Wanting To Be More Than A Wild Card

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 12, 2014

There are a lot of games that, on paper, don’t really interest me.

Tonight is not one of those games….

Game on.

    Damn.

  2. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:29 pm

Coulda blown this puppy open, and didn’t. Not good…

  3. Alleykat said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:29 pm

Shit bases jammed, no outs, no runs, a bit painful to say the least.

    • DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:32 pm

Maybe it helps keep Bum focused.

  4. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:32 pm

    Ryu had “shoulder stiffness.”

  5. Alleykat said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:32 pm

Ryu more then likely had neck stiffness jerking his head back after every hit ripped hard off of him.

    • zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:33 pm

      🙂

      • Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:36 pm

        Or throat stiffness.

  6. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:35 pm

If Bum had hit his 3rd grandslam of the season, wouldn’t that have been about the most insane thing in the history of baseball? That would have been beyond epic.

  7. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:37 pm

Good to see MadBum doesn’t take his ABs back out to the mound.

  8. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:41 pm

Nice curveball. Big K on VanSlyke.

  9. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:42 pm

So the most insane thing in the history of baseball remains Elster hitting 3 HRs in the opening game of AT&T Park. (Pac Bell Park in those days.)

    • DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:46 pm

That is definitely up there, zum…

    • Flavor said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:51 pm

      impossible to argue. Great point.

  10. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 8:54 pm

Man, the Dodgers have a .185-hitting catcher. Ellis used to be able to hit. I wonder what happened to him?

  11. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:00 pm

That AB lasted longer than Ryu’s outing.

  12. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Turner’s been a tough out this season. Has an OBP of about .390.

  13. Alleykat said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:02 pm

    Thanks Gonzalez!!

  14. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:03 pm

You could really see the difference in Puig that inning. Bum hung a slider down the middle to him, and Puig hit a groundball single. Puig was crushing that kind of pitch 420 feet earlier in the season.

  15. willedav said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:03 pm

Love to watch Bum pound those RH inside on the hands.
Little stress there, but nice shut down game so far.

  16. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:09 pm

This pitcher seems to come pretty close to not coming to a stop with his hands…

  17. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:14 pm

    Crawdaddy!

  18. willedav said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:15 pm

    Bottom of order rules.

  19. Alleykat said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:15 pm

.Pitcher Tony Collanger’s (sp?)RBI’s 2 grand slams in one game against the Giants was pretty insane as well,
    Brandon Crawford!!!
    Smokin the HR!!

  20. Alleykat said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:17 pm

So much for Frias owing us, as Mudbug would say..

  21. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:19 pm

I’m getting the Doghair TV feed. Vinny is in good form.
“A healthy Pagan makes the Giants a much better team”.
Succinct, accurate, objective. At 86 or whatever, he still gets it done better than just about all…

  22. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:23 pm

Sellout with 41,147 paid. That’s fewer than some of the bogus sellouts we’ve seen. WTF?…

    • zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:26 pm

Every team can set the number of what they will consider a sell-out. It doesn’t have to match the number of seats. So, all the teams can have suspect sell-out numbers. The Giants haven’t said what their “sell-out number” is. MLB lets the teams do this.

  23. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:23 pm

    Van SlyKe.

  24. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:24 pm

    Van Stryke.
    9 pitches. 9 strikes. 3 Ks. That’s pretty impressive.
I’d shave that skraggly ass beard, were I him…

  25. eddacker said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:29 pm

ESPN has just announced on their Sports Center: “we are about to have a one game difference in the NL West”.
    Tell MadBum he can chill.

    • snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:32 pm

Surprised ESPN is paying attention to this game. Isn’t a Jetergasm going on somewhere?…

  26. stickman said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:30 pm

Biggest differences between the two lineups is that the LaBumbos are getting most of their production from three or four key players who receive huge paychecks. Giants are more balanced. Consider the RBI night that our Scorpion, the stinger at the tail, batting 7th and more recently mostly 8th, has had. Don;t know how to research it but i would suspect that CrawDaddy, now at 62 RBI’s has one of the highest totals of any NLer consistently hitting so low in the order. AL stats would not count because of their silly Dink Hitter rule.

  27. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:33 pm

How did Pence hit that for a knock? His swing was totally discumbobulated, weight and balance totally messed up. Still punched it to RF. Nice…

    • zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:36 pm

One of the sportswriters called him a “washing-machine in a phone booth.”

      • Alleykat said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:43 pm

        Good analogy.
I sometimes think Pence swings like the Tasmanian Devil also..

  28. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:38 pm

“Correia knows how to pitch in this ballpark.” Kruk must’ve missed Correia’s 4.51 career ERA at AT&T.

  29. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:39 pm

Adrian Peterson arrested for child abuse. More bad news for the NFL. Peterson whipped his 4-year old with a switch he took off a tree, and put bloody welts all over his son’s legs. The boy’s mom took him to the hospital, and the police were called.

  30. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:43 pm

MadBum might get close to 300 Ks by the time this one’s over.

  31. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:48 pm

That whistling sound you hear is Ray Fosse’s ego deflating.

  32. stickman said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:50 pm

At 97 pitches with 6 outs to go, will BB15 keep Bumgarner in there to maintain his running 3-hit shutout?

    • zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:51 pm

It looks like he’s done. He was getting congratulatory handshakes and hugs in the dugout.

    • DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:53 pm

      I wouldn’t.

    • Alleykat said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:54 pm

      Freaking Ishikawa ”
      Splash Bomb”

  33. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:53 pm

    Ishi splash!

