1 FanLess At Fanfest

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on February 11, 2016

FanFest this Saturday and I’m stoked to be busy enough to snub the bejeeeezus out of it. Fanfest isn’t my thing anymore. If you like loooooooong lines, you should definitely go. Weather should be in your favor if you decide to make the trek.

On his radio show yesterday, Krukow predicted that Matt Cain would be the Comeback Player of the Year. Let that sink in.

Cain did look in great shape the other day down at Pebble. He hits the shit out of a golf ball…..

Fav golf tournament of the season today 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ll get on the next plane.

By the by, where is Loo? Partying with James, Ted and Nipper no doubt.

For some reason, I feel like subjecting myself to the exercise in frustration that is called fan fest. It’ll be a nice day to be at the yard.

Golf on TV, wake me up on Sunday. I’d much rather play (poorly) than watch. Enjoy, though.

I have not been to fan fest in years. I think I have gone two times since they moved it to the ballpark. I get why they moved it there, but it sucks. The concourses are too crowded…it is just a fucking quagmire (thank you Bernie Sanders). I don’t see going again anytime soon (if ever).

Fort Mason, back in the day, was a good place for fan fest. It was before we won any WS in The City, and the crowds were not too bad. The last couple of years before moving it to the yard were across McCovey Cove, and those were not too bad, either.

Gail and I are competing with the dogs this weekend in Santa Rosa, so I had a pass anyway (like I needed one).

Steve – I was having the same thought this morn…where in the hell is Loo?

sarge – if you go, bring a triple serving of patience. The lines are loooong. Enjoy.

Only SIX days until pitchers and catchers report. Fire up that grill with the Sheboygan brats and pour a round of cold ones boys…baseball is damned near here!

    • Carstie Clausen said, on February 11, 2016 at 9:01 am

Competing with the dogs, eh? Betcha they can out-bark and out-fetch you any day of the week. Maybe pose cuter too.

      • chipower9 said, on February 11, 2016 at 11:13 am

Yep – girlfriend does agility with two of our dogs, and I do barn hunt with another one. My dog (the one with which I do barn hunt) is obsessed with balls and Frisbees and can definitely put me to shame any day of the week. Cuter? No contest – dogs beat me every day of the week, and twice on Sundays! 😉

I think I went to the same one Craig went to. I’ve been to at least two since I’ve moved back from Hawaii in 2011. I’m prepared for waiting in long lines for everything. Since there is no person walking this earth whom I have a desire to stand in line for 2 hours or more to get an autograph from, I’m good there. My wife and kids want to go, and it’s always nice to have something to do with them.

When my son was smaller it was cool to play catch with him on the field. My oldest was in love with Timmy so she was thrilled to go. She took 75 pics of him. Middle daughter got Pablo’s and Romo’s autograph, plus a bunch more. I got Will Clark’s. Plus Eeeuhenio’s.

We went in 2009 and 2010 so it wasn’t 1/4 the big deal it is now. But it was pretty cool.

    • Flavor said, on February 11, 2016 at 7:33 am

a few years ago I posted some pics my dad took when he went in 2007 or so. It was hilarious, it looked like mid week at a park in SF. No one was there.

  5. Flavor said, on February 11, 2016 at 7:31 am

Loo has been known to shut down a wing or two of his operation in the off season. And I emailed with Twin yesterday. He’s fine, just still settling in after the fire devastation he and his wife went through.

    • chipower9 said, on February 11, 2016 at 11:15 am

Good news on Twin. I believe I have his most current email address. I will shoot you and email and have you send me his latest. I would like to drop that ol’ knucklehead a line.

  6. Flavor said, on February 11, 2016 at 7:50 am

the pics my dad took were funny. Looks like an A’s fanfest.

Good memories. “Looks like an A’s fanfest”…LMAO…

  7. blade3colorado said, on February 11, 2016 at 8:12 am

Read/viewed your WABAC thread. That frickin’ hot dog (from another time warp thread) still makes me smile . . . and not feel so bad about the garbage I’ve eaten at the phone park and especially, the ‘stick.

Loo’s post also deserves a repeat, as I get a similar “high” wearing my Giants gear in Colorado. Too bad my 49er gear will probably not be worn until at least another decade.

