Pre-December Considerations

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 29, 2016

For like 3 seconds I actually considered the Giants signing the recently non-tendered Chris Carter. I slapped myself back into focus but I DID consider it.

If i wanted to go skiing it would be simply a matter of walking out the back door and strapping them on. That is one advantage of living here on the edge of the tundra. Disadvantages too. This morning at nine it was two below ~ here, not in Tupelo. Though i did see recently where a Mississippi town set an all-time low recently. Yesterday, so did Weaverville, Cali, wherever the eff that is ~ probably in the Sierras or somewhere near. Been one crazy winter.

    “Propinquity”

I’m fairly certain I missed this post from Stix based upon this one word, which I have never heard of before, much less seen it used in a sentence. lulz.

I learned that word about 50 years ago when Batman said it to the very hot Catwoman (Julie Newmar)…

Which begs the question, whatever happened to Eartha Kitt?

        Back to the Earth.

LMAO…I had it for Catwoman, too, Loo! Meow…

iirc, Sandoval in 2014 last year here was awful from right side, and basically gave up switching eventually. Gillaspie/Nunez at fraction of cost likely provide just as much offense. go get a real RH.

Looking forward to Wed night match up at Maples Stanford hosting local standout St. Mary’s ranked 12th in country. Their strength, guard play and outside shooting is exactly Cards weakness.
I watched Stanford play Seton Hall on neutral court and their point guard Sanders had 1 assist 5 turnovers 1 hoop in 25 minutes. Fortunately their bigs and small forward Pickens did well and the Hall was even worse 2-17 on 3s (Cards 2-15).

Which doesn’t bode well for the Hall in Big East, very strong league. Kadeem Carrington was fine, others no.

My daughter’s as well . . . She was there the same 4 years as Matthew Dellavedova.

        Saw him and Olynyck (?) play a lot . . .

I see that Trump “overdosed” on his Twitter account late last night, e.g., burn the flag, you should go to jail, blah, blah, blah.

If any of you guys hear jackboots on the ground, where storm troopers are about to arrest you and throw away the key (as they’ll likely do to Stix) – remember that you have sanctuary in Vietnam. Of course, you’ll have to hope your passport isn’t confiscated at the airport. In that case, I suggest you go via Mexico, Cuba or Canada.

    • zumiee said, on November 29, 2016 at 8:31 am

His tweets are the most unnerving thing about him. It’s an unfiltered view into his immature, ignorant, and petulant mind. It’s a sad situation for the U.S. The nation and the world are going to have a very challenging 4 years.
      Hang in there, world!
I’m watching very little news on TV anymore.
Reading, listening to music, and all the things that bring me joy. As Bob Mould sang: “I can see a little light….”

    • willedav said, on November 29, 2016 at 8:45 am

I’d expect a rolling back of thawing relations with Cuba. Already couple of his closest advisers are asking “what’s in it for us?”

Reminds me of that old saying from Mexico: Poor Mexico, so far from God so close to the United States.

  4. unca_chuck said, on November 29, 2016 at 8:27 am

Tell ya one thing, if we start rattling sabers and going to war over some fucking tweet from Kim Jong Un I am leaving the country. Or sending my son to Belize. No fucking way I’m sending my son into harm’s way over a fucking butt-hurt child overreacting to misbegotten statements from another lunatic.

I’m still of a mind that Trump still doesn’t happen somehow. December 18th is the key day.

We need a hacker a la Assange to find a link to Trump and the Russians regarding the DNC email hacking. Treason. Trump is out. The Electoral College throws in with (urk) Hillary. Not the best of situations, but a hell of a lot better than the tweeting fucking idiot.

    • chipower9 said, on November 29, 2016 at 9:14 am

I am with you BIG TIME on this one, Charlie! I hope beyond all hope that something transpires to keep that lunatic out of the Oval Office. Bernie should have been the Dem nomination. He would have beat Trump hands fucking down! Grrrr….

    • gianthead said, on November 29, 2016 at 9:50 am

If something happened to Trump, electors would not determine the presidency (electors picking their own candidate would be the ultimate constitutional crisis and certainly enough electors from enough Red states would not be picking Hillary.) The potential would be no candidate has 270 electoral votes and that would throw the decision to the House of Reps and would expect enough of Republican states if Trump is incapacitated would then vote for Pence as the next President.

