A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

What A Day

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 1, 2015

With KC primed to take out the Mets tonight in 5, I think we would be remiss in not honoring this day for what it is: the 5 year anniversary of Timmy throwing that single digit in the air, *fuck yeahs!!!!!* flying as freely as his flowing black hair. Below him players celebrated wildly. I remember that moment like it was last night.

Never forget your first……

Never thought I would see it, especially after 2002.
Sometimes I still can’t believe it.
2010 was my 48th season as a loyal SFG fan…

I’ll lift a glass tonight in honor of that great memory. That win was the greatest moment of my life of being a sports fan. No Warrior win, no Niners S-Bowl wins exceeded it, not close. When the Beard struck out Cruz, it took me a second or two to actually process the win. I danced with the Snarkettes in my living room, like a modern, 9th inning walk-off celebration scrum. I will never forget it…

Wow, saw the Miami punt ‘return’ for a TD. Duke gets fucked but in the end it doesn’t matter.

Who knew you could review penalties? That’s total bullshit.

What I will say is it is refreshing that they suspended the whole crew. but that’s little consolation to the team that gets fucked.

What’s with all the foul language, Chuck?

  4. djloo27 said, on November 1, 2015 at 5:06 pm

    Tony Bennett….backstabber or front runner?

  5. xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 5:08 pm

a tottering Tony Bennett appropriated by the NYorkers for a shitty rendition of a shitty “America,” because Tony clearly is too demented or worn out to handle the nat’l anthem now. Give me Santana (and don’t suggest the Dead).

    • djloo27 said, on November 1, 2015 at 5:20 pm

It was more like “America the Pitiful”…

        Tough room. 🙂

    • sandy32koufax said, on November 1, 2015 at 5:36 pm

Bennett’s a NY native and 89 yrs old. Playing his SF anthem rocks after a G win, cut the old fart some slck.

      • sandy32koufax said, on November 1, 2015 at 5:36 pm

        *slack.

      • xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 6:41 pm

I’ve always liked Tony Bennett. After the Giants whipped the a’s this year a friend and I killed some time listening to the I Left My Heart anthem while the crowd thinned out. My friend apropos of nothing said he preferred Mel Torme to Tony Bennett. That pissed me off. The Velvet Frog? I asked. Fog, he said. The Velvet FOG! Uh huh. He’s fine, that scat stuff”s good if you don’t have anyone better available (Ella? I was thinking). But he ain’t no Tony Bennett.

Cespedes in CF again. That’s pathetic.

Does Harvey go out for the 9th?

    • zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 7:46 pm

      He should be allowed to.

    • xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 7:49 pm

end of game 5 in 2010 was the best moment of my life as a Giants fan; my older son called immediately from his college town, sobbing with joy. (He slept out to be first in line for fanfest the next February–local news crews interviewed him in the pre-dawn hours.) But game 5 last season, my son and I attended, and when we saw Romo warm up but sit down, while MadBum came out for the 9th, we and all 40K plus around us knew we were in for a classic. I don’t think the mets can depend on Harvey in that way.

      • xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 7:51 pm

well, here we go–personally I’d be pleased to see Harvey come through

  17. zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 7:44 pm

The ’79 Pirates were the last team to come back in the World Series being down 3 games to 1, winning the last 2 on the road.

  18. zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 7:59 pm

    Familia on the spot again.

  19. djloo27 said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:02 pm

Collins won’t be criticized for sending Harvey out for the 9th.
But he’s gonna hear it for leaving him in after the lead-off walk…

    • pawliekokonuts said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:11 pm

      you beat me to it

  20. xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:03 pm

the Mets are bad up the middle. d’A can’t make a decent throw to 2B; Murphy contributed to a decent DP turn tonight, but he’s a stiff and he opened the way to defeat last night; Cespedes in CF did the same last night. That fundamental flaw in the LU may cost the Mets the WS. Thank the lard for Buster, Panik and Craw last year. And thank the luck that CF failures didn’t ruin it all.

  21. xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:04 pm

    Mets D just sucks

    • zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:08 pm

  22. zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:08 pm

    Wright sucks on defense.

    • djloo27 said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:09 pm

      Why are you blaming Wright?

      • zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:12 pm

        His flips are slow.

