What A Day
With KC primed to take out the Mets tonight in 5, I think we would be remiss in not honoring this day for what it is: the 5 year anniversary of Timmy throwing that single digit in the air, *fuck yeahs!!!!!* flying as freely as his flowing black hair. Below him players celebrated wildly. I remember that moment like it was last night.
Never forget your first……
Never thought I would see it, especially after 2002.
Sometimes I still can’t believe it.
2010 was my 48th season as a loyal SFG fan…
I’ll lift a glass tonight in honor of that great memory. That win was the greatest moment of my life of being a sports fan. No Warrior win, no Niners S-Bowl wins exceeded it, not close. When the Beard struck out Cruz, it took me a second or two to actually process the win. I danced with the Snarkettes in my living room, like a modern, 9th inning walk-off celebration scrum. I will never forget it…
Wow, saw the Miami punt ‘return’ for a TD. Duke gets fucked but in the end it doesn’t matter.
Who knew you could review penalties? That’s total bullshit.
What I will say is it is refreshing that they suspended the whole crew. but that’s little consolation to the team that gets fucked.
What’s with all the foul language, Chuck?
Tony Bennett….backstabber or front runner?
a tottering Tony Bennett appropriated by the NYorkers for a shitty rendition of a shitty “America,” because Tony clearly is too demented or worn out to handle the nat’l anthem now. Give me Santana (and don’t suggest the Dead).
It was more like “America the Pitiful”…
Tough room. 🙂
Bennett’s a NY native and 89 yrs old. Playing his SF anthem rocks after a G win, cut the old fart some slck.
*slack.
I’ve always liked Tony Bennett. After the Giants whipped the a’s this year a friend and I killed some time listening to the I Left My Heart anthem while the crowd thinned out. My friend apropos of nothing said he preferred Mel Torme to Tony Bennett. That pissed me off. The Velvet Frog? I asked. Fog, he said. The Velvet FOG! Uh huh. He’s fine, that scat stuff”s good if you don’t have anyone better available (Ella? I was thinking). But he ain’t no Tony Bennett.
Cespedes in CF again. That’s pathetic.
The 1st of the 3-in-5 was incredibly emotional. They’ve all been fantastic.
Nice start for the Metros!
I like Granderson. He ain’t no Hunter Pence, but he’s a valuable RF.
Volquez’s pitch acts like a screwball.
I have every side effect of Belsomra and I don’t even take it…
I have every side effect of Lyrica and I don’t even take it…
Eat more kale. It’s the wonder-food.
I’m waiting for some wonder drugs that work with alcohol.
Vagamine works 😉
Yeah, like Erin Andrews can understand a single word Salvador Perez says.
The man has the communication skills of Cousin Itt…
Randy Winn did the same thing a few years ago. He eventually got back up and homered vs. LA.
Ray Durham, too…
Cespedes has been snake-bit all Series. It started with Golf-gate.
Probably cost himself $50 million…
Does Harvey go out for the 9th?
He should be allowed to.
end of game 5 in 2010 was the best moment of my life as a Giants fan; my older son called immediately from his college town, sobbing with joy. (He slept out to be first in line for fanfest the next February–local news crews interviewed him in the pre-dawn hours.) But game 5 last season, my son and I attended, and when we saw Romo warm up but sit down, while MadBum came out for the 9th, we and all 40K plus around us knew we were in for a classic. I don’t think the mets can depend on Harvey in that way.
well, here we go–personally I’d be pleased to see Harvey come through
The ’79 Pirates were the last team to come back in the World Series being down 3 games to 1, winning the last 2 on the road.
Familia on the spot again.
Collins won’t be criticized for sending Harvey out for the 9th.
But he’s gonna hear it for leaving him in after the lead-off walk…
you beat me to it
the Mets are bad up the middle. d’A can’t make a decent throw to 2B; Murphy contributed to a decent DP turn tonight, but he’s a stiff and he opened the way to defeat last night; Cespedes in CF did the same last night. That fundamental flaw in the LU may cost the Mets the WS. Thank the lard for Buster, Panik and Craw last year. And thank the luck that CF failures didn’t ruin it all.