      • unca_chuck said, on November 29, 2016 at 10:21 am

It may be a constitutional crisis and all, but the electors can vote how they want. there are very few states that mandate they vote with the popular vote in their states. The electoral college was designed to stop the verry thing that is happening. And that is a very unqualifed guy becoming president.

      • unca_chuck said, on November 29, 2016 at 10:28 am

GH, it may be a constitutional crisis and all, but the electors can vote how they want. If there is some sort of Trumpian epic disaster between now and the 19th, the electoral college can very well vote Hillary in. There are very few states that mandate they vote with the popular vote in their states. The electoral college was designed to stop the very thing that is happening. And that is a very unqualified guy becoming president.

:Look, I don’t see it happening, but I also know trump could very well trip over his dick and still blow this somehow.

      • gianthead said, on November 29, 2016 at 11:42 am

Chuck, there are 27 states at least that bleed Repub blood. If their electors announced that they would vote Hillary, I guarantee you that they won’t make the plane ride to DC…

  6. blade3colorado said, on November 29, 2016 at 8:40 am

Great posts by both Zum and Unca . . . Yes, I do think his late night tweets are the most unsettling thing about Trump. Who in the fuck does something like that? Man, I know Trump is sober (never has touched a drop of alcohol) and drug free, but it’s almost as if he is on some kind of cocaine or meth run, lasting days.

I hadn’t really thought about this imbecile sending our sons and daughters into battle, but your point is noted as well Chuck. Scary fucking shit.

    • chipower9 said, on November 29, 2016 at 9:15 am

I mean this truly…no joke. I think Trump has mental illness. The dude needs to be checked-out by a shrink before he gets the keys to the White House, and the nuclear arsenal.

  7. willedav said, on November 29, 2016 at 8:58 am

Wow Julie Newmar, pretty hot stuff for the campy Batman show slinking around in her leather catsuit trying to tempt Bruce Wayne over to the other side. I kinda thought most of the other villains just went along with the over the top theme for laughs. The fake fight scenes with the thought bubbles, the narration, the car…

Fleming, when he raises his voice when he gets excited, reminds me of the Boy Wonder.

  8. chipower9 said, on November 29, 2016 at 9:17 am

Flav – for those three seconds, what were your thoughts? Platoon at first and in LF with Belt? You think Pat the Bat was a piece of work in the OF…Carter was fucking horrible out there.

  9. Flavor said, on November 29, 2016 at 9:47 am

Carter can’t play defense. I know it didn’t matter to the Giants when they signed Morse. But I feel like they care more about defense now. Just my gut.

I seem to recall that many, many years ago, you were bringing up the possible health issues and/or declining skills associated with his weight. It sure looks like you called that one, big time (no pun intended).

Sad to see the break down. I loved watching Pablo play with that enthusiasm of a kid. Swinging at balls in the dirt or over his head could be maddening but those times when he connected it was just wow city. Maybe he’ll get in enough shape to DH for the Sox, although someone might have to keep an eye on him between ABs.

St. Mary’s always been a fav of mine. Zags are loaded this year tho, size and shooters. Hope SMC can get in the dance at least and maybe pick them off at home. That’s their issue tho, strength of sched. End of the year, who did they beat? Stanford isn’t gonna matter, BYU neither.
My mentor guy coached at local public school and won Section championship with a gal who later played at SMC, when the Japanese gal was coaching.

    • chipower9 said, on November 29, 2016 at 10:37 am

Yeah, comparing the two schedules (SMC and Zags) SMC’s schedule is weak as hell. Gonzaga plays a couple of non-conf games against top 25 schools.

      • willedav said, on November 29, 2016 at 10:52 am

that was committee’s knock last year–you won 20+ games but vs. who? Zags won this past weekend tournament by beating Iowa St. usually Big 12 power on neutral court.

OK, chew on this one. California Dems just won super majority in both legislative houses, and Dems have held monopoly on major statewide offices for years. The Senate election was between 2 Demo ladies and local gal Pelosi has been minority leader in House. And of course voters in bay area overwhelmingly backed Clinton.
Cal economy is thriving for most part, unemployment is low and it’s home to innovative companies and great universities.

Saw a rant in chron editorials about how folks here are elitist and out of touch with rest of America (save other elitist urbanites on east coast), as proven by election results.

