Who Does the Sun Set on Tonight?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 27, 2015

As we continue through the dead zone of the baseball off season, I continue to be fascinated by the Golden State Warriors season of perfection. Tonight they go to Phoenix shooting for win #17 (this season). The Suns are 7-8 but always seem to play us tough in Arizona. They have a back court tandem of Knight and Bledsoe that some are comparing to the back court that “couldn’t work” of Curry and Ellis. I see the comparison.

My daughter became a teenager today and, as such, Black Friday holds a different meaning for me…..

A strong case could be made that their streak is at 20, counting 4 wins at the end of last season’s regular season. The NBA needs to rule on that, if the streak gets a lot closer to the record.

actually, that’s not a case, it’s fact. In terms of the Warriors taking aim at 33 in a row everyone is counting the 4 from the end of last year (as they should). For the this thread, I just counted the wins to start the season

Always liked Hornacek, pride of the Iowa St. Cyclones (remember Big Vic Alexander?). Made great combo with Stockton and Malone. Phoenix is one of those teams that just gets overwhelmed out in West by too much competition. Suns old purple road jerseys with the orange boiling sun on pants was cool uni. Used to catch them a lot at Oaktown, esp when Connie Hawkins played for them after ABA broke up.

Congrats to Kate. Watching kids grow up and mature is fun. Number of kids I used to coach are now in college or have graduated and it’s always good to see them in different light.

As to Black Friday, my co. unfortunately has stores in malls that require them to open up at Midnight. What a f-ing crock. How are you supposed to enjoy a Holiday if you have to be awake at midnight and ready to work 6-8 hours?

the closest I’m coming to Black Friday is the movie theater later today. Got 4 of the last remaining Hunger Games tix. I don’t really care about the movie but that’s what K8 wants to do for her bday.

If the Dodgers sign Price, that would put them in the unusual situation of having a starting rotation of all lefthanders. Kershaw, Price, Ryu, Anderson, and Wood. Is that even ever happened before in MLB? Maybe for a 4-man rotation, back in the day, but doubtful there’s ever been a 5-lefty rotation. Not that it couldn’t be successful, but it would be pretty weird.

I’m more a Kings fan, but I’m diggin’ what the Warriors are accomplishing. They’re as fun to watch as the early 2000s Kings. Could these Warriors have knocked off the Shaq/Kobe Lakers? Maybe. These Warriors shoot better and rebound better than those Kings teams. Both teams get an A+ for ball movement.

Happy Birthday to Kate! For me I like those movies. Read all the books too. Wanted to know what the youth of today likes.

Saw “Trumbo,” and mostly liked it. I’d say we are in another McCarthyism era. And I tried — unsuccessfully — to find out if Mark Trumbo is related to Dalton Trumbo. When I was a teacher, I had my kids read JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN, superb pacifiest novel by Trumbo.

I just read in the sfgate that today Jimmi Hendricks would have been 73. So Kate and Jimmi have something in common!! 😄😄😄

Puig apparently got punched in the face by a bouncer at a Miami nightclub last night.

“Yasiel Puig was involved in a massive brawl at a Miami bar after the Dodgers star got physical with his sister and struck several staffers … TMZ Sports has learned.
We spoke with employees at Blue Martini in Miami, who tell us Puig was drinking with his sister Wednesday night when they got into a heated argument … and things escalated when he pushed her.
Bar staffers immediately rushed over to break it up, but Puig turned on them … getting physical with several staffers.
The crew was eventually able to get Puig outside where they say he brutally sucker punched the manager, setting off a brawl.
Several staffers rushed in to help … jumping all over Yasiel until he was restrained.
We’re told cops responded, but Puig was not arrested. Staffers are considering whether to press charges.
We reached out to Puig’s camp, so far no word back.
UPDATE, 3:45PM PT — TMZ Sports spoke to a rep for the City of Miami PD who tells us a report was filed which notes Yasiel Puig suffered a “swollen left eye, and bumps and bruises to the face.”
The report also says a bouncer suffered “a busted lip.”
Cops say they believe the incident was “mutual combat” and both sides have told them charges will not be pressed.”

    Mutual combat?

The Warriors had two days off and are playing with fresh legs. Good night, Phoenix.

    • willedav said, on November 27, 2015 at 7:01 pm

yeah off to great start. Curry and Thompson with 25 in first Q.
I got your backcourt match up right here.

    • willedav said, on November 27, 2015 at 7:09 pm

make that 29, steph with 19 in first Q as GS scores 44 and leads by 17.
Last sequence another highlight reel move— he blew guy away twice, with the cross dribble past him and then stopping as defender flew by him before he nailed another 3.

Dang. Suns are shooting 56% from the floor and are down 75-57 at half. They are playing well but Warriors (when they don’t turn ball over) are just on fire tonight.
Steph has 27 (7 out of 9 on 3s) and Warriors set NBA record with 15 3s in first half. Fun game to watch.

Happ got 3/$36 million from Toronto. I kinda liked him.

    • willedav said, on November 27, 2015 at 10:10 pm

I always liked Hap Hairston from NYU, who was on that record setting Laker team 71-72 that won 33 in a row.
Avg 14 and 10, consummate role player on team with bigger stars.

Flavor, much love for your family. Exciting times; I hope you both had a great day yesterday.
I guess you can add ‘father of a teenager’ to your upcoming multitasking chores.
    rock on

Saw on Yahoo today that McCoveyChron has column on top 10 Giants prospects with some analysis from scouts, etc. Arroyo kid seems pretty high on everyone’s radar, and Williamson comes in higher than Parker.
6 pitchers with Blackburn little far down.
Didn’t scroll through comments, always interesting on that site, usually very short but tons of them.

Arroyo can hit; if Panik is OK, maybe Arroyo or Duffy end up in the outfield, or become a trade chip.
