Guessing the Starting 8 HR Total

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 2, 2015

How many home runs do you think this crew will hit? 100? That’s what Kuip said on the radio today. Here’s my quick take:

Pagan: 4

Aoki: 2

Belt: 20

Pence: 20

McGehee: 7

Crawford: 15

Posey: 23

Panic: 12

Apparently, I’m going with 103

    Pagan: 6
    Aoki: 4
    Belt: 25
    Pence: 24
    McGehee: 10
    Crawford: 12
    Posey: 22
    Panic: 6

    Total:109

If Maxwell displaces Aoki I’ll go with 120.

    Pagan – 7
    Aoki – 5
    Belt – 22
    Pence – 21
    McGehee – 11
    Craw – 9
    Posey – 24
    Panic – 10
    Total: 109

And if I am wrong, not a big deal, IMO. I do not think the long-ball is going to be that key with the team this year. I see them putting the ball in play regularly (hitting those spacious Phone Park gaps) and keeping the line moving, and to me, that is more important than the HRs.

Here are a couple of things I posted towards the end of the last thread, and I think you Flappers will find interesting:

The first is this article on Caballo Loco…discussing his relationship with Mays, among other things.

    http://tinyurl.com/mqyszpu

The other thing I heard on the local news last night during a story on the Giants upcoming season, etc., was that the ballpark will be paid off in two years.

I’ll see your 103 and raise it.
      Pagan – 11
      Aoki – 1
      Belt – 29
      Pence – 20
      McGehee – 12
      Craw – 17
      Posey – 21
      Panic – 8
      Total: 119

      Bench
      Arias – 0
      Duffster – 5
      Maxwell – 9
      Ishi – 5
Sanchez (and Susac when Hector is on the DL) -7
      Total: 26

      Pitchers
      Bum – 4
      The rest – 3
      Total: 7

      Grand total – 152

      • chipower9 said, on April 2, 2015 at 9:59 am

NP, John. I like your addition of the bench and pitching staff. I would more or less agree with your numbers, except I see Duffy with more like 8 and Arias with ONE.

      • stickman said, on April 2, 2015 at 1:25 pm

Bozo: So far your comprehensive totals get my vote.

Sorry Chi, that wasn’t supposed to be a comment under your post.

  5. giants54 said, on April 2, 2015 at 9:22 am

Pence losing time won’t help. A little troubling mcG didn’t homer in ST.
I guess no more than 100 unless Belt goes ballistic and Maxwell plays a lot and goes 2012, but they could lead the league in triples. And I think a top 5 ba/obp. Aoki Pagan Belt Posey Pence McG Panik Duffy all capable of .280-300.
Bottomline: don’t think offense will be the problem

    • chipower9 said, on April 2, 2015 at 10:01 am

Agree that offense will not be a problem, 54. And Casey was not brought in to hit the long ball.

  6. wilcojoe said, on April 2, 2015 at 9:24 am

    Pagan- 3
    Aoki- 1
    Belt-27
    Pence- 20
    Mcghee-9
    Crawford- 12
    Posey- 23
    Panik- 8
Maxwell (assumes full time platoon role)- 18

  7. blade3colorado said, on April 2, 2015 at 9:29 am

Chi and giants54 are both right – this team will maximize the hit and run, as well as steals (essentially the same formula, coupled with pitching they’ve used in the recent past). The Phone Park is made for that (sans a Barry Bonds – which we don’t have).

  8. wilcojoe said, on April 2, 2015 at 9:29 am

Kuiper said 100 eh? What did Kruk predict? 200?

    • chipower9 said, on April 2, 2015 at 10:01 am

      lqtm…

What, you calling Kruk a “homer,” Wilco?

  9. Bozo said, on April 2, 2015 at 9:53 am

For the Wrigley fan in all of us. You knew it would happen, but not having Dot racing, lights flashing, shit music blaring, was one of the things I loved about the place.

On my bucket list. I need to get back there for a Giant-Cubbie series.

I also want to get back to NY for a Mets-Giant series. And of course this would have to include a Flapalooza with the right coast Flappers, too.