So are we ahead of the curve or on an island soon to be set adrift by neo cons and Freedom Caucus?

We could always secede. Orygun and Washington are game.

    • gianthead said, on November 29, 2016 at 11:47 am

There would be a ton of happy Democrats in DC to be rid of Pelosi and the rest of the Red states would be pretty happy without three west coast states and those 6 Dem held Senate seats…

Some of you Flappers on the Left forget that it was neo-cons like myself who liked Hillary more than Trump because of her hawkish views. Hillary was going to be much tougher in international affairs and likely to use military force much more than the neo-isilationist views of Trump…

Chris Carter? I’m down with that. Redwood City boy if I’m not mistaken. Has lots of power and hits right handed. Those are 2 boxes I like to see checked. No sense bringing in any more lefty bats to get ruined by our ballpark IMO.

Adam West/Burt Ward Batman is far and away the best version of Batman ever on TV or the silver screen as far as I’m concerned.

  17. Flavor said, on November 29, 2016 at 12:03 pm

Sure, Chris Carter, whatever. I’m a little irritated that the Giants have no problem throwing 120 million at Matt Cain’s half broke arm but Cespedes costs too much.

I saw a lot of Chris Carter in Houston. Trust me, you don’t want him. Nice guy in the clubhouse but he strikes out way too much and his power has likely been a byproduct of playing in bandboxes. Last year was a career year and other than all the home runs, there is little to like.

  23. chipower9 said, on November 29, 2016 at 3:13 pm

Agree AK. Also, one of my all time favorite movies (all of the Connery Bond movies were).

      • snarkk said, on November 29, 2016 at 11:46 pm

Yeah, I liked Goldfinger a lot, too. Any of the Connery one’s I liked, though Diamonds Are Forever was getting a little silly towards the end. The one-off “Never say Never Again”, Connery’s last, was just OK. Any Bond movie with Roger Moore sucked, just too kitschy and silly, even dumb. Lazenby’s one film with Diana Rigg was OK, Timothy Dalton sucked, Pierce Brosnan was pretty decent, I like Daniel Craig — more like going back to Connery style. Fav Bond girls: Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress) in Dr. No; Domino (Claudine Auger) in Thunderball; Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman) in Goldfinger; Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) in The Spy Who Loved Me; Elektra King (Sophie Marceau) in The World is Not Enough; Jinx Johnson, (Halle Berry) in Die Another Day; Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) in Casino Royale. Sophie Marceau was in Braveheart, played the King’s son’s betrothed who was sent as an emissary to William Wallace. She was impossibly gorgeous in that role. “Goldfinger” by Shirley Bassey = best Bond song…

      • blade3colorado said, on November 30, 2016 at 1:24 am

Yeah, agree about Diamonds Are Forever, which I thought was a template for the dumb ass Bond movies Roger Moore made. I’m a Connery (Bond and anything else) expert, e.g., I must have seen each of the Bond movies he made, at least a dozen times, some even more. It was a great treat to visit some of the film locations he shot in Instanbul for From Russia With Love during my around the world trip. As much as I liked the Connery films, I can say that I missed most of the Moore series, i.e., I loved the Lazenby film and wished he had stayed on versus that idiot Moore. Film had an edge to it (especially the beginning) and thought with time, he would have made the role his. Apparently, money was an issue (isn’t it always?). Dalton was terrible – too much of a wimp. Thought Brosnan was only ok too. Fairly certain I missed 1 or 2 of his Bond films. Craig rocks and he’s almost as good as Connery (of course, I am biased toward Connery).

Best villain Odd Job, with a close 2nd to Red Grant. Everyone else not even close. You covered the females and did a good job, but NO love for Daniele Bianchi (Russian love interest in From Russia With Love)?

Defense of Stix update. Stix’s recently re-retained federal public defender filed half a dozen motions last week. They’re succinct. A couple of them appear to reassert motions to suppress wrongfully obtained evidence that Stix himself took a run at earlier in the case. The government will oppose the motions. I’ll keep tabs on the court’s rulings.

Black Mirror on Netflix is entertaining. The initial episode of season 1 is the place to start, if you can. The British PM is forced to fuck a pig on live tv to save the life of the kidnapped royal princess. The government’s early attempts to use a porn actor photoshopped with the PM’s head backfire badly.
