A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Awards vs Flags

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 25, 2016

Dave Roberts won the Sporting News Manager of the Year and that’s not a surprise. He deserved it. As a fan, I used to care about those individual awards a lot. Then 3 in 5 happened and I literally couldn’t care less about them.

World Series starts TONIGHT. No more false starts right? Tonight is the night?

I don’t want to send anyone (Loo) into an obsessive search but I am pretty fixated on finding that Stix post about *pussy all over his bed*. I am guessing it was in one of the Winter months but I don’t want to send anyone down the wrong path. Anyway, here’s today’s #FreeStix! RPOTD:

28 below zero hereabouts at sunup this morning but only -2 now. So i’m basking, basking, basking. Opened up the monday sports section in the as previously unread October 27 edition of the New York Times. Their front cover story read “A Giant among Giants”, a very nice piece on Sabean and his trail of successes. They must have been reading tealeaves. Series was tied at 2-2 with Bumgarner going against that loser at San Diego, now.

Friend who did 22 heavy years time living in Manhattan still gets the NYT and i get them after a few weeks. Love the crossword puzzles ~ though Schortz should not ALLOW popkultch krap in the Friday and Saturday ones as they’re hard enough to do already without having to know the identity of some goddamn boobtoob booby starring in some 1986 mindrot. In any event, i saved up the critical mid-October and early November issues for pre-S.T. enjoyment. And man did i enjoy that October 27th one.

eh, Roberts can have that one. Like the 4 division titles/90 games won by his team, ultimately meaningless as I look to the right…28 and counting down there in SoCal.
NL was so weird this season, big divide btw haves/have nots. Just a lot of bad teams out there, at least 2 in every division.

See what Evans can come up with this off season. Dodgers have a lot of FAs and will have big holes to fill if some of them (Hill Reddick Jansen Turner) leave. They also have some underproductive old fart vets under contract and questions in rotation. In other words they’ll be busy and it’s up to Evans to have a better team ready to go by ST.

Stix is right-on about the crossword puzzles.

and how rad is it that he has his buddy mail them to him from NY? Am I reading that right?

      • sandog said, on October 25, 2016 at 9:13 am

I don’t know if he mails them, but he hands them down to him somehow and that is pretty damn cool.

I’m kind of old fashioned guy myself, but I can’t remember the last time I held a newspaper in my hands.

Zero interest for me, but WS holds a big one for K and K, on opposite sides. Both came up with respective teams and maintain strong rooting interest. by next year guarantee you’ll hear one of them use the World Series Champions as an epithet, good natured, to the other.

I predict that if the Cubs win it all they will not only bring back Bartman for the flag raising, they will also give him a ring…

    • alleykat69 said, on October 25, 2016 at 10:27 am

If I’m Bartman I would tell the whole city of Chicago to “FUCK OFF”

  5. Flavor said, on October 25, 2016 at 10:32 am

the best thing ever would be if Marlins Man took Bartman to Game 3 as his guest. Right behind home plate. How awesome would that be?

    D. Minn. update Case No. 016-cr-00256 from PACER. Stix filed two very short handwritten motions last week. One seeks Freedom of Information Act disclosure of his personal FBI file from 1962 to the present. The other says that he wants to waive his speedy trial rights at this stage of the case. Stix also filed a longer computer-generated motion seeking to suppress all of the evidence the government gathered against him. That motion asserts basic 4th Amendment search and seizure arguments, but he cites only the landmark US Supreme Court cases (Justice Frankfurter creating the “fruit of the poisonous tree” doctrine, for example). Apparently he has access to a criminal procedure handbook. I have no idea if he properly filed his motions, but his briefing, while still respectful in tone, has become more direct.

One detail in the big motion: Stix asserts that at an early hearing in the case the government acknowledged that the chopper buzzed him at an altitude of 100 feet.

No developments yet related to Stix’s earlier motion to dismiss, etc. I’ll check the case from time to time and email anything momentous to Craig.

    • Flavor said, on October 25, 2016 at 11:43 am

wow! thanks this is great info. I mean tho, if it’s him asserting it, who cares right? No proof they were flying that low. Oh I jsut re-read it. Shouldn’t their be something in writing if the govt acknowledged this at some point?

      • xoot said, on October 25, 2016 at 12:40 pm

the transcript of the hearing would reveal exactly what the government said

      • xoot said, on October 25, 2016 at 12:40 pm

I don’t think you can get that on PACER for 10 cents a page, however.

  7. unca_chuck said, on October 25, 2016 at 10:53 am

Yeah he gets ’em in the mail. Funny, when I lived in Colo I had my mom and a couple friends mail me sporting greens as you couldn’t get anything about nothing but the broncos in Colo.