“DJLoo said, on February 9, 2013 at 3:44 pm (Edit)
I’ve noticed something in the last few months that you guys out on the West coast who live among Giant fans may not necessarily have experienced. You gotta remember as a Giant fan I’m all alone here – at least in the immediate neighborhood. I’m well known for it. Anyway, ever since championship # 2 when I wear my Giant stuff (almost every day) I actually feel like fuckin’ royalty – almost God-like – almost 5 feet tall. Doesn’t matter if it’s a jacket, a hoodie, or just a couple of pins. I feel like I personally achieved something special that took me almost half a century to earn. And the people who know me know it and they respect it. I can feel it and I see it in their eyes. After the first one in 2010, it was like the little maniac finally got lucky just once. People were genuinely happy for me. (I’m quite popular) It’s different since the second one. Now I can just put on a pair of black mittens with that spectacular orange SF logo and I fuckin’ own everything – like I knew something all along that they didn’t. I could only imagine how the team and members of the organization must feel.”

    • Flavor said, on February 11, 2016 at 9:26 am

I hope I made that a potd–best of. I’ll check. If not, it’s going in there.

    • chipower9 said, on February 11, 2016 at 11:21 am

Pure Fucking Gold. And only the way Loo can do it…god I love this blog!

  8. Flavor said, on February 11, 2016 at 9:51 am

So I’m at work, distracted, also trying to run through the POTD-best of to see if I logged Loo’s gem in there back in 2013…I’m skimming through it, not seeing it, shit’s not adding up. All of a sudden I realize I’m going through the BBOTD-POTD, not the POTD-best of.
Had a good lulz to myself about that…….
Anyway, I already locked it in, it’s #35 in the POTD-best of.

    • chipower9 said, on February 11, 2016 at 11:22 am

Speaking of BBOTD – how about a refresh? Come on Flavor…even if it is one of your favorite old skags…let’s see some womenses…

    • ewisco said, on February 11, 2016 at 1:53 pm

yes i was at that. unbelievable to watch it happen. I think that same year was the all-star game at the stick and he was there? we were in the left field bleachers and he came out and we went nuts.

  9. willedav said, on February 11, 2016 at 11:01 am

Fun thread, good read on the old stuff.
Loo’s take reminds me of seeing all the RedSox fans out in their gear after they finally broke the Curse.
Then they won another one and you know they’re feeling it walking around town.

    • willedav said, on February 11, 2016 at 11:13 am

Roberts did have something to do with Sox taking out Yanks. tho he didn’t play in the Series, he does have the ring, something Dodgers jonesing over pretty hard.

I hope that link to the graph from @highheatstats works. Pretty interesting.

Also, anyone else see the rant Tim Flannery sent out earlier today? If it’s genuine, then that’s really interesting.

    • chipower9 said, on February 11, 2016 at 11:25 am

Where was Flan’s rant? I have not seen it but would love to check it out…

      • xoot said, on February 11, 2016 at 12:33 pm

        bellow’s the link

  11. xoot said, on February 11, 2016 at 11:15 am

Here’s the screen shot I saw earlier today. From last night. Apparently Flannery’s deleted it from his twitter page, but his follow-up tweets this morning are hilarious. Enjoy this:

    • sfsarge said, on February 11, 2016 at 12:46 pm

      That is amazing!

    • xoot said, on February 11, 2016 at 1:43 pm

Flannery calls his band The Lunatic Fringe and he didn’t join the team until some three years after Sabean fired off that remark. Giant for life, indeed. (Also shows how that joke has played inside the FO and clubhouse over the years, I suppose.)

    • Flavor said, on February 11, 2016 at 3:31 pm

      wow!

  12. willedav said, on February 11, 2016 at 1:04 pm

Wonder what it was from Pads fans that set Flan off but that was a great rant.
Wasn’t his fault he and bochy got run out of Dodge…Alderson, wasn’t it?

Candidate for loneliest job in baseball might be Pads third base coach this year.

  13. alleykat69 said, on February 11, 2016 at 2:53 pm

    Right On Flannery!!
That’s telling the low life Padre fans how you really feel!!
    POTD material my man!!

