Earning Your Knowing Dude Head Nod
Everyone here at The Flap is familiar with the “Knowing Dude Head Nod.” It’s an interaction that 2 strangers wearing the same Giants gear might have in passing on the street. It’s always done silently. A fist bump or high five may accompany it. The phrase itself was popularized by our own Ted-Spe after we won the 2010 World Series. And for true Giants fans, it wasn’t just something we did. It was something we had earned. You root for a team that’s lost for 50 years, and then they finally win? That’s earned. And there is no championship harder to win in all of sports than baseball. That’s not even arguable. In any given year, to win the World Series, you have to win significantly more games throughout the season and the playoffs than any other sport….
While I was doling out my coveted head nods this week to the worthy, I thought of what it must be like to be a Royals fan right now. They must be positively giddy. They don’t know what a knowing dude head nod is. Right now, they’re doing an “Excited Guy Hello!!!!!!” that includes vigorous waving. Make no mistake, they’re nodding. But there’s nothing cool or knowing about it. On closer inspection they aren’t really nodding, their whole body is shaking with excitement. Their face is locked in a perma-smile and their gaze is at least a thousand yards. Combine that with the brand spanking new merchandise they’re rockin’, and there just isn’t a single thing “knowing” or “dude-like” about them.
But that could change. If they win, they’ll finally “know.” They’ll chill the fuck out and an organic “knowing dude head nod” will begin to evolve in the fan base.
Now, I don’t think that’s going to happen. My guess is that Royals fans are gonna be bathed in their brand new baby blues while they helplessly watch us win our third world championship in the last five years. After that, the only blues left will be the ones they’re singing……..
And our nod just gets stronger. It’s gets more knowing. Enjoy the game tonight. This is our time….

Ho Hum – another WS game win. Brilliant Baseball Babylon
Quick show of hands–who is down with Timmy pitching the 9th?
(crickets)
π
LOL
I would let him start it…first runner on and you get the hook…
I would be down with that. If Timmeh cruised through them 3 up and down, that would seal the beat down with emphasis…
I’m down with but it’s probably gonna be Strichnyne.
Lopez’ game checks only get cashed by left handed bank tellers…
LoL
Memo to Aoki . . . It’s a bat, not a samurai sword.
Fucking A…what a great DP! Giants are clicking on all cylinders tonight boys.

