A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Hunter and Lexi. Enough Already.

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 9, 2016

Pence is going to make his debut some time in the next couple of days. While I am hopeful that he’s focused up on his trade, it seems dumb ass videos aren’t satiating enough for him or his new bride.

Here’s their next venture:

Anyway, looking forward to him getting on the field. Speaking of “the field” I’m also looking forward to hearing more from Snarkk who surprised everyone with his attendance at the game last night.

Hunter’s videos are the burr under Flav’s saddle. We’re all champing at the bit for the season to start. This Arroyo kid has some pop, yeah? What’re the Giants going to do with him? Perhaps he can be converted to LF. Quick compact swing and he’s what, 20 years old?

Great report from The Valley of the Sun, snarkk. Glad you made a Giants game at Scottsdale Stadium. I actually prefer some of the other yards in the area, but Scottsdale (the stadium and old town) both have a killer buzz about them. I dig hanging out at The Salty Senorita or RnR in old town after a game and watching the wildlife.

As others mentioned on the last thread, so good to see Panik back and looking healthy. I did not sit and watch the whole game…had it on in the background and checked in off-and-on. Arroyo had a couple of nice ABs too. The kid looks like he can rake.

Enough already with Pence and his fiancé. Time to put her away and show us he is healthy and can be a big part of this team.

Reds are obviously going to be one of the have nots at bottom of their division. Like the Phils and Braves, wasn’t that long ago they were right in the thick of things and both are now in dreaded full rebuilding mode.

There was something in Chron from our boy the Prez about catching Sanchez no hitter. While Giants have reloaded from farm system and added some good players from trades and FAs since that time, those other teams are floundering. Says a lot about FO and player development, mgr and coaching staff.

Look no further than the 49ers to se what happens when you don’t replenish the talent on the team.

Whitey caught the Sanchez no hitter. I’d forgotten about that. Last night Kuiper said with assurance that during the game Sanchez did not shake off Buster a single time. I thought, wait a minute. 2009? Well, technically I guess Kuiper was right.

Wilcoe, per the last thread, that Skynyrd show was July 1977. Oakland Coliseum, obviously. I had just gotten my drivers license in April of ’77 and the party was on . . .

Snarkk, spring training is one thing I still really want to do. One of these days . . .

Remember 2013 when the Giants drafted Arroyo with the late first round pick and Ryder Jones with their 2nd round pick? Most Giants fans, still awe-struck by the 2012 PS and sweep of the Tigers, viewed the draft picks with skepticism. Jones was a pitcher/corner IF with pop who’d already committed to Stanford. Arroyo, himself committed to FL or FL State or something Iike that, was on no one else’s first-round wish list. Now Arroyo looks ready to cash some big league checks. Jones may develop real power. His arm from 3B is impressive. They’ll be fine, waiting for the call in Sacramento this year, I suppose. But then? Well, what a luxury. Weak farm system my ass.

Strikes me that most of those poobahs who rate the farm systems mostly concern themselves with a combination of tools evaluation and general hype. They do not rate the intangibles ~ which is an area which the Giants seem to have figured out better than most anybody else in the game.

Looking at matters from a faux negative perspective, SF might even be able to weather a moderately severe wave of injuries (granted it depends on just whom) because there is a surprising level of backup in the pipeline.

Poobahs may rate the Labumbos farm system as the best in baseball, but they have yet to accommodate the fact that it is the Giants pipeline which is the steady producer.

snarkk – not sure how long you will be there. You may have been to these places, but if not, I highly recommend them:

Daily Dose (Old Scottsdale) – great breakfast with a full bar.
Grimaldi’s Pizzeria – great pies cooked in a coal-fired oven. Best in Scottsdale, IMO.

And of course, you must make the obligatory visit to Don and Charlie’s (recommend reservations as far in advance as possible). This place is just brimming with all kinds of cool sports memorabilia, esp. Giants.