  34. DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:53 pm

    Mercy rule!

    • Alleykat said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:57 pm

Not till Kuiper hits his second in the cove Loo!!!

  35. DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:55 pm

    Time to unveil Baby Bochy?

  36. zumiee said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:55 pm

    Ha!!! Why not?!!!

  37. unca_chuck said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:55 pm

    Yowza! Splash baby!

  38. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:55 pm

Ishi – hits it to the Fishis!…
Ya gotta luv a kick ass on the Doghairs…

  39. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:56 pm

    Ishi-kayak?

  40. paulinasia said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:56 pm

    Splashikawa. Nice.

  41. unca_chuck said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:56 pm

    SplIshi splash

  42. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:57 pm

    NOW, I remember Correia…

  43. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:58 pm

As for Morse, he can take his time nursing that oblique…

    • stickman said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:00 pm

Yeah. Return of the Prodigal Sons: Ishi 3 – Correia 0.

  44. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:59 pm

    How’s about a Timmeh appearance?…

  45. stickman said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:59 pm

Guess both Zumiee and Ishiee answered my question as to whether Bumgarner would pitch the 8th.

  46. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 9:59 pm

I’d rather see Bochy’s kid than Gutierrez.

    • DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:00 pm

      I’d rather see Bochy’s dad than Gutierrez…

  47. paulinasia said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:01 pm

Looks like that questionable replay challenge in the 1st inning ended up not mattering one iota… 🙂

    • DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:14 pm

      What exactly is an iota?
And how come they never seem to matter?

      • paulinasia said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:16 pm

The fact that you don’t know what one is indicates just how little they matter.

  48. unca_chuck said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:02 pm

Shouldn’t Susac be in there as well?

    • DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:04 pm

And deprive Buster of the chance to get his brains rattled again?

      • snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:06 pm

Make Buster earn his paycheck, I guess.
Vinny on the Farmer John feed is even questioning why Posey is still in there…

  49. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:05 pm

A’s go belly up again, 4-2 in Seattle. Epic collapse going on over there…

  50. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:07 pm

So the Giants teed off on the South Korean and Correia.

  51. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:11 pm

And, why not spell Pence for one inning? Perez, Gary Brown, whomever…

    • DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:15 pm

      Got your wish!

  52. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:16 pm

How many $millions/year is Kemp not earning now?…

  53. sportdude said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:19 pm

Huge win. Timmy should pitch 9th. some day one of our guys is going to come out after 3 and we are going to need him…

    • DJLoo said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:20 pm

I think it would be degrading.

  54. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:19 pm

Not only do the Giants beat the snot-rockets out of L.A., but look who owns a better record than the A’s.

  55. paulinasia said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:20 pm

“We score (first), we win”….. that’s about as good as anyone could’ve asked for game 1. Keep on truckin’…

  56. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:20 pm

    That was almost 2 EZ.
    I’d like a repeat please, tomorrow night…

  57. Macdog said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:20 pm

    MadBum: I’m Eighteen (and nine).

  58. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:21 pm

Bum in his young career now 11-4 lifetime vs Bums…

  59. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:23 pm

Gutierrez threw some nice hooks there at the end. Maybe that’ll help him get some mojo back. I like how Bochy let him get well there…

  60. snarkk said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:25 pm

    Great win.
    Gnite Flappers…

  61. salty said, on September 12, 2014 at 10:48 pm

And now I want a sweep and regain first.

  62. eddacker said, on September 13, 2014 at 7:24 am

very nice line in the box score this am:
    ” a-Homered for Bumgarner in the 7th.”
bum out with under a hundred and ishi finally gets his splash hit.
Orange and Black – On A Roll

  63. willedav said, on September 13, 2014 at 7:31 am

Last regular flap post (Salty) 10:48.
Last Rooster post 7:42. Must have been late dinner party.

Appears Ryu suffering from same shoulder discomfort that caused him to miss 3 weeks earlier…hmmn. LA Times article said the Frias kid might take his place in rotation.
Hopefully, when we get the last Rooster post, no one takes his place.

    • willedav said, on September 13, 2014 at 9:21 am

Haven’t had a Bozo post in quite a while either. Hope everything is OK in Carolina land, and you are enjoying Giants run along with rest of us.

  64. dirtnrocksnomo said, on September 13, 2014 at 7:52 am

Madison Bumgarner is younger than all 10 of the players the Giants called up for expanded rosters in September. He’s also awesome.

  65. paulinasia said, on September 13, 2014 at 9:46 am

Craig…. it’s 9:45 on Sat. morning in Cali, wake up! 🙂 going on 1am Sunday morning in China, and I’m heading to bed. What a tremendous weekend for Giants baseball. So many things to talk about. I’ve gotten into reading the Dodgers page of the LA Times online, and here’s an interesting story, if Flappers haven’t seen it:

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/dodgersnow/la-sp-dn-dodgers-giants-rivalry-respect-20140912-story.html.

Game 2: Greinke hasn’t lost to the Giants. apparently ever. Hudson is really hungry for a World Series ring. Crawford, LA’s hottest hitter, sat against Big Country but will play on Saturday. And the fun continues….

    • zumiee said, on September 13, 2014 at 10:23 am

Nice column from the LA Times, thanks!
I had to chuckle when he referred to the Giants fans as the “world’s most obnoxious fans,” because it’s just funny how everybody thinks everybody else’s teams have the most obnoxious fans.
