A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Most Improbable Win of The Season?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 19, 2016

When Justin Freaking Ruggiano hits a grand slam off your best pitcher and you are now down 4-0 to one the best pitchers in the National League and your team can’t hit and the crowd is as deflated as a beach ball caught on barbed wire……

And then THAT happens? I couldn’t believe what I was watching.

The win didn’t do much to move the needle on my feelings about this team. There has just been too much bullshit to be excited right now. But I did enjoy a nice exhale as the sea gulls took over and we got to take a W instead of what looked like a certain L.

Agent Zero and Nunie getting it done!

  2. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:21 pm

That WAS some bad ass D last half inning. Pence’s catch was unreal, and Nunie flashing some fine leather.

  3. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:22 pm

    Graybeard!

  4. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:23 pm

    The ground attack is working.

  5. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:23 pm

And a two-out rally to boot!

  6. zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:24 pm

    Hit’em where they ain’t!

  7. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:26 pm

I’m sorry but these are fucking killing me . . . this is some seriously funny shit. And he’s at the Stick to boot.

  8. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:28 pm

Strickland is scaring me right now.

  9. djloo27 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:33 pm

    Bad decision by Belt…

  10. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:33 pm

    Wrong play there Belt.

  11. snarkk said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:35 pm

I think Nunez is the fastest dude on the Giants since Velez…

  12. zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:35 pm

No situational awareness by Belt there. I don’t get it.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:37 pm

He would have gotten him with a better throw but still you take the easy out to avoid a bigger mess.

  13. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:36 pm

    Oy vey

  14. djloo27 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:36 pm

Can’t believe Keith Hernandez thinks it was the right play.
It was wrong for every reason imaginable…

  15. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:38 pm

Giants are lucky the ball didn’t squirt into the OF and have runners at …

    Nevermind.

    Nice play THAT time.

  16. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:38 pm

Holy shit! These guys are fucking unconscious in the field.

  17. zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:39 pm

Nice play! Belt had the good angle there.

  18. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:40 pm

If Lopez can live in the bottom 2″ of the strike zone he’ll be fine.

  19. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:41 pm

    Smoker? I barely know her.

    I’m here all week. . .

  20. sandog said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:48 pm

Yeah, questionable decisions by Belt, but it is funny listening to Keith Hernandez and hear how excited he is to finally find another lefty 1B who is as aggressive as he was throwing the ball all over the diamond trying to get the lead runner.
Zum: didn’t even think about how you Bay Area guys don’t have the option to avoid Kook and Kwipe. Seems like most of you dig their schtick, but that sucks that you don’t have the option to go to the visitors broadcast if the housewife humor ever gets tiresome.
Willie: good call on Loney being a bit of a modern day Wes Parker!

  21. djloo27 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:49 pm

    Terrible 0-2 pitch…

  22. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:49 pm

    WTF? That was way outside.

Jesus. The pitcher should be shot for getting anywhere near the strike zone.

  23. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:50 pm

    Another good call by Kelly.

Did someone read him the riot act?

  24. zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:50 pm

Actual growth from Kelly? Are we actually seeing that? Dare to believe?

    • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:57 pm

Well come on…you read the McCovey Chron article someone posted here the other day…per that article Kelly is a genius. Not really, I believe it said he is above average…

  25. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:55 pm

Just keep adding on, baby! Ground attack…

  26. zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:55 pm

    Smart play, Pence.

  27. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:57 pm

Unreal. Bochy stealing, Kelly making solid decisions, great leather, timely hits. . .

Is the all star break finally over???

    • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:59 pm

It was the Garcia/Grateful Dead game that has them turning the corner. 😉

  28. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:58 pm

FINALLY – the Giants not only playing well, but getting the breaks going their way!

  29. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:59 pm

Holy shmoly. These guys are the defending national league champs?

    • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:00 pm

They are missing a lot of pieces…1st, 3rd, and just got Cespedes back today. And their starter was a scratch. But, you still have to play the games…fucking sweep of these guys would be just what the doctor ordered!

  30. zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 9:59 pm

Man, we were due for some breaks.