Come on Chi, wheres the love for drinking heavily at the Rusty Spur?

DOH! Swing and a miss on my part. And it is a historical site to boot, boys!

Yeah, that’s the thing about Arroyo, what position will he play? The infield is solidly locked up for a while. Leftfield seems the obvious choice. Arroyo should be taking flyballs in practice, but it doesn’t sound like the Giants are doing that. Arroyo has bulked up a bit; he doesn’t seem like a middle infielder to me anymore.

Time to jettison OOO and his suspect glove( though the G’s think its legit) and no bat..
My extra bench now is Green& Gillapsie with their overall contact ability and throw on a outfield glove in LF on occasion. Screw Blanks & OOO. Blanks would be a liability in LF and their’s enough 1B backups that would work better as well.

    • zumiee said, on March 9, 2016 at 11:37 am

I’m tired of other teams having better back-up players than the Giants. The Giants can take a big step in a positive direction this season, regarding the bench. Sending O-O-O on his way is a big step in that direction.

Pagan got a haircut, and he just kind of looks older. He’s very much an aging veteran trying to hang on. It’s hard to be confident he’ll be starting in leftfield in the second half of the season.

Cueto knocked around in his first spring start. Mejia looking good.

  12. unca_chuck said, on March 9, 2016 at 1:55 pm

Hah! Jason La Canfora can suck it. He’s wrong about Osweiler, and he’s wrong about Kaepernick. He said Denver was all-in on Osweiler? I guess not at $72 mill for 4 years. For all that, the Texans are nuts for throwing that much coin at him. $18 mill a fucking year? Fuuuuuuck.

Denver is now in play for Kaepernick.

  13. dirtnrocksnomo said, on March 9, 2016 at 2:16 pm

The Texans just can’t seem to develop a QB eh? Seems like they’re always overpaying on the FA market for a QB

    • alleykat69 said, on March 9, 2016 at 2:43 pm

Yeah Dirt that could be said about the Browns as well. Though Johnny Tequila was great entertainment value off the field at least..

      • unca_chuck said, on March 9, 2016 at 2:58 pm

Yup. I think the Browns have gone through 257 QBs since Bernie Kosar. Or was it Brian Sipe?

    • wilcojoe said, on March 9, 2016 at 3:38 pm

Yeah it’s a lot of coin but they didn’t have many options. Other than Goff, there was no one else in the draft worth trading up for. He hasn’t played one snap and he might already be the best QB in the history of the franchise, which obviously isn’t saying much. Then they go get Landry Miller. Not a bad day.

  14. unca_chuck said, on March 9, 2016 at 4:10 pm

Yeah, I’m thinking the Rams might trade up. They saw how well that worked out for the Redskins.

I mean, shit. At least Wash got there once. The Rams got all those draft picks and turned them into nothing.

Chi- I went to the Salty señorita last night after the game, short rib taco was really nice. Waitresses packing about 36DD, sheezus. Thoroughly enjoyed the Giants game. I didn’t see Marty Lurie, but I was really looking for Beercan anyway…

  16. zumiee said, on March 9, 2016 at 8:37 pm

Of course, being the Giants, nothing can ever come truly easy. 🙂 All the starting pitchers got raked in the first week, including Heston and Blackburn.
The Dodgers’ Kasmir got raked today, too.

  17. snarkk said, on March 9, 2016 at 8:56 pm

I have concerns re Pagan in LF. The guy did not look good out there a couple of times– and his throws looked like they came off a wet noodle arm. As said above, time to get Arroyo some reps in LF down in AAA…

    • snarkk said, on March 9, 2016 at 8:57 pm

      Meaning last nights game…

  18. giants54 said, on March 9, 2016 at 9:46 pm

Well, Williamson might throw a wrench in the plans to have Arroyo in LF.

    • giants54 said, on March 9, 2016 at 9:52 pm

Nice problem to have. Maybe Arroyo in LF Williamson in RF when Pence moves on.
