A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Ghosts From the Past

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 9, 2017

Our 1-5 start has spurned some cute references to the 2008 team. That’s the team with Brian Bigcock in the opening day line up. Additionally, that team had some atrocious as well as *talent yet met* pitching. Check it out:

When our top 4 starting pitching goes Bum/Cueto/Moore/Smarge it’s pretty hard to take the 2008 references seriously. We have started off slowly but this is hardly the 2008 team revisited.

Right?

Nobody can sweat like Tyler Walker. Here’s a good article about the challenges Haitian players face. https://tinyurl.com/mh7zlbf

      very interesting. Thanks for sharing

Lot of great names on there, not too many great Giants. Lot of classic fails, and 2017 group might have a couple of those.
Division leaders right now: DBax Reds Marlins Angels Twins Orioles. How many of those survive 162 with even a winning record?

  3. gianthead said, on April 9, 2017 at 8:54 am

Can someone please tell the Giants that spring training has ended and these games are the ones that really count…Melvin Upton for God’s sake????

  4. snarkk said, on April 9, 2017 at 9:12 am

That 2008 outfield may be better than this one, and it sucked…

  5. willedav said, on April 9, 2017 at 9:13 am

Dirt thx that ESPN column on life for Haitian Dominicans was great eye opening account of life and baseball in 3rd world country not far from our own. Giants connection too with the Calixte kid who was in ST, great story.

C’mon. Dan Ortmeir. Rajai Davis, Randy Winn. I’ll take them over Harold Melvin and His Blue Notes.

    • snarkk said, on April 9, 2017 at 10:23 am

I’ll take Rajai Davis over Span and his Hip right now…

      • pawliekokonuts said, on April 9, 2017 at 10:26 am

without a doubt . . .Span looks like an old Marvin Gaye and plays like one . . . hope he can sing

They say I have pneumonia. No coughing, no sneezing, no noticeable congestion, just a pain in my left side. Was in ER Friday. They initially feared a pulmonary embolism, but a CAT scan ruled it out. See what this team this year has done to me?!

    • gianthead said, on April 9, 2017 at 11:03 am

I’m blaming my forthcoming stroke on this team but glad you are doing being the other PK…

    • Flavor said, on April 9, 2017 at 11:35 am

sorry you’re sick PK. You can overcome pneumonia. This outfield? Not sure any of us can overcome that.

  8. willedav said, on April 9, 2017 at 11:02 am

Rajai, seriously? Next stop Randy Winn’s job after he passes completely through waivers. He’s only around because the moribund A’s have worse CF options than Giants.

  9. willedav said, on April 9, 2017 at 11:23 am

Rajai is currently 4 for 24 with 0 walks 7 Ks. Yes, he can probably still steal a bag, if he ever gets on one.
Upton, the minor league one, is probably better than he is and played much better for Padres. But I don’t want him around either.

Giants get good pitching like last night, out of others beside Bum, I think they’ll be fine and everyone can go back to enjoying them. Interested to see what happens when Mac gets healthy and some of the other hitters in Sac start rolling and put some pressure on under performers on big club.

  10. Flavor said, on April 9, 2017 at 11:36 am

Rajai sucks. Upton sucks. Parker sucks. Marrero sucks. Span sucks. Everyone sucks.

    • snarkk said, on April 9, 2017 at 11:56 am

Rajai sucks, but doesn’t have a chronic hip. I’ll take him over Span. When you are signing dudes like the Stubbs brothers and Upton off the scrap heap, you know your OF sucks. The thing is this suckitude was predicted by tons of fans. I guess Nunie can’t play OF, because I’d put him and his speed out in LF, and Gillespie at 3rd. Nunie is throwing balls away over there, maybe his shoulder is in bad shape…

keeping the ladies interested with pneumonia. Interesting tactic. 🙂

        I have no standards whatsoever.

  14. Flavor said, on April 9, 2017 at 2:31 pm

so we’re up 5-0. So this is in the bag, right? RIGHT???????

  15. zumiee said, on April 9, 2017 at 2:31 pm

    The long ball!!

