A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

I still don’t have words to describe this. So here’s a video. Of me listening to the radio.

I couldn’t take watching the game anymore so I went out to my car in the driveway, in the dark, to listen to the Perez at bat.

It ended the way I wanted it to….

Congrats to the 2014 Giants. This was the most amazing ride of them all. GO GIANTS!

  6. unca_chuck said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:03 pm

Good gravy. I thought Bochy was nuts to stick with Bummie for 4, let alone 5.

My son nearly died when Blanco butchered that single.

We were yelling so much the coyotes joined us.

Amazing thing is that the Giants won all the marbles once again with only one effective starting pitcher and without their sparkplug leadoff man. Getting into the Post-Season was all it took ~ that and one whole hairy helluva lot of moxie and magic ~ one HOF bound manager and that one effective starter being well on his way to a HOF career at the ancient age of 25.

Greatest lead ever Craig! Just fucking awesome. I think we all reacted the same way.

I have to give major props to FOX on their camera work. They had some incredible angles on these close plays. If not for them, there is no way in hell that Panik play gets overturn. That may have been the difference in the game.

Seventy-six trombones led the big Parade.
Right down Market Street they crept.
Big Country boy from Bumtown played
His Royal Flush and down and out they swept.

  13. Alleykat said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:11 pm

“Undertaker”was so dominant he retired more hitters in relief then Peavy& Hudson retired in starts for gm 6 & 7!!!
Just a performance for all-time in baseball W/S center stage!!!

The radio. Perfect. TedSpe or someone here in the past year or so described the need to listen on the radio because it was tense in a game during the season. The radio. Old-school. Epic. Profanity aside, put it in the aural scrapbook.

Break out the suran wrap. Giants are world champions!

It was past 0430 when I wound down after Ishi’s homer. Can’t do that again! That’s another thing. I wanted us to win for Huddy and for the poetic coda to Ishi’s blast. And because. Because I’m a Giants fan.

    • Flavor said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:20 pm

your post with my post just before, next to each other, just made me smile Pawlie…..

  19. stickman said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:19 pm

Juan Marichal may have just stepped down a notch or two among all-time Giants pitching heroes. If fact Christy Mathewson may have just dropped down into second place. In fact James Garner will no longer be the most famous member of the clan from Bumtown, Carolina. Baseball history was made tonight.

    • Lurker John said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:26 pm

Heck yeah. As great as the Big Six was he only won the one World Series.

  20. stickman said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:24 pm

The odds are not so even in those even years. Even those two teams from Missouri misery eventually came to realize that the Halloween Machine has ownage on TEN, TWELVE, FOURTEEN. Will the string continue in ’16? Vegas probably is already setting their odds on the evens.

  21. wswins said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:27 pm

    2010-2012-2014….YES YES YES!

  22. Flavor said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:28 pm

so maybe I’m just buzzed, but if you watch that video I posted, right before the final out, the light on my porch starts to turn into a face, almost like a pumpkin and it starts nodding yes (like a knowing dude head nod)–I guess I was moving the camera, didn’t mean to.
Next pitch we win. Check it out. That is fucking WEIRD!!!!!!!!

  23. Nipper said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:30 pm

MadBum what a hero! All the other pitchers pale in comparison. Damn what a guy!

  24. blade3colorado said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:34 pm

I feel relieved and good for Blanco. He must have felt a “Giant” burden being lifted after Pablo made the last out.

    • Alleykat said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:47 pm

      Yeah couldn’t agree more Blade.
I’m sure Blanco was chewing all the cowhide out of his glove, and kissed it after Panda’s ketch.
Nobody wants to be Bill Buckner( between the 5 hole)Preston Riley( football on side flub) etc etc

  25. Alleykat said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:39 pm

No superstition for me, been drinking Crown Royal on the rocks tonight.
I might have been buzzed, but I thought I heard Joe Buck say Giants have a dynasty going here.
Well of course WE ALL KNOW THAT, but coming out of his mouth makes it even more humbling & satisfied.

  26. snarkk said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:43 pm

Trying to process this whole deal.
No championship for 56 years, 52 in SF, then 3 in just 5 years?
    Incredible…

  27. pawliekokonuts said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:45 pm

Yeah. After the Blanco miscue, it was, all or nothing with MadBum. That took guts…and we are lucky it wasn’t an inside the park HR. In fact, I thought it was. Crazy close. That would have been some sour ending to MadBum’s night. Whew. Happy that Blanco escaped the ignominy.

    • Lurker John said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:54 pm

I was thinking the same thing, especially after Perez booted the ball along the wall.

  28. pawliekokonuts said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:45 pm

    Hard to fathom,

  29. wswins said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:48 pm

I think it was in the first couple of games I saw Panik make a shovel play to first base with the ball in his glove and I said Panik has panache. In all my years, I’ve never seen a backhanded shovel play to start a double play. That was the play that started me thinking we’re going to win it.

    • blade3colorado said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:54 pm

“Willie Mays running forever in 1954, Brooks Robinson on Lee May in 1970, Graig Nettles for the Yankees in 1978, Devon White’s fabulous grab for the Blue Jays in 1993 … this play by Panik was right up there.”