Mets D just sucks
You beat me to it.
Wright sucks on defense.
Why are you blaming Wright?
His flips are slow.
That’s an easier throw for a lefty first baseman…
I disagree, maybe easier, but he just flat out choked, he should have made the throw
Makes you really appreciate Bochy.
I can’t stand Wright’s underhand flips to first base.
Bochy has a steadier finger on the pulse of his pitchers. Hey, keep it going. The longer this goes, the longer we remain WORLD CHAMPIONS!
🙂
Yes. Happy anniversary, basking Flappers. (Didn’t Timmy actually and in public shout his “fuck yeah!” to Amy G. when the Giants beat the Padres for the pennant in 2010?)
The problem for the Mets is that they seem like they’re running on fumes. Without Murphy HRs, they struggle.
Familia reminds me a little of Casilla, though honestly I prefer our guy Santiago, one of the most underrated stars in our #3in5 run. (Familia. They named a famous church in Barcelona after him hahahahaha.) And the Mets ain’t got no Romo mojo.
Kelly Johnson’s walk-up song is “Money For Nothing”
His agent must hate that…
boooooom
Mets need a Uribe bomb.
Reynolds definitely right: Mets need a homer, Royals a baserunner (aided by a few Met miscues).
I got no problem with Harvey starting the 9th. For me, he’d keep pitching ’til somebody gets on. Well, he walked the first guy, so he’d be out. Collins should have brought in Familia right there. If they lose the game, he’ll get second guessed big time on that…
and millions of irate New Yawk fans will concur…..I like Grandy….
Someone said that at 8:02, snarkkie…
So, I guess I’m right? I’ve been in my kitchen, Loo, not reading the breathless posts here minute by minute…
Well, get your priorities straight!
Filet of salmon easily took priority over Lucas Duda …
I think I’d cook more if I didn’t have to clean up after…
the Mets need Dan Johnson, not Kelly Johnson
Anybody remember Alex Johnson? He could really hit but had all kinds of issues…
It’s not supposed to be that easy to steal bases.
Wonder if Hosmer went on his own in the 9th…
Despite what the Fox announcers said, that was not a smart play. A good throw and they’re all heading to K.C. by now.
Dyson. All Soles Day. Nov. 2.
Reed does not instill confidence.
Wow, what a crazy series this has been.
The important thing is the Dodgers got knocked out. 🙂
in the — wait for it — first round
This is like watching Cinderella’s carriage turn back into a pumpkin and mice.
The Royals might win 9-4.
You’ll probably get the 9 part of that right.
Murphy and Cespedes Bronx bound…
“and now Murphy boots another!” Bucko’s moment tonight. Meanwhile, Murphy the Goat develops nuance.
I don’t know if KC is better this year than last, but this Series shows again that the Giants were not “lucky” in any of their playoff wins the last 3 of 5…
Here’s where I’d make my mad dash for the 7 train…
Note to Mets: get a catcher that can throw somebody out.
yes
Well, if baseball is about to close for the year, the Dubs are certainly worthy of taking over center stage of sports in the Bay Area. Even the Raiders are making noises about being a competent squad. Following the Dubs beats even thinking about the disaster that is the Niners…
the Raiders played a good game today and seem ready to play that well all year. The 9ers, meanwhile, looked the like the Raider joke teams of recent past–the stupid penalties, the weak offense, etc. Sad state of affairs.
As Xoot said, Mets’ D was terrible all Series. From the get-go, with the booted inside-the-park HR.
Bartolo fucking Colon again? Look, the 42 year old impresses me. His ability to spot the two seamer is amazing. But night after night? Oh, well, there you go . . . .
Mets D is just atrocious.
Daniel Murphy=Brooks Conrad
Bad news Bears on their whole friggin inning!!
Now they just totally blown it open!
Congrats Royals, Well deserved..