And they’d pre-empt the national games for Broncos games even though they were on another channel. It was infuriating.

  8. unca_chuck said, on October 25, 2016 at 10:58 am

100 feet is low. Even for the Feds. It begs the question how fast were they flying? He might be able to plead down to he was firing a warning shot that went awry. If the fuckers were at 100′ traveling at 100 MPH who’s to say what his intent was? If they were hovering there, that’s Different.

Shit I don’t know. I’m no lawyer but at some point this gets to be harassment. If they had a problem they could drive up and talk to Stix. It’s not like he’s in some sort of fortress.

  9. unca_chuck said, on October 25, 2016 at 11:00 am

    Justice Frankfurter?

    • willedav said, on October 25, 2016 at 12:26 pm

      SC, Felix iirc.

Maybe Cubs get Moises to hand the ring to Bartman. Don’t hear much about Alous these days, wonder what they are up to?

Feel good only for Billy Williams, one of my fav hitters even tho he often burned Giants and from same area as Mays Aaron I think.

      • willedav said, on October 25, 2016 at 12:29 pm

get mixed up who is from Mobile or Birmingham…I saw Williams name in one of the bios, might have been Aaron’s.

      • unca_chuck said, on October 25, 2016 at 1:18 pm

        Ernie Banks?

    • xoot said, on October 25, 2016 at 12:45 pm

Felix, indeed. Only the second Jewish judge on the Supreme Court (Brandeis was first). Much different lately.

      • xoot said, on October 25, 2016 at 1:02 pm

well, I was wrong about that. Benjamin Cardozo was the second Jewish justice.

I know J. Edgar was a cross dresser, but Judge Frank N Furter? Let’s do the time warp again . . .

      • Flavor said, on October 25, 2016 at 8:21 pm

volleyball. We beat them 2-0 but they were competitive.

  16. zumiee said, on October 25, 2016 at 7:33 pm

Big moment in the game, and the Cleveland batter gets called out on a Lester pitch that is 8 inches outside.

    • pawliekokonuts said, on October 25, 2016 at 7:53 pm

      thanks for the review!!!!

  17. pawliekokonuts said, on October 25, 2016 at 7:53 pm

Jason Kipnis grew up down the street or something like that from Steve Bartman. Likes him. Defends him. Tribe in 6.

Is David Ross related to ‘our’ beloved Cody Ross? They look it.

  22. Macdog said, on October 25, 2016 at 8:37 pm

    Dubs down 18 at half.

  23. unca_chuck said, on October 25, 2016 at 8:38 pm

Did he get a ring or was he pre 2010?

Meanwhile the Dubs are getting smoked. Undersized and missing shots. Down by 18 at the half.

    • snarkk said, on October 25, 2016 at 8:43 pm

They may have an adjustment period. Tons of new guys. Give ’em 20 games to get it together…

  24. unca_chuck said, on October 25, 2016 at 8:45 pm

Yeah. What bothers me though is it is the same issues. Turnovers, depending on the 3, getting killed on the boards.

  25. unca_chuck said, on October 25, 2016 at 8:48 pm

Buck is still talking about Kershaw! Jesus. Posted a pretty funny pic on fb with Buck and Opie as bride and groom.

Man this strike zone is horrid.

  26. Macdog said, on October 25, 2016 at 8:51 pm

I liked the Cubs batter with the bat flip and admiring his hit, which almost was caught, down 6-0 in the 9th.

Game one in the Series went exactly as hoped. A sweep of possible for the Indians….Spurs with a complete slap down….shocking…

  29. gianthead said, on October 25, 2016 at 9:42 pm

This Dubs team better be embarrassed about this performance…

  30. unca_chuck said, on October 25, 2016 at 10:26 pm

SA won’t likely shoot that good again all season.

Yeah it dearly but the troubling thing is these issues are the same as last year and we are softer defensively without Ezeli.

  31. Macdog said, on October 25, 2016 at 10:32 pm

    I guess the Warriors aren’t going 82-0.

  32. eddacker said, on October 25, 2016 at 11:13 pm

Well, looks like this Cleveland team is as interesting as I have been hearing since the ASG. That first inning was awesome. No matter what team is playing in these 2016 playoffs/wsg there is at least one player that the Giants FO tried to get (or gave up).
    K&K = cubs v injuns.
Did anyone hear tickets at Wrigley were being offered north of half a million? Talk about season ticket payback.

    • eddacker said, on October 25, 2016 at 11:19 pm

I had caught something on the radio in passing. Apparently I didn’t hear it correctly. a troll of the internet shows 5-7K as top prices.