itβs made worse for me by the cheering giants fans in my office π¦

Bahaha.
I love this shit. Where is Rooster? Sandy? Obi Wan? Maalox? HAHAHAHAHA! π
Rooster is on his Winter-long dinner, as usual……
The bird seed must be especially good this time of the year. Ha.
I sit next to a woman who is a huge dodger fan. I took her on bets on season series and packers-Niners last years (she is a big pack fan, too). I have been pretty light on her…she knows not to start with me. She was all talking shit when the bums won the West and were still in the mix. That was then…this is now…
This Royals guy must be their Timmeh…
Love to see Belt drop a 3 run bomb here…
Giants fans have silent “knowing dude head nods.” Dodger, KC, et. al. fans – talk smack, then high tail it when their team face plants.
Yeah, poor Phlabby has nowhere to troll . . .
I’m ready to see some of Strickland’s insanity heat…
Thus begins Hunter’s training as a closer via Bruce and Dave. Bochy is thinking 2015 already.
π
I don’t know man. The “Strickland-Closer-2015” campaign has lost a lot of steam the last couple of weeks.
He’ll probably rest everybody for 2016…
The Royal’s fielders have learned that the Kauffman Stadium balls bounce differently during a WS.
Strickland’s learning how to pitch to LHB’s using that slider. Nice right there…
Certainly the Series has a ways to go, but so far, I’m not embarrassed that I don’t know who these Royals are. If they don’t play better, I might not see enough games to learn their names…
Ballgame!
Hunter looking sweet here
The ever important first game win!!!
One down . . .
BTW. My ego is a little shattered right now so I’ll take this opportunity to remind ya’ll, βKnowing Dude Head Nod.β was my term. These Giants…what for to say? Strickland is perfect for a game like this. Mofo could have given up 4 HR’s and they’d still win. But didn’t happen. Strickland did it and MadBum gets the effing win. 6-3 in the post season. Fuck yeah!!
I bow your general direction Mr. tedspe.
Absolutely, ted…we’re not worthy…we’re not worthy.
Thanks assho…gentlemen. Just having a bad day
I’d like 3 more beat downs, pleez…
Got the first one.
Go Giants.
Beautiful. Got in the win column right off the bat. Snapped their steak. Got a road win.
Good developments, all. G’night Gents.
Damn. If he can throw that slider like that all the time, Hunter’s gold.
Yeah, that’s the deal with Strickland. When he gets more confidence in that slider, he’ll be unhittable. Plus, he’s got a show me split that he’s working on. Add that in the mix, and it’s Robb Nenn territory…
Damn, that was an easy game. No torture at all. π
Big Game Jane goes down in flames. All business baby
Good call dirt. I kept flashing back on that as he did the meltdown.
Big Game Jane…love it, Dirt.
We Score (First) We Win. Agree…ever so important 1st game win…and in their house. FUCK YEAH!
I don’t think I said this is I the past two World Series….but HUMMM BABBBYYYY!!!!
I remember rooting for the Royals against the Cards (easy call) in ’85; and also wanting them to knock off those cocky Phillies in ’80, was it? But those ’80 Royals just didn’t even show up. Wonder if the same will happen to this bunch. These loose giddy happy young jack rabbits have just been frozen in the middle of the road by Giant headlights…
“Nite all . . . Starting my day here in ‘Nam. Sweet dreams to all!
Fucking Blade. Luv you, man
Feelings are mutual Ted . . . For all you guys as well!
Go Gigantes! π
Giants.
They keep groovin’ and provin’.
WTF NOT?…
Ain’t no reason…absolutely no VALID reason. Fuck Yeah!
“These loose giddy happy young jack rabbits have just been frozen in the middle of the road by Giant headlights⦔ Good one, Paul.
POTD…
Before game 1 I thought a sweep was possible. We win tomorrow it will be a sweep…
well begun is half done.
Could you imagine waiting 29 years for your first World Series (not to mention playoff) appearance, dropping four figures for a seat in the nosebleeds, and then seeing your team get shut down like that? That sucks.
Yes.
Thoroughly enjoyable to contemplate!
That would suck. Sucks for those Royal fans…but hey, comes with the territory…unless you are a Giant fan.
Great move by the Master Yoda Bochy, bringing in the future closer ” Strikeland” to seal the deal, just a big confidence builder for the kid in a non pressure situation .”In Bochy we trust” !!! 1 down 3 to go!!!!
Nice insight.
Agreed. He found a way to get a lefty out, using the slider. He gets a feel for that 87 mph slider, and keep that inside on lefties, that’s hard to deal with, then flamethrow a heater on the outside corner…
Yep…perfect call on 15’s part…and Strickland did his part marvelously, too.
Good point AK.
that’s 1 beatches. I love how nobody understands what’s happening but us……
Tale of the pitch count: 129 -177. That stat may be every bit as telling as the final score. Giants typify the NL’s emphasis on pitching. Few walks. Not many hits given up. Occasional gopher balls. Rarely blown out. Kansas City came into this series badly overmatched because of playing half their games in the relatively sloppily pitched AL Central. Seeing both the LaBumbos and Pads on a frequent basis Giants hitters are schooled in tough pitching.
Bumgarner-Lopez-Strickland. Kinda unfair in a way. Lopez was particularly stringent tonight, throwing only 9 pitches in his stingy eighth. Duffy got used up pretty heavy in his 3 IP, 59 pitch relief stint. Like for both Washington and St. Louis, game two in their own venue becomes pretty much a time of desperation as hitting in perhaps the most AL unfriendly of all NL parks for the next two or three games over the coming weekend without so much as a DH looms as a visit to one of the Painted Ladies doubling as a haunted mansion as we segue into Halloween Machine season. Adding insult to injury the Royals will find themselves as little blue and white dots cast in a sea of the colors of the season.
Will the Royal coach turn into a pumpkin? Tune in for the next installment tomorrow night.
Another gem, Stix.
That interview with Bum was fucking classic! Fuck Fox for only showing it on Fox fucking 1.