  14. snarkk said, on February 11, 2016 at 2:53 pm

per KNBR this morning, apparently the Flan rant was possibly fueled by red wine…

    • xoot said, on February 11, 2016 at 4:11 pm

on his twitter page Flannery claims he was cold sober last night, but one of his tweets this morning shows him enjoying a glass of red the size of a water cooler

  15. blade3colorado said, on February 11, 2016 at 4:48 pm

That was me before I quit drinking 30 years ago . . .

    • snarkk said, on February 11, 2016 at 8:29 pm

I would actually pay $12 a glass in a restaurant for that one…

  16. Bozo said, on February 11, 2016 at 6:22 pm

With this fanfest, I can’t help but remember what a huge Giants fan Craw has been, forever. This shit must really be fun for him. Here is a shot of him remaking his famous photo as a kid.

  17. Bozo said, on February 11, 2016 at 6:25 pm

On Flan, this is what he wrote on his FB page.

“I got caught on Twitter placing a beautiful photo last night of me coaching 3rd, thanking the organization for our historic run. Then all hell broke loose. Padres trolls, or really just bully haters let me have it. Called me ” traitor”, ” I hope your family dies” and eat shit” we’re the nicest words. Well I made a point, it went viral and of course the rag newspapers are saying I dissed the Padre fans. That’s not true, I made a point about keeping an organization accountable. I apologize if you read it and you think that I was taking shots at you if you think I’m talking about you, most of you know me well enough to understand, when some bully wrote ” I’m glad your dad died, now it’s time for your family” it hurt. I’m done with Twitter, except to read baseball updates, but just know I’m not dissing anyone, but I also bite when it comes to words of hate. Ok, just wanted you to understand my view, because they are making a big story because there isn’t much sports news now that football is over. I’ve had more of my share of personal attacks today, I will learn to deal with trolls, haters better. I hope. Tim”

  18. wilcojoe said, on February 11, 2016 at 6:52 pm

The crazy thing about all of this is that Padres fans seem like the least likely to eschew such verbal trash. I can’t imagine what would be said by fans of say the Yankees or Phillies.

    • blade3colorado said, on February 11, 2016 at 9:13 pm

Yeah, it’s like I visualize Padres fans as the ultimate “kick back, from way back” type of people. I’m not even sure they are passionate about anything, other than surfing. Dunno . . .

  19. pawliekokonuts said, on February 11, 2016 at 7:27 pm

    Way to go, Flan.

Blade’s republishing of Loo’s Giants pride post-2012 is simply wonderful. I can identify, as the saying goes.

My buddy Hart Seely (his book of Trump satirical poetry is doing very well) said I hear a dog whistle regarding the finding of Giants fans. And I assume EVERYONE hears the same dog whistle.

  20. zumiee said, on February 11, 2016 at 8:06 pm

I’d go to Fanfest at least once if I lived in the area. But I ain’t traveling 90 miles to the ballpark and 90 miles back if there’s no ballgame involved. 🙂

  21. Flavor said, on February 11, 2016 at 8:11 pm

Bill Walton is currently playing a glockenspiel during a college basketball game. He deserves an Emmy.

    • snarkk said, on February 11, 2016 at 8:31 pm

Bill is like Benjamin Button. He gets older; roles switch and son Luke becomes his father…

  22. Flavor said, on February 11, 2016 at 8:14 pm

how bored must Crawford be to spend all that time recreating that photo of when he was a kid at Candlestick? I mean, why DO that?

    • Bozo said, on February 11, 2016 at 8:34 pm

I think it’s part of the new promos.

  23. snarkk said, on February 11, 2016 at 8:27 pm

I don’t get Twitter, if you are public figure.
You can only lose responding to trolls and dipsticks that dish the insults.
Some use their fame to make money pushing product and such, but I just don’t get why you would bother responding to ding dongs dissing you. On the Flap, sure, why not? 😉

    • blade3colorado said, on February 11, 2016 at 9:18 pm

Twitter has been gold for Trump. I don’t think he’s spent one dime on advertising in the Republican Presidential primaries. He controls the 24 hour news cycle by posting outrageous Twitter bullshit. Whatever else you think about this piece of shit, the dude has been brilliant in controlling the media by their collective nose.
