WilcoJoe 2

Blade 1

    Kelly Downs!!!

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:06 am

      negative! But good guess!

  2. Lurker John said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:23 am

These things are killing me! On the tip of my tongue, but I can’t get it.

  3. Lurker John said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:23 am

    Not Brenly.

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:20 am

nope. He was the one I thought others would mistakenly guess.

  4. sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:38 am

    Renie Martin

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:54 am

negative but that is a fabulous guess.

  5. sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:47 am

I also want to take a crack at Loo’s question about the all white 1978 Yankees lineup at the end of the World Series:

    C: Thurman Munson
    1B: Jim Spencer
    2B: Brian Doyle
    SS: Bucky Dent
    3B: Graig Nettles
    LF: Fred Stanley
    CF: Juan Beniquez
    RF: Lou Piniella

I know Beniquez has got to be wrong and Stanley in the outfield is also a reach, but I couldn’t come up with any other white outfielders. I don’t think they had re-acquired Bobby Murcer by then.

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:55 am

I love that you don’t look any of this up. Also without looking it up, I’m pretty sure Murcer was one of the guys.

    • willedav said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:13 am

It started re: Thomasson so he had to be in there. You got way more than I would have; wonder who was on the mound.

      • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 9:07 am

Right Willie……..Gossage on the hill – Jay Johnstone in the OF

  6. alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:05 am

Think I have it but I’m gonna Honor Magnus 1 vote Flap guess😫

  7. willedav said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:17 am

In honor of Feb Hist month, I do remember watching NBA in the ’60s when Auerbach put 5 black players on the floor—KC and Sam Jones Russell Satch Sanders and Willie Naulls. Philly also did this with Wilt Chet Walker Luke Jackson Greer and Wali Jones.
Early days of course, like baseball most NBA teams had a quota of maybe 3 and this was league wide. I read the bio on Billy McGill who late in his career was trying to make the Warriors during Barry days. Thurmond told him flat out, Hill, they ain’t keeping 2 black centers.

  8. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:20 am

If it’s not Kelly Downs then it’s Champ Summers…

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:30 am

I’m counting this as a win since he technically wasn’t guessing Downs. It IS Champ Summers!

      • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:54 am

Thank you, Flav. I knew from Kat’s post that it wasn’t Downs who would’ve been my first guess.
        They look so much alike.
        I benefitted by laying back.
Sometimes this is a game of strategy!

  9. chipower9 said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:25 am

Only 11 daze until pitchers and catchers report…

  10. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:33 am

Since Loo has now catapulted himself into the place spot, I have uploaded a new player. Anyone that says Flappers don’t know how to grind through a long winter is fucking batshit crazy.

  11. blade3colorado said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:36 am

    Arroyo

    • blade3colorado said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:38 am

As in Christian Arroyo . . . If there is any doubt.

  12. sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:39 am

    Mike Aldrete?

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:51 am

      The right eyebrow says Aldrete…

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:54 am

      Winner

      • chipower9 said, on February 3, 2017 at 9:07 am

FUCK…that was gonna by my guess.

  13. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 8:58 am

I’m busy now, will pop another one up by lunch

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 9:05 am

      It’s lunchtime here.
      East coast bias!

      • chipower9 said, on February 3, 2017 at 9:08 am

Go have a three martini lunch, and we’ll be back in touch. 😉

  14. unca_chuck said, on February 3, 2017 at 9:01 am

Shit. My torrid start likely cools the fuck off as I’l be on the road this afternoon. And I’m thinking, ‘no fucking way that’s champ summers!’ Then I see that it was changed. About 7 times.

  15. sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 9:12 am

Loo–give us the answer to the Yankee question. Or is it posted somewhere already?

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 9:15 am

      From your list above:
      Subtract: Stanley & Beniquez
Add: Thomasson – Jay Johnstone – Gossage

  16. zumiee said, on February 3, 2017 at 9:26 am

The Sporting News baseball preview magazine has the Giants losing the NL Wild Card game to the Cardinals. The Cubs defeating the Cards, and the Nats defeating the Dodgers, and the Cubs going to the World Series and defeating Boston, who will have defeated Cleveland in the ALCS.
Well, I would like our chances vs. the Cards in that Wild Card game. I’m feeling pretty confident against the Cards these days. I don’t see how the magazine could pick the Nats over the Dodgers. Maybe one of these days the Nats will actually win a playoff series.