Which year was the worst for you?
2010, 2012, or this year?
by doscinco on Oct 21, 2014 | 7:57 PM up reply
they all suck and are painful
this year might be the worst of all though, because at least in 2010 I could say, well that was their first one, theyβve been starved forever and let em have it. the 2nd one sucked more because theyβd already won and enough already. this year will suck the most, in part because i really thought it would be the Dodgers instead.
Itβs just the worst.
by underdog on Oct 21, 2014 | 8:00 PM up reply
2010 was the worst
I did not know how to handle all that winning from the Giants. All my Giants fan friends were quick to remind me how much Andres fucking Torres was outplaying Matt Kemp that season. The future for the Dodgers was bleak, as well.. it was the season before Kershaw and Kempβs breakout season and they were bankrupt. I was remember being slightly (depressed?) for few days.
I am use to the even year BS now at least
by doscinco on Oct 21, 2014 | 8:09 PM up reply
I could almost beat off to this. Relax, I said ‘almost”
At least get the Saran Wrap out… π
hahahaha
Good to see ya here, Ted!…
Dodger resignation to Giant domination. Love it…
LMAO…I love this shit…keep it rolling Zume…
Fuck it, I can beat off to this. Ha! π
I love it.
Passan on Yahoo summarizing how the Giants got to this World Series: “San Francisco played its humdrum self, gliding to its third World Series in five years with just enough hitting and an excess of pitching.” Humdrum, huh…. this kind of dissing used to piss me off, but now I love it….
Paul, trying to contact you on YM.
Just let them all keep talking shit…I will be laughing my ass off all the way down Market Street!
2 WS wins in 5 seasons a fact, a 3rd looking really possible.
I almost feel guilty feeling this good about the Giants. But, then I think of all the wilderness years rooting for the Giants when they stunk on ice. So, phuck it. I’m basking in this Golden Time right now, tonight and as long as possible…
Me too. In fact, I’ll have 2 of what you just said!
Yep…just rewind to ’85 and the other wasteland years back then…2010 was a long time coming…bask away FU…bask away…
I’m so fucking jacked
GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m tellin’ you dudes, when the Giants get at least one HR, it is huge huge for this squad. An early one seems to just loosen up the bats and gets them unhinged to do some damage…
Somebody may have said this, but Strickland looks like Eastwood in High Plains Drifter. If he came onto the mound wearing one of those long, leather Cowboy duster coats, it’d be eerie…
hahahaha
Credit where credit is due. Great to see you here, Ted…
Idiotic of me to comment. Flav already credited me. But thank you
Nothing idiotic about it at all…you own that piece of Flapdom…
You DA man Ted!
OK, just heard dude starting tomorrow night for the Royals is a flamethrower. I’m cool with that. He may throw gas, but I’d rather the Giants face a guy that throws hard cheese than a junk baller. If they get up early again, some Royal ass will start to pucker big time…
Series us over if SF comes back to Phone park 2-0.
*is
I watched the game with my daughter, 17, at her house. #grateful Lots of catching up to do here. That’s okay.
Cool. My older 15 1/2 year old snarkette had a girlfriend over tonight for dinner. She’s a Giants fan, and plays catcher on a girls softball club team now, in Fall. Varsity on the girls team in Spring. She was diggin’ the Giants winning. Funny, and great kid. Had some kiwi fruit and cookies for dessert — she’d never had kiwi?!! Loved the kiwi. Her older sister got some kind of softball scholarship to Stanfoo. Even as a Cal guy, that sounds pretty dang good. When her Mom came to pick her up, when she got in the car I handed her a kiwi for the road. She laughed her butt off. I may have dropped a gall bladder, but these kids are keeping me young … π
They way they’ve been rollin’ through this post season, I’m almost glad they DON’T have Pagan now.
WTF?…
Gregor Blanco
Yeah, he seems to be contributing more than his stats show. Not sure how. His postseason stats are ooogly. But, he’s playing top D, and comes through occasionally at the plate…
Bum has now given up just one run in 32 2/3 total post season innings. That’s essentially 4 1/2 games. An MLB record. That’s crazy good…
I’m frankly surprised. A blowout. Looks like the Kansas City mayor’s going to have to come and sing with the Glide Memorial with a bucketful of outstanding BBQ ribs
Fuck it. Good win. Looking forward to being with the usual gang of idiots this Friday and/or Saturday at a place to be determined.
I love youse guys.
I mean that in a good way
As my on and off cutie Vietnamese girlfriend says…”99″
Apparently, that means, in like weird tweety, texty, cool person stigmata… “Night, night”… which, of course means, “Good night” which means, you know, like…uhm…
Goodnight, gentlemen (?)
Yeah, they do that. Sometimes they also say “7 7″….. 7 in VNmese is bai, so, 7 7 is… bye bye…. Very cute.
Good stuff re: sharing the moments with your kids. I remember watching them clinch the 2010 pennant with my daughter…and have a picture of us hugging and balling our eyes out. You just cannot buy memories like these.
Onward.
Another game tomorrow. One at a time, again.
G’nite Flappers…
Good night, Tom. Good night Flap Universe.
Orange and Black and Don’t Look Back…
Great game. On Track to have mad Bum close it out…
G’night, girls.
It’s not surprising that we’re underdogs year after year. Bochy preps for the postseason from Day one. His patience pays off when the guys he stuck with come up big.None of the experts think of Blanco, Arias, Perez, Ishi- the game is all about the stars to much of the media whereas the postseason is won by a 25 man team, not 3 or 4 guys. Juan hasn’t done anything sexy- he’s just helped win games quietly. Ishi was a *little* louder but how big was it that Bochy trusted a 4 time castoff to start in the playoffs? This a team game and we’ve fielded the best team. and the best manager
You guys are all asleep (sans PaulinAsia and maybe Nipper), but I love reading these posts while the rest of you are in dreamland . . . Nice summary Twin – love the last sentence. Dream on Flappers . . . Undoubtedly, we will turn those dreams into another World Series win. π

11:20pm Wed. night, Saigon: Just back from a friendly bar after a beer or two (me) and water or two (Steve) and looking forward to waking up at 7am again to catch the game. It really could still go different ways, but it’s so strongly feeling natural and inevitable….. as Joe (less than a) Buck said before, “And the Giants just keep rolling”…. Hmm, maybe Timmy is contributing in some small way afterall… rolling…. Anyway. There was talk on some blogs about Tim should’ve pitched the 9th. Nah…. IF he’s going to get in a game, it’s going to be at home, and probably at the unlosable end of a game that wraps up the championship…. that would be cool. Enjoy your day, FU, catch you here in about 8 hours….