      • Bozo said, on April 2, 2015 at 10:19 am

I went when the Cubs were playing the Dodgers, so I got to root for the Cubs. Had a blast except some days can be parka weather in April there. They have beer venders, Chi. 16oz Old Styles right to your seat and they have Chicago Dogs, well you knew that, but they were great. The fans know their stuff. I made the mistake of asking my buddy if he knew who was pitching for the Dodgers, and I swear, the whole row in front of me, men, women, children and goats, turned to give me the evil eye. Great times.

      • chipower9 said, on April 2, 2015 at 11:57 am

“….men, women, children and GOATS (the curse lives on). LMAO…

That would be a thought…take in a Dodger-Cub game so I could root for the Cubbies. I actually like the Cubs, and outside of our Giants, they are one of my favorite NL teams. But it would be tough to spend the coin, etc., and not go see them play the Giants.

      • Bozo said, on April 2, 2015 at 12:22 pm

Dude, come out to DC for the game on July 4th, I’ll buy you a beer.

      • chipower9 said, on April 2, 2015 at 2:40 pm

Would love to, John, but most of my duckets are being squirred-away for a trip to Austin later this year (to check out some live music). Perhaps one of these days.

  10. willedav said, on April 2, 2015 at 10:49 am

Wow, 5 or 6 guys getting double figure HRs, playing home games at ATT? 4, tops, would be my guess.
I don’t see it. Even 100 seems like a reach…unless Sabes snags a bat at deadline..

  11. dirtnrocksnomo said, on April 2, 2015 at 11:17 am

The Giants hit 132 last year for 17th in the league. Pretty much middle of the pack. Maybe they end up 20th this year? I agree with giants54 in that I think they’ll play well to their park regardless of HR totals.

  12. Flavor said, on April 2, 2015 at 11:36 am

I really don’t care how many they hit, there are a lot of ways to score runs. St Louis, which came “a Matheny thousand yard stare” away from the WS, hit like 105 last year (guess, not looking it up but it was close to that)

  13. dirtnrocksnomo said, on April 2, 2015 at 11:40 am

True. If I remember correctly Stl notably picked up the HR pace in the playoffs which helped them get to the NLCS. Not looking it up either. I more or less agree with you though. With the exception of Panik

  14. giants54 said, on April 2, 2015 at 12:37 pm

StL hit 105 and runner up KC hit just 95….last!

Interesting SF 10th, Cards 11th, KC 12th in era.

  15. Nipper said, on April 2, 2015 at 1:35 pm

65 HRS MAX! This club needs a power hitting guy for sure. Enjoy the pitcher ABs! You traditionalists will never learn. NL ball all the way baby!

    • chipower9 said, on April 2, 2015 at 1:38 pm

You FINALLY got it RIGHT, Nipper (NL ball all the way baby!). Glad to see you come around to REAL BASEBALL…not that panzy-assed junior circuit bullshit they play off as baseball.

  16. gianthead said, on April 2, 2015 at 2:17 pm

    I got McGeheeSurferDude with one….Aoki….zero.zero

  17. gianthead said, on April 2, 2015 at 2:34 pm

    Pagan 6
    Panik 8
    Posey 23
    Belt 17
    Pence 16
    McGeheeSurferDude 1
    Blanco/Aoki 2/0
    Crawford 12

    85…..mark it down.

I can see Maxwell the starting LF by May so I will add 10 for him as a starter. 95 then as a revision.

    • chipower9 said, on April 2, 2015 at 2:44 pm

Do not see it…I think Aoki gets a longer rope than May. Maxwell in LF is intriguing, though. Maxwell’s lifetime MLB stats are not that great, but I read the other day where he has spent lots of time with BamBam going over tapes of his ABs, and has worked on a new hitting approach that they hope adds consistency to his swing.

    • blade3colorado said, on April 2, 2015 at 3:06 pm

I like Maxwell, but no way, no how, does he replace Aoki by May. Hilarious GH. A more likely scenario is him to the bench and then out of MLB a la Hicks last season.

    • blade3colorado said, on April 2, 2015 at 3:17 pm

Just have one of your relatives or a good friend bring your cremation urn to the parade. Technically, you’ve kept your promise. 🙂

Pablo (go fuck yourself) Sandoval – 94

    WTF??? Puig – 21
    Bumgarner – 16
    Posey – 8

  21. pawliekokonuts said, on April 2, 2015 at 3:47 pm

Finishing last thread: I drove drunk endless times, maybe 6X the limit. In those days, I had cops pull me over and let me drive home (excuse me, to another bar). I’m not sure how much “education” would’ve dissuaded me from my stupid ways. Maybe a DUI would’ve been the best teacher, tho’ I never got a DUI or DWI (deserved many).