  23. djloo27 said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:08 pm

That’s an easier throw for a lefty first baseman…

    • Irish Kevin said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:11 pm

I disagree, maybe easier, but he just flat out choked, he should have made the throw

  24. Macdog said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:10 pm

  25. zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:11 pm

I can’t stand Wright’s underhand flips to first base.

  26. pawliekokonuts said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:13 pm

Bochy has a steadier finger on the pulse of his pitchers. Hey, keep it going. The longer this goes, the longer we remain WORLD CHAMPIONS!

      🙂

  27. pawliekokonuts said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:15 pm

Yes. Happy anniversary, basking Flappers. (Didn’t Timmy actually and in public shout his “fuck yeah!” to Amy G. when the Giants beat the Padres for the pennant in 2010?)

  28. zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:20 pm

The problem for the Mets is that they seem like they’re running on fumes. Without Murphy HRs, they struggle.

  29. pawliekokonuts said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:27 pm

Familia reminds me a little of Casilla, though honestly I prefer our guy Santiago, one of the most underrated stars in our #3in5 run. (Familia. They named a famous church in Barcelona after him hahahahaha.) And the Mets ain’t got no Romo mojo.

  30. djloo27 said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:33 pm

  32. pawliekokonuts said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:35 pm

Reynolds definitely right: Mets need a homer, Royals a baserunner (aided by a few Met miscues).

  33. snarkk said, on November 1, 2015 at 8:36 pm

I got no problem with Harvey starting the 9th. For me, he’d keep pitching ’til somebody gets on. Well, he walked the first guy, so he’d be out. Collins should have brought in Familia right there. If they lose the game, he’ll get second guessed big time on that…

    • Macdog said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:10 pm

  48. snarkk said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:17 pm

Well, if baseball is about to close for the year, the Dubs are certainly worthy of taking over center stage of sports in the Bay Area. Even the Raiders are making noises about being a competent squad. Following the Dubs beats even thinking about the disaster that is the Niners…

    • xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:21 pm

the Raiders played a good game today and seem ready to play that well all year. The 9ers, meanwhile, looked the like the Raider joke teams of recent past–the stupid penalties, the weak offense, etc. Sad state of affairs.

  49. zumiee said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:18 pm

As Xoot said, Mets’ D was terrible all Series. From the get-go, with the booted inside-the-park HR.

  54. snarkk said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:23 pm

No question about the better team in this Series. What happened to the good pitching beats good hitting thing? Maybe it’s the type of good hitting that is key. Good pitching beats good slugger hitting. Good put it in play hitting very possibly WILL beat good pitching…

    • xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:27 pm

the long lay off tightened up the mets starters and their pen, except Familia, isn’t very good. (Clippard? over and over?) KC’s pitching on balance was better.

      • xoot said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:45 pm

sorry, I meant Lester Young, not Dexter Gordon–but still, a sax would be a good emblem on the ring

  57. Bozo said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:37 pm

I know Collins will get second guessed about letting Harvey pitch after he gave up the walk, hell, I’m second guessing him for not sticking with his first call in just bringing out Familia to close the game out in the 9th. Whatever, I still think a bigger mistake on his part was letting Cespedes finish his at bat after blowing up his knee. I know he is their number 4 hitter, and he had two strikes, but the bases were loaded and Cespedes hasn’t been hitting with both legs. Bring in someone healthy, could have been a much larger inning for the Mets. IMO.

Just like the Harvey call, Collins let the player make the decision for him and now he’s lost the WS.

    • djloo27 said, on November 1, 2015 at 9:40 pm

Remarkable how the Royals had an almost entirely different rotation this year than the one that brought them to the dance last year. Gone were Big (Regular Season) Game James, Jason Vargas (injured), and Jeremy Guthrie (ineffective), replaced by Volquez, Young and Cueto, with only Ventura the lone starter from last year’s Series. And then losing Greg Holland as the closer, although having Wade Davis to take his place ain’t too bad.

Just dug up my SI Baseball Preview issue. They got one thing right: The WS champs came out of the AL Central, only it wasn’t their prediction of the Indians. And they picked K.C. to finish fourth in the division!

Collins would be under fire regardless if he left Harvey in because he’d been dominant in the game, or put Familia in to close (after he’d blow 2 saves already in the series), if either guy blew it in the 9th…

  70. snarkk said, on November 2, 2015 at 12:06 am

Pavlovic had a great stat: Royals are 22-6 in the last two postseasons against starters not named Bumgarner…