  30. Lurker John said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:56 pm

Panik’s play was indescribable. Defensive play of the series if you ask me.

  31. paulinasia said, on October 29, 2014 at 9:59 pm

2010 was just pure joy, childlike, in a way. 2012 was life affirming, yep, it was no fluke 2 years before. 2014? I didn’t think it was possible, but this one’s the best in its own way. How do they do that? How do they *improve* each championship experience? How do we not feel jaded or ho hum, another championship? It is ours alone. The rest of the country, all of those who seemingly overwhelmingly wanted KC to win, will never get it. In fact, i don’t think any other fan base has had this kind of experience with its team. Yankees winning all the time in the mid to late 90s? No way. Red Sox winning 3 in 10 years? Also no way. This is ours alone. Wow. Un-fucking-believable.

    • blade3colorado said, on October 29, 2014 at 10:10 pm

Wonderful post Paul. Agree, that our experience has been unique. No comparison. This team particularly has dumbfound me the entire season. I had NO expectations of a World Series. Sort of like the little train that could. Still processing it like many others are . . .

      • paulinasia said, on October 29, 2014 at 10:29 pm

i’d like to think our model friend at Xu bar, strutting around in Giants’ gear, had something to do with it… πŸ™‚

      • blade3colorado said, on October 29, 2014 at 10:33 pm

No doubt. I sent her the photos earlier. She was still surprised (and delighted) about wearing the T-shirt last night.

Being an adult sucks sometimes. Had a meeting I couldn’t miss. My daughter sent text updates and then my phone blew up! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe that THIS team won the WS after the July August months. Unreal unbelievable. Pure Joy again!!!!

  33. sportdude said, on October 29, 2014 at 10:23 pm

And so happy to be sharing this at the Flap again. My lasting memory from 2010 is going on the flap and watching Craig on video….Did that just happen?…Yes it did Craig, and again, and again…

  34. unca_chuck said, on October 29, 2014 at 10:41 pm

This by far is the most unlikely championship by just about any team. We had to burn Bummie just to earn the right to play a series with the best team in the NL. Cake. Roll the Cards? Check. Outlast the Royals? BINGO!!!!!

    • snarkk said, on October 29, 2014 at 10:48 pm

If you look at this roster, at the starters tonight, you’ve gotta shake your head at how they got it done.
Defense, timely hits by the big guys, and outrageous shut down pitching by Affeldt and Bum. Bum better put that arm in an oxygen chamber for the next month…

  35. unca_chuck said, on October 29, 2014 at 10:57 pm

So.Bummie gets the save and Affeldt gets the win. Whatever. CHAMPS!!!!!!!

    • Alleykat said, on October 29, 2014 at 11:03 pm

Really they should have gave Bum the win and the save!!
      That unbelievable effort deserves both!!

  36. Alleykat said, on October 29, 2014 at 11:10 pm

So is Madison Bumgarner gonna be our closer next year as well as our #1 starter?

  37. chipower9 said, on October 29, 2014 at 11:27 pm

Blue screened computer today (dropped it off at the shop this morn). Wound around the axle during the game. So many emotions and things to share…and I could not respond to a text, or answer a call tonight (except for one call from my daughter).

But, most importantly, FU was in my heart and on my mind. I thought about you all and was with you all in heart, spirit, and soul. You Know Who You are, Flappers.

I received the Giant flag today that I had I ordered a couple of weeks ago. An Omen? You bet your sweet ass it was! My daughter and I have a room booked on Market and will be same place we were for the 2012 parade. And the flag will be flying LOUD AND PROUD.

BIG LOVE to FU! We have the Motherfucking Champion Blood!

    2010 – 2012 – 2014

Awesome radio clip, BF. Fantastic evening. How great it is to be a Giants fan!!! Congrats to the Giants and the fans. Somehow we hung in there for decades, through a lot of near-misses, and we get rewarded with 3 championships in 5 years. THANK YOU, GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And, oh yeah:
    World Series championships:
    Giants- 8
    Dodgers- 6

From the royalsreview.com website writer: “The Giants, winners of two of the previous four World Series, defeated the Royals in seven games, pulling off a sucker-punch victory in front of a desperate, rabid home crowd. Bumgarner crushed the dreams of a million with his left hand… Without Bumgarner, the Giants lose this World Series. With him, they crush the dreams of a devoted, hungry fanbase whose World Series drought will extend to 30 years at least. The San Fransisco Giants have won 3 of the past 5. The Kansas City Chiefs have not won a playoff game since 1994, and haven’t won a championship since 1969. The San Fransisco 49ers have won 5 Super Bowls since then and have appeared in 6. Life is not fair…” Life is good in the Bay Area.

Oh, and, loved the video clip of Pablo catching the last out, falling on his back in utter joy and lying there for a couple of seconds…. before being swept up in the onrushing Giants storming the field, practically picking Pablo up and carrying him along like a wave…. that’s how these guys just … kept… winning… wave upon wave.

    • zumiee said, on October 30, 2014 at 12:51 am

The KC fans were probably only vaguely aware of Bumgarner before this Series. He was a force of nature in this Series.
