Losing With Less Than You Best
Not a lot to say about this weekend series vs the Padres. It’s difficult to win when you are playing your bench players. And Belt just isn’t ready to be out there. But it is what it is.
Me? I’m watching football today.
I think it would be borderline stupid not to start Lincecum once or twice and give old man Hudson River a little extra rest before the playoffs that they should damn well have locked up.
Doesn’t help when Pence and Pablo are both hitting .200.
Amidst all the euphoria of rocks beating dodgers, I was worried about the friars in their kennel.
As for Belt, they have to play him if they want him ready for a possible postseason run.
Sorry that’s .200 for sept
Choosing handegg over Vogelscheiße suggests a lack of faith, or could it be simple petulance?
you’re re-posting the same shit, dawg. Tighten up your troll game.
I will be in the house for today’s game and will meet up with none other than James himself while there. Hopefully, we can deliver a victory and keep the division race alive.
ove to be there with you guys and grab some fish tacos at Tin Fish…
Chris Dominguez in LF? OK, whatever. Boy, they must really hate Brown. Why bring him up, just so they can let him stew and get more PO’d? At least Perez isn’t out there. I would put Ishi in LF, he had a good string of ABs going. Dominguez out there doesn’t make sense to me, regardless of who’s pitching. 3 MLB at bats, 2 double plays. Yeah, he’s got MLB experience over Brown, but 3 ABs worth, and he’s not near the defensive OFer. Anyway, I’m a little peeved at Bochy and management. They tried to rush Morse back, yesterday with an AB, so now he’s headed back to SF for an MRI again. Stupid. I said early on an oblique takes quite a while — up to 4 weeks. But, no. They, try to get him out there early — for what? To make sure he aggravates it and is done for the season? He’s probably done for the regular season, and maybe the playoffs. And, Pagan was probably rushed back, too. He’s headed up to LA to see the back doctor again — Watkins. If he needs another epidural, fuhgeddaboudit. He could be done for the rest of the season, maybe the playoff(s). The medical management on this club is awful. With Voggy going today, Bochy needs to pull out all the stops to win this game. Imperative to win this one, else LA may end up clinching the dang division against the Giants…
Brewers Gomez is an IDIOT.
VSong 9.37/era at Petco?
Bochy better have a quick hook with Voggy today…
Snarkk, I can see wanting Ishikawa off the bench. He’s really doing well in that roll. I agree with you on Brown though. Operation Dick Around.
Pirates with the win. Pence, Posey, Sandoval gotta lead this. Let’s go Giants!
Nobody in this San Diego lineup hitting over .266…
Say hi to James for us Dawg. Shot. One of 3 from the Pods???? Slip sliding away.
Nice start Vogelsong. Hopefully he can keep the pitch count down going forward.
Krukow made me laugh at the beginning of the game. He said something like “When Vogelsong’s hitting all 4 corners of the strikezone, he’s very effective.”
I’m pretty sure any pitcher in the history of baseball is effective when they’re hitting all 4 corners of the strikezone.
Goodell has offically ruined football. Every play deserves an illegal use of hands penalty, and every pass has illegal contact.
he’s not handling the rest of football too well, either….
I’m glad Posey got a hit, but nothing else about that made sense to me. The ump ends the perfect game try on an extremely close call at first. And then Bud Black doesn’t challenge the call. What else do the Pads have to play for except the guy’s no-hitter and/or perfect game chance? The Giants aren’t exactly tearing it up this series.
Friggin Blanco, up 2-0 in the count with bags loaded and he swings at a nipple high ball…
When was the last time somebody hitting .000 got an IBB?
About that time that Voggy starts getting dodgy…
you called it; PHUCK!!!
Game over
Where are all our Phellow Phlappers?
VogelSwansong
All ribbing aside bird…how do you assess the dodgers chances in the ps?
The only thing I did not want to see this coming week is the LA Bastards clinching the division against us. If things hold in SD, we will need to take 2 of 3 to prevent the clinch…
Instant replay time!
Sometimes I hate baseball.
Wow! Three consecutive posts at the Flap by non-Flappers. It’s the end of the world, I tell ya!*

Gonna be a long winter
Niners have that singletary 6-10 look about them.
The one thing the Giants could not do is get swept in Diego.
It looked all 3 games like they had been out late in the Gaslamp, and partied with the local talent all night long. No energy.
The division is effectively gone. The WC is out there, but they’ve got to get their S together to avoid a trip to Pittsburgh…
Craw must have had his wife with him, so passed on the Gaslight bar run.
Well, they did the best they were capable of.
they seem to be going through another of their unwatchable stages. ah well. get ’em tomorrow
Giants can’t score, and the Niners are in complete disarray. They blow another 2nd half lead and don;t score in the 2nd half.
I never even heard of Stanton. Is he good Chuck?
He is against the Niners…
Apparently he’s the 2nd coming of Joe. He hadn’t started in 4 years. His last start before last week was 2010 in Deetroit..
Your 1:48 post is spot on Chuck. I have had 5 friends email me regarding these ticky tacky penalties. Not only the 49er game, but all of the NFL.
Sounds like Santana is making excuses for his own piece of shit performance.

wow, not a dude to invite into your foxhole, apparently…..
