Taking a Strong Hold of First Place in the NL West

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 23, 2016

This is an important 3 game diddy with SD. After these winnable games the Giants go on a tough 10 game road trip and then return home for a couple of high octane series’ v Boston and The Dopes.

So let’s get these 3, ok? With the pitching we have and our 6th in the league scoring offense, I’m feeling pretty confident. Well, with the first 2 anyway.

Truth be told, I’m a little surprised we are ranked 6th in the league in runs scored. We are 3rd weakest in home runs, ahead of only Philly and Atlose-a. I was surprised to see us ranked so highly in SB category (4th with 28). Still, it doesn’t feel like we play the speed game. Either way, runs are runs and we’ve 198 of them. Philly’s only scored 142 and they’re 6 games over .500. Just something to consider…..

As usual, and it will always be this way for us, it comes down to pitching and defense…..

👍 Perfecrly timed, Zume. Was that game reminiscent of 2020, or what!

  14. snarkk said, on May 23, 2016 at 9:55 pm

Cueto is friggin on the way to the AS game. 2 hit shutout. I’m just worried about how many innings he’s tracking so far…

    • unca_chuck said, on May 23, 2016 at 10:08 pm

It ain’t about innings, Snarkk. Cueto throws less in 9 than Skeevie throws in 5…

      • snarkk said, on May 23, 2016 at 10:09 pm

Good point, Chuckles. Guy is always around the plate. Still, he’s throwing a lot. I figure the starters don’t want the Pen getting a shot at blowing it…

    Unreal Giants win baby!!
Kemp looked like a old man staggering for a skink on that one!!
Cueto another win, guy can do know wrong!!

Johnny being interviewed and responding in the Dominican tongue, and Tony Bennett in the background…now that is some beautiful stuff right there….

Btw dog, I was at game 2 at the cow palace in ’75. Saw an aging Nate Thurmond struggle for the Bulls in those playoffs as well. That trade pissed me off no end. I was happy as shit they moved it back to the cow Palace for the finals though.

Saw the replay of Pagan getting hurt again. Again. Fuck.

Cueto is a fucking stud. 3 CGs against the Pads. You guys might hate ’em but Johnny C loves him some Friars.

    • snarkk said, on May 23, 2016 at 10:11 pm

The cold weather isn’t doing Pagan any good. DL the guy and let him get healthy in the warmer climes of Arizona or Sac. Bring up Williamson and let him play for two weeks…

Good thoughts out to Voggy. Saw on internet his wife said it looks like he’s going to be OK. But, looks like a broken bone around the left eye and possible broken nose, too…

  22. snarkk said, on May 23, 2016 at 10:36 pm

Sharks one home game win from reaching the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time ever. I’m not a hockey guy, but shoot, that sounds pretty damn good if they can do it…

  23. zumiee said, on May 23, 2016 at 10:39 pm

BF was right that Cueto was a slam-dunk for Fantasy teams tonight.

  24. snarkk said, on May 23, 2016 at 10:43 pm

Here’s my existential question for the night:
If your otherwise routine pop up out turns into a walk off double due to the weird winds and some poor execution by the opposition defenders, do you really deserve to be jumped on, hit, twisted and sorta tackled in the usual walkoff melee by your teammates? The Giants say yes! If Pence didn’t have a hammy problem before, he’s probably got one now after the scrum his teammates put him into after his pop up that won the game…

  25. snarkk said, on May 23, 2016 at 10:54 pm

I just heard Pagan likely to go onto the DL, which pisses me off big time. They screwed around with Pagan the first time he tweaked this hammy, didn’t DL him, but kept him active for 10 days and didn’t play him, wasting a roster spot. Then they played him the other day just a couple of days before he would have come out of a DL stint. If they had properly DLed him, and got him on rehab somewhere else, brought up Parker or Williamson, maybe Pagan heals that damn thing right the first time. Then he wouldn’t have gotten the re-aggravation tonight in arctic conditions, which injury they are saying may be WORSE than the original injury, and take longer now than a couple of weeks to heal up totally. Absolute BULLSHIT injury management…

    • bassbaldy said, on May 23, 2016 at 11:27 pm

And to add insult to injury, so to speak, Pagan ain’t done much since he returned … but who has? He came on pretty strong the first couple of games back then that was it, he went in the tank with the everyone else.

  26. willedav said, on May 23, 2016 at 11:16 pm

Snarkk, I hear you on the playing short handed thing, but I have a feeling Pagan injury stuff is a little more complicated. I remember when he first got hurt, he said himself it wasn’t a big deal.
Remember too, the team is NOT allowed to say anything without his consent. My gut tells me he kept saying it was getting better/he was closer to coming back and balked at going on the DL—kinda like a lot of last year.

And last year he had a great start and then as he declined physically, so did his defense and his batting.
I just think the idea he will stay healthy and productive is wishful thinking, on his and team’s part.

Bottom line? Giants at this point are probably a better team without him; he’s certainly not a 5 hitter like tonite. And I think I’d bring up Parker, who might run into one or three. He’d get my vote for next Giant to get a Splash bomb.

Team is hot. Bounces are going their way. Pitching is superb. Defense superlative. But they can’t hit for shit. Is Pagan down for a bunch? Has Balls to the walls Pence strained himself with that winning bloop? After a slow, stumbling start in the month the team is making hay in May. That’s happened with this team many times before, dating clear back to the 60’s. Will this lead to a June swoon or will they stay in tune?
Hitting simply has to improve. Meanwhile, let’s enjoy this string in case a reversal stings us in the can.