  22. pawliekokonuts said, on April 2, 2015 at 3:49 pm

I did see that fine story on Mays and Pagan. Now I like them better. Both of them, Pagan for his respect and passion, Mays for his Mays-ness. Willie really is an asset to these players.

  23. pawliekokonuts said, on April 2, 2015 at 4:03 pm

    Pagan 8
    Panik 10
    Posey 19
    Belt 24
    Pence 19
    Ishikawa 7
    H Sanchez 8
    Maxwell 12
    McGiggles 11
    Blanco/Aoki 4/0
    Crawford 12
    Bumgarner 2
    Cain 1
    RandomOthers Via Trade/Callup/Miracle: 3

I believe that adds up to 140. See, I told you I ain’t no doomer no more.

  24. Nipper said, on April 2, 2015 at 4:11 pm

If Posey, Pence, Pagan and Belt don’t have career years it’s going to be a long cold summer in SF.

    • dirtnrocksnomo said, on April 2, 2015 at 4:16 pm

I’ll settle for a break out year from Belt and career averages for the others.

      • blade3colorado said, on April 2, 2015 at 4:44 pm

Dirt (or Chuck), have you been to the slopes recently? Saw a photo of Squaw Valley, where the skiers were going downhill, with much of the run parallel to them all grass. It looked like less then 6 inches of snow on the ground total. Frickin’ unbelievable.

Thoughts on this water restriction executive order Gov. Brown just signed? What does it mean to the bay area?

  25. unca_chuck said, on April 2, 2015 at 5:13 pm

Not this year. I lucked out last year when we signed up for a couple nights in south shore in December and we got there the day right after a big storm in late march. Didn’t get close this year.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 2, 2015 at 5:21 pm

That don’t make sense but you get it. Typing on Bart one handed is a challenge

      • blade3colorado said, on April 2, 2015 at 5:39 pm

No, it makes perfect sense. Here in Denver (as you know), you’re so close to the action, that you usually make a decision to go to the slopes that week or the day before the trip. In the bay area, my ex and I would usually do the weekend trip, which was booked weeks in advance. However, part of the trip (or if no snow) was to gamble. In the Redding area (Old Shasta, near Whiskey Town lake), it was sort of like the Denver situation, i.e., going to Shasta ski resort was a same day/day before decision. Also, they didn’t have many lodging choices (mostly B&B).

  26. unca_chuck said, on April 2, 2015 at 5:15 pm

At this point, Steve it means you have to ask for water at restaurants.

      LOL

    • Alleykat said, on April 2, 2015 at 5:52 pm

  27. Bozo said, on April 2, 2015 at 5:32 pm

Hold the presses, I forgot my man Blanco on the HR prediction. Five HRs for Gregor, 4 in the air and 1 inside the park. My new grand total is 157.
    Bring it.

  28. unca_chuck said, on April 2, 2015 at 5:45 pm

Shit, Whiskeytown Lake. Took the girls camping there when they were little. Musta been 22 years ago. You could stand on the old highway into town, which is 80′ under water.

    • blade3colorado said, on April 2, 2015 at 5:53 pm

The ex and I had a beautiful home on 4 acres at this new development 5 minutes from Whiskeytown Lake. Views of Mt. Lassen, Mt. Shasta, and city lights of Redding. In a few ways (mostly having to do with quality of life), I regretted taking the job promotion in Denver back in ’97 . . . Always planned on moving back after retirement, but then real estate prices exploded there.

Skiing (eye roll).”

I’ve always hated the Bay Bridge series. I think I went to every home opener from 1986-1997. I never attended a Bay Bridge series and never wanted to. I always felt it would take away from the beauty of opening day. That first moment that you see the fresh, virgin grass, with the red and white bunting draping the stadium, that should never be spoiled by an exhibition. Back in the eighties and early nineties, those games were never televised, so I was never tempted to sneak a peak. I actually feel guilty watching this game.
