, about a week back.

This is an example of why I never cared for those two. Or Laurel & Hardy. Or any comedy team. What’s the deal with comedy teams, anyway? It’s like 2 comedians admitting they both suck so they just decide to team up and suck twice as much – or if their lucky half as much.

  24. zumiee said, on February 24, 2014 at 9:49 am

I have a pretty good Shawn Colvin/Emmylou Harris/Wavy Gravy story. I’ll tell it when I get more time.