  17. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:09 am

Ok, new guy is up, standings updated.

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:25 am

      Joel Youngblood?

      • sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:30 am

        I think you nailed it.

      • snarkk said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:36 am

That would have been my guess, and the first one I’ve had even a hunch about…

    • snarkk said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:40 am

Either or both K&K have said before that Youngblood was the best or one of their best Giants teammates…

  18. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:36 am

So I just checked baseball reference and the dumbass trivia question that every dope like me has been using for 40 years is wrong. Thomasson & Johnstone replaced Roy White and Lou Piniella in the final inning, but Paul Blair who had replaced Mickey Rivers earlier remained in CF. Amazing!

    • sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:38 am

I was gonna ask which one of those dudes played CF as I couldn’t picture one of them closing out a WS in that spot.

    • Macdog said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:56 am

If only Roy White had stayed in the game with Thomasson and Johnstone . . .

      • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:59 am

        Very clever, Mac…

  19. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:37 am

Now that I think is Kelly Downs?

  20. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 10:38 am

    Fuck that is Joel Youngblood.

  21. gianthead said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:27 am

I have had no clue last two days what is the current picture???? I’m going Gott but no idea which picture…

  22. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:29 am

So Wilco got it right but it was his second guess! My man, ONE guess only. New player coming up!

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:35 am

      Youngblood was wrong?

  23. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:34 am

    Brad Wellman?

    • sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:37 am

      Damnit Loo!

    • Macdog said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:39 am

      You got it.

    • wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:46 am

      Nice work Loo!

  24. gianthead said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:44 am

Clearly that is Matt Dillon. When did he sign with the Giants??? Lulz…word!

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:51 am

That was my first thought – from Drugstore Cowboy…

  25. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:45 am

Loo was the first to say Youngblood.

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:48 am

Thx! I missed it. I didn’t scroll far enough up. Loo u get a point for YB

  26. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:51 am

Where is Chuck? He’s carelessly let his lead slip away.

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:53 am

      Was Wellman right?

      • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:54 am

Yes. lol I can’t keep up with you! Here comes another one!

  27. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 11:59 am

    The late Eddie Milner!

    • sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:02 pm

Unreal. I had no idea on that one.

  28. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:03 pm

Milner. Yes. That is fucking insane. Ok, I am going to try one more and it’s going to be hard. Shit, I thought this one was hard.

  29. sfsarge said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:04 pm

    Royce Clayton?

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:06 pm

no but good guess. Ok, this is the last one for a few hours if anyone gets it quick. Loo is good at this game. If you get this one, I bow down.

  30. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:12 pm

Not confident, but I’ll try Ed Halicki…

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:16 pm

negative. Door is now OPEN. Who knows who this is? Who has the sack to put a stop to this incredible heater Loo is on right now?!?!?!?!?!?

  31. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:24 pm

That’s gotta be former Giant and Padre Ed Whitson?

  32. alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:30 pm

    Johnny Holmes the porn star?

  33. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:31 pm

By the way, I love how the picture keeps getting smaller and smaller. It’s like the flap version of Name That Tune. I half expect Loo to say “I can name that Giant with just two nose hairs!”

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:32 pm

Tell me about. The first crop I did wouldn’t have been fair. This one is still super hard. Hints will come later today if no one gets it!

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:35 pm

      Hilarious!

  34. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:36 pm

If any of you get this guy I will be impressed. I don’t think there’s a way to cheat. If you get this, you are the king.

  35. sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:41 pm

I got a couple of longshot suspects in mind, but I’m gonna lay in the weeds on this one for a while now that Loo is out of the running…..

