A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Waiting Because They Can And We Can’t

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 21, 2017

I’m not checking team stats or anything, I will just assume the Rangers are at the bottom of the AL. Feel free to correct. This is a screen shot I took of their *hitters* last night. Look at this nonsense.

Screenshot 2017-04-20 at 8.39.03 PM

Makes The Gorkly One and The Invisible Span look not so bad, eh? That is their STARTING line up. Rua is their “lefty killer” and goddamn if he didn’t get a hit. Their manager’s a genius.

So we are stuck with our Out-Field of (Shitty) Dreams. At least for a while. I always wonder what the decision process is when the brass gets stuck with an obvious move to make but stubbornly refuse to make it. I can’t believe it’s about $$$$ or Super Two stuff or any of that. But who knows, maybe that’s ALL it’s about.

Or maybe they’re just pouting away in their precious suite looking down on the plebeians with great disdain, refusing to make a move because they don’t want to be the second ones to come up with this. Ultimate hubris.

Crawford gofundme crested 40K last night…….

Boys need to get in a groove and finish strong in April. Three against the Rox (are they for real?), then we bring it home for four against the hated bambinos of lala land, and finish the month at home with three against the Friars.

There are guys in that Tex LU that can hit like Lucroy Odor Napoli…and I’d say same about Giants.
They are currently 12th in NL for slugging and OPS. Pence has 4 XBHs in 62 ABs (same as Span in 40+) and .750 OPS. Belt’s BA is down to .220.
Regardless of who is in LF Giants need to hit better and score more runs to compete. I think Posey goes back to C he’ll be more into it and his bat will come back around too.
This is a hitters yard where ball carries and a lot of open space. Like to see Giants break loose with bats before home and home with LA sandwiched around Pad series.

Yeah we know how well things go in Colo, Chuck. That was a painful game we got to see last year. Blade was lucky he had back problems!

And yeah, i get real sick of the ‘can’t bring him up yet’ shit. Dithering with arb years in 2022 is ludicrous when you are floundering with Laurel and Hardy in the outfield now. Wasn’t that the initial reason for not bringing up Posey in 2010?

    • chipower9 said, on April 21, 2017 at 8:20 am

Ouch…that is a painful memory. And I was sitting with a bunch of folks from our Denver office…all big Rox fans. UGH…

Turn that shit around and win a fucking series on the road, I say!

Agree Tom. Tonight is the best opportunity to win. Per Flavor, the weather is cold and has the potential for rain. Consequently, the humidity/dampness may keep the ball in the park. Lefties Blackmon, Gonzales, Parra, and Wolters have the platoon advantage.

Good fun in the NL West this weekend. The Giants at the Rockies, and the Dodgers at the D-Backs.

  9. Macdog said, on April 21, 2017 at 1:45 pm

Baggs: Bumgarner has bruised ribs and a grade 1 or 2 left shoulder sprain, Giants say. He is “out of the hospital.” Resting at team hotel.

  30. xoot said, on April 21, 2017 at 5:55 pm

Bumgarner is a meathead, drafted out of high school, gave his wife a cow as a wedding present, etc. etc. Now he’ll lose money as Ford cancels those MadBum enjoying himself in the mud on an offday commercials. I guess it’s better that the inevitable stupid injury occurred this way instead of during a take down of Puig in Chavez Latrine.

    • Lurker John said, on April 21, 2017 at 6:20 pm

He’s not a meathead, he just fucked up. Obviously his solid upbringing resulted in a man with a lot of character and fortitude, so if that’s a meathead I’ll take him any day. He’ll be back.

      • xoot said, on April 21, 2017 at 7:22 pm

LA played well and took over first from SF last year without Kershaw. A single great player isn’t worth that many more wins than an average one over the course of a season, and even less so over any shorter stretch. I’m being positive.

I’ve been a big advocate of Bum not getting a contract upgrade, because he had professional advice and was an adult, not under duress, when he signed it. Even more so now, given his hubris and selfish dumbassery. Violation of contract ban I suppose will come out as the beat scribes come out of the brew pubs and bars to ask a few questions. My question is this: where/how do you rent a dirt bike in a visitor city and just fire off to wherever on it? Don’t you need a motorcycle license to actually do that? — I assume Dumbass has one. Maybe he was riding with friends/acquaintances that gave lent him the bike ?…

  42. snarkk said, on April 21, 2017 at 7:45 pm

    On the bright side:
    1. Blach gets at least 2 months of starts, getting out of the Pen where he doesn’t belong anyway
    2. Maybe Cain craters, so bring Beede up
    3. By August, those two will have established themselves as MLB level starters. So, with Cain and Cueto gone in 2018 (Cueto will pull ripcord to another squad that scores runs and pays big LT $), you’ve got two young starting arms already set to roll into 2018…

He is not a MLB caliber player. Never was.

His atrociousness is all on the Giants front office…

  48. snarkk said, on April 21, 2017 at 8:38 pm

I have a stat question for you dudes, James weigh in.
Gorkys is ripping at a below .100 clip. Below 1 in 10.
With 2 strikes on him in his latest worthless AB, they pulled off the bunt.
Wouldn’t it have made more sense to let him take the shot at the bunt with 2 strikes? I was thinking that before he flied out. I figured there was no way in hell he’d get on with a hit, so why not keep the bunt on and risk the foul ball strike out — how much more of a risk of failure would that be, probably less, compared to swinging away?…

    • James said, on April 21, 2017 at 9:30 pm

I could totally see Snarkk being right and could see Cueto departing. Cain goes. We should figure out how to dump Smardj. We have two option years with Moore. If they go rebuild, can we get a young OF for Pence. You all know where I am with Posey if we could get a bunch of prospects…Nunez then goes and we get our Donger and Arroyo next year. Just release Spam now…

Arroyo, has hit in 21 consecutive games dating back to last season, and now leads the PCL in average (.479), OBP (.510), and OPS (1.260) while coming in 3rd in SLG (.750). Why is he in the minors?

Curse of Jason Schmidt. Romo, Wilson, and Marichal also not having stellar stints with the Bums . . . Or, as we like to perceive – all double agents for the Giants cause.

By the by, I have been tracking Casilla – he tossed the ninth inning for the A’s last night, giving up his first hit of the season. Hitters had been 0-for-17 previously. Not bad for a guy that many here thought was kaput. I think James and I were the only ones here who believed he still had gas in the tank (albeit, insofar as PR was concerned, yeah, probably a good idea for him to move on).