  16. alleykat69 said, on April 9, 2017 at 3:17 pm

Matt Kuchar’s Ace on hole 16 had me more pumped up then the Giants! He high fived everyone at the tee box and almost dislocated Rory McElroy’s elbow in fun..

  17. alleykat69 said, on April 9, 2017 at 3:29 pm

Damm Sergio Garcia with an eagle 🦅 putt as Justin Rose 🌹 only a meager birdie lol tied at -9 with 3 holes to go! Should be epic!!

    Our awesome bullpen.

Great finish at the Masters, too. Glad to see Garcia get a green jacket…

    Onward and upward.

  25. Lurker John said, on April 9, 2017 at 4:41 pm

I’ll take the win, but Melancon looks like he’s lobbing it in there to me. I know what the radar gun says, but his stuff looks hittable. Hopefully this save will get him going.

    • Flavor said, on April 9, 2017 at 5:01 pm

he definitely doesn’t look like he’s got a shutdown, lights out pitch. But, he does have a lot of success, I guess we have to trust that and not how he looks.

    • chipower9 said, on April 9, 2017 at 6:29 pm

He’s not, and never really has been, a power pitcher. It’s all location and movement for him. I think he’ll be fine.

  26. zumiee said, on April 9, 2017 at 4:43 pm

D-Backs win again; they’re now 6-1. Time to slow them down.

  27. willedav said, on April 9, 2017 at 5:10 pm

hope everyone is inching a step or two off the ledge.
Recall who was in LF vs. royals? Guys like Perez Ishi and Morse.

Giants outfield batting averages after 1 week:
    Pence: .250
    Span: .214
    Gorkys: .100
    Marrero: .077
    Parker: .000

    • Flavor said, on April 9, 2017 at 6:11 pm

it really is a pathetic looking outfield.

      • zumiee said, on April 9, 2017 at 6:18 pm

They were supposed to fatten up in Arizona; now they go to our pitcher-friendly park.

      • djloo27 said, on April 9, 2017 at 6:59 pm

The 2010 OF, at least on paper, wasn’t much either. Career year from Vungo and some unexpected help from Cody & Burrell…

      • djloo27 said, on April 9, 2017 at 7:16 pm

For just a couple of weeks in 2012 they had a damn good outfield. Younger, healthier versions of Pence and Pagan along with a juiced up Melky…

  31. zumiee said, on April 9, 2017 at 6:15 pm

After the Giants home-opener during the day, the Dodgers run into the Cubs tomorrow night. Dodger game will be on ESPN.

Lemon Can has the facial expression of a guy on the subway who knows he’s about to get mugged…

  33. chipower9 said, on April 9, 2017 at 7:49 pm

Flav – you going to be at the yard tomorrow?

    • Flavor said, on April 9, 2017 at 8:17 pm

I’m not. Gonna be in town but up to my eyeballs in shit to do. Will catch some of the game on tv tho. Have a blast!

      • chipower9 said, on April 9, 2017 at 8:47 pm

Too bad. Enjoy the day…need to get a little win streak going. 2 in a row would work for now.

      • djloo27 said, on April 9, 2017 at 8:55 pm

Seems to me life has become mostly work and errands – the rest of the time you spend resting up from it until you have more shit to do. Who the fuck designed this?

      • zumiee said, on April 9, 2017 at 8:59 pm

        Have a great time, Chi!
        Game day!

  34. zumiee said, on April 9, 2017 at 9:03 pm

Loo, that’s what happens when the top 1% owns 50% of the wealth. And, yes, that’s by their design. And….they want more than 50%. Their greed knows no limits apparently.

    • theroooster said, on April 9, 2017 at 9:42 pm

The real kicker is “their design” was given a HUGE lift by the actions of A LOT of people who are at the bottom of the earning scale. I’ll never get how so many people can vote against their own interests. It’s insane.

      • zumiee said, on April 9, 2017 at 10:47 pm

The GOP effectively uses abortion, guns, and fear to get some low income people to vote for them. Some didn’t even know they were voting against their own healthcare.