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:42 pm

That’s a sharp move. I’ll start giving hints out after 4pm PST

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:46 pm

I still don’t know who it is – he resembles a lot of guys from his era.
      I shoulda waited, too…

      • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:47 pm

You were on the heater of a lifetime. Flew to close to the sun, burned your wings. It happens to even the greatest.

      • sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:52 pm

        Cue “Flight of Icarus”

  36. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:47 pm

I have a talent for remembering the names of the most random ex-giants. This game could last a while. If I was Stix, I’d figure out a way to play this game in the clink.

  37. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 12:59 pm

this one is so tough I’m even having trouble remembering his name. Got him written down in me notes. He absolutely played for a significant amount of time for the Giants tho.

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 1:15 pm

      That’s a good hint right there…

  38. snarkk said, on February 3, 2017 at 1:18 pm

How about showing photo of a woman’s chest, and we keep guessing the owner as you widen the photo? I might be better at that game…

  39. snarkk said, on February 3, 2017 at 1:23 pm

    Rob Andrews?

  40. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 1:36 pm

    IF, OF or P?

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 1:41 pm

The hints will start coming at 4pm PST my man!

  41. Bozo said, on February 3, 2017 at 2:19 pm

    Randy Lerch

    • sandog said, on February 3, 2017 at 2:20 pm

The pride of Rancho Cordova High School!

    • Macdog said, on February 3, 2017 at 2:42 pm

      Congrats!

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 3:01 pm

      Never occurred to me…

    • Bozo said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:06 pm

I’ve been know to get randy and also to lurch every so often.

  42. alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:12 pm

    Holy Adams Family Lerch!
    Is that the right answer?
Congrats to clown 🤡 ( Uhh Bozo nice call hombre!

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:22 pm

If Macdog says “congrats” it’s right.
      Bow down to the Clown…

      • Macdog said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:40 pm

Actually, I suck at this game.

  43. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:20 pm

I’m logging in from my ph to honor the 4pm (PST) hints that I promised would come and fucking Bozo has already nailed it. I’ll update the standings later today.

  44. gianthead said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:21 pm

All the pics look like pitchers from the 70s…is it Ed Halicki??? I had one other guess which I won’t throw out there…

    • gianthead said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:22 pm

      Randy Lerch???

      • gianthead said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:24 pm

If that is the answer…he barely played for us…

      • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 5:18 pm

appearing in 44 games is hardly “barely playing”. I remembered him

  45. unca_chuck said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:58 pm

Told ya I was on the road. Just got to Tahoe. Then road was empty and hiway 89 was just opened when we got here as there was a guy who was pulled over for DYI who apparently had a hostage with him. After a 2 hour standoff he broke from his car for a nearby house, in a fucking blizzard mind you, and he was shot and killed by the local cops.

At least that’s what the sketchy chick at the bar said.

Shine that all the ski areas were closed due to high winds so tomorrow should be great skiing. 🤘🤘🤘

  46. unca_chuck said, on February 3, 2017 at 4:59 pm

    Fixing Marc Hill?

  47. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 5:22 pm

popped a new one up. Chuck while you’ve been on a long and lonely road to Tahoe, Loo has been busy running past you like you’re standing still. See if you can catch up, eh?
This guy played way more for us than Lerch. I actually don’t think the pic looks much like him so I’ll give you a hint. He was a utility guy for us, mostly infielder

  48. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 5:27 pm

Romo to the Dodgers. Me back to this game.

  49. Bozo said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:04 pm

Harry “Can’t Hit For Shit” Spilman?

  50. alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:14 pm

    Guy “also no bat Sularz!

  51. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:16 pm

negative to both but nice guesses. This guy played for us for 4 seasons, never did anything outstanding. He was pretty non-descript, I’m surprised he lasted 4 seasons but he was a first round pick (amateur draft) so he must have had some coveted tools at some point. The hints are coming out early on this guy…..

  52. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:26 pm

I don’t fault Romo for signing with LA. The Giants never made him an offer, he signed a deal with his childhood team. Can’t blame him.

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:47 pm

It makes me more annoyed that we didn’t pilfer Jansen…

    • Bozo said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:55 pm

I hope he Schmidt(s) on them.

  53. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:40 pm

    Greg Litton?