Until you face us .. The 4 in 7 Giants are coming back to kick your Ass!!
See ya, Mets, thanks for taking out the Dodgers.
Zobrist would look good in a Giants uni.
I think we have a future Zobrist, his name is Specs…
No question about the better team in this Series. What happened to the good pitching beats good hitting thing? Maybe it’s the type of good hitting that is key. Good pitching beats good slugger hitting. Good put it in play hitting very possibly WILL beat good pitching…
the long lay off tightened up the mets starters and their pen, except Familia, isn’t very good. (Clippard? over and over?) KC’s pitching on balance was better.
Way to go rook!
No way I would want to make the last out in a W/S as well..
Way to go rook!
No way I would want to make the last out in a W/S as well..
Place is emptying out fast, only the muggers & rats are left..
I’d be at Queensboro Plaza by now…
What is the main theme that goes onto a KC championship ring? A bas relief of a couple of baby back ribs with a side of slaw?…
A sobbing Chief fan?
I”m telling you, that slab of filet mignon I had in KC was monumental. Then there’s always Charlie Parker’s alto sax, Dexter Gordon’s tenor
sorry, I meant Lester Young, not Dexter Gordon–but still, a sax would be a good emblem on the ring
I know Collins will get second guessed about letting Harvey pitch after he gave up the walk, hell, I’m second guessing him for not sticking with his first call in just bringing out Familia to close the game out in the 9th. Whatever, I still think a bigger mistake on his part was letting Cespedes finish his at bat after blowing up his knee. I know he is their number 4 hitter, and he had two strikes, but the bases were loaded and Cespedes hasn’t been hitting with both legs. Bring in someone healthy, could have been a much larger inning for the Mets. IMO.
Just like the Harvey call, Collins let the player make the decision for him and now he’s lost the WS.
Interesting points, Bozo…
Funny thing about the W/S, when’s the last time a teams won it all at home?
Kat, I was thinking the same thing. Can’t remember. Really would like to see the next Giants WS win be clinched at ATT. How’s that for hubris?…
Sounds great Snarkk.
Let’s clinch a championship against KC at ATT & have
Bochy school Yost again!!
2013 Red Sox.
Here’s a salute to the 2014 World Champs, the San Francisco Giants. Their reign is over, but they’ll not be forgotten by any means…
amen
well the better team won, and good tough baseball, including extra inning dramatics, was fun to see. No on Cespedes; Cueto, why not. See you all in the funny pages
A redemptive base hit for Perez tonight. He came through in the clutch. A better ending for him than last year.
good 9:37 by Clown
My favorite post game quote after losing a championship series was by Reggie Miller a few years back:
“We can hang our heads high”
That rivals the great statement by Monta Ellis of the Dubs: “I’ll always be a Warriors”…
Are by Latrell Sprewell..
Coach PJ Carmeliso..I get all choked up playing for you…
Needless to say, Collins getting crucified here…
I know Mets fans who would’ve ripped even if they had won it all.
Remarkable how the Royals had an almost entirely different rotation this year than the one that brought them to the dance last year. Gone were Big (Regular Season) Game James, Jason Vargas (injured), and Jeremy Guthrie (ineffective), replaced by Volquez, Young and Cueto, with only Ventura the lone starter from last year’s Series. And then losing Greg Holland as the closer, although having Wade Davis to take his place ain’t too bad.
Just dug up my SI Baseball Preview issue. They got one thing right: The WS champs came out of the AL Central, only it wasn’t their prediction of the Indians. And they picked K.C. to finish fourth in the division!
And…..the hot stove season begins! 🙂
I want more starting pitching and I want it now! 🙂
I love Timmy, but no thank you.
Collins would be under fire regardless if he left Harvey in because he’d been dominant in the game, or put Familia in to close (after he’d blow 2 saves already in the series), if either guy blew it in the 9th…
Pavlovic had a great stat: Royals are 22-6 in the last two postseasons against starters not named Bumgarner…