  31. djloo27 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:00 pm

Mets may have quit on Collins…

    • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:01 pm

You really think so, Loo? I don’t watch the Mets enough to have a good read on that…

      • djloo27 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:03 pm

He humiliated them at a post game PC a few days ago…

      • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:04 pm

Ain’t NOBODY got time for that shit!

  32. djloo27 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:02 pm

With the big lead, they should buzz someone for that pitch at Belt’s head by dick Smoker…

  33. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:03 pm

Hey, zumiee, have you secretly been at these last two Mets games?…

    • zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:32 pm

      🙂

  41. sandog said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:13 pm

Span just might get a positive comment from someone on here besides me, Blade,or Willie. Highly unlikely, but possible. After all, he still needs to raise his average another 30-40 points to meet expectations.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:15 pm

The journey begins with but a step . . .

    • sandog said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:17 pm

I hadn’t read comments in a while, so I missed that he got some love. Not really love, but at least a couple of snarky mentions that he hasn’t sucked ass for a couple of games. Anyway, that’s progress. I guess.

    • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:19 pm

Overall, Span is definitely looking better. Not only does he need to up his BA, but his OBP, too.

    • snarkk said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:20 pm

Hey, I’ll give him some love. He’s looked more energetic lately, and had some good, productive games offensively. About damn time…

  42. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:18 pm

Get Kontos the fuck outta there, NOW!

  43. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:20 pm

    Ballgame! Rolling Rolling Rolling…

  44. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:21 pm

    Ooops. Nice play by Kontos

  45. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:21 pm

Thank goodness for Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead tribute nights…

  46. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:21 pm

Back to first ! Overall though a very well played game.

  47. snarkk said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:22 pm

    Pinch me.
2 straight wins, 10 runs and 8 runs.
Maybe they’re pulling out of the nosedive, and starting a good streak.
    Hitting is contagious, they say…

very nice win. after the dead day, defense may be the catalyst to fire this team UP!

While we have had 2 improving defensive games with plays that fire a team up, the opponents are making defensive miscues.

  51. snarkk said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:25 pm

Alright. Onto tomorrow and let’s lay some wood on Bartolo Colon…

  52. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:30 pm

    OK, last one . . .

    • zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:49 pm

      He had a 4-HR game!

  53. xoot said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:31 pm

The Giants played good ball all around, scrappy on offense, sharp on D. Johnny C was fine, and I love the way he pays tribute to the players behind him who get him out of jams. Meanwhile, the mets looked terrible (except for that AAA pitcher who managed to get through a lot of innings with a very low pitch count). Still, a two game win streak against a tough opponent. The future’s so bright . . . .

Whenever I see your smiling face
        I have to smile myself…
Whenever I see you smile at me
No one can tell me that I’m doing wrong today…

    • eddacker said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:38 pm

that inning were he got 3 outs on 4 pitches was epic.

  54. zumiee said, on August 19, 2016 at 10:47 pm

Span is playing well in August. He didn’t want to rush into anything. 🙂

  55. xoot said, on August 19, 2016 at 11:25 pm

this branding value hagioIatry is too much. Why trot Tony Bennett out there? I know a guy who’s 90. He sorta looks like Tony Bennett, especially when you ask him, do you know what day it is today?

    • djloo27 said, on August 20, 2016 at 9:00 am

I had to look up that word, Xoot and I basically agree with you. I think the intention is to let guys like Tony Bennett hear the cheers one last time. But one last time has a tendency to turn into 20 last times….and for what? A song?

  56. willedav said, on August 20, 2016 at 7:42 am

Bruce doesn’t look same here as he did in Reds uni. I think he’s hitting below .200 for them with only a couple HRs.
Read a bunch of comments from irate Mets fans on Comcast NY site, not too happy with anyone from GM to mgr to farm system lack of position players yada yada.

  57. willedav said, on August 20, 2016 at 8:03 am

I’m not a big fan of Jon Miller, but at least he and Flem will bring up individual stats when talking about a player. their OPS or OB, splits vs. LHP/RHP, yada yada.
You will never hear anything like this from K/K ever, unless a guy has been hot. Struggling? never.
Maybe they are too old school to have any respect for sabr numbers.