So, Bochy has at least found a LFer. According to Brisbee, “He’s 27 and he strikes out enough to make Brett Pill look like Tony Gwynn. He’s kinda sorta intriguing because of his ability to hit dingers and play all over the field, but you have to realize his ceiling is Pedro Feliz without the same ability to make contact.”
at least ODB gives actual personal, independent opinions. All you do is re-post stupid internet memes and quote other people who you don’t even know. Form an actual personal opinion and present it. And make it interesting, 98% of other people’s shit that you post is boring beyond belief.
Giants suck. Niners suck. Raiders suck. Damn…… did I forget anyone?
Oh yeah CAL sucks.
New post on my blog . . .http://aroundtheworldwithblade.wordpress.com/2014/09/21/angkor-wat-national-museum-siem-reap/#more-5699
Well…the game sucked, but I did enjoy hanging out with James and hitting on several classic Flap topics with himn: Morse, Pagan–and his magical presence, Pablo, Timmy, and of course, Fred Lewis. We each had a top shelf Martini and chased it down with a tall Modelo.
Plus, we can both say we were there when Chris Dominguez hit his first major league homer (although I didn’t see it as I was at the bar ordering the aforementioned Modelos)
I think we get Haren tomorrow. Let’s take advantage of that and stop the bleeding.
The Niners lost, and some of the players are blaming the officials. Blaming the officials? I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell ya.
Where could the players have gotten the idea to blame officials?
The NIners are a hot mess right now. It’s hard to even find an interest in rooting for them considering the unending number of character felons on that team. Harbs is the worst. He set the tone for ranting like a fool about football penalties, then he looks the other way when these guys commit real-life penalties. As Niner fans, we get what we deserve and so does this team. I’m embarrassed to be a Niner fan today. Fuck Jim Harbaugh….
I (obviously) didn’t see the game, so your comment is interesting on a number of levels. My earlier post about penalties is more directed at Goodell and letting the teams play. Your point about Harbs citing penalities as the reason the Niners lost (or at least alluding to them), is ludicrous. Bill Walsh would never make excuses like that. The other thing about your post which is relevant is in regard to this team being a bunch of character defects. Sheesh, I really have to think hard to recall any of the “old” Niners getting into the type of trouble these idiots are getting into, e.g., hit and run driving, DUI, mentioning “gun” (or was it bomb?) in an airport, date rape, etc., etc. What a fiasco.
Well, this was a wonderful day of sports TV. Lets see…CK and Alex were both sharp, Dominguez left Earth…there are your highlights. I remember when Dominguez as drafted there were Big Sexy comps. Don’t know that I buy that but the guy should compete for a utility job.Yeah, I’m still a huge ASmith fan. Enough so that I’ll be conflicted when KC comes to town.
Question for Chuck- why did the Niners not even attempt to run the ball ?
Me too. I’ve always liked Smith. Related to Flavor’s post – the one guy who seems to be an upstanding guy, they get rid of? Like I said earlier, it is ludicrous on so many levels on what has happened to the Niners the last few years (despite their oustanding won/loss record . . . At what cost do fans accept this success?).
Last night, on the, get this- Madison Square Garden network or something like that, on Direct TV, there was a really cool Billy Joel concert, from this year in Rome, right in front of the Roman Colosseum. A spectacular location for a concert. It looked like it was probably a free concert, with about a zillion Italians filling the general area, and Joel was sounding absolutely great. I’ve never been to one of his concerts, but this is a terrific recording of one. The sound on the video was great, the band sounded terrific, and Joel was singing great, just cranking out great pop song after another.
I say all that to recommend it if you can find it.
I’m baffled, Mike . I wanted the Niners to use more 2,3,4 WR formations to unload the box and open up the run game and in turn get play action going. I didn’t think Harbaugh and Co would go all Mad Mike Martz in the process. They’ve looked great in the 1st half and like dogshit in the 2nd.
Believe it or not, the Niners have scored 59 points in the 1st half and 3 points in the 2nd half.
They’ve given up 16 points in the 1st half and 56 points in the 2nd half.
This smacks of being outcoached, Teams adjust to our game while we don’t adjust to theirs. 1-2. Just like last year.
I hope we finish strong.
wswins asked : “All ribbing aside bird…how do you assess the dodgers chances in the ps?”
When the ‘pen, specifically Howell and Wilson, coughed up the big lead against the Cubs yesterday, I sent a text to my Angel fan friend “Dodgers will not make the WS – they have no pitching depth.” This particular friend has been going on and on about a Dodgers-Angels freeway series. I don’t see it happening. Especially if Ryu can’t return and be effective. After Kershaw and Greinke, they are suspect. Besides Jansen, their ‘pen is underwhelming – they can look good some days, but not consistently enough for a serious WS run IMO.
Of course, it COULD happen, if they all put it together and suddenly rise to the occasion, but I’m not convinced. Although, with their offense suddenly catching fire – if they continue mashing the ball like they have been in September, maybe the pitching won’t need to be lights-out. But we all know, the teams the Dodgers have been fattening up on lately are not the same caliber they will be facing in the playoffs.
Good post.
Great job, Rooster!
that’s why I’ve always liked you– you’re not some brain dead fan….