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:44 pm

(The question mark after his name was false modesty)

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:50 pm

BTW, I saw his first ML hit at Shea while sitting in Doubleday’s empty box that I bribed my way into.
Only got him from the hints…

I’m pretty sure I gave the usher $50 and told him I was Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue. Luckily, he didn’t remember that him and a few cops had ejected me 5 years earlier for diving on top of the SF dugout after a Brenly homer helped pull the Giants to within 34 games of first place in late August in a game Randy Lerch of all people pitched…

      • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:04 pm

this is an epicly layered post…..Nice call. Standings have been updated.

    • Bozo said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:52 pm

      Great call, Mr. Loo

  54. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:48 pm

Loo is killing it tonight. Nicely done!

  55. snarkk said, on February 3, 2017 at 6:50 pm

    Fuck Romo.
And I say that in a friendly, nostalgic kind of way…

  56. snarkk said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:00 pm

I’m realizing I don’t recognize the photos of hardly any of these phuckin Giants. But, I know who they are and I followed them and the team when they played. What does that mean? Maybe the team sucked so bad when these dudes played, I didn’t give a shit what they looked like…

  57. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:06 pm

Ok, just popped up an easy one. Hope that Loo is out to dinner or something…..

  58. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:12 pm

    Al Holland

  59. blade3colorado said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:14 pm

Maybe just me, but these dudes faces were hard to distinguish in the ‘stick nose bleed seats. Likewise, none of these dudes were regulars as I recall, so face time in the Chronicle, Merc, or KTVU must have been rare or nonexistent.

Couple that with what snarkk just said about the team sucking so bad when these dudes played . . . Umm, my hat is off to Unca and Loo for killing it in this game.

By the by, I wish you would have left all the photos up from today (and previous days). Only caught one photo today (the one where I guessed Arroyo. Bleh. I would have liked to see what these other dudes looked like).

    • wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:22 pm

I want to see the picture of the Giant you thought was Arroyo. Considering I haven’t seen one picture that was taken later than 1984. 😉

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:32 pm

      Come get me!!!

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:32 pm

I’m doing too many of them each day, it would clog up the main thread.

  60. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:29 pm

I see Loo is passing on dinner tonight. Ok, one more for the night! Lemme go find it.

  61. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:32 pm

I probably showed too much of this guy’s face but I think he was a hard one so I am making it easier….

  62. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:41 pm

I’m intentionally picking random guys (outside of Holland) or it would be too easy. I think if you spent a lot of time looking at baseball cards this would be easier. To me, the names are locked into my brain like I’m stuck in quicksand.
I don’t know how much you’d get seeing all the photos at once. Some of them were barely slivers of guys faces. I had to, Loo is too good at this.
But now that we’ve created a monster the same way Brady rose to the top and everyone now hates him just for being Brady, someone must rise up and challenge Loo. This dominance can’t continue. Let’s go.

  63. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:41 pm

Put me on the board baby…Who is Dave Rader?

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:43 pm

haha! I thought you were only gonna come through from the late 80’s on? PUT HIM ON THE BOARD!!!!!!

      • wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:50 pm

I am not going to lie. I had to do a google search to get this one right. I could tell by the photo that it appeared to be early 70’s, so I went to baseball almanac and checked the Giants roster for 1972. He was the first one that came to mind as a possibility so I then google image searched him and voila, there he was.

      • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:53 pm

that’s completely allowed. Only RainMan Loo can do this without googling ANYTHING. Probably DIggity too
That’s still pretty impressive that you hit on a random guy like Radar on your first click

  64. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:46 pm

ok, gonna be pretty surprised if anyone gets this next one quickly. You all know his name but he wasn’t a Giant for too long.

  65. Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:55 pm

One thing I have learned from doing so many of these players over such a short time period (2 days): We had a LOT of shitty players pass through SF over the years……

    • alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:57 pm

Still do, but the overall quality is better..

  66. wilcojoe said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:56 pm

I know this one without cheating. Dan Driessen. 1985 and later and is right in my wheelhouse.

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2017 at 7:59 pm
